Upscale deli with great service from lovely staff

Visited for a cream tea with extended family. Delicious fruit scones with lots of strawberry jam and clotted cream (refills offered too.) We enjoyed amazing service from Freddie who was so personable and friendly. From the time I made my original booking, through to parcelling up our uneaten scones to take home (they were quite large so admitted defeat on eating them all at the time!) Freddie could nit have been more helpful. The tearoom is upstairs and there is an amazing, well stocked Deli downstairs. Great place for a family meet up.

Been here twice in the past two months. First time my order was recorded incorrectly but thought I was in the wrong so left it. This time, requested the breakfast bap with brown sauce. It only came with one egg when it states two and no brown sauce as ordered. Warm drinks are nice but for the price of items, it's important to get them correct especially when it's not cheap. Two stars because the staff are friendly, would be one otherwise.

Paid £6.50 for an unpleasant, barely baked, stodgy, doughy bap with a bit of bacon in it. Most disappointed and feel somewhat ripped off.

So expensive and im sure theyre struggling which is why prices are so high but i used to come more often, its just become a local joke the prices - a baguette for £3.50 and a sandwich and coffee for £13. Some good value items like bacon but otherwise, hard to justify not getting in the car and buying from waitrose instead

Great coffee shop and friendly staff

We had the most wonderful cream tea experience with Maison Chaplais yesterday Sat 27th Jan 24. It was so delicious. Fresh, warm, vanilla scones with sticky raisins and 2 per person with lovely jam and cream. They were so lovely and I lived in Cornwall for 10 years so I know what a scone should be- these were something else! Staff were so friendly to us, our little boy who came along too. We definitely will be back again. Thank you! (Find their afternoon tea deal on groupon. Amazing value for money!)

Very rude staff. Wouldn’t recommend it and definitely won’t go again. Also outrageously expensive for what it was.

Lovely place. Had scones, jam and cream. It was really nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. My wife and I will certainly return. Would thoroughly recommend.

Ive been here a couple of of times and the pastries and cakes are really good (especially the Bakewell tarts). My biggest issue is it is eye-wateringly expensive. £7 for a few biscuits or a baguette is twice if what you’d pay even in London . I appreciate it’s imported and costs have risen but they could offer a few more “budget range” items. It’s also quite dusty with a crowded feel between shelves. The takeaway coffee is very milky. In addition, both times I’ve ordered there the young staff have got the order wrong. I’m all about supporting local businesses and this place has so much potential!

Cute little deli shop with good selection although some of the branded goods are highly priced compared to other places. Anyway, the lunch sandwiches were made to order and very good quality although they did take an age to arrive. Good selection of sandwiches.

Lovely freshly baked scones with fresh clotted.crean and jam. We visited on a Groupon deal, which we'd pre-booked and confirmed via the Groupon website. However, when we turned up at the allotted time, we were told we should of phoned before as they weren't expecting us, and we'd need to call back in 20minutes once they'd cooked a feesh batch of scones. A good selection of coffee and teas. It would of been 5 stars, if not for the initial welcome,

Fantastic breakfast spot, all the staff at Chaplais made us feel very welcome. 16 of us booked in for breakfast - we were seated upstairs, plates were almost licked clean!! big thank you to Georgina, Poppy, Liz and Lucinda - nothing was too much trouble. We will be back soon!

Went in today for lunch The staff don’t have a clue, was waiting to get served ! Customer service skills terrible Served someone else when I was waiting . Charge stupid money for a terrible service Bunch of kids serving don’t have a clue !! Won’t be going back again, bunch of clowns 🤡

Good food, very well presented and brought out in good time. I love the homemade sourdough, but if you’re looking for thick toast you’ll be disappointed as this is thin and crispy. All high quality ingredients and decent flavours. I’d like to try for dinner next time.

It's a really nice little cafe and artisans food shop...the staff is friendly and helpful...we sat upstairs and it's cozy & beautifully decorated We came here for the cream tea and it's lovely 😍

Coffee and sausage roll - spot on

I found this years ago for coffee and pastries during cancer treatment, it was my treat every time I came home. Since then we’ve had all sorts from, homemade soup, pate, salads, jams, cheese, and they have one of the biggest selections of fizzy tined drinks I have seen in town. For me the best bits are the morning rolls, goat log cheese and a new one just found Castle Noir cheese from Germany I think but, omg.

