Very disappointed. The place was cold so sat in our coats. I had a coffee to warm me up which cost £4.75 - ridiculous price. We had to wait an hour for our food even though it was not busy. The food was nicely cooked but very small for the price. Will not be going back in a hurry.

Came here for dinner whilst staying locally. We were cheerfully greeted and seated. The dining room where we sat was bright and airy, there were also tables in the pub area. We ordered the steak & ale pie and a steak. The food took a little time but we were not in a hurry and I think the pie probably takes some time………it was well worth the wait! The pie pastry was delicious and filled with tender steak, onions and gravy. My husband had the steak and said it was good too. The portions were hearty and we did not have room for dessert! If we lived in the area we would definitely return!

As regards Hazel’s review of August 25th, we were on the next table. We were booked at 2pm, ordered at about 2.15. In the meantime we ordered drinks, including a sparkling water - which they didn’t have! We kept asking when our food would come and at about 4pm we were told that the chef was waiting for the vegetarian option to cook (which had been ordered at 2.15). Food finally arrived at about 4.30. No explanation was offered, other than the problems with the group who were refusing to pay, though this cannot possibly account for a two-hour delay. The food was poor, my partner’s meat was virtually inedible and the vegetarian option was overwhelmed with the flavour of Camembert. The plates were overloaded and the food had just been thrown on and covered in gravy. Potatoes and parsnips were nowhere near the consistency required on a roast. They gave us a discount of 25%, thereby acknowledging that their service was unacceptable. However, with no satisfactory explanation as to why this had happened, we will not be able to return, which is a real shame as it’s a lovely pub with great potential.

We visited the Kilkeney Inn as under new management! As the previous proprietor was GROTESQUE, SHOCKING. So I gave it another go! so the gentleman told its gonna be a wait which was fine he seated us took our drinks order. We were all chatting and noticed the pub was busy and you could see they were short hands or two!!. We did wait for food over an hour but when we got the food it was very delicious enjoyable meal. I would like to admit I did have a peak in the kitchen window and to my dismay one chef to feed this huge pub! We felt bad as the pub full the staff were doing there Best! Worse thing was a crazy lady approached us and other dinners telling them to complain shocking! SHOCKING BEHAVIOUR shame on that person As to the Hazel & paulajo79 reviews they are not fear As you could clearly see things had gone horribley wrong on this day!. It's unfair to say you won't be back we would urge you to give the beautiful pub another go as we will be returning to give a another try.

We are 4 friends who eat out for Sunday lunch on a regular basis. We were all looking forward to lunch at the Kilkenny Inn on 25th August . If you are looking for professional, friendly service with good food then this is not the place for you. We were told there would be a wait, but an hour and ten minutes? There was one waitress rushing around looking very stressed, the bar man approaches us for our drinks order after about 15mins. there was no wine list. I had ordered a starter but as my friends had not I cancelled the order after about 45 mins. There was no apology. When the food came, two of our party sent their’s back as the meat was not fully cooked. the replacements were not much better. One didn’t eat anything and the rest of us ate very little. The vegetables were either hard or watery. the roast potatoes, dry as though they had been reheated. We asked to see the manager. A young woman heard our complaints which were delivered politely and in soft voices. We suggested we shouldn’t have to pay for the food and she just took payment for the drinks. She offered us a 15% discount if we would return, saying this was not how they wanted to be represented going forward.. However as we were leaving we were accosted by an imposing man who stopped us in the main body of the pub and in a very intimidating manner and loud voice accused us of theft and threatened to call the police. There was no doubt he wanted to embarrass and humiliate us in front of the other diners. We were in shock and did pay just to get out. We since learnt that under the Consumer Act 2015 we were well within our rights not to pay. One can only hope this Inn improves but we will not be returning to find out

This lovely inn had just that week acquired new managers when we stopped there en route to Wales. Clearly a lot to do to restore it to its former glory, but we couldn't have been made more welcome, and were served the best warm roast beef sandwich I've ever eaten anywhere. Clearly they are taking this seriously and deserve all the success in the world.

Under new management, since the end of July 2024, the Kilkenny Inn offers delicious home cooked food in a comfortable, homely setting. We made this our go-to place to eat whilst staying locally for a few days. The staff are lovely & welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. We were lucky that the first meal we had was the Sunday roast. What a delight! The food was plentiful & delicious, with lashings of extra gravy, at no additional cost. My hubby then followed this with a scrumptious sticky toffee pudding. Our next visit a few days later did not disappoint. We chose the Kilkenny Burger & Gammon, egg & chips & were presented with two fabulous, delicious tasting meals. The only negative for us was that we were off home the next day, so couldn't go back for a third night! Make it your local if you're in the area, you won't regret it.

