The Ketch in Woking

Ordered 2 Large COD and Chips as an ex-chef I think this was just white fish not COD. But Service was very good batter on fish not crispy and chips not very good at all small hard Pices and the rest soggy. Total bill £36.24 Delivered. Service charge £1.60 ????? Delivery £2.49 ok

Lovely Fish and chips. I prefer skinless fish and it was no effort for the staff to prepare the fish just as I requested. The shop is always busy and people queue outside whenever it is open. I would also recommend the sausage as sourced locally

well organised flow of customers, limit parking outside. All the staff are friendly and always smiling. food is cooked fresh and hot.

1 - rip off! Chicken burger was dry, stringy and not white! It seems it is very old or has been frozen for a long time! Bun not even toasted, dry and cheap. The meat itself only filled half the bun! For £6.60 it is disgusting! The chips were £2.90 for a tiny portion! Horrid! Pics taken

Since they deliver through just eat, I decided to try it. The delivery was efficient, even though it was 10mins late still the food was hot and good quality. Portions were good and taste of fresh fish and love their chips as well. Now I can't go anywhere else for fish&chips as this is one of the best place. Staffs are friendly and pleasant as well. Recommended to everyone

We have just found this little gem and have been going for takeaways. Very fresh fish, gorgeous chips, scampi and pies. Very generous portions and nice and hot !

Simply the best fish and chips takeaway for miles around. Very popular as it always appears to have a waiting queue (not too long though).

Have used this fish and chip shop for a number of years now. We are not great 'takeaway' people but do like it occasionally. The service is prompt and it seems most of the time when we arrive, the fish is being cooked fresh. The batter is crispy, chips well done and the kids meals are really good value for money.

Another fantastic meal - we regularly phone in an order and have never been disappointed.

We have just had cod and chips from the Ketch. Without exaggeration, you could not have got better cooked fish anywhere. The quality of the fish and the batter was superb. The chips were very good too. We would highly recommend the Ketch. The staff are always very helpful and obliging.

I have been getting my Fish and Chips from here for years and yes the prices go up a little from time to time but it’s true what they say “You get what you Pay for” So lucky to have it as our local..

Chips currently in our fryer due to being undercooked do i even want to risk the meat ? A large sausage was £1.50 and small was 75p but now have increased 🤦‍♀️

My husband and I recently moved to woking. We were looking for somewhere to get old fashioned fish and chips as a treat. Being old age pensioners we are on a budget. We found this place and they do a delivery for people our age. The price was good and the portions just right for us. And I tasted delicious

This is our first call for takeaway food, and serves the best fish & chips for miles around. Friendly and super efficient staff always greet you with a smile led by owner & chief "fryer" Mario. As well as the usual fish & chip fayre, there are burgers & fried chicken available and the quality is excellent. If you are going for Friday supper, you may have a short wait as there is normally a queue out the door, which shows the popularity. They do kids meal deals, and some "pensioner specials" at lunchtime. We feel really lucky to have such a good chippy on our doorstep

The Ketch has been serving great fish and chips for years and a change of ownership, years ago, has done nothing to dent it's reputation. The fish always taste fresh and the chips are great, too. Recommended!

Been using the ketch for some time now as they ere the best around however recently the standards are dropping a little - large cod is no longer that large and therefore does not havethe big chunky flakes I like and a couple of times recently the chips have been slightly under done for my tastes - just a faint taste of raw potato in the odd chip - dont know of a better one around yet but not as good

Tried the Ketch for the first time tonight. Best fish and chips I've had. Ever. Reasons: large portions, wafer thin batter, good price. Chips are great too. Curry sauce nice and tasty but not too spicy. Overall an amazing Friday night meal.

Decent fish and chips though was a long line at door. The fish was nice but a little smaller than I've eaten at other chip shops. Liked the chips though a bit on the cool side by time I drove the 6 minutes home.

By far the best fish and chip shop around Woking, because the food is cooked to order you have to queue but it's worth waiting for. the fish is a good size portion and the batter always crisp and golden, if buying for pensions the chips come free of charge. Good range of food other than fish. Yummy

This is an excellent traditional fish and chip takeaway.. Staff are fast and efficient and pleasant. My plaice was the size of a dinner plate and chip portion generous. I suspect one of their secrets is to change the cooking oi daily. Something many others do not do.

Since moving to St Johns we have eaten far too much fish & chips thanks to The Ketch. Great chips and the fish, sausages and pies are just as good. The servers are always helpful and friendly too which is a bonus.

