We had a lovely meal with the family here at John Gilbert, whilst on our stay at the nearby Novotel. Great food, great service and good value for money, especially the steaks we had! Nothing was too much trouble for our server Paige.

I went for lunch with a friend, and I was really impressed. The food was tasty, and well presented. The people who served us were friendly, and welcoming. A nice little spot I'm sure I'll return to in the future

Very quiet when we went (7pm on a Monday) but staff really nice, polite and attentive. Food delicious and came out quickly. Katsu burgers and kids fish and chips. 🤤

My parents went there for lunch at the start of last week so it might have been the back end of July and they told me that they were not happy with their food they told one of the workers that work there and they just didn't seem interested I feel like that's very bad customer service it's like they went there and they said to me in the food were very small portions prices have gone up but smaller portions and the food wasn't that good they went there because I recommended it so when they come back and told me how bad it was I was not happy maybe they had enough day maybe the worker was having a bad day but not happy with the service

We stopped in here on our way back from RHS Bridgewater gardens. Had a drink and some small plate tapas. Service was fast and friendly. The food was good and the pub was clean (although the menus were a bit tatty). It’s a pleasant, modern place and I’d visit again.

Visited here for the first time to try the pub and food. My mother had a gluten free meal and myself had food. My mother enjoyed hers but unfortunately later had come home and been violently sick with all the food, be wary to visit here for gluten free foods. Disappointed and expensive drinks for what it is

All round great visit, excellent service from bar staff. Food was nice also. Smaller plates of grub as well which is ideal as I am a body builder

Food can be a little overpriced and drinks can be too, the bathroom is rather nice however.

Cannot fault the John Gilbert. After speaking to Sarah we put all arrangments in place for mums funeral buffet. Her care and attention together with private area for our guests was just right. The food was excellent . The pub itself including toilets are spotless. Area outside to sit and enjoy . We have used this pub often as its central location for motorway access is great for our visiting family. Also visiting family from USA stay near by when in Manchester so we use the John Gilbert as our meet up place. This is just the right place and location for us.

First time had a meal and drinks very slow service and beer was flat waste of time and money

Fantastic service, lovely food and well run family pub. I regularly visit with my two young children, the staff always go out of their way to make us welcome. We have attended the family fun days at Easter, Christmas and Halloween and the land lady always puts so much effort into putting activities on and fun things for the kids to enjoy!

My partner and I have just returned from an excellent visit to this pub. We were staying nearby and needed a meal that was not too heavy. We shared 5 small plates and a bottle of wine. It was all very good. The staff were great. It was just what we wanted.

Had a poor experience when going for lunch with my boyfriend today. Working in hospitality ourselves, we know that people can have bad days however, the blonde lady behind the bar had a bad attitude towards us from the get go. We took a seat after a lovely greeting from a lady with red hair (who we think is a manager) and chose our food. I went up to order and the blonde lady wouldn’t let me put a word in. I asked about having no mayo on the BLT and she said it was already mixed in which is fair enough. I tried to find something else I’d want off the menu as I told her I was quite a picky eater and she kept firing different dishes at me as if she were rushing me to make a decision (bare in mind there was no queue at the bar and the pub was quite quiet). I chose something off the menu and was given a dirty look and asked “are you sure you want that? It’s got sauce on it. If you’re picky get a kids burger.” I was very offended by her blunt, sarcastic comment and it made me feel very uncomfortable for the rest of the meal. I went back to the table and told my boyfriend of the situation and he noticed how rude she seemed to be towards me. Like I said, I know that some people have bad days and I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. However, I feel that her mannerisms were frankly very rude. Even if she had a bad day, she shouldn’t be taking it out on customers. I’m quite disappointed as I have always been a fan of the John Gilbert especially for drinks and the quiz but after this encounter I’m quite put off on going again.

John Gilbert is the best place I’ve for a very long time. Absolutely delicious and just what I need in the morning to fill me up for the day. Absolutely gorgeous and I’ll certainly come again!

It was alright. The lad behind the bar seemed seriously over run. Delivering meals and serving drinks.

Disappointing when you can’t order starter and main! Was told it will all come at the same time 🙄 cancelled the starters only ordered main ! Won’t be coming here again to eat ☝️

The sunday roast tasted like it was warmed up from the week before Couldn't cut through the beef or Yorkshire pudding even after we asked for a steak knife ,and it took at least 40 minutes to arrive, and there was hardly anybody in there 😖

Reserved a section for leaving drinks after my last day at work. Great communication and was smooth and easy to reserve a space! The pub was lovely and cosy and food amazing 🥰

This was my second time visiting this charming and historic pub and it was well worth it. The beer is varied and there is something for everyone with the hand pulled ales being especially good. We ordered a couple of the smaller plates to share one of which was the cod goujons .....wow! They were utterly superb and not to be missed. From looking at the other food delivered the standards here are very high and also consistent. A special word for the amazing and attentive staff who were working on Sat 24th Feb 2024, they were so very kind and friendly. The pub was busy but they were so efficient and so skilled at keeping on top of things - an absolute credit to Greene King and the pub. This is a beautiful place to go for a drink or a bite to eat and even has live sport on. There are so many little corners to find to feel cosy and even an events/function room tucked away. Even the toilets were absolutely spotless, this place is a true hidden gem and I can't wait to come back again. Don't just drive past, call in and see for yourselves.

