We stopped as we are staying in the area. Easy to get to, felt welcome. We had fish and chips, and lamb shank. Both were really good, large portions. The lamb was lovely and the veggies with it were perfect. Fish was delicious, and a lot of chips! We recommend!

Have been before, and as that was good came back. Chicken Kiev, my friend had a burger. Both excellent, the burger with fresh, crisp chips and salad and had a good char, in a good bun. The Kiev came with blanched and sautéed leeks, carrots and kale, and hasselback potatoes. All excellent. The Kiev itself was crispy, large, with a gooey cheese centre. All absolutely excellent and served with a smile.

The Kilcot was a regular haunt, to meet old friends and for ages everything was good: reliable food, friendly service, and a good pub atmosphere. That seems to have evaporated under the current ownership. On our visit we were the only diners at lunchtime. None of the four of us were much impressed by either food or service: not somewhere we’d soon return to.

We stopped for dinner in passing and we’re very glad we did! An interesting mixed menu, a very friendly welcome, background music in the background where it belongs, a lovely atmosphere and style. The food was just outstanding; so much finer than we were expecting. Really well balanced flavours and beautifully presented. This would be a great place to cycle to; we look forward to exploring the garden some time soon.

Visited Easter Sunday booked table in bar due to having dogs with us. Very disappointed in the lack of choice food wise. On the website showed full menu which is why we booked. On arrival only roast dinner or fish & chips. Opted for fish had chips. Was freshly cooked and plenty food. We were the only people in pub apart from man at bar for well over an hour. Would have thought would be busy on Easter Sunday.

Driven past a few times so thought we’d give it a try. Busy bar, friendly, very nice environment, clean, warm. Short menu which implied no freezer surprizes. Opted for Whitebait followed by cod n chips. Both excellent, crisp whitebait, nice salad, big piece of cod in thin, crispy batter, good chips. Excellent pint of Butty Bach, friendly efficient waitress. Nicely kept bar area and very nice toilets. Booked on a whim and glad we did.

We had an OK experience but it was nothing special. The food was all right, but basic pub food, with a couple of options unavailable. No specials. The owners have been there a year and were friendly enough but, as we were the only group eating it lacked atmosphere. Good thing we all decided to order starters rather than have a main and pudding as it took over an hour for the mains to arrive! Pub clean and tidy.

Booked for Sunday lunch in advance. The vegetables were very nice, however the meat was not nice, very tough and fatty, which is a shame. The position of the table wasn’t ideal (other tables were available) as it was by the door, which caused a draught, when other customers & deliveries were made. Lacking in ambience. The staff were polite however lacking in training. Won’t bother returning, very disappointed especially because the meal was for a special guest occasion.

Disappointing… waiting staff super miserable and unhelpful. Ordered kids meals which the menu said came with beans but were served peas. When questioned, the peas were returned and we were told they had run out of beans. It seemed like the staff couldn’t care less about anyone or anything! Beef was cut very thick, chewy and was nowhere near pink. The wine was nice but not at £10 per 250ml!!! Too expensive for the poor quality. Bar staff were lovely but that’s probably my only positive.

We went with our friend for lunch. We found the Kilcot lacking in atmosphere and very sparse. Nothing n the blackboard, no specials. We also found the menu hasn’t changed this year. No local wines, veg or fruit. Our lunch was very disappointing, the steak and ale pie was dry, just looked like it had been reheated and not freshly cooked. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips, but mind was lacking the fish, the plates were cold, the chips over done so were the peas. The pudding sticky toffee pudding was definitely not home made, it was a square of chocolate sponge, a very small scoop of ice cream, and heated in the microwave. I didn’t like to compas it was a treat for us from our dear friend. After we left our friend said himself how dissatisfied he was with the meal and that he will not be going back again, I have to agree. This place is going down hill, the cost and quality is far from what you expect.

Booked dinner at the Kilcot Inn for 5 of us (1 vegetarian). Overall opinion was that they ‘nearly’ got it right, but it was overpriced for the standard.Vegetarian meals - brushetta with aubergine was nice but courgettes with chick peas just didn’t quiet work, all the elements were there, but it didn’t quite work as a whole. The bean burger was too ‘smooshy’ according to my daughter.Steak and chips were nice, Tiger Prawn and Octopus was good but it was felt that a second Tiger Prawn would have been reasonable. Two courses for £20.75. Staff were friendly and attentive but as a whole I can’t give it more than an average rating.

