The Joker in Islington

Reserved a few tables downstairs for 30 people on my birthday and had such a amazing night! Lovely staff, great atmosphere and fun music till late. And free prosecco on arrival, couldn't fault this place!

We were let down by another pub when the roof collapsed the night before we had 60 friends and relatives travelling to London for our engagement drinks and Ash (+ his wonderful team) completely saved us at the last minute! The room is a great size for a party with its own bar, sound system and right next to the loos so everything you need. They arranged welcome drinks for us and even kept coming to top up my glass whilst I was speaking to guests. We could decorate however we wanted and they were fine for us to make the room our own. We had such an amazing night and want to thank the team for being so fantastic. We have been saying that it almost worked out for the best that the other room fell through (literally!).Thanks guys!

Pedimos 'aperitivos' para ser servidos por la tarde y el estándar era mucho mejor de lo que esperábamos (alitas de pollo, rollitos de primavera, falafel, mini hamburguesas, etc.). Pudimos usar su sistema de sonido y micrófono y simplemente usamos nuestra propia lista de reproducción desde un iPhone. ¡Nos adornamos de antemano, pero Alex estaba más que feliz de ayudarnos a proporcionar bolígrafos, blueTac, etc. que habíamos olvidado! Un poco rústico, así que quizás no sea para ti si quieres un aspecto más pulido, ¡pero se adapta perfectamente a nuestro estilo y necesidades! Definitivamente lo recomendaría para reuniones de equipo y fiestas de cumpleaños.

Had a great time celebrating my birthday in the upstairs function room. Good space for the amount of people that made it (~50). Helpful, obliging staff and a great sound system. Would definitely do it again.

We hired upstairs for a function. Very polite and helpful staff, however we’d paid for a private bartender who arrived late. We’d requested drinks on arrival but they had been laid out ready upstairs and we were kept downstairs for all our party to arrive so most guests started ordering drinks etc whilst we waited. It would have been better to either have the drinks downstairs if they weren’t ready for us upstairs or direct everyone upstairs in their parties on arrival. The whole experience was great but the attention to detail wasn’t quite there. Paying for a bartender to arrive late was poor service, even though she was lovely. There was no discussion to stay on after and have another drink, as soon as our event finished everyone was happy to leave unfortunately.

A great pub. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Great choice of beers! We ate a few of the tasters too which were really tasty. Good portions too. Worth popping in if looking for a beer and a snack!

Pretty average pub, nothing overly spectacular, might rate it a little higher if I ever go back as I see they different things on each night like quiz night, 241 gin on Thursday.

I really enjoyed the blues concert on Wednesday evening. The bartenders are polite and the beer is not to expensive. There was a possibility to dance which was a bonus. The pub is clean and has a nice atmosphere.

I danced the night away at this bar last weekend. They serve an excellent variety of drinks. The vibe in the bar is really friendly and welcoming. Music for all tastes! A fab night out.

Estaban aquí para una fiesta y tenía la habitación de arriba. Alrededor de 50 personas, ideal para y tiene su propia zona de bar, aunque la mayor variedad de cervezas está abajo. Algunos excelentes artesanías cervezas de oferta, aunque estaban un poco nublado, pero aún así sabía muy bien. La comida para la fiesta fue excelente, un poco diferente de los bocadillos típicos en oferta.

No recuerdo la última vez que tuvimos un evento en un lugar y me sentí tan cómodo como si estuviera celebrando con amigos en mi propia casa. Este es un establecimiento que le recuerda que debe ser una noche llena de diversión y sin preocupaciones, carente de la mala actitud y downbeat que hemos vibraciones vienen tan acostumbrados a salir por las noches!

Went there for a catchup with my friend on a Saturday afternoon. The place is spacious and the staff excellent. Nice beer selection and loved the chicken burger. I would definitely come back when in the area.

El personal es siempre muy amable y servicial. La comida es buena y el precio de las bebidas es razonable. Me alegra ver que han ampliado la lista de cócteles. Altamente recomendado.

Estupenda habitación privada para mi 30. El bar privado con el personal del bar era excelente y el espacio era perfecto para el 40 o así que la gente que teníamos. Muy muy recomendado. We had a x12 guest booking at the Joker. I made a request for a specific area of the pub, but upon arrival got moved because of a larger booking taking prominence. There wasn’t any space left around the pub, so an impromptu make-shift table was made, smack bang in the entrance gangway. Having said this, we didn’t mind and understood the seasonal demand for bookings.

