Popped in for a spot of lunch, myself, hubby & son ordered the sandwiches from the menu, whilst my daughter ordered lasagna, grandkids ordered pizza. When the food came, we were very disappointed with the bread as it was regular sliced whereas another table had what looked like doorstop bread! The kids meals were clearly microwave Chicago town pizzas, and the lasagna that my daughter ordered didn’t arrive until we were all finished & ready to leave. They ended up taking the cost off of the final hill as it took so long to arrive. Unfortunately this has put us off from visiting further.

Food was mediocre and expensive for what it was. I got the salt beef sandwich, first got told you get salad and crisps with a sandwich. Then when I ordered I got told ‘oh not with the salt beef sandwich’ when it arrived it was on bread that wasn’t fresh and was stale within minutes. The bread was also some cheap pre sliced stuff for £8.50! I was expecting a lot more. The rest of our order was over priced and as I said mediocre. The view is not as nice as it used to be. We was sitting out side staring at a car park and a load of coaches, disappointed.

An unfortunate experience. As my profile shows, I don’t do many (any) reviews but after decades of dining out, this experience made me want to share. We went with some friends to celebrate a birthday and when we arrived and settled at our table, we were brought the menus – all perfectly normal and as one might expect. Having mulled over the various dishes we settled on the lamb shanks, however, on placing our order we were informed that we had been given the wrong menu. We were slightly disappointed but to the pub’s credit, although the lamb shanks weren’t on the actual menu we were informed that we could still order them, what we weren’t told was that we would have to wait an hour . . . . . Anyway, when the shanks did turn up, they were very nice indeed. So, onto dessert, an hour goes by after we had ordered (apparently normal) but we did make a follow up enquiry only to be told, sorry ‘we forgot to put the order through’. Several hours later we left and the governor asked us how about our experience. We replied that although the food was good the service was lacking, the landlord simply shrugged. Won’t be going back, ever . . .

dropped into this wonderful old pub because all the big pubs were busy or out of food. We opted for vegetable soup to start which was fantastic. The mixed ploughmans (ham off the bone & a crumbly cheddar we shared and was a dream! I finished off with a rhubarb crumble, wow for the third time. All finished off with Adnams ghost ship pale ale. I Will recommend this place to anyone!

Passed by this pub when out with a friend and decided to stop for lunch. The pub itself looks quite historical but due to covid fears and the hot weather we decided to eat outside. It is a shame that the outside dining area looked a bit run down and not overly clean. It also overlooks the car park, and in this very dry spell every car that drove in sent up a cloud of dust, which was not conducive to dining. The staff seemed friendly, but there was a long wait for our meals. The food was plentiful but unexceptional. My friend had a ploughman's with a huge amount of cheddar cheese. I opted for a burger that was pretty average with not much in the way of garnish other than tomato., although a small salad was included (mainly tomato). The food was okay but nothing to particularly recommend it. Not cheap either, but few places are these days.

Food was great BUT owner/manager tried to tell me that a 'soapy taste' was normal for draft Heinken as the end of the barrel has the same taste as the beginning of the barrel. Clearly has no idea about how beer/lager should taste. Staff clearly worried about their jobs if there's a complaint as manager is not in the least worried about complaints as too busy drinking at the bar with his mates. Sadly spoilt a birthday celebration lunch

Having used the pub many years ago for drinking, I was planning today's event and visited in January. I wasn't disappointed for the food or the beers, they were good. I phoned yesterday and was emailed the menu. Yes, the physical menus in plastic sleeve binders could be improved. The website is currently out of action for re-development so things are on the up. The pub had others at the tables, and I would class it as quiet. What makes this a pub to visit is the service. Friendly, funny, helpful. Everything you would want from a meal in a pub. The food today and drinks were of a good standard. This is tasty pub grub, not trying to be haute cuisine but providing food cooked to a reasonable level. Six seniors having a social lunch out together and enjoying the day and each others company. Some of the reviews are not good, I admit but I recommend that you visit and make your own mind up.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s very different from high street chains but that to me adds to the charm. You get brilliant food at very reasonable prices. Lunch time favorites are the homemade soup, salt beef and bacon & Brie sandwiches. Although on the edge of London you feel like you could be right out in the country. Thank you to the staff who are always working hard and very hospitable. We look forward to coming back.