I really don't do negative reviews, but this time I feel it is necessary. We booked to stay here for just one night as a treat as we had a hard time of things, and were tired, hungry and in need of a good meal and RnR. When we arrived there was a notice outside to say no food being served. So we had to drive into Ross( we had already driven 140 miles to be there) for dinner. Apparently we had been informed by e mail there was no meals that night. On checking when we got home, nothing had been mentioned about that. The bar shut before 10 pm! To be fair the room was lovely and the bed was comfortable. Then there was 'breakfast', consisting of an apple, a poached egg, sliced tomato and pot of beans. Then the phone was ringing and the housekeeper was informed of this and she said 'we don't answer the phone in the morning'. What??? Potentially turning away business? So sad as this place could be lovely. I will go elsewhere in future.

We stopped here on our way by so hadn’t booked. The Sunday menu was very limited. Two of us didn’t want a roast so had one fish dish and one salad (the only options other than roast). The fish was good, the salad uninspiring. The 2 or 3 course option was pricey for the standard of food. Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was excellent however and the waitress was pleasant and friendly.

Not normally one for writing bad reviews. Its best just not to go back or speak to the staff personally. On this occasion we did speak to the staff but it got us nowhere. We have always had very good experiences here and I’m not sure what has happened to the place? Has the chef and waiting staff changed ? Firstly the vegetarian option was very dry it did not come with gravy.. We were told they don’t do it. What is the point in offering a vegetarian option with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes if there is no gravy? Just mix some bisto with hot water ? The vegetarian quiche was soggy and inedible. The waiting staff did offer to change when shown but we were told it would probably come out the same. The gravy that came with the meat dishes was like water. The roast potatoes were hard inside and soft on the outside. The meat was so thin almost wafer thin it looked like the meat you get in school dinners and would not have been out of place in the sandwich filler section at Tesco.the only positives I can say is the broccoli and mash was tasty. There was one poor waiter doing all the serving even on big tables . So by the time all the food and got to the table. it had started to go cold. This whilst the young waitresses just stood at the bar chatting to other staff. Then the worst part. Having to pay for it. For this awful meal it was £77! For 1 vegi inedible quiche, one lamb , 1 pork and 2 children’s meals . I think business have the right to charge good prices for good locally sourced food. However this meal wasn’t worth anything like that.I’m not sure but I think we may have been charged for 2 course however no one said anything to us and we ended up leaving before they even cleared are plates because sat there for ages. Very sad. Won’t be back. Always loved going here

This is an upmarket local pub with decent food, but not particularly welcoming. We made the error of trying to amend a couple of dishes (salad instead of potatoes, and a small main as a starter) and requesting a bread basket for the kids. This appeared to mark us out as difficult customers, as the service deteriorated from this point.

Very good service but was busy.. which is good of course but had to wait 15 mins or so for drinks. 2 courses for around £20, drinks expensive, 1 glass white wine and a pint lager was £14.00 2 courses each came to £55:00 all in.We had sirloin steak with a very watery peppercorn sauce, and the cornfed chicken breast was tough.Starters very disappointing, there wasn’t a choice not to have a starter within the menu, we chose courgette with a cold jar base caramelized onion, a few leaves with tin chick peas thrown over the top. Shame actually as the surroundings were nice and the place was clearly busy.We are foodies and we do like quality food when we eat out.. but we would want good local cooked from scratch food at this price, after all, there is a lot of competition within this area… customers make their choice. This would not be one of ours.

Was looking forward to going to the Kilcot Inn, looked at booking many places locally but chose here because of the reviews and supposedly great menu choice.Firstly really disappointed with the evening menu choice not half of what was on the website and just 1 special..Ordered the Camembert sharing starter with baked apples and bread, for a start it only came out with 2 really small pieces of bread, really don’t know how they class that for sharing ?The baked apple was just a few slices of raw apple placed on top and the Camembert was horrible. The mains were ok but small portions and supposed to had asparagus but had broccoli instead.Had the fruit berry sundae and brownies for dessert. The brownie was hard like cake and not gooey at all, not the nicest at all and the sundae, well I’ve never seen a sundae glass so small it was not much taller or wider than an egg cup !!Staff were friendly and polite, but overall we all were really disappointed with our food, after looking at so many other places, wish I had chose somewhere else, would not recommend.

It’s wonderful when somewhere exceeds expectations and this country pub did.. in spades. So many so called gastro pubs fail to deliver but The Kilcot delivers wonderful food in generous portions with outstanding service. No failure in sight. So to the details.. I’m fussy about my wine and while they may not have a huge cellar, they have a great choice of wines by the glass (my choice was an excellent Marlborough Sav and an equally good Rioja) and they have better by the bottle. We had a great choice for dinner but we both went for the steak and ale pie which may sound boring but on this occasion was nothing but oh so tasty! Now to the service.. I train customer service which makes me a pain in the rear but I was so impressed with this team. They didn’t make one mistake and were friendly and personable. So, in short.. we recommend and we will be back!!!