Gaz and his team put on a great party for us yesterday lunchtime. Fab food, fab service and super friendly team kicked Christmas off nicely.

Alquilé la habitación privada en el Joker para celebrar mi cumpleaños y tuve una excelente experiencia. La habitación estaba muy bien presentada, y el personal de la noche era particularmente servicial con las diferentes peticiones que tuvimos. Tener un bar separado en la habitación privada realza la experiencia más. Desde el punto de hacer la reserva, me pareció que la dirección era receptivo a cualquier pregunta que tenía y se esforzaba para que la velada sea un éxito.

all my mates used this pub when we at uni and loved it, proper pub. we had some great nights in here and came back a couple of weeks ago to find it had completely changed. the management genuinely looked down his nose at my mates and me and they seemed more interested in the trendies and chatting up the women than actually doing their job. gutterpointed.

We met friends here for a quiet Saturday afternoon drink. Very pleasant with a good selection of beers and friendly staff.

This is the sponsored bar for the netball league in which I play. We get a reasonable discount on drinks through the league which is the primary reason we go to the pub. Inside is very gloomy but the rest of the team think that as far as pubs go this is a good pub. If you are hungry, the sweet potato chips are a good option!

Service was friendly, decent range of beers on tap with easy to find prices and menu, cool interior, reasonably priced.

I hired the room upstairs for a welcome home party for my sister and it was fantastic. About 40 people turned up, which was the perfect number (although room could hold more). The staff were really accommodating - and provided decks free of charge so we could have our own music/DJ all night. They answered all my questions regarding setting up, pre-ordering food/drinks and deposit really quickly and helped me set up the roomI would highly recommend.

I booked the upstairs room to host my 30th birthday party this weekend and had a fab time so would definitely recommend the place. I paid a £200 deposit (which I got back on the night) and had about 40-45 guests - perfect for the size of the space. It's quite a quirky room, which looked great with all the candles lit and pictures hanging on the wall. I could play my own music, from my ipad, which is a nice touch... although we did ask to turn it up a few times as everyone was talking over it! You get your own bar and have to spend a minimum of £750 which is easily reachable for the amount of people I had - this amount is pretty low compared to other places in the area. We also got our own loos so it felt quite private. Gaz, the manager, was always very friendly and helpful when I had any questions and I could have decorated the space if I'd wanted to. We didn't have any food but I hear it's good so I may well be back!

Pretentious pub with poor service.Area has plenty of pubs, some literally 30 seconds from here doing everything better.

We booked this venue for our wedding reception (the upstairs room and two bay seats downstairs) So far, so good. The decor of the pub is very nice, little additions were made but the character of the room was enough for us. However, there were some glaring negatives;• The staff were ambivalent at best. Bar men frequently disappeared, simple requests were routinely ignored and when dealing with them as a whole it was like getting blood from a particularly stubborn stone.• The said bay seating was not in fact reserved for us and our party and was double booked for another party at a later time, despite promises they would be ours for the duration.• The food, which was tasty, was delivered in a manner which suggested the staff were surprised by the fact they had a functioning kitchen. They seemed unaware that people would like all the food at once rather than a trickle of burgers followed 20 minutes later by some fries. I ended up playing waiter and taking the food from downstairs to the function room upstairs myself to avoid cold cod.• Upon arrival, I was reminded that I had to square the bill and was reminded on 3 further separate occasions despite the fact it was my wedding day.• Generally speaking, I got the impression we were a thorn in the side of the pub and it's staff, despite healthy planning and communication prior to the event. Once the money was taken, we were no longer attended too.Luckily, this did not ruin our wedding reception as we have particularly good friends who all chipped in to make the day a success. However, if I were to plan the function again, I would rather leave it to fate than ask the staff at this venue even the simplest of favours.

We held our work summer party in the private room upstairs with 15 people for dinner and more joining for drinks. The food was really great, we had our own bar and bartender all evening and were able to play our own music, what more could you want?The staff were all really friendly and very helpful when booking etc. They don't charge you a colossal booking fee either which is refreshing! Would definitely recommend

I had a birthday here with a big group of people. Had a great night - drinks are a good price, bar staff friendly and always served quickly. I didn't eat this time but have done before and it's really good!