Honestly, i wish i could leave a better review - this was an unplanned visit on the way home, we had lunch and the food was unfortunately terrible, food order was wrong, drink order was wrong, staff weren't very friendly, there are no hand drying facilities in the bathroom. However, i do understand that this is under new ownership, so hopefully things will improve over time - but i doubt that me and my partner will be back in a hurry. This is an absolutely gorgeous building with a spectacular view. The indoor decor is very nice.

On the way back from a team competition in Abingdon we stopped on a whim at the Kilkenny. 11 of us turned up, requested a table & drinks and were sorted pretty sharp. The food was fabulous and while initially disappointed at alternatives on the menu (one of the party couldn’t eat a side with the dish), we were surprised to hear they had literally been open 24 hours. I had the gammon myself and it was fab. The beef shin made me jealous ❤️ Will definitely be returning again & again if the food stays that good 👍🏻

Food was really nice and the garden was lovely however we felt unwelcome. Maybe because it was bank holiday at we arrived at 2pm? I did ask if food was available first so it they didn't want to serve us they could or said and we would or went elsewhere. We was told that they didn't have certain things on the menu but didn't tell us what items, so looked at the menu and had to ask one by one item. We didn't ask for the bill, they just came out and gave it to us so we felt like they wanted us out. The general attitude just felt like they didn't want us there so despite the food being nice, we'll likely not come back

We were out dog walking on Saturday afternoon and decided we would stop here before we headed back. We didn’t eat - just one drink. This place could be a gem but for a few things - please take this as constructive criticism. Why don’t you make your pub look like it’s open? You could put a “We are open for business” sign up by the roadside perhaps? It’s a busy road. You may get a lot more custom. It was very quiet when we were there. We got to the front door on foot and it looked like it was bolted shut. If you put a wedge under that door to keep it open when you’re open it’s so much easier to wander in. We sat in the garden at the back. It had nice furniture but the tables need a cloth going over them. As a Charles Wells pub I hoped that brewery’s beer would be offered but there was only one real ale - Jouster. Some more choice would be good. Thank you for listening to me.

The pub is lovely and Restaurant is clean, with comfy chairs. Huge portions of the food which was delicious. However what was a shame was the vegan roast came with a Yorkshire pudding, which I questioned and they confirmed it had milk in which obviously I couldn’t eat and isn’t vegan so I gave it to another member of the party however this shouldn’t be on the plate. It made me worried of what was in everything else on my plate was but they confirmed it was fine so I carried on and the wellington was nice. At the end of the meal, we were told another party needed to use the table in 10 minutes so we’re asked to leave, we had just ordered drinks and there were plenty of empty tables so this was bizarre.

Very very poor experience never again it ruined our Christmas here’s why! Turned up thinking our Christmas dinner was £(thought it was too cheap! as our father in law booked 3 weeks ago went to the bar with this menue he was given! The landlady didn’t correct him that this wasn’t the menus! So of course we questioned it very politely! His response look I don’t want any arguments it’s not my problem! You won’t get Christmas dinner for that price!! Totally get it but thought wow that’s rude! We never had no where else to go so continues to stay paying 109 per head at 5 people for this! We waited 1 hour for the drinks we ordered! My neice of 3 had to wait 20 minutes for her food as he forgot to plate hers up! His poor daughter didn’t no what any of the dishes were she was handed them to us giving us wrong food and when asked sorry what’s That she said oh I don’t know il go ask! Our meal finally came out waiting an extra 20 mins for our veg! Which states sprouts and never got them! We had all nearly finished our meal! He was shouting in the kitchen when we questioned about the sprouts! Very rude man! Ruined my Christmas I was struggling with this day as grieving for a loved one! Was very difficult and certinatly didn’t want this or need it not once did any one come up to us and ask if every Thing is ok! I mean I have been left traumatised because of the rudeness and completely left on our own in the pub whilst every member was hiding in the kitchen! I think it was through embarrassment as they apologised to the table of 6 they all left not one of them smiling I mean come on it’s Christmas Day! Thankyou for ruining my day just wanted warmth respect and a smile

We passed this restaurant on our way to a funeral in North Devon on 28/9/23 and after trying to find something to eat in Braunton for lunch and having failed decided to stop here on the way home as the reviews gave the Inn 4.6. However we arrived at 6.15pm and were the only ones there. Unfortunately there was nothing on the mains menus my wife liked the look of, so she decided to have chicken tacos from the pub menu. I love Pork Belly so ordered that and we shared a starter of a baked Camembert. The starter was good with a lovely chutney and flat bread. The Tacos and chips were OK but my pork was poor. The skin which should have been a lovely crisp crackling was the consistency of a wine gum and the fat layer, which should have rendered down into the meat was a slimy gloop. The portion size and taste was good and had it been cooked properly would have very good value for money. The mash was OK but the vegetables of carrots and Stem Broccoli were beyond al dente and just under cooked. Sorry, but not sure you know how to cook Pork Belly. For a meal costing over £75 for two was a disappointment.