I've not eaten here so cannot rate food but they sell peroni on draft and have live music most weekends. Staff are friendly and the pub is fantastic. Well worth a visit!

Easy parking as I was with my disabled mother, was greatful of the.disabled parking spaces close to the front entrance. Good service,good food. A pleasant and airy place , lot's of tables. Today was very quiet. Mum and I enjoyed it.

Came here for a Sunday roast this afternoon. Beef was so tender and soft, roast potatoes were crispy, fluffy and well seasoned. The best potato’s I’ve had in a restaurant. Very generous portions with lots of veg (normally restaurant roast are tiny portions). Staff were lovely and attentive, only thing is it was a little chilly as I’m assuming the heating wasn’t working. 9/10 for the roast!

Great Pub, Have been coming here for a long town and seen both good & bad landlords. Now the establishment is being run by an enthusiastic lovely lady . She has made changes for the better. It is warm & inviting place, good service, friendly staff. good food. We come as a couple, we bring family for meals. will be there again on Sunday... Keep up the good work.

The lovey lady now running this establishment has made such an impact. Its a pleasure to visit. we now pop in 3time a week. Food, drinks, charity events on Sunday and lots of good changes as in live much. Quiz night's with good atmosphere, Sport to whatch. What a huge difference this lady has made. What a peaceful location for lunch with my disabled brother. The staff were pleasant and served good food to .

The place was cold heating not work properly, card machine not working properly had to go back to the bar and do my card again to find out it was because the machine was not fully charged. We order a dessert with our meal when the waitress came to take our plates a way we told her we had order and paid for dessert this was at 3-15 at 3 -45 still not received them by this time we had already been to the bar and asked about them in the end we asked for our money back . Sorry would not go again

Beautiful place. Beautiful food. Beautiful people. The service was lovely. Very helpful and polite. Although I didn't eat food I definitely had food envy. It all looked amazing. The facilities were beautiful and clean. They offer the hiring of rooms which was great to see. I will keep this place in mind for any special occasions. Ooo there is a one way drive /parking system so when arriving in the dark, go past the building and then turn right. Also there are lots of posh cars parked up so must be a nice place 😉...

No Atomphere. Freezing cold. Place is a cold hole. Do not visit. When it first opened, it was a jem. Green King have destroyed a decent pub. As they do with most of there pubs.

We came in last night (myself, partner and my daughter) for tea & a few drinks. The food was LOVELY! The drinks were nice too, especially my Halloween cocktail. The bar staff especially the older lady was so accommodating, so friendly and even made my daughter a Halloween ‘mocktail’, she was over the moon! Would definitely recommend for service and food.

1st time going here with my gf and her grandaughter and my great grandaughter,food was delicious,i had a couple of beers,not the best i had but that is ipa for you,we would definitely go there again

Such lovely staff! Can't praise them enough for their service lots of young and very respectful workers always up for a chat, really makes my day whenever we come to visit.

Went for sunday dinner, beef was fantastic! Staff were lovely, just wish we had a nicer table but it was quite busy.

Kitchen open till 9pm very chuffed as this is a pub. Not your usual pub grub either, waitress calls "pub tapas" ha! had the squid (bit of a small portion,) Karange chicken (yummy) and halloumi (HAD WATERMELON ON AND SOMEHOW WORKED!) pleased with our meals most definitely and will be returning to this beautiful gem.

Been here a few times and went again the other day...what a disappointment...poor menu...some staff tetchy...food dismal...felt like had child's portion of frozen and tinned food...and not overly cheap, though cheaper than elsewhere...maybe that is the issue, get what you pay for?...reluctant to go back...oh n didn't sit outside as stunk of weed

Went out for a catch up with a friend, just had a couple of drinks, my friend ordered a dessert, she asked for more custard, happy to have paid for it, the extra custard didn't come despite asking twice. Not a good experience, will not return.

Lovely pub to look at, but disappointing food. Roasts had rock hard stuffing, hardly any gravy or veg, and bland meat. For £15 a pop, it was disappointing. I asked for condiments and some extra gravy twice, and after the second time I didn't want to ask a third. My friend ordered a Mac and cheese which looked straight out of a tin. The portion was tiny and the choice of something akin to watermelon in a side salad was a tad bizarre. Staff were nice enough but I definitely wouldn't return unfortunately.

Second visit to watch Pontiac perform there who were fantastic. Started off in the beer garden, then had some great food and followed up by the live band. Faultless as always, will be back again very soon as I hadn't realized it was a dog friendly pub.

Really friendly and welcoming place. We ate on a Sunday mid-afternoon and the service was prompt. The portions were reasonable (BBQ chicken ) without being over-generous but you did have the option to pay an extra £1.50 with the burgers to double it. Overall positive and would return there.

Great pub, dog friendly with lots of treats and fresh water available for pets. The food is good with a nice selection for everyone. The staff were chatty and welcoming with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely visit again now that we know dogs are...

Visited here on Friday the Pontiac's band was on amazing atmosphere to say the least. The staff was very welcoming with a positive attitude even though it was putting pressure on them due to how busy it was. Definitely worth a visit be returning for...

Average service. Tried to book a table online and it said it was full but when I called they had a table and when we arrived there were plenty of tables! Anyway food was reasonably good but the mushy peas were amazing! We enjoyed it...

Was over from my home country seeing friends . We came across this beautiful looking pub . Decided to go in . The lady straight away welcomed us all . Food was great we had these what she called sharing plates . Great for sharing between friends