We were absolutely chocked and frankly insulted. We also ordered mustard which arrived half an hour late but the staff still served it sedpite us both having long finished our half pie meals (if you can call them 'meals') - this place is an aboslute sham and we not only feel cheated but utterly annoyed that a placed can have the arrogance to defraud its customers. The food however did not come up to scratch. My wife had an 'Avacado and Prawn' starter, but there was no Avacado. I had the Soup which had so much pepper in it, it was almost unedible. Some butter with the bread roll would have been nice. The main we both ordered a Sirloin steak, I ordered mine Medium Rare and my wife ordered Medium. My wifes steak was slightly well done and mine was very well done. It was seasoned well and tasted nice, but not cooked how we ordered. We visited this evening and had a wonderful meal. I had a sirloin steak and my boyfriend had the venison. Both were delicious. Really glad the Kilcot is open again with superb food and thanks to Sarah and the team for making us feel so welcome.

Excellent early Saturday afternoon meals served professionally and cooked to perfection. Generous choice of lunch time meals, very pleased with my vegan mixed smoked beans on toasted focaccia. Quality wines stocked with suggested recommendations on menu next to many of the dishes. Location conveniently close to the M50.

We went to the Kilcot today for Sunday lunch. We arrived and were seated promptly. We had to wait for my parents to join us as they got caught in flooding which delayed them by 25 mins the Kilcot was accomadating and didn't rush us at all. My parents and I had the Roast Beef and my husband had the lamb it was beautifully cooked. We were told it was cooked rare and if that was ok with us, which it was.We had a great selection of vegetables which were very yummy and complemented the meats well. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding, brownie and crumble between us. Again beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We were able to sit and chat after our meal and didn't feel as if we had to get up and go like we have in other restaurants. The staff were very polite and easy to speak to checking on us and topping up drinks etc.I would definitely recommend The Kilcot ☺️

We visited the Kilcot tonight for a romantic meal. The weather was terrible so the pub was a little quite when we got their as some roads were flooded. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. I had the steak which was cooked exactly as I asked. My partner had a starter aswell which was a well presented. I had a sticky toffee pudding for desert which was very tasty. Safe to say we went away very full. The wine was also good and the staff friendly and attentive. We will look forward to coming back in better weather.

Went here on the Sunday before Christmas, eight adults +baby in highchair. Service was good and friendly. Obviously it was busy but we didn’t notice any lack of attention or have a long wait for food. And they were very good with the baby! We all enjoyed our meals and the veg was all nicely cooked, especially the cauliflower cheese. The desserts were good but we do believe that there should be an explanation of what the Jolly Jester ice cream is - none of us liked it and may have chosen another dessert had we known that it contained beer! However, I would recommend the restaurant and hope to visit for a family get together again soon.

We booked in November and were very clear about my inability to eat alliums [onions, leeks, garlic etc etc] - not an anaphylactic reaction but it would make me unwell and give me a very unpleasant night. All seemed well on arrival, and we were shown to a table in a corner near the cups and saucers so a bit far from the atmosphere. We did have a glass of prosecco on arrival and my wife enjoyed her additional glass of white wine. An 'amuse-bouche' was brought to the table, which I mistook for the starter but was reassured that it was ok. Fortunately, I tested a very small amount of the avocado puree ; it was onioned. We were reassured again that the meal would be fine. No replacement for the amuse-bouche appeared. I could not eat any of the starters so we arranged a goat's cheese starter which was ok if unimaginative [a piece of cheese with a small amount of rocket but no carbohydrate]; my wife's starter was lovely, she says. The main arrived in good time. In spite of a month's notice, it was clearly too much to ask to have 3 roast potatoes done in a separate dish, nor was there any sausage meat stuffing equivalent on my plate. Compared with my partner's, my plate looked a tad sad. I suppose this was not a disaster but given premium Christmas day prices, I was a tad disappointed. How hard would it have been to put a few potatoes in a small tray with a piece of sausage meat? Or slice them and fry them in a small pan. This is not a huge restaurant and staff were not running around looking stressed. Pudding arrived, mine was small but very nice but my wife did not recognise hers; she started on it, decided to check her order, and realised she had not ordered the parfait. The replacement arrived after I had finished my Christmas pudding. So, front of house staff were very pleasant and apologised.

A local to us, it was a great favourite even if things went wrong, that happens. The atmosphere and charm of Mark et al won us over.Come back Mark.Please.It is now, for us, devoid of charm though the food is usually good even if I personally find it difficult to find something I really want from the menu.

