The Jug and Glass was perfect in every way. Great staff, very clean, great food and very comfortable accommodation. Vicky, Daryl and Kayla looked after us and we left after 3 fabulous days hoping to return some day. Couldn’t fault our few days. Vicky is an exceptional host.

We have visited the Jug and Glass often and are very relieved that they have weathered the pandemic and come back with there familiar warm welcome and great homely food. Next time I will ensure my appetite is good enough to have one of there deserts, usually a crumble with lsbings of custard.

Popped in here for a coffee this afternoon. Ordered 2 coffees then asked the barman if he had any cake. He said 'no, no cake'. I was expecting him to offer an alternative as this is usual in my experience of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Alas, that was the end of the conversation and i found it quite abrupt. I looked around at the pub for a menu and perused the notice board. On turning around i saw a menu on the bar. I asked the barman if i could have one. Picking up the menu, i turned it over and was surprised to see that there was a dessert list. Low and behold, there on the list was Chocolate Fudge Cake. I turned to the barman and said 'There is cake on the menu' to which he replied- 'Those are desserts'. I thought to myself 'Am i missing something here'? I said 'Yes cake'. The landlord answered 'Well they're hot'. By this time i gave up, drank my coffee and left. Good luck if you're driving over the Peak District and fancy a little something to eat. You may just accidently enter The Twighlight Zone!

Because of covid and social distancing measures we decided to book here for an evening meal. Glad we did as its a very popular place and has on-site camping facilities. We were glad to see some covid measures were in place as far as social distancing went. I had slow cooked beef in pepercorn sauce and my wife had ham, egg and chips. Good, tasty food, well presented. We had the homemade chocolate/orange cheese cake for afters which was very good indeed. Nice place, warm welcome.

We wanted to take our 16 year old daughter to Alton Towers, living on the south coast we needed overnight accommodation. We found this place and called to ask about booking 2 rooms, the lady suggested she put an extra bed in our room for an extra £20 per night which we agreed to. It is easy to find but on a road literally in the middle of nowhere, about 20 mins outside of beautiful Buxton. It is a very charming little place, to our surprise the rooms were huge and beautifully decorated ( room 5) even with the extra bed there was plenty of room. The beds were really comfy and the shower hot and powerful, perfect! We had dinner in the pub the first night, it was so cosy with the fire burning and the food was all home cooked and delicious. 30 minute drive to Alton Towers the next morning through beautiful countryside and back to the pub for drinks in the evening then bed. Cooked breakfast both mornings was included in the price, again totally delicious. The hosts were very welcoming and attentive, we couldn't fault anything . We would definitely recommend if visiting this area. We hope to visit again soon.

Our second visit of 2020, once again outstanding hosts (the management), comfortable/clean king size room/en-suite and the best food in the peak district breakfast and dinner. Excellent bed and breakfast, Hobgoblin IPA was to die for!!!! Well looked after, we shall return again in 2021. Best Wishes for the winter season Amanda, Mike & Harley (the Black Labrador)

We came here after reading all the positive reviews on here and I am glad to say that TripAdvisor is doing its job because this is very much a 5 star rating place. It was a moody and foggy night so we drove the couple of miles from Hartington here and the warmth and welcoming of the pub was very much appreciated. We were not going to have starters but I had read a review that stated the Haggis and Black pudding starter was the best thing this reviewer had ever tasted...and I was naturally dubious and curious. After eating it, I can honestly say that although it wasn't the greatest thing I've ever eaten, it is pretty darned close and definitely the best starter I have ever had in a pub...absolutely delicious and I can highly recommend to anyone. As for the main meals, you certainly won't starve here...big portion of pie with loads of delicious chips and a mountain of veg was exactly what I needed on a cold winter's night. We both left stuffed and very happy. Staff were great too and can highly recommend this place to any passing traveller or local stayer.

We had 'sussed' out this pub on our visits to the cycle track at Parsley Hay and so this Sunday we were able to get a table for lunch after our cycle ride. Unfortunately for me, I had a toasted teacake for elevenses and it had filled me up, so I finished up only having homemade soup and roll. However, the OH tucked into the steak and stilton pie without hesitation. I did, of course have to taste this and it was absolutely delicious, as were the homemade chips and the choice of 4 vegetables. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and with the log burner lit, there was a nice ambiance about the place. Well recommended!

We stopped by at this lovely pub for dinner last night after browsing the menu we chose the steak and Stilton pie and the chicken and leeks. Both dinners were excellent, very tasty and massive portions for an excellent price. We are big eaters but we only managed 1 pudding between us after dinner. We will definitely be back to this place during our stay in the local area. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Nice little pub, very welcoming with a basic but relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive. We stayed for two nights in a double room with our dog, this place is super dog friendly and even had a blanket, bowl and dog treats in our hotel room - lovely touch. The room wasn't overly flashy, but then the price was incredibly reasonable so that's to be expected. Tea, coffee and hot choc selection was great, included yummy biscuits too which was a nice touch. We had lovely views out onto the fields and the sun coming through in the morning which was lovely. Really close to everything, they have parking on site, a key to enter and exit whenever you like even when they're closed which is useful if you had a pup! Breakfast was a little lacking I'd say, pastries were obviously bought on mass, possibly even defrosted, they were especially poor. Coffee appears to be instant too. Fresh fruit cut up, only one flavour of yogurt, good selection of cereals though. So, generally- not sure much expense was spared on breakfast. Otherwise though, nice little place, exactly what we needed as a base, would recommend.

Called for lunch Easter Saturday, very busy and great atmosphere. Served our sandwiches within 10 minutes, much faster than expected - well done the staff. Then I picked up my ham sandwich, the filling was excellent, very full. My friends prawn sandwich was the same, stunning amount of filling, as was the cheese and onion toasty. Also the price was very reasonable - Brilliant will be calling again soon.

Called for a meal on the Friday night , met with a very warm welcome The pub was lovely and cosy and as you can see from my picture the food was all freshly cooked and very tasty. The pub has 9 rooms I believe and is very dog friendly ( not tolerant like some establishments, but totally friendly) can’t wait to visit again when I’m sure we will stay the night , so we can enjoy our evening even more.

Six of us went for Sunday lunch to celebrate a special birthday. Telephoned the venue to enquire if booking was necessary and spoke to the new owner (from December 2016) who was very helpful and friendly, even suggesting that we visit beforehand to make sure the table was just right. During the phone conversation, the owner did mention that usually, they would prefer tables of four as a a maximum to ensure good quality food so just be aware if your party is bigger. I think that the new owner is perhaps fairly new to the hospitality business and I'm sure will perhaps review this as they settle in.

At last a pub restaurant that does an excellent Sunday Lunch. I know I harp on about sunday lunches but when you go out most weeks it is important to us. As this pub is under new management (about 3 weeks) and we hadn't tried it for years we gave it a try.

I visited these tearooms with my daughters on Friday 24th May. I have been to other tea shops in Bakewell, but Toscas is by far the best. We had afternoon tea for three of us, we sat outside in the court yard. The afternoon tea arrived and there was lots of lovely cake and sandwiches, beautifully presented, and our host friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, very civilised, we will defiantly be visiting again. In fact we will have a day out to bakewell just to visit Toscas .

We only live about 20 minutes and driven passed many times. We stopped on the way back from Buxton. They weren’t officially open however they were more than happy to serve us. It was awful weather outside but they had the log burner going so was gorgeous and warm. Cafe was all clean. Food delicious. Cakes scrumptious. The staff are so friendly. Car park is close and large. Definitely will be going again.
