Had amazing haddock and chips for taking to beach 10 mins away at huttoft.

We recently had the pleasure of fish and chips at the Jolly Friar in Alford, and what a trip down memory lane it was! The fish and chips were so crisp, you could hear the crunch over the wireless. The fish was flakier than the ration book promises, and the chips—well, they were the perfect shade of golden brown, just like a freshly pressed ARP warden's uniform. Now, let's talk about the spam fritters. It's not every day you come across a delicacy that reminds you of both the best and worst of the Blitz. These little beauties took me right back to the days when spam was king, and tinned peaches were a luxury! The fritters were fried to perfection, with just the right amount of grease to make you feel like you're doing your bit for the war effort. Just be sure to bring a healthy appetite and a sense of humour, because after a plate of their fish and chips, you'll be more stuffed than an evacuee's suitcase.

Not had fish n chips for ages. Virtually gave up tbh. Was always left wanting. Not so here. Superb. No oil present. Crunchy batter fish superb.

Although fish and other food items are OK, (not brilliant), the chips let this shop down as they contain bits of chips with hardened skins and hardened small cuts with sharp points, (inedible). Must be a way of cutting chips better than this and preserving without getting too stale. Forming a queue in the rain is not much fun.

I popped in on the off chance as i was staying in the area. Another English town thats sadly become run down, i was expecting much. But not only were the fish and chips the best ive ever had (and ive eaten loads in my life!), the staff were humorous and let me join in like i was a local. They cheered me up no end! The place is run efficiently, safely and hygenically. Seriously, im tempted to drive from suffolk to lincoln regularly just to go here!

brilliants chips show always nice and clean. all the worker are respectful and really nice and look after me. i can tell they change the oil often aswel. and i also like the way they serve you they ask if you need anything cooking so they have it ready for you. and really like the way they serve fresh food i don't mind waiting for it.i really do recomend

Fantastic food, excellent service, definitely worth a visit in the village of Alford, about a 15 minute drive from Chapel St Leonards. Worth the drive the best fish and chips we've had all week. Excellent value for money and lovely staff. Our go to chippy now when visiting the area.

Fancied a chippy tea to take back to the caravan one evening and this was the nearest one. Very happy with the food and the staff were very friendly, only down side was the mini fish really was really quite small. Would definitely visit again though 👍

We have found a lovely chippy in alford, I like it that they fry your fish when you require it, every time I've be there the food has been nicely cooked,I tried a Yorkshire fish cake if you go there try one 👍, the staff are really helpful and pleasent, would diffently recommend to others.we have been coming here now for 2 years lovely staff food excellent as normal, well worth checking it out. 👌we're in our 3rd year coming here now What more can I say, still as good as when we first stepped through the door.A brand new year there is always a friendly greeting and a chatter to there customers which is nice. I'm really a cod fan but now I've got the taste of having gravy too only the once over Christmas but differently will have again. Really nice chippy the best for me and hubby. 👌 looking forward to another excellent year at our favourite chippy. Even through the prices have gone up a little the quality and quantity are still the same. Lovely.

Great nosh small on portion sizes sometimes

Great food enjoyed every meal ive had from there. Friendly staff they go out of there way to please you. Always ask for a box and now they know me dont have to ask they just put in box. Can tell they change the oil frequently fresh and tasty food. While im in alford working will be there nearly every day

It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area

Called in for a fish cake butty for lunch cost £6.20 for 2 and they were the worst I have ever eaten. Extremely small and thin slices of potato with next to no fish in the middle. They looked as if they had been recooked. They kept salt and vinegar behind counter so you couldn't put your own on had to have what they gave you. Definitely won't be back

Had lovely food again from here absolutely amazing food and amazing staff too hubby loves the mini fish and chips and I had battered sausage with peas for a change but all the food is amazing well done ladies once again and thanks for the batter always a pleasure

I work with the NHS and our team visit alford to do vaccinations. I'd highly recommend this chip shop. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the fish is extremely fresh and the portion size is very generous. Thoroughly recommend The Jolly Friar. *****

Nice staff ,had tea from here a few times very nice food ,nice tasting curry sauce,chips to die for and it's not bad on the pocket.

I always stop here on the way home from visiting the coast. Excellent food. The fish is fresh and tasty and the batter crunchy. Chips are excellent too.

Updated again Great fish tasted amazing So we revisited and this time was so much better and the curry sauce is beautiful Staff gentleman on frier we had a great chat friendly and knowledgeable esp about local area Lady serving on till again was polite and kind (previous review-Worse I've had so far Been charged £5.20 chip and cheese cold chip that didn't even melt the cheese) I think it was just an off day which at some point in time we all have

First time bought fish and chips from The Jolly Friar. Read some good reviews. So glad we bought our supper. Fish was tasty and chips cooked just right. Really scrumpy.