A large table of 11 of us + a baby had Sunday lunch. The atmosphere is good, set in a nice pub building with plenty of parking.Staff were clearly very busy and we can’t fault them. Though their rushing meant that very little attention was shown. Polite, correct meals brought out and there was no noticeable slow-down, despite our large table. However, staff were not pro-active to check on us after food was delivered. Which is a shame as I’d have raised a couple of things regarding meal quality.A few of us had Goats Cheese Salad to start. Imagine some coarse black pepper and those big chunks that get through the grinder. It was a sprinkling of goats cheese that resembled that pepper situation. Combined with three wafer thin slices of beetroot as decoration and this lovely sounding starter was basically a pretty pile of lettuce leaves. It’s not like goats cheese is an expensive cheese, so why give so little of it that it’s barely present at all? My ham hock was adequate.Mains were served. A mix of pork, beef, lamb etc. My pork was very tasty but almost none of it was meat. Perhaps 75% fat and crackling (perfect crackling) and 25% meat. The potato’s were fluffy inside (good) and stale on the outside (bad). The veg that was served allowed for about 1” of carrot per person and a couple of sprouts of very overdone broccoli that may as well have been mashed up with the spoon full of mashed swede. Probably enough veg for four good portions, divided between 11 people. Value wise...£20 for Sunday lunch starter & main or £24 Starter, main and desert. If the food was great, it would be an absolute no-brainier. But it wasn’t great. It was average at best. Which is why I award a 3/5. So in summary, nice spot with good (though not enough) staff with severely lacking food quality for the price. Worth the AA 4* award they proudly display? Definitely not on the day we attended. Sorry.

Went For our third anniversary. Absolutely delightful food and service. The atmosphere was perfect with a live singer and a lovely fire. We both Had the beef tartare followed by the Welsh Black Steak which was probably the best steaks we’ve ever had. Perfect temperature red wine to accompany. Highly recommended !

We had the Sunday lunch menu and tried the roast lamb, roast beef and belly pork. The beef was cooked to perfect pink and served in thick slices with a delicious onion jus. The belly pork was crisp on the outside and the lamb was also delicious. Roast potatoes were nice and crisp and there was a good choice of vegetables.

We come here to meet friends from where we used to live. My wife enjoyed lunch in the week and four of us had a really excellent Sunday lunch today. The roast beef came exactly as ordered, and melted in the mouth. Marvellous Yorkshire puds, and roasted spuds. Nearly made up for Wales loosing the rugby- the Landlord was still struggling with his disappointment and it showed.

We went to this quaint little Inn twice, came recommended by the Pauntly Court visitor book and so glad we went. The duck breast is out of this world, nicely prepared, presentation amazing, and the combination of flavors is interesting and delightful. We also tried the lamb with apricot glaze and the salmon, both equally delicious. They have a nice selection of wine by the glass and of course ales on tap. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are very friendly. Prices are good.

We last visited in 2013 and although there are now different owners the experience is still excellent. From the time we arrived until the time we left we were treated like friends. We were the same group that met there in 2013 but sadly one member was not with us. Hey ho, we loved our meal and hope to return sooner. All five of us chose different meals and we were all pleased with our choices. Highly recommend.

My fiancé and I visited for our holiday and had an amazing experience. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming. Have perfect bar banter and can recommend any drink to any novice drinkers out there. I was greeted with 5 different ciders that were all premium choice-not a strongbow dark fruit in sight. Hallelujah !!!!

We came here just for drinks on the first night of our holiday & were so impressed by the lovely staff & dog area - being able to let our dog off the lead in the designated garden area was a huge bonus whilst we relaxed with a glass of wine. We had a look at the menu & decided to come for food the next day. We both had starters & mains, all of which were absolutely delicious, with brilliant service & at a reasonable price for the standard of food we received. The staff & fellow customers were very friendly & even made sure that our dog got plenty of attention & care. There is also a large variety of different beverages to try so you’re not just restricted to one cider or wine etc which is just lovely. The place itself is very welcoming, cosy & very clean with beautiful outdoor areas too. My fiancé and I can not fault our experience at all & would definitely recommend coming here for food or just drinks!! We will definitely be returning again!!

We arrived early for lunch on a Wednesday as we have a very large Dobermann dog and wanted to make sure there was space for him We were greeted by a lovely young lady and shown to our table. The fire was roaring as we walked in and we knew straight away we had found the perfect Cotswolds pub Lunch was delicious,we had the Welsh rarebit, washed down with a mulled wine and a pint of local lager Service was outstanding, friendly and efficient. Our Dobermann got plenty of strokes too! Highly recommend this place. Not sure that you will find any better in the Cotswolds. A lovely setting too!

We had the tasting menu on a Sunday night, which in most places on a Sunday the passion and enthusiasm for guests is often not there. Here however the food was outstanding, the service first class. Nothing was to much trouble. Just right for a birthday getaway. I would quite happily come back and eat everyday! The taste, presentation and portion sizes were just perfect. Congratulations to the whole team.

They said that i could order chips but be cooked in a different fryer due to my celiac disease but when asked they wouldn't do it due to being busy. I don't get to have takeaways now and this was a treat but was let down. Lovey feedback from them 👇👇 well mannered 👍 avoid if you have dietary requirements.