A gem. Staff were wonderful. Happy and friendly. Food was delicious. Poached pear, blue cheese and candied walnuts to start, hubby had breaded prawns with a chilli dip. I went for roast pork, hubby had the beef. Roast potatoes were excellent, crisp on the outside, fluffy in the middle. Beautifully cooked veg, lashings of gravy. Big fluffy Yorkshire puddings, and I had a lovely chunk of salty crunchy crackling. I'm not sure if the horseradish sauce was homemade, but it packed a punch! We ended the meal with fab desserts. Ruby and white chocolate mousse for me, and strawberry and vanilla cheesecake for him. Also, must mention, hubby wasn't sure which beer to choose, so the lovely guy serving us let him try a couple of different ones. Such a shame that the current landlords are only there until the end of this month. We really enjoyed our visit.

We've been for dinner here a few times now to celebrate several birthdays and anniversaries and have loved it every visit. Beautiful pub, lots of parking, fantastic staff and always a very warm welcome. That's without even mentioning the food which is amazing - we've tried several things from the menu and everything has been absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!

Daphne is always a great place to get away from the festival crowds in a pretty side street just off the Royal Well Crescent and a short walk from the vibrant Promenade. Ilhan the owner and chef is always there with a warm welcome and cooks everything fresh to order. We love the fillet steaks and last night’s were just perfect, not an ounce of fat in them and cooked medium rare just as we asked. The mixed mezze mini salad starters are really tasty too, including minty tabbouleh, fish and beetroot salads, all home made and served with baked bread. It is a family run business and so if you can book ahead that’s great to help them prepare service but they always welcome walk ins too.

We sat down in the corner of the pub with our drinks planning on getting food and probably staying there for a while. The table was not reserved in any way, we were sat there for over 30 minutes having a nice quiet drink until the rudest, scruffiest man with long greasy hair and moustache came over and told us to 'get up, I need the table'. Didn't even bother to explain why, or even apologise then just stood there saying 'get up'. I genuinely didn't even realise he worked there.. I thought he was some random man asking us to get up. The pub was full with no other tables available. We were clearly an easy target being one of the youngest (29 and 31). The pub was full of over 50s. Not our fault you couldn't organise enough chairs and tables for a larger group. Clearly an error on your behalf. Safe to say we will never step foot in this place again.

After leaving it for far too long we returned to our favourite restaurant in the UK last week. I've written before how good it is and I'm about to do so again. Living in Birmingham we have a choice of Michelin starred restaurants on our doorstep, now sadly one one less with the closure of Purnell's, but it's a scenic round trip to a Cheltenham restaurant that tops them all. Obviously the level of cooking at these places is top notch but the overall experience of LCS is what sets it apart. There is no tasting menu but set lunch and dinner menus (two or three course) - which offer incredible value - as well as an extensive a la carte menu. The wine list is extremely well put together and has a pricing range which suits all pockets, unlike some of its contemporaries! Some reviewers bemoan the lack of music; others compare it to a library or church but not in a good way. We find it has a calm and pleasant ambience. The tables are well spaced and people are chatting and laughing quite freely - possibly helped by mobile phone use not being allowed in the dining area. We had the set lunch menu which allowed us to taste gurnard for the first time as well as an exquisitely cooked beef and ox-tongue dish which melted in the mouth. The cheese board is - as it always has been - a masterpiece, arriving in a wicker basket full of cheese for you to choose at the table; or let chef David select for you allowing for personal preferences to be included. The coffee and petits fours are a sublime way to finish your meal. The latter are particularly fine, varied and plentiful. I haven't mentioned the nibbles, amuse bouche or the breads including a signature brioche with bacon but they, and the excellent front of house service provided by Helen and her team, all combine to consistently deliver a superb dining experience. Parking is available at a nearby car park, currently £2.30 for three hours - a time span which is perfect for a leisurely lunch - only a short walk away. We won't leave it so long for our next visit!

The food was amazing and overall ana amazing experience. The restaurant was nice and modern and it was very smart. Although my only complaint is that it is quite small so many people can't get tables.

Met a friend for coffee and a chat. Goid service. Expensive drinks and food. Guess it's the location ....
