Tea on the Quay ha reemplazado al JR.

What a lovely friendly place to sit and eat well cooked and well presented food. You can watch the people play on the water and enjoy the fresh fruit that decorates your dish. We thought it was maybe a little expensive but it was so good that we forgot that and will be going back for more.

Took a friend here on Monday only to be told they were not serving food as they were full inside. We were sitting outside. What's the point of outside seating if you can't cope with everyone's orders! Come on JR it's August, school holidays and one of your busiest times.....get your act together and get a bit more cheap labour, sorry staff!

Had a great experience here on a scorching Sunday afternoon looking for shade (but atmosphere) whilst on holiday with the dog. We sat under a parasol amongst the flowers, and found it a great place to sit on the quay whilst watching the world go by. The staff were very people- and dog-friendly, and we loved the variety of fruit as a side salad to our snacks. The ice-creams were very popular (the biggest selection I have ever seen) as there was a continuous stream of people queuing for them. A pity we live a long way away, but would recommend to future customers.

Lovely setting by the Exeter Quays, jolly coloured seating under parasols made it a very pleasant atmosphere, and the staff were lovely. Seating inside and out. Loo is shared, might be too narrow for a wide wheelchair, but clean and tidy and fit for purpose. We had a prawn sandwich, which was nearly £9 but it was a really delicious plateful, well worth it, also full of salad and fruit, crisps and coleslaw, a very good meal and perfect on a sunny day, very refreshing. We look forward to going again very soon. There is some building work going on at the Quays, which can be a bit disruptive, but we don’t mind, that’s when cafes need your custom the most.

The food was not up to expectations especially the three cheese salad with the cheese showing some signs of "aging" rather than "maturing". The menu seemed to indicate bBrie but Edam was on the plate. The children's milkshake was nothing of the sort - more like a glass of milk with a Nesquick type mixture added.I have to say the cup of tea was exceptionally good and perhaps we should have ordered the scones that we had on our last visit.

Been here a number of times, but it never improves. Coffee is filter, which is not explained when ordering, so you ask for a latte, which looks nothing like it should. Becuase of its location, it is always busy, if i were to have a drink there, go for the Tea as you cant go wrong. Food is of average standard. Don't go and look at the kitchen as it will freak you out, although their rating is acceptable. Just really old fashioned, and staff that are too young, and dont really care.

We went to the Jolly Roger with friends at 1.30pm. (Used to be Rogers tea room) Unfortunately the cafe had not been kept in the pristine condition and although there were lots of staff we waited over an hour for a toasted tea cake & a bowl of soup. Our friends were served their cream tea quickly but did not have China or cutlery! We did prompt our waitress re our friends finishing their tea & us still waiting (over an hour!) Eventually left at 2.40pm as needed to leave Exeter at 3pm & there was still no sign of our food!

We have not been to this tea rooms for some time but during a trip to the quay a group of 4 of us decided we go as we had always had a good experience in the past. However, on this occasion we were left waiting for at least 30 minutes for our food and that appeared to arrive only after querying the time it was taking. When it came however, 3 of the 4 orders were fine and up to the old excellent standard, the other(dropped scones) was not very good and not value for money. So on the whole the food was okay apart from one meal but the was very poor. Would we go there again? Probably not as it was a bitter disappointment from what we were used to.

Stopped here for Lunch on August Bank Holiday Monday. Ordered food having been told that there was a half hour wait on food orders. Twenty minutes or so later my jacket potato arrived. We were told my wife's order of soup would along shortly. Nearly twenty minutes later, me having nearly finished my meal, the soup arrived - following two requests to the staff. The soup was advertised to be Leek and Potato. What arrived was mainly Red Pepper. The staff were rather dismissive of the issue, and on paying there was even confusion as to which table 5 I was on!?!?!