Just moved to the area and this was the first fish and chip shop tried. No need to try any others, this will be our go to chippee. Fish perfectly cooked with crisp batter, no soggy bits, totally delicious all round.

We had a very long wait as everything is cooked fresh to order but you'd think with it being Friday evening they'd have some food ready to go. Especially given how it's always busy on a Friday. That being said the fish and chips were delicious but the wait was too long.

We received amazing service!! Our team was able to pre-order to collect delicious food for a lunch time treat, and will certainly do so again ☺

Fish was delicious but chips were sort of very oily and soggy. Could be the time of the year for spuds but bit disappointed. Chap was very welcoming but lady looked as though she didn't want to be there.

What a fabulous place for fish and chips! We're on holiday in Lincolnshire from London, & drove 14 miles to our favourite fish and chip shop. Perfectly cooked cod & haddock. Excellent chips, & superb portion size. Customer service is also excellent! You can tell we are fans! This is our favourite place for fish & chips. Excellent value for money. Try it- worth driving to from London!

Many thanks for the only peace and quiet I had last Thursday when visited by my 3 grandsons as they enjoyed eating their sausage/fish and chips. Not a single chip remained! Delicious, as always, and well worth the money.

Can't say I was overly impressed the fish was tasteless, the batter was falling off , hardly got any chips the peas and curry sauce were like water won't be hurrying back anytime soon I'm afraid I'll stick to Waldo's .

Fish & chip shop near Alford Market Place where there is a car park or a large one across the road. Good selection of fish, pies etc. Value for money. Would recommend

Passing through on a Friday evening en route to the coast. We phoned ahead as it was fast approaching closing time. Our food was almost ready as we arrived. Service was very efficient and the proprietors very friendly. One of our group said "it was the best fish I've had in ages". We'll certainly be returning when next in need of a good fish and chip supper.

You dont get 5 star if not the very best ! This is the "best chip shop i have ever been to consistently" ! Staff are great as well ! If could give it 6 star i would !!

I don't live locally to this chip shop, but always stop by for fish and chips if I am in the area or passing. I have never been disappointed by the quality and freshness of the food. I usually get fish and chips, but have had some other items from the menu which have been to a similar quality. The prices are very reasonable and the service is quick. Totally recommend this chippie if you get a chance to visit.

We visit the area 4/5 a year. This Christmas we stayed in a glamping pod at a local fruit farm. We always call in to the Jolly Friar at least once. The food is always hot and freshly cooked. You can preorder by phone and they now accept debit card which makes things far easier. If there is one thing we hate it's chip shops that cook mountains of food on the off chance someone comes in to buy. The Jolly Friar is NOT one of those establishments. Give me a 5/10 minute wait anytime.

We have been living in Alford for two months now. The Jolly Friar is just what you would want from your local chippe. Great fish and chip, friendly service and simply the best onion rings (and cheapest). My step daughter and I have always tried the onion rings from UK to Europe and USA to Africa and these are the best.

Very welcoming and friendly employees. The brilliant customer service goes hand in hand with great quality food. Been a regular customer for a number of years and it only seems to get better and better. Cannot reccomend enough!!

Fabulous chip shop, popped in after a day at the beach and they were still open. Cooked all our order fresh as it was nearly closing time. Good sized portions, the fish was tasty, golden and a perfect size to fill you right up. Pineapple fritter was a good size too. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Reasonably priced, 4 of us ate with drinks for £20. Car park right next door is handy too.

Excellent fish ( cod) n chips. Very hot cooked while I waited. Happy friendly staff and easy nearby parking Highly reccomended. There was a 1940s weekend on in the town and the jolly frier had SPAM fritters on the menu. Food of the gods, even though i used to refer to them at school in the 1960s as " Dogs tongues in batter ". Beautiful!

My boys had a takeaway there last night. Kebab and chips. Now they like their food but the chips were swimming in too much ketchup so had to sling them. ( there words not mine)

Wonderful new potatoes cooked fresh, on 19 July at 10 past 8. They close at 8-30. Two lovely ladies behind the counter. Laughed and joked with us and couldn't do enough to help. Very pleasant. Good price too. Shame we won't be going there again as live 75 miles away and they would be cold by the time we go home.🤗 If out that way in Alfred again we would make an effort to call in again. Thank you, ladies.

The jolly friar was easy to access and the parking is good. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food was well cooked and Decent amounts I'm never a fan of new potatoes so the chips were a bit too soggy for my liking but I'm sure it might suit others. Over all a good chippy to call at coming back from the coast.