I booked the upstairs function room for a group birthday and it was excellent. Around 60 people attended and we had our own bar with two bar staff so we didn't have to wait long to get served.Everyone at the Joker is very friendly and accommodating. I will continue to go there for drinks/dinner and would highly recommend to others.

We used the private upstairs space for drinks an a bite to eat after having completed The Crystal Maze around the corner. It was the only pub in the area which let us reserve an area starting later in the evening, the team were very accommodating to our requirements as well.The food and service were great throughout.

We hired the upstairs room of this newly-redecorated gastropub for a private party of approx 40 people. It's spacious and cool up there and you get a private bar so you don't have to battle with the masses downstairs. We found the staff exceptionally friendly and generally had an awesome time. The late opening (til 3am) also a massive bonus. Would highly recommend.

Great staff. The beer and fish and chips were delicious. The music, though a bit loud, was a great mix of funk, soul, indie, and folk. Really enjoyed my visit.

I had my 30th Birthday party in the main bar here and I'm so glad I did. The staff were really helpful - both in planning and on the night as well. The party menu is very generous and delicious (the arancini balls were v popular) and you can select songs for them to play on the night. 3am closing time was really useful as well as it meant the night didn't end too early. They have a private room for hire as well if you don't want your booking in the main bar.

I had my 30th Birthday party in the upstairs room for around 40 people. The venue looked beautiful, the kitchen provided tasty bespoke food platters and the service was great - one of the bar staff even found my lost camera. I would definitely recommend this place for a private hire venue!

I booked the upstairs room for a birthday party of about 50 people. It's an ideal venue - big enough to have space for dancing as well some tables and sofas out and not feel cramped but not too big - and good value compared with other venues I looked at. With the lights down and candles out it has a really cosy atmosphere. It's also a great location, Angel tube is a few minutes walk away and Kings Cross station is near which was great as we had people coming from outside London. The manager Gaz and his staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The food I ordered from the buffet menu was prompt and went down really well with the guests. I would definitely recommend this place.

We visited the Joker to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday. We were looking for a nice venue that was suitable for family and friends and the Joker was perfect. They have a lovely private room upstairs, this was unfortunately fully booked but staff were more than accommodating in helping us book a large area downstairs. Great food, reasonably priced drinks and polite and friendly staff made for a great evening, we'll definitely be returning.

Went to the Joker for a small reunion / get-together for drinks and food. The venue is tucked away in a small side street near Angel station. The decor is cosy, warm and welcoming. A lively atmosphere but not too loud - perfect for catching up with friends. Good selection of drinks and a few interesting beers on tap. Food was delicious. We tried the meat sharing platter and others had the veggie burger. Reviews were good though the fries could have done with a tad more salt.Overall I loved it and would gladly book a table there again on my next visit to London!

Had a fantastic night at the Joker private function room celebrating my birthday,lovely cosy venue with own toilets a nice bar,tasty buffet and good sound system. Looking for somewhere to have a quick munch and a boozy Christmas lunch! Burgers are insanely good! Beer not bad either!

Lively spot at the end of Chapel Market. Perhaps not the best thought out choice of venue for our cricket team's end of season drinks ( at Halloween !! ), but clearly very popular with a younger crowd and management had done a good job of promoting the Halloween theme.Excellent burger, chips and salad garnish for £ 10.

The pub is well located with friendly staff and good atmosphere. We chatted with the bar staff who enjoyed talking with us and gave tips on what to see in London. I will come again.

Discovered this gem on an evening's walk, while with family. A lovely welcoming pub with a kitchen by the bar. Long tables with comfy chairs for drinking or eating.I had chicken fajitas, and my husband had a cheese burger, both freshly made & wonderful.There are tables out front for smokers Loos are downstairs.

A jewel in London can't be missed. They prebook tables for you so you can go with a bunch of friends. Staff are very polite and friendly. Free Wifi available.. Prosecco rosé a good choice.

A few colleagues headed down after work on a Thursday to avoid the crowded pubs. Good ale and beer selection. Decor was funky and the burgers were amongst the best in London. This this will be very popular when word spreads

The food they serve there is exceptional, however the pricing of the drinks is going through the roof. There is no encouragement for the passing driver who has to drink soft drinks. They have hiked their prices above inflationary rates. I know of public houses where beer costs less than half the price of a soft drink served there.I doubt I will ever return as it is too expensive all down to greed by the owners