When we got there, it was very quiet and the tables were very cramped together. considering the number of diners, it was not very covid friendly. The menu presented was so disappointing. It was not a match on the one posted online. If you scroll to the bottom of the menu, you will find the Sunday menu, which is not the same as the one presented. The drinks were also a little steep. This pub is over 500 years old which immediately gives it a positive edge - the staff were also friendly and good-natured despite having to deal with a lot of customers and slow kitchen service. We waited an hour for our meal but when it came it was plentiful. I could see other plates groaning too. The real downside was disappointment in the food itself - mashed potato from a tin, very likely re-constituted and this made me doubt anything much was home-made. I too can undo a packet and pop it into the oven. It wasn't piping hot either. I expect better when I am eating out. We won't be going again. Sorry,

I was in the area again after many a year and decided it might be worth paying a visit to old haunts. After driving around for a while I came across the King and Tinker which brought back a few memories so I popped in for a bite to eat. The access to the car park was a bit narrow and the driveway, and indeed the car park itself were somewhat potholed and could do with a spot of maintenance. Although there was plenty of outside seating, and a huge external play area out back it wasn’t the weather to sit outside so I ducked my way in through the entrance which reminded me of a doorway into a castle, narrow, fairly restricted headroom and with a pointed arch and a latch lock.Inside the place was empty save for 4, whom I took to be, regulars engaged in earnest discussion at the bar and the barmaid suggested I sit in the dining area as it would be quieter. She furnished me with a menu and showed me the way, advising me to duck up the step into the dining area and I noticed it only offered padded protection in the other direction. From the various flyers on the table I read that they state they are the oldest public house in Enfield and date from the 16th Century, to be believed if the doorway is anything to go by. I was still in recovery from an outing the previous day so was only looking for a sandwich and soft drink. The Hot Salt Beef one was my target, the poster-board advertising it had lured me in from the outside and the menu proclaimed it was made to a recipe given them by an old Jewish customer of theirs and served the proper way with mustard and gherkin. Who was I to argue, I just waited in eager anticipation.Whilst waiting, the various ornaments on display caught my eye, a somewhat eclectic mix I thought. From the ceiling were hanging half a dozen or so tankards but also a very large number of gravy boats, not forgetting a brass colander, brass and copper kettles and brass bellows for a fire. The picture rail supported numerous plates and on the walls were motor and car posters and there was a display cabinet of model cars. Shelves of empty wine and spirit bottles and an old style bakelite telephone .Two flyers on the table mentioned that the place is a venue for regular Motorcycle meets and also Custom and Classic Cars, which immediately explained the wall décor. It must be the devils own job to dust all this.Food arrived with a cheerful smile, more a doorstep than a sandwich but I wasn’t complaining. Stacks of warm salted beef in wholemeal bread more than exceeded my expectations and it tasted divine and I was so pleased I had been tempted in by the poster/advert outside. Looking around I wished I had brought my appetite with me as the Main Menu special was Game Pie, Mash & Peas which I could have followed up with either a Crumble of the Day, Jam Sponge, Spotted Dick or Syrup Pudding, all good comforting food for a grey day but sadly wasn’t to be. I later found a poster on the toilet wall saying how they had a collection of 80 different Gins. I laughed thinking that would be a good way to have a pub crawl within a single pub, back in the day.I took my leave but after driving out thought that the state of the car park had taken its toll on my car as the front tyre pressure warning lights came up and I thought I’d got a couple of punctures but it turned out to be pure coincidence as a short burst of air into both front tyres sorted the problem.