Firstly, the positives: - we went for a rare evening meal out without any children in tow, and couldn’t have been more pleased with the atmosphere - we sat downstairs and were the only ones there which was fab. - the waiter was lovely and very efficient - the wine was lovely - pudding was delicious! (Chocolate cake) Cons - the food was a bit of a let down… the pictures on the website made the food look great, but in real life, it was a bit of a disappointment - burnt pizza We would definitely come back, if only for the atmosphere and service, but the restaurant could do with looking at their food and it’s presentation

Called in for a breakfast bap and a cup of tea all served in good time, not the cheapest place in town and the decor is a little dated but the food was hot and tasty.

Lovely location tucked out of the bustle of town and the downstairs is very interesting packed with lots of nice items. We wanted brunch so ordered what sounded delicious however it wasnt the best. Really disappointed but this may be a one off and would definitely come back and try some of the other things on the menu.

Staff need serious training slicing meat I have never seen such a mess made of a Prosciutto serving. Totally unacceptable.

Love the lunch time baguettes. Rare beef with onion chutney (and horseradish) is a winner. And the Smoked Salmon and egg mayonnaise holds a shock second place

If you have a Groupon I would recommend ringing to check that they have seen your booking as we were disappointed to discover that they had no knowledge of our booking on the first visit and had no chef that day. The shop is a bit of a walk from the centre of Cheltenham.

Nice idea but poorly executed. I bought a few items from here that I later found out had been expired for about a week or more. Many of the products here are wildly overpriced, you can find equivalent/identical items much cheaper in so many other shops.

Would just like to thank Maison Chaplains for being so accommodating and honouring my Groupon voucher as it was due to expire on a weekday and I was unable to redeem this until the weekend. I telephoned the day it was due to expire and explained and to my delight, they were happy to book me in. My friend and I had a fantastic experience with the lovely staff expediting great customer service. And the scones were amazing! A great place to eat.

I'll start on a positive note, besides the delicious (late) scones and the lovely waiter and waitress. I really regret booking this Groupon. I booked the scones and tea deal as an extra birthday treat for my mum. When we arrived the staff members looking puzzled and explained they didn't know of my booking. Even though I had a booking confirmation email with correct date and time. When the owner approached us, explaining she hadn't seen it in the diary because they hadn't checked Groupon deals... Shocking considering the place was empty. The owner was rude and abrupt with no apology about her mistake. Then the owner came upstairs to take our drink order, sat talking to us for ages all about how her business was failing during lock down, which made us feel quite uncomfortable considering all I asked was how long the Deli had been open. I don't usually write reviews but the owner wasn't very welcoming or positive at all. My mum was disappointed and so was I, we won't be returning anytime soon. O

My daughter booked tea and scone for my birthday through groupon. When we got there they said they had no booking, I showed them my receipt, but they just said it was booked in line and they knew nothing about it. No apology very rude. We were so taken aback by their attitude, as we have read good reviews. They need to be taught how to treat people. My daughter ended up paying for something we didnt receive. Very poor . Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Lovely coffee, cakes, and people. Reminds me a bit of an Italian trattoria with the odds and ends nibbles in the downstairs bit. Limited seating but was perfect to warm up with an oat milk latte.

We are regulars and LOVE everything we have tried. Being an American in Cheltenham this place has sandwich’s that remind me of my former home. My hands down favorite is the fried egg and bacon sandwich. The baguettes are top notch. My kids love the gelato! Amazing!

It's quite pricey but the food is amazing, got 2 bacon and egg Baps for me and my wife, easily the best I've had in years. You pay more but I can appreciate where it goes. Highly recommended

Had a huge bill for four pieces of cheese and some other bits. When I queried the cost, the receipt I was given was only partially itemised. Four products were grouped together so I couldn't see where the high cost was coming from. Felt powerless to do anything about it. Much more expensive than other Cheltenham deli outlets with similar quality products

