The Joy in Midlothian

Firstly, this was a large order for a family of fussy eaters and children with food sensory issues. We ALL thought the food was very well cooked, very tasty and plenty of it. The quality of the meat and veg was great and everything was full of flavour. The packaging was great and all the food kept warm while travelling out of town to bring it home. They never forgot an item(which we have issues with most places we go) the service was friendly and helpful with the specific requests we had. We ordered online which was very easy to do and found the menu was extensive and definitely value for money. The food was ready when it said it would be and we also had 10% off with this being our first order which helped. All in all we will definitely be back and highly recommend this takeaway.

We order delivery occasionally as it’s the best local place for tofu and other vegan options. Although the menu doesn’t mark things vegan you can reasonably figure it out. Some of favourites are their salt and chilli dishes - spring rolls, tofu and chips. Really nice chilli onions running through these dishes. All the tofu dishes are the deep fried style except the ma po special which is standard firm tofu cubes. You get free prawn crackers so if you’re veggie or vegan remember to mention this when ordering so you don’t get them. Some of the dishes can have a kick with their small green chopped chillies throw them. Delivery is always on time or early. Food is hot and the quality of food is good.

I had a delivery from The Joy, it was a delicious meal, great delivery service as well. This is not my first meal from them, and it most certainly will not be the last. Great food full of flavour.

i order from here all the time never an issue as i usually collect it. Tonight i got a delivery and my food was cold. i got chips in my order which were stale cold, so disappointed as they have been thrown.

New Joy more like new poison! I had chicken chew Mein ( 4 pieces of chicken) hubby ordered special Thai curry. It was definitely special when he found a piece of metal in it!! Never again! Worst takeaway

Just had a delivery through just eat delivery was great but the food is terrible just ordered chicken mushroom it was hunt the chicken it had no flavour at all full of large pieces of onions hardly any chicken not nice . Also ordered chicken chow main dry tasteless again hunt the chicken , burnt chicken wings and horrible spring rolls. Tried here about 10 years ago and to be honest it still the same rubbish . I will give this a 1 /10. Go to Lee Garden its far superior.

Fabulous gluten free freshly cooked prawn, vegetable and noodle dishes - chef took care to give us what we asked for and my tummy was very happy and satisfied. All cooked to order while we waited on a busy Saturday night too! Thank you

Excellent menu, lovely meals, nice service. You can phone your order in and they give you a collection time, which is ideal as you arrive, pay the bill and collect your order. It is a long established business. We can highly recommend. Not far from Edinburgh City bypass - 6 or 7 minutes, and half way along Clerk Street in Loanhead.

All 3 chicken dishes were slimey and had a chewey texture and slightly pink. Tried cooking it at home. Salt and pepper dishes lacked the umph. Needed more chilly. Won't be back and if it keeps serving this it will soon close down again.

I found that the Lemon chicken was made not with chicken breast but made with a reconstituted chicken meat. The appearance of the cut meat demonstrated that this product was not chicken breast but rather a processed product. The consistency of the 'meat' was variable when chewed. I phoned to complain about this product. The manager said that he would challenge his supplier. I find it very difficulty to believe that the manager and cook were unable to recognise that this product was not natural chicken breast in its uncooked form. I asked for and was given my money back.

I have only being getting from the "new" joy for a couple of weeks. My sister told me it had changed. The food was great and I would recommend. Can be quite busy, just be patient as the food is great.

First time ordering here as local closed. Arrived in very good time. Good price and really tasty food. We're definitely ordering again and would recommend!

It's been in loanhead since 1982. Great food and service. Prices are competitive with a great selection

Auf der Suche nach einem China Take-away in Loanhead sind wir im Joy gelandet. Offensichtlich früher mal ein Restaurant, jetzt nur noch Take-away. Wir entschieden uns für Crispy Duck (Entenfleisch zum Einrollen in Pfannkuchen mit Gurken und Hoi-Sin Soße). Obwohl keine anderen Kunden da waren, dauerte die Zubereitung sehr lange. Das ist nicht schlimm, aber was wir nach der Wartezeit erhielten, war es nicht wert: Ein Viertel Ente mit Knochen, obwohl bei diesem Gericht sonst immer das reine Fleisch gereicht wird. Dazu noch alt, zäh und kalt, Es schmeckte ekelig nach altem Fett. Die Pfannkuchen eingeschweißt in einer Plastik-Tüte und klebrig. Die Soße zumindest nicht verdorben ... Eine enttäuschende Erfahrung, nachdem wir dieses Gericht schon oft in hervorragender Qualität anderswo gegessen haben. Dort jedoch nie wieder!