We have just experienced the bad service at the Jolly Roger when the place was at best only half full on a Sunday lunch time. We placed our order of tea for 4and 4 meals from the 'Specials' board - Pork & egg pie with salad & cold slaw (x3) and brie & bacon open sandwich with salad & cold slaw. After about 5 minutes the waitress, who was always very polite, said there was a 35min wait for food. We accepted this and enjoyed the tea. After about 20mins, a second waitress said the food was on the way. We asked after the food at around 50 mins and was assured it was coming. Asking why there was such a delay, the waitress said there was only one chief. Our order of uncooked food finally arrived after 1hr & 5mins. The Quantity of food was sparse for the money. When we finished I asked to speak to the manager, who was not around but the kitchen area was being run by around 6 young staff. After explaining our experience, I agreed to pay 50% of the cost due to the inconvenience we had suffered. Never to go back! TOP TIP: Don't go there unless you want to waste a couple of hours!

Visited the Jolly Rodger with eager anticipation on bank holiday Monday after a lovely visit to the cafe a number of years ago. We sat down outside and had our order taken by a quiet but very polite waiter. Drinks arrived and we sat back and enjoyed the afternoon sun, well we tried to enjoy the afternoon sun but the waiting staff had other ideas and started closing down the outside of the cafe! I understand cleaning tables and collecting the flower pots off empty tables but our drinks hadn't even arrived and the sugar had been cleared away?! We felt very awkward but also very uncomfortable by the constant bullying of one member of staff. The young waiter that had taken our drinks order and the ONLY member of staff that paid us any attention at all, the lady in charge (manager I persummed, gingerish hair?) treated the young man like something on her shoe, it was absolutely awful to watch. Such a shame as this was such a gem in the past. The manager was very vocal in her concerns of the new development happening on the quay affecting her trade (yes I did over hear as you very loudly talked about it and then accused the young waiter of listening into your conversation?!) well I'm afraid to say you're doing that all by yourself! Please treat your staff with some dignity, respect and care.

Our drinks arrived and we sat and chatted in our group, only to be disturbed by lady in charge shouting over us telling member of staff off for not doing job right. This carried on with other jobs and discussing it with other members of staff . We felt this very wrong and not how you treat your staff. We felt embarrassed and felt for the staff member who was being picked on , if you have problems with your staff members there is a time and a place to do this not in front of your customer's.

I have been here in the distant past, mainly when it was a popular destination with some Japanese friends who loved the traditional afternoon tea experience, but this was my first recent visit. My first impression was how little it had changed, even the pingy menus suspended from the ceiling were still there. I came here for breakfast. All I can say is that it was ok. The sausage was not very nice, tasted cheap and not very meaty, and the bacon was pretty fatty but the rest of it was fine. I have had much better in Exeter though. This was our first time at Exeter Quay, and it is lovely. We had two hours to spare from when the coach dropped us off before the boat to go on the Canal to Exmouth, so decided to have a meal. There are plenty of places to choose from but this looked a very interesting place. The first thing you encounter which was strange were the hanging menus, it is good you can have a look before sitting at a table, but it did look funny and one little boy loved pulling the one near his table to see if fly up in the air. We both had the full breakfast, it is like a three course meal on one plate. Salad, bacon, eggs, toast, mushrooms, sausage, and then fruit. Have never come across this before, but the downside was we missed our baked beans, lol. We also had a basket of toast with butter and marmalade, which filled us up for the rest of the day. One little thing which was confusing, was you could pay when you ordered, or when you left. We paid when we ordered, but when we had left were chased after by the very girl we had paid to tell us we hadn't. This did upset us, and would recommend they issue receipts, or only have pay with order, or at the end to save any confusion, and embarrassment.

Lovely fresh made scones and a really original styled place. I go there often, that's how good it is. Cakes are well worth trying too.

Dropped in for a cream tea - charming staff as ever with beautiful fresh scones and wonderful apple and ginger jam. Pot of coffee a little weak but such a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

We have gone to The Jolly Roger for years and have always loved the friendly, welcome to people and their dogs. Five of us went for brunch on 8 May and left feeling that it could be at risk of losing it's sparkle. My favourite was always a bacon and egg muffin but muffins no longer available. The doorstep slices of bread were difficult to eat and the bacon was thick and greasy - not at all crispy. The fruit and salad garnish wasn't the freshest. Overall it feels like the place needs a bit of a makeover and good clean - table was sticky. A de-clutter throughout and a face lift for the toilets would also help. Just hope some love and care is given to this lovely cafe to get it back up to where it should be.