Met up with fellow classic car enthusiasts for the annual Christmas dinner. Paid in advance, drinks extra on individual tabs.2 course meal cost £25. 2 pints non alcoholic lager and bottle of not too good wine cost over £30. Soup was cold. Lamb shank was rock hard and served floating in gravy, mashed potato and peas. Also cold. Seemed like the boil in the bag meat was cooked in the microwave oven. Fellow diner at my table got his beef meal about 5 minutes before I had finished eating mine. At the end of the evening on the way out of the pub I asked if there was a comments form of some sort. There was not and the barmaid looked at me in a manner which indicated she didn't know what I was asking for. When I told her my meal was substandard she gave me her mother's phone number.. presumably the cook.. and told me the pub owner was sitting at the other end of the bar. On speaking to him, he said no one had ever complained before. He said I should have complained at the time. Well this was impossible as I was jammed in a space by a drafty window .. I didn't get out to go to the toilet until the end of the evening. The owner then told me not to come back again! Well I won't!

Me and my family have been to the King and Tinker many times over the years, mainly sitting in the beer garden.. It has a bouncy castle and climbing frame which keeps the younger members of the family occupied. We had arranged to meet up the pub for Father’s Day - we hadn’t booked tables as we were going to be sitting in the garden which we usually do, and there are quite a lot of tables there. I know it was Fathers Day but inside the pub it was not very busy - probably people would be arriving at different times to booked tables. Out of our party (approx 22) a few decided to order some food to eat outside, not meals but just some sandwiches and fries, etc. When my brother went to the bar he was told very rudely that nobody was allowed any food in the garden area because if it rains then there would be no room should we have come inside to eat. My brother explained that he only wanted a sandwich and some fries, but again the landlord was very rude in saying he couldn’t have them. My brother said what if he ordered them as a take-away (of which there’s a board outside advertising this). And the landlord said to him if you order it as a take away then you go and sit in your car and eat it and if I find you’ve eaten it in the garden area you’ll be barred. There was a stunned silence in the pub. Even the barmaids and the landlords daughter looked embarrassed about his behaviour, and apologised to my brother because of it. Unbeknown as to what had gone on, my sister arrived at the pub and came in and asked if she could order 2 portions of fries for her boys - she was told she couldn’t eat them in the garden but they could be eaten in the bar area. My brother then asked well could he order a sandwich and eat that in the bar area, to which again he was told very rudely that he couldn’t by the landlord. I think the landlord makes rules up as he goes along and I can only think because he had his mates sitting around drinking with him, that he thinks it makes him look big in front of them. I have never, ever been in a pub or restaurant where people have been treated so appallingly. We will not be going back to that establishment again. If that’s how the landlord treats his paying customers then he deserves to lose business.

Unfortunately we did not get a welcome on arrival we were just told to order quickly because they were busy. There were only about eight others in the restaurant. The food was very poor standard and no effort had been made to serve it attractively. It was very much from the freezer to the microwave and for the price was not good value for money. Probably won't go again.

We called in for lunch and they do have a wide ranging menu. We went for the Home Made Pies. The service was excellent. They were friendly, helpful and the food cam reasonably quickly. The pies did seem home made, were reasonably tasty, but were reheats and there was no chance of burning your lips.

Visited the pub for a pre booked Sunday dinner for a party of five. The pub was busy with three other large groups. We were served quickly by a friendly waitress. Drinks were brought over, one incorrect. Meals ordered and we then waited an hour for one simple starter. Other tables who arrived after were served and provided with their orders before our one starter even arrived. We then waited another hour for our mains to arrive. At no time were we checked on. No apology offered for the delay. All food was very pleasant, however the excessive wait was unacceptable. The atmosphere was loud and the waiting staff/kitchen seemed ill equipped to deal with the volume. The pub is clearly willing to accept large bookings at the detriment of diners. When paying we attempted to use a valid discount voucher from Hi-Life. The polite waitress stated it wasn’t accepted. She then queried this with her father the landlord. She stated they had experienced this problem before. He was abrupt and rude stating, “My pub my rules, I’ve been here 27 years” There was no need for this attitude towards diners who had just paid for a meal in his establishment. Clearly happy to accept advertising from voucher companies and then not honour the agreement. Won’t be back. Manners cost nothing.