This place keeps me sane. I adore the Bakewell tarts almost more than my dog.. they are THE best. The ham on the bone is so tasty so forget the crass supermarket processed ham and buy their ham and the baguettes are a delight.. I have all bases covered and am thankful you are open to indulge in most of my sins! Usually would sit and add hot chocolate to my list of likes but it’s been a while since we can all sit at tables. Love the staff. Love the food. Best Bakewell tarts ever.. everyone says so. Thanks for being just down the road xx

I visited for the first time and whilst placing an order at the deli counter, a “regular “ came in behind me and the server then turned to him and completely ignored me and started to serve him , leaving me waiting. The servers were not wearing masks, They did not use gloves to handle the food , the bread were not covered. i ordered some cheese which was expensive and not good quality, looked and tasted like it had been left out for months. I will not be returning for to unfriendly staff and unsafe practices in this current climate.

We had a breakfast here and it was one of the worst breakfasts i ever had. Definitely not coming back here for food. Coffee and deserts are nice thou.

I love the coffee in here, the croissants are also amazing. The deli is pricey but this is an independent shop and it has kept going throughout, it is a great bakery and does breakfasts, etc.

Decidí comprar una caja de ensaladas para llevar para el almuerzo y me sorprendió bastante saber que serían las 9. 99. Incluso durante 7 años en Londres nunca vi un precio como ese, pero asumí que sería una caja grande que duraría más de un almuerzo.Para mi consternación, al finalizar la compra me presentaron el cuadro de la foto adjunta (junto al iPhone para comparar el tamaño). Aparentemente 9. 99 te ofrece una caja de lechuga en su mayoría con unos bocados de mayonesa de pollo, rellena con remolacha y ensalada de col. . .En ningún mundo eso vale 9. 99, especialmente para llevar, pero como cliente desde hace mucho tiempo, pagué por no querer crear una escena. Me encantaría saber CÓMO justifica la explotación de los clientes de esta manera. Parece que se están aprovechando de ellos y llevaré mi negocio a otra parte, a un lugar que no sea tan codicioso en sus precios.Es una verdadera lástima que me gustara MC antes de esta experiencia, pero es difícil justificar los tiempos de entrega extremadamente lentos además de los precios escandalosos cuando hay otras empresas que necesitan asistencia y no están tratando de exprimir / explotar a los clientes leales.Dicho esto, el pollo de la coronación vale la pena si vas a conseguir comida de aquí.

Me gusta Chaplais normalmente, pero hoy me horroriza ver que han abierto y están sirviendo comida sin ningún PPA y jóvenes charlando y riendo sobre los sándwiches mientras los preparan. Fue una experiencia totalmente previa a Covid. ¿Dónde está el dueño? ¿En qué está pensando? Tiré mi delicioso sándwich sin comerlo. Si obtengo Covid, sé dónde lo conseguí, ya que no he estado en ningún otro lugar. Horrible idiotez por parte del propietario.

This has been my go-to coffee shop in recent months. Lovely, friendly staff, particularly Kyle who always has a friendly welcome. The chocolate croissants are lovely, as are the baguettes. Would highly recommend.

Terrible. No hay estrellas si es posible para hacer esto.Dije que había estado en Tivoli Wines (excelente y realmente útil) para comprar un buen chocolate para un regalo de cumpleaños. Muy preparado para hacer cola, esperar, distancia pero después de al menos 5 minutos de espera no hay reconocimiento de que estuve allí. Otro cliente al que se atiende: una persona de larga discusión que atiende y este cliente sobre las actividades del fin de semana, viendo el gran premio. Si la persona que sirvió me hubiera dicho que estaría conmigo cuando pudiera, reconozca mi presencia, eso estaría bien, pero nada, ningún interés en absoluto.Soy una mujer de mediana edad (un poder adquisitivo considerable por cierto) pero obviamente no encajo con el grupo demográfico requerido en cuanto a la base de clientes.Me fui sin hacer mi compra.

Me encanta la comida y la gente de aquí. Los pasteles, el café y el pan son deliciosos. Me gustaría seguir visitando, pero no existe ninguna medida de distanciamiento social en forma de líneas de 2 m en el piso o marcas unidireccionales. Como tengo problemas de salud, esto hace que sea estresante evitar a los demás con tanta desgana que he tenido que dejar de visitar por ahora, pero volveré cuando sea seguro hacerlo.