Moderno y limpio, pero sigue siendo un gran tradicional chips. Mario y su equipo son siempre muy agradable y acogedor. Sirven comida maravillosa y había una gran variedad de elementos en el menú para atraer a aquellos que quieren más que pescado y patatas fritas.

This is not our closest fish and chip shop, but the one we prefer by far. We order regular cod and chips. The sizing is generous, but most importantly the cod is moist and perfectly cooked whilst the batter is deliciously crispy - very satisfying. The chips aee just right, not too soft, still have a bit of texture. The packaging is eco-friendly.

Got a large cod and chips out of here a couple of times recently. It is absolutely amazing. I don't usually have fish and chips but I always crave it when i drive past this place now.

Excellent quality Fish & Chips cooked to perfection without being greasy. Very good portions and wrapped very well . Pricing is also average but when quality is compared others do not meet the same standard Only 2 x criticisms - parking can be a challenge . There is a small car park for the local Co Op but its a first come basis and then at busy times ie Friday evenings, you might need to join a queue outside but.....its worth the wait Could have done with this being open between Christmas & New Year so used another locally and unfortunately , it was definitely not as good. No need to go elsewhere - if you enjoy excellent Fish & Chips this is the place to go

Situated in a beautifully quintessential little village. Excellent fish n chips, nice friendly girls and great value especially lunchtime specials! Well worth a trip!

Got a battered sausage, cod and chips. The food smelt great! And I couldn't wait to eat it. Definitely worth the distance as there were closer chip shops!

Unlike Seafare up the road which is a dishonest and overpriced establishment, The Ketch is the complete opposite and a complete gem. You get exactly what you order and pay for, you want large, you get large. The fish is tasty, and it's always popular with the locals when we visit (Always a good sign). Dont' miss out, this is a must visit!

Really good fish and chips. Regular size is a decent portion for any adult, and children's cod and chips is around 1/2 regular size and lovely quality. At £3.20 for a children's meal with a drink and colouring booklet, it's a good value treat. I liked that the children's cod is not the 'tail' end like many other fish and chip shops do, but a lovely, meaty part. Haven't tried the fried chicken yet but looks lovely so that's next on the list.

By far the best. The tastiest fish and chips ever... you have to wait for the fish to be cooked but it is so worth it as it is fresh and melts away on the fork. The food is always fresh and tasty and well priced - what more can you ask for... it's the best fish and chip shop ever

I usually only write reviews on hotels or holiday destinations but The Ketch really deserves to be an exception to the rule. We have been a customer of The Ketch for years and never had anything but the best fish and chips. It is always cooked freshly to order and is worth the short wait. The fish is never dry(my pet hate) and the chips are never greasy. I have not had them myself, but my daughter says the chicken nuggets are much better than Birds Eye! My son loves the burgers so all in all the whole family are happy every time. Thank-you to Mario and the team( and see you on Saturday!)

Wouldn't ever go anywhere else for fish and chips - super friendly and fast as they can be. The chips are perfectly soggy without dissolving into a ball of mush, but still with a few crispies, the batter is always brilliant. Just all-round wonderful.

I'm a regular user of The Ketch. It's an okay fish & chip shop - the best in the area.However, when I visit, make an order for food already cooked - fish-cake & chips - visible & waiting to be purchased, I do not expect to have to wait-in-queue . . . for some 15 minutes. Those customers who have to wait for their selection to be cooked will not be disrupted if I am served before them.Get a bloody grip Mario. You're the boss. Engage some common sense.

Regularly use The Ketch. Portions are great - usually cooked to order. Prices are very reasonable. Sometimes a bit of a queue but thats cos the food is great!!Best chippy in the area!!

We have had a selection of different foods from the menu and it has always been excellent. It might be slightly more expensive than the other fish and chip shop in the village but worth every penny.

Always seems busy when passing so thought we would give this a try. Limited parking nearby and we queued at the door. Staff seemed very busy and efficient. Rock salmon was flaky with a light batter, saveloy, burger, kids chicken nuggets were all good. We all agreed they were large portions of chips which weren't as chunky or tasty as we would have hoped for chip shop chips. £19 bill for 3 adults and 1 small child, only child's drink included with the kids meal.