Quirky decor and attractive waterside setting. Staff friendly and welcoming. My friend and I ordered sarnies and tea. The sarnies were bursting with filling and there was coleslaw and bits of fruit too. The tea (as I discovered just in time) was genuine leaf, with a cute teapot-shaped strainer. Other food options looked great too. Pity I'm not a local!

Such a lovely day in Exeter and mid way on our bike ride we called in for elevenses.....or tea and cake if you prefer! Lovely big pot of tea for two made with real leaves and two nice slices of cake. Sat outside and pondered the view whilst quenching our thirsts with a pot of tea big enough for four. Nice place and some polite service as well.

We always head for the Jolly Roger when we visit Exeter. The atmosphere is great. The decor brilliant. Very friendly staff. Always clean. Fabulous coffee and cake. Toast came with 3 types of jam and marmalade. Huge pot of tea. Even our dog was given a blanket by the fire and treats. Well worth a visit.

Walked down to the quay on a cold but sunny day needing food! Sat outside and had a wonderful sandwich, filled to the brim and served with a fruit and savoury salad with coleslaw and crisps. Waitress also brought out doggie treats for our Rough Collie, Would have been welcome to sit inside with the dog but preferred the fresh air, Tea room was nearly full and can see why.

Decor and location are great! Ordered a latte and a chocolate cake. Latte tasted strange, choc cake pretty average and the table was sticky and the place generally didnt look so clean. Was empty when we went in, but quickly filled up with others.

A great place for tea and cake or a tasty lunch. Home made cakes and scones to drool over. An interesting selection of teas, all loose leaf, served in a variety of interesting tea pots. Good value, family atmosphere.

Been going to The Jolly Roger Tea Rooms for years. Called again this week and had to wait ages just for a cup of tea and slice of cake. There were only two others in the tearoom. Why such a delay is anybody's guess. Never used to be like this. Something is not quite the same, the atmosphere has changed and the place always used to be buzzing, not anymore.

I visited the Jolly Rodger recently with a friend. The atmosphere was lovely even though it was quite quiet, although I did think some background music could have helped 'fill' the room a little. My only criticism was the waiting times, the waitresses were lovely and friendly but we waited longer then was comfortable to be served and then had a long wait for our order, despite it just being two hot chocolates. This would not stop me visiting again, however I just hope next time the service is a little better. I would HIGHLY recommend the hot chocolate- YUM

We visited on a busy Sunday lunchtime. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance. My sandwich served with salad and crisps was very good, fresh bread and nice salad which included fruit. My wife chose the crumpets with cheese and chutney which was equally enjoyable. Good portions and pleasant service. The only downside was the toilets inside the restaurant, the gents had a very loose seat and needed a jolly good clean, the floor was very wet and it was an unpleasant experience. On busy days management need to arrange regular servicing, then you may get 5 stars !

Visited the Jolly Roger with 2 children. The service was very quick. We all had sandwiches which were well made and enjoyed. But the milk shake was poor (tasteless) and was left. Having visited these tea rooms several times over the years, I was disappointed. The decor seems shabby now (rather than shabby chic) and everything feels a little grubby although I am sure that in reality it is not. This general impression was assisted by the fact that cleaning equipment (used duster and polishes etc) had been left on the dresser adjacent to our table. I personally don't like to see so much clutter on the shelves around the cafe either. It is a shame as these used to be really nice tea rooms. Having a good declutter would help.

Tiny little tearooms tucked away on the quey at Exeter.Look past the decour and furniture it does look tired. The staff were both polite and very helpful. We had a cream tea and it was spot on.What made it stand out was the fact that you are given 3 differant jams to choose from.

Popped in for breakfast and although the prices seemed a little steep, they seem typical for the Quay area when compared with other establishments. The serving staff were really nice and welcoming although the boss/manageress came across as being a bit bossy as she fussed around telling the others what to do. The breakfast I had (poached eggs and bacon on toast) was excellent and although it seemed strange to see salad & fruit listed on the menu as accompaniments, they were an excellent addition making the meal a lovely experience. Recommended.