Tuve un desayuno espantoso. Para 11 no incluía tostadas y el tocino estaba tan crujiente que se rompió por todas partes. El servicio fue lento. Uno de los peores desayunos de Cheltenham.En cuanto a comprar aquí. . . bien. . . el personal carece de personalidad hasta el punto de la mala educación. Compré el paté bastante caro, que sabía a vómito real. Había que tirarlo a la basura. El salami era sólido como una roca, como si hubiera estado sentado durante mucho tiempo. En general, lugar pretencioso, caro y antipático.

Ya estuve aquí una vez y comí el sándwich de rosbif. Era un sándwich realmente delicioso con carne de res perfectamente preparada.Volvió hoy para tener el mismo sándwich de rosbif con sopa. La sopa es deliciosa y la recomendaría. Sin embargo, hoy la carne del sándwich estaba apagada, olía y sabía raro. Terminé sacándolo de mi sándwich, al igual que mi compañero. Lo que significaba que había pagado bastante dinero por lo que esencialmente era un sándwich de lechuga y chutney.Es suficiente para desanimarme a volver a comer bocadillos en el futuro. Que es una pena.Puedes oler muy fácilmente que la carne no está fresca, por lo que esto debería haberse visto cuando hicieron los sándwiches.

Deli es genial y algunos productos maravillosos, sin embargo, pagamos 2 viajes aquí en dos días con varios amigos y quedamos muy decepcionados. Servido por un caballero un tanto hosco y silencioso, faltaba parte de la orden en mi plato, la comida de una amiga nunca apareció hasta que ella bajó para averiguar por qué, el camarero derramó los cubiertos en el regazo de los amigos cuando limpiaba, sin disculpas a pesar del desorden en la ropa, cucharaditas manchadas, inodoros sucios con una toalla de mano muy húmeda para secar las manos

Came in for breakfast before work with a friend, what a great choice! Excellent service, server Olivia was great so friendly and efficient. Food was 5*, best eggs ever from Nathan! Will definitely be returning!!

Used to go here a lot but this visit was really disappointing. Went in to get a takeaway sandwich and coffee. I was asked to repeat my order no less than 5 times and waited twenty minutes even though there seemed to be more staff than customers. My flat white was weak (1 shot rather than 2 I suspect) and my sandwich average. There seemed to be no organisation amongst the staff who seemed to be in complete chaos. Not sure I’ll be back.

More of coffee shop with deli than the other way round. With parking outside a warm welcome and all food good quality, what's not to like? In a terrace of shops in Tivoli a perfect place instead of central Cheltenham hubbub. A destination itself. And if they are there ALWAYS buy Misty rolls. Delicious!

Teníamos un 3. 00 reserva en Maison Chaplais para un té de crema. Cuando llegamos, había otras dos mesas ocupadas, cuando llegó nuestro Cream Tea, solo había una mesa ocupada y se fueron poco después. A partir de ese momento, hicimos que el servidor limpiara las mesas, lavara el piso o limpiara los inodoros que estaban a la vista de dónde estábamos sentados. Había un agradable aroma a desinfectante de pino y otras soluciones de limpieza. Nos hizo sentir que o pensaban que íbamos a pellizcar algo de la exhibición de cerámica o querían que nos fuéramos lo antes posible. No era un buen ambiente y aunque el café y el té con crema eran excelentes, no nos sentimos cómodos y nos fuimos tan pronto como pudimos. No volveríamos allí y no podríamos recomendar un establecimiento que trate a sus clientes así.

Este lugar es único, no solo una cafetería / tienda de delicatessen, sino más bien un tesoro de recuerdos coloridos, un lugar en el que escribir, conversar o simplemente estar solo. El personal es excepcional en su amabilidad, su apertura a todos, y la comida es sabrosa y deliciosa, variada según el gusto, para el almuerzo de media mañana o más tarde. .

Llegamos a Cheltenham ayer de haber vivido en Sydney por 4. 5 años, para llamar a la ciudad nuestro nuevo hogar. La primera parada fue conseguir nuestras llaves, ¡pero por casualidad nos topamos con Maison Chaplis debido a nuestra hambre de una sanga de tocino! Fue, con mucho, el más delicioso que he probado en el Reino Unido, y probablemente el más caro a los 6. 50! Dicho esto, el tamaño del bap y la gran cantidad de delicioso tocino de origen local, ¡fue un verdadero primer placer y bienvenido a Cheltenham! ! !

