My boyfriend brought me here as it was his main haunt when he was at uni, I was fairly sceptical but I really liked the place! There was a real variety of people in there when we went which was nice.

Great place. Not been for a while but did not disappoint. Proper Hob ale was spot on on all my three recent visits. Shout out to Jodie who was barkeep on all three visits. Very friendly & chatty. Locals friendly and love dogs!! Treats and water available (didn’t even need to ask!)

We didn't eat so I can't comment on that one, but the service and vibe in this place were spot on. The staff were chilled yet attentive and the music playing in the background was a decent selection Will definitely be back

Only good thing is the £2.50 doubles. Ive read a lot of reviews calling the staff bullies and from my personal experience this is true. I have been coming here since 2021 and the environment has become unsettling and unsafe. Speaking to other frequent Thursday JSV goers, as well as bartenders from other Plymouth bars, this is a problem that a lot of people experience with the JSV staff. They want you to take up serious issues with them personally but when you do you are carelessly dismissed, they only care about business and not about the customers. These issues are not petty either, misogyny is rampant behind the bar. They will jump to defend their staff before understanding the severity of an issue. Listen to them talk behind the bar, I’m sure you’ll hear a misogynistic comment or two. Do better.🍸🍷

Myself and my housemates used to frequent this pub every week as they do £2.50 doubles on a Thursday, however this is the only good thing about this pub. The main complaint I have is with their tendency to hire horrendously misogynistic and abusive staff members who will then gang up on customers when this is called out. I personally had a sexual violence claim against one of their staff members of which I won and then got practically ‘told off’ for this by the manager. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour from all the staff, if I could give them 0 stars then I would. Would recommend taking caution if you are a woman who wants to go there.

Decent old school pub, handy for Plymouth station.

The staff and atmosphere in there is unbelievabley good. The staff are on it quickly and fast and are also very friendly. My big complaint is the price of drinks as they are very over priced so definitely not a place I can go to often as a student.

Cosy pub with a good atmosphere. It was a Sunday so it was quiet but the girl at the bar was friendly and kept working all the time I was there. Beer was good but I forgot how expensive drinking out is now. I feel old. Remember when it was like £2.80 for a beer? I guess that was 20 years ago. I think I'd have to remortgage my house if I went on a weekender these days.

Really lovely little pub, staff are amazing. Mega plus... They sell Proper Job. They sell Jail Ale. They sell Tribute 😋🍺 and they have a real fireplace🔥

Eden was the best server at JSV, she made sure my drinks were great, she’s a lovely person, honestly she made my whole experience so much better. The music there was very different and not to my taste and the food left a lot to want but Eden made my night :)

A vibrant pub that is normally full of students, but with the university really quiet so is the pub .Really friendly staff.

We where the 1st in when it opened at 2pm on Halloween. Bar staff great although when we offered to by the beer glass she refused and commented that were was CCTV!!!! We were never planning on stealing it, both prefessionals on very good wages. Anyway, the lovely bar staff offered to fire up the oven to cook us a pizza but we declined. Good beer if a tad expensive. My first visit to this pub since 1989, on a pub crawl of our old student watering holes, popped in again on the way to the station, by now much the worse for wear. Defo be back as plan on making another visit again next year.

An amazing pub. You will be made to feel at home. Great selection of drinks. Tasty pizza. And the staff are so friendly. And to add to that,they have a real log fire and are dog friendly. Perfect 👍 I will definitely be returning

if you’re a woman please be careful! a friend of mine went and got spiked by syringe. We contacted JSV via facebook and they did nothing, and were very hesitant to respond. Huge safeguarding issues, do not trust the management here to take care of you.

Oldie worldie pub, great atmosphere fab staff, has lots going on different nights of the week. Well worth a visit. Not full of yobs, popular student bar

Lived in Plymouth since '86 & never knew this was here behind the Uni & so close to the train station... quick visit, lovely place, decor spot on, dog friendly & good pint of Inch's cider. Definitely worth a visit & I'll definitely be back.

Love this place. Good selection of drinks (imo) including my favourite cider (Devon Red); friendly bar staff, nice food (even if the selection isn't massive) with a pool table and slot machine to boot. Friends, family or just by myself to distress, I love this place.

Visited for the pub quiz. Very friendly staff, good food and drinks and nice atmosphere with mostly young adults.

It a tired run down pub, by a moody cow owner. I came in with group of us it was like we walked into Mos Eisley Cantina from Start Wars A New Hope! there was wet dog inside I am not surprised the dog didn’t order a drink at the bar. And a some creepy old guy with beard pestering my group I think the clientele is mainly students to spend there student loan once they gone through they loan. It full of barflys. also they is £5.00 minimum avoid at all cost.

JSV had never been what it shouldn't be. A good pub with good drinks. A pool table, quiz nights and never any trouble (that I've seen) just go have a chill pint

Visited here a few times while passing through Plymouth to see the family. So close to the railway station, and not far from the city. Always a great atmosphere, good selection and fab offers on food and drink. The young girl serving is an absolute star. She acknowledged every single person entering the pub, even asked us if it was cold by the open window, she would close it. And when the delivery driver arrived, she asked if he had parked without any problems. She is an asset to JSV ....only wish many other hospitality places had staff like this. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Absolute diabolical. The couple that seems the run the place is husband and wife. Nothing but a bully abs 0 customs right service. All food served forged and zero staff customer service, Absolute zero customer service and a disrespect to customer service. A absolute disrespect to any manners and frightening customers. I witnessed her make 5 people leave. Avoid at all costs. No respectful beers on tap and no respectful bar staff. I welcome a reply from the staff on this open platform for a discussion

Visited a couple of times during our holiday and was made to feel really welcome. The beer was good and the service was great. The barmaid gave us a few tips about where to go and it was good to be remembered the next day when we went back.

Well run little pub, always has a great atmosphere. Really well kept real ales and a good local selection on tap. Mix of students and locals and can get very busy in the evening as it's right in campus. Bar staff are almost always prompt (within reason its a popular place) and friendly. Pizza and a drink is always a good deal, warm and filling, one of my favourite haunts when I studied here.

Extremely friendly staff, really good prices and one of the best places to play pool at while at a pub. Their home made pizza's are amazing and a must have when having a few drinks.

Lovely place, it is hidden away in the uni grounds so you think it will be full of students but it isnt, it is actually nice and chilled.

The JSV is the closest pub to Plymouth University Campus. Been in several times and its always very quiet. The pub serves well kept real ales. Also Pizzas are available. Jolly tasty.

Visité aquí en mi cumpleaños este año como punto de partida para nuestra velada con amigos. Disfruté mucho de la amplia gama de clientes, precios brillantes y excelente personal. Creo que JSV no es tan conocido como debería ser porque está escondido detrás de la Universidad, sin embargo, todavía tiene mucha costumbre. Más gente debería ir aquí y experimentar la jukebox y las mesas de billar. Aunque solo hay una mesa de billar, los clientes se mantienen tranquilos y se turnan si usted quiere tener un juego. Las pizzas son fantásticas también. No podría recomendar este pub más si lo intenté.

Lovely place and friendly staff.

Nice small pub situated on the doorstep of the university . Almost a nice hide away from the rustle and bustle from other nightlife . Great for groups or those one to ones , even just to pop in for a drink or two everyone welcome. Open till 2am each day . juke box to play the songs you want to hear for a small price along side a pool table which is used by all. Great staff who are well up on recommendations if you want to try a new drink or drink different shots.