Hadn't been to the King & Tinker for many years but decided to take the family out for a meal. Really was impressed,a lovely young lady made us feel really welcome. The menu was extensive and the food was expertly cooked. We did not have a long wait for our food, although it was busy. We shall certainly be visiting again soon. If you haven't been then please go, you will not be disappointed

I frequently visit the King and Tinker whilst out walking - often just for a beer, as there is a good choice of well kept draught beer, or sometimes an excellent salt beef sandwich to go with it. Recently, just before Christmas, I booked lunch for a group of 10 walkers. Despite the pub being very busy with another large group as well as regular diners, the service from Claire was outstanding. All the staff were friendly and helpful - both prior to our visit and during our very satisfactory meal - including vegetarian options. A friendly country pub which welcomes dogs and children.

We are no far from this pub, but we have been here just a few times, and never disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the plates are huge and delicious. You can enjoy any drink outside as well on a large area, prices are on the average, so I recommend it.

Lovely local, country pub on the outskirts of South Herts. Pub lunch for four to celebrate with the family. The interior was littered with bespoke ornaments from the past, British memorabilia, frames dog photos, ale cups. The stilton soup starter was enjoyed by all, followed by the ploughman's lunch I've enjoyed in the past, the others enjoying a roast and lasagne and garlic bread. Salad was a bit too oily, and the portions were HUGE! But to be expected in a traditional pub.

Shockingly bad meal. We had a roast here last Sunday, it was the worst pub food I've had in my life. All the veg from frozen, yucky gravy, loads of cabbage to fill up the plate, nasty cheap yorkshire. I left more than half & forced myself to eat the other half. It was also quite pricy too, an added kick in the teeth. Staff were friendly, however, and it's an interesting building in a nice location with car park. Great that there are bouncy castles, ride alongs, toys etc for the kids in the garden (this pubs only saving grace). Finally, there were SO many wasps in the garden, it was really bad. I'd never eat here again, no way. --I'd think the council would want to look at the cleanliness of this place also, it looked a bit dubious --

The King and Tinker is a very old pub (the oldest in Enfield, apparently) situated in a rural location by White Webbs Park. It is in the London Borough of Enfield, not far from the border with Hertfordshire, but you wouldn’t think you were anywhere near London. We’d passed the pub a number of times before while out walking but yesterday decided to stop for a drink and something to eat. We had a hot salt beef sandwich (a pub speciality) and poached fish of the day. Both meals were good. I also had a pint of Hobgoblin ale (not great, but drinkable) and a second pint, of London Pride (very good). The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. What I particularly liked about the King and Tinker was that it hadn’t been modernised or made to seem fancy (the dreaded ‘country pub & dining’). It was just how typical country pubs used to be, with photos and pictures of local interest on the wall, regulars sitting at the bar chatting with each other and the staff, and no piped music playing. It seemed like it was more or less the same as it would have been 30 or 40 years ago, except for the fact it offers a full food menu, which many pubs didn’t in those days. We enjoyed our visit so much we made a note to come back again when out walking in the area.

Well we was very disapointed. My partner ordered steak medium rare and it was well done. He couldn't eat it and we took it home for the dog that was £16 well spent. Service was good polite staff but the food was so bad for what it is and the price. Terrible would not go their again.

Wow, where do I begin. The place looks old and dirty, the food is complete and utter trash. The staff are awfully rude apart from one glass collector called Russel - Who actually persuaded me to go ahead and ask for a refund when he came to collect our full plates. I’m not one for confrontation but he felt it was unfair I should lose my money on a food experience I didn’t enjoy. I will never ever be going back again. The beef was inedible on the roast I ordered - hard, cold and chewy. I went to complain to change it to turkey as they had forgotten my turkey anyway, and the kitchen staff shouted at the waitress that they had already taken my turkey out that they had forgotten. I would have felt sorry for the waitress if she wasn’t also horribly rude with a face like a slapped bum!!! Sunday afternoon with family completely ruined!!!! I feel a bellyache coming on already. DISGUSTING.