Un joli réconfort au vu du temps pluvieux de la journée ... très bon afternoon tea avec un serveur très sympa. Bonne adresse à recommander pour un thé ou un breakfast mais aussi pour son épicerie fine très variée et tentante !

Fuimos para el brunch hoy y la comida era de alta calidad sin embargo, el servicio parecía un poco desorientado. Nuestros cafés simplemente se colocaron en una bandeja grande y nos dejaron para que los resolviéramos. Sorprendido de ver la significativa diferencia de precio entre la entrada y salida de los cafés y para los pasteles, parecía haber alrededor de 1 extra para comer. Esto parece excesivo en los pasteles que ya tienen precios relativamente altos.

This place is part bakery, part deli and part coffee shop. Service is a bit clueless. When I asked whether they had any sandwiches, I was directed to a faded menu on the counter which didn’t list any sandwiches, But I then happened to see an enormous board on the wall listing a long selection. I ordered a salmon and egg sandwich, which consisted of not much bread but plenty of high quality filling. I ate at a counter by the window; the counter was covered in crumbs and the remains of someone’s food had not been cleared away. I paid £8.50 for what was a small sandwich and a small pot of tea, and came away feeling that it was hardly good value for money.

Gran pequeña cafetería y tienda de alimentos / delicatessen.

A wonderful salami and cheddar baguette with a bowl of minestrone made a perfect lunch and my wife swears the scrambled eggs and chorizo on toast could not be improved upon. A great place with a wonderful selection of goods for sale

Great scones, yummy drinks, nice place, friendly staff, good place to come for a weekday treat, came with my sister and children for a nice meet up, it was lush and relaxed

Soy un visitante regular, un lugar agradable, excelente café y comida. Sus baguettes y panes de semilla y masa fermentada son increíbles. Abierto los 7 días de la semana, muy bueno para mí. Muy recomendable, tengo que decir una vez más que el personal es super amable y nada es demasiado problema, también se admiten perros. Muy importante para mí.

First impressions of this establishment not good. On walking to the counter we were faced with a very tired looking girl (we later heard her complaining to the other one customer there that she was tired). Very unenthusiastic welcome, in fact no real welcome at all. Immediately behind the woman was a sink full of dirty plates/crockery - note to the manager - this is not what the customer wants to see, the washing up should be done out of sight. There was an array of cakes on offer, not attractively presented and not under cover but open for all customers to breathe over. Again, note to the management, presentation is all and produce should be hygenically presented, under cover when it's right in front of the customers nose - how about investing in some covered cake stands? Most tea room type establishments do this.

My family and I visited Maison Chaplais for breakfast as a treat for my birthday. We all love American style pancakes, as my husband is half Yank, and I was particularly looking forward to being able to enjoy eating them and not having to cook! We were not disappointed. The pancakes themselves were light, fluffy but deceptively filling; the blueberries / chipotles and maple syrup were perfectly proportioned and fresh. Unfortunately, my photos do not do the food justice.

A gem! Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The scones, jam and cream were good. But best was the upstairs lounge/diner which was welcoming.

This is a veritable treasure trove of French & Mediterranean goodies to purchase & what a fabulous selection of home baked breads & pastries (including one of the best baguettes outside France & that is compliment indeed from a French girl!)

We went hoping to savour the American Artisan pancakes...which retail at over £7per person if i remember correctly (drink extra). I attach a photo of what arived. I cannot spot anything artisan in this. The international House of Pancakes - hardly an artisan establishment- has this beaten on every aspect- presentation, taste and value.

Given you'll end up paying £9 for a sandwich and a coffee, there are better options within a few hundred metres. Coffees arrived quickly, sandwiches took a while longer than one would expect.

Our first visit here and what a hidden gem! Great ambience, first class service, fab coffee and the best scones I've ever eaten. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stopped in at Maison Chaplais on our way home from a chilly morning walk with a view to either stopping for lunch or getting a baguette and taking it home. When we saw what was on offer we decided to stay for soup and our choice of bread. Both of us really enjoyed our food.