Fast and efficient and nice fish n chips. Could do with a smile in between orders but they are busy so I guess its ok. Just order, wait, take the food and get out of the way, then enjoy :)

I asked for a small fish and chips...£5.90! From what I could see, they don't offer a cone of chips or a mini-fish like other chip shops. It was Cod, however.The chips were really nice and the fish was OK - I've had better but it was nice and flaky and cooked while I waited.I would go back but probably just for some chips.

I come in here quite a lot and have never had a bad meal. The manager Mario is really friendly and the same goes to all his other staff, the food portions are very good, you won't go hungry. And it also has very good prices. I will never go to any other fish and chip shop.

I come here often to pick up lunch for office colleagues. Order taken promptly and swiftly but cant help feel out of place. Staff is very cold and unfriendly. at least the food is very good but leaves a bad after taste with the cold experience from staff...

Working in the area and on recommendations visited for lunch. Pleasantly suprised with a £2 sausage and chips deal. Added a mushy peas for added pleasure.Freshly cooked, good portion size and good service. Cheaper and more filling than a supermarket meal deal.

One of the best if not the best fish and chips shop in the area always busy. It's friendly staff and repeat customers makes me feel very warm and welcome. Food is excellent from the standard cod and chips to the unusual burgers are good no matter what time of the day. Overall a very good and convenient fish and chips shop in the St John's area.

My family has been buying fish and chips from the Ketch for many years. We have tried many other local chip shops but keep coming back here. The food is freshly cooked and does not have time to sit due to the volume of customers. The queue out of the door is testament to the well deserved popularity of this establishment.

Not a particularly subtle place, but for good portions of well cooked fish and chips, this place is fantastic! Prices are reasonable for the area and portions noticeably bigger than elsewhere. Staff generally very friendly despite shop getting very busy indeed most evenings

I have been a customer of the Ketch for many years. The food is always fresh and with the voliume of customers it is always freshly made. It only does takeaway and there is no seating but you can always walk over to the Lye.

This is a tiny little fish and chip shop which doesn't look much from the outside but don't be fooled....the fish and chips from this shop are lovely...can be long queues at times but I take that as a sign of good food!

We regularly get fish and chips from the Ketch (once a week / fortnight). The large cod and large chips are enough for 2; cooked to perfection EVERY time! My friend visited recently and asked for batterless cod.....no problem for Mario.....the best my friend had ever tasted.We live a 5-10 minute drive away....well worth the effort. We'll even sort a detour when the local bridge will be out of action for about 9 weeks!!Take a brolly if the weather is a bit iffy, there's not much room inside and on a Friday the queue reaches outside.

We go to the Ketch about 4 times a year and every time the food is exceptional and the service is very good if rapid. The food is freshly cooked by Mario, the large Cod is huge and the chips are always well cooked and tasty. It is the best chippy in Woking.

I have never written an online review before but, this evening, I am compelled by the near inedible fish and chips from the Ketch. It was a nostalgic visit to a chippy I considered the best in Woking when I was younger but tonight was a real let down.Staff were polite and service was ok but, as soon as I opened up the wrapping, I could see I would not enjoy it. Batter on the fish was soggy and stuck to the paper. The chips were bland and tasteless: even the curry sauce could not add any flavour. Absolutely horrible, and I say that with no hyperbole at all. Neither of us finished our meals. Perhaps we were unlucky and got them on an off night but we will not be going back to find out.

Mario & Helen are the fantastic proprietors of Woking's best chippie.I've been eating here on a regular basis (monthly on average) for the last 8 years. It's best to call ahead of time on busy Friday nights, otherwise you may be in for a wait as it is so popular.

Lovely food! Everything good about the place apart from this one young woman that works there.... she looks like she can't be bothered with her job and didn't smile once! Obviously for this sort of place you don't expect it to be perfect but could at least have a smile on her face and be welcome

The Ketch has now become my first choice of chip shop. The staff are always friendly, well turned out and seem happy to be there. As you'd expect, the menu is standard fish n chip fare but what's noteworthy is that it is always freshly cooked to order and of a very high quality, even during busy periods.Just watch the step on the way out!

Good old fashioned Fish and Chips at Lunch time - what can I say - fish was cooked to perfection(Haddock and Cod) chips done just right - will use again when in the area - well done

Very good family run chippy, This is the only fish and chip shop who's products do not give me heart burn after eating.

Always cooked perfectly best around. Friendly staff and owner cooks the food, you can tell he is proud of his business unlike Seafare who employ children who cant cook chips or fish!
