i recommend the hargow, steamed prawn red rice roll, steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce, and beef chow fun has enough wok hei, the only disappointing dim sum was the fried taro dumpling, the fillings were mid and they’re not even hot

We just stopped in here for a quick drink and loved the cozy and welcoming vibes. It felt like home. 10 out 10 recommend!

We visited on a Sunday afternoon, but the experience fell short of expectations. The staff was great, but the food was average. We ordered over 20 dishes to try. Not Recommended: -Pan-Fried Bun: Bun was too thick, little meat and not pan fried enough -Rainbow Shanghai Bun: Oversteamed, dry, and missing soup. -Congee: Bland, tasted like unseasoned pork. -Cheung Fun: Grainy texture, stale char siu flavour. -Thai-Style Chicken Feet: Too much hard cartilage, hard to eat. -Crispy Noodles: Lacked flavor, the noodle they used is quite thick ...which is not the usual thin egg noodle. However, the meat and seafood on it was a generous amount. Recommended: -Deep-Fried Items: Cuttlefish cake, king prawn dumplings. -Dumplings: Har gao, siu mai, scallop, and chi chow—huge and flavorful. -Turnip Cake: Both pan-fried and XO stir-fried versions were good . Overall, service was good, but inconsistency in food quality makes it hard to recommend. Hope they improve! Edit : The second pic is the pan fried bun that I took away. It was hard to finish. 😅 as you can see the bun is way too thick. It's more suitable for steaming. Bun from the super market is better quality.

First time going to this restaurant and I don’t think I would go back. The atmosphere wasn’t welcoming at all. Was greeted by Paul who I believe is the manger and because I was unsure of what the name of the table booking was he proclaimed that “if I’ve been invited, I should know”. I found many indirect comments made towards our party and overall it just made me feel very unwelcome and not the way I expect to be spoken to as a customer. The rest of the staff were very accommodating and very polite The food was good however I had to send back my chicken in black bean sauce as it lacked sauce. The salt and peppered wings were also really good.

I left a positive review for this establishment before however since then I’ve had 2 awful meals here. Unsure what’s happened perhaps there’s been a change in chefs but food has been substandard greasy and quite a disappointment. Furthermore the waiting staff seems to be unbothered regardless of the fact we always generously tip in the past! The manager is lovely but unfortunately I feel I need to take my customers elsewhere now

The Ivy Lounge in Birmingham is a great spot for Chinese food, especially if you're into dim sum. The dumplings are fresh, tasty, and full of flavor. The vibe is nice, and the service is solid. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving some really good dim sum.

The manager at this restaurant had a terrible attitude. We went as a group with both adults and kids, but they gave us a table near the door, even though there were empty tables further inside. When the kids sat down, the manager said the table wasn’t ready yet and made them get up. To top it off, they even made a comment in Chinese , He comment was, 'I know you haven’t eaten in days and have been waiting a long time for this meal.' The table was actually ready; it’s just that the utensils hadn’t been placed at each seat yet." It was fine for them to ask the kids to stand up, but there was no need to say something so rude. I confronted him right away, and it was obvious they realized he'd said something wrong because they tried to lighten the mood with some jokes. If it weren’t for my friends wanting to eat there, I would have left immediately. Honestly, I felt like my money was being wasted on such poor service

the food is very fresh and so tasty! definitely would recommend. there is a lot of steps to going to the restaurant. it was very bright and clean. is a bit hot even the windows are open. winter the place is very cosy.

The restaurant decor is the same style of those dim sum places in Hong Kong. The dim sum has good presentation. However the taste does not live up to it, the ingredients were not marinated long enough and not as flavourful as it should be. Otherwise, the service and environment are good.

Took my mum for a delicious lunch at The Ivy Lounge. We took the lift up to the spacious 1st floor restaurant, well set out with tasteful decor. The waiter was chatty and helpful and food was hot, fresh and delicious!!!

The second time we came, the chairs were changed, nice and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The dim sum is exquisitely made.The most delicious is the king prawn crispy rice roll. Disappointed is the steamed beefballs were not tasty. Most of the dim sum is quite salty. And some is not hot enough.

Great Chinese in the heart of China Town, Birmingham. Paul was friendly and explained the menu in full. Portions were very large so go in hungry. We will definately return.

My family and I have been going to Yum Cha here for a 18months now and I can confidently say after dining for decades in other neighboring restaurants, The Ivy Lounge is the better choice for Yum Cha. The food always come out fresh and piping hot. I pop in once every 3 weeks and I'm treated like a old friend. The floor managers are attentive, polite and good fun too which adds to the experience.

Our table was sat and ordered before two others, but the other tables received all of their food long before us. Servers kept walking past without acknowledging us, even the manager. I'm extremely disappointed with the service.

Lots of choices for in Chinatown but this was some of the best dimsum I have ever had. Some new takes on old classics really elevate the experience.

Very welcoming! Vast menu, excellent food. Prices were very good considering the quality of the meal. It was my husbands birthday and without our knowledge or prompting came with a coffee ice-cream with a candle and sang to him just brilliant. Can't wait to go again. Thank you all at Ivy Lounge for a fabulas evening.

Fantastic dim sum meal! I grew up in Hong Kong and this place is the real deal 10/10. We particularly enjoyed the steamed prawn dumplings, the roast pork cheung fun, and the turnip cake! Will definitely be back next time I’m in Birmingham! The staff are all super friendly as well!

Bit disappointed. It was really fancy going in. Had high expectations. The food came and it wasnt the best in terms of taste wise. I was expecting more flavour. We ordered soup and it was super bland! Wont be trying again. Also lots of mistakes and miscommunications. Its a good place to try but wont come back and dont recommend.

Waiting time was terrible. 1 Plate of food would come out and we’d wait about 15-20 mins for next. 5 plates of food have come about in the past 1 hr 30 mins. Told the manager we have at least 4 dishes that still haven’t come out and he then said it’s all come out. Will not be coming back here again

Terrible experience. Came here for my parents anniversary dinner. Food came out one after another. Half the order was missing. When I raised this complaint they said all the food has come out. It’s hard to get a servers attention. After complaining no one came back to explain what was the hold up. Not going to be coming back here. Much better service elsewhere.

We went for lunch twice in 3 days, absolutely great both times, excellent dim sum, fabulous service, Tiffany is a star! Very busy both days but we felt so welcome and well looked after, can't wait for our next visit to Birmingham.

Convenient location, nice decorations, spacious for Chinese dining, Dim Sums are well presented and tasted good in this price. Highly recommended.

The service is very good, the waiters are very considerate and talk and laugh with the guests. The environment is comfortable, the decoration is bright, and each table maintains a certain space. However, the food quality needs to be improved. For example, the barbecued pork buns were hard and the rice rolls were also very thick. I ordered several dim sums, but none of them were particularly outstanding. Overall the food was not up to par.

Has gone down hill greatly from when it first opened. Dim sum came luke warm today and the service was incredibly slow.

My daughter's and I visited here 17th August 2024. We all agreed it was one of the best meals we'd had in a Chinese restaurant. We made choice based on the feedback score in Google and weren't disappointed. Paul was amazing and really engaged with us with his sense of humour and really made us feel welcome, as did all the servers. Would highly recommend.

I heard this place from a friend of mine and tried it this afternoon, the dim sum we had was good, a bit pricey but can be expected.

As there are soooo many restaurants in Chinatown Birmingham I decided to check Google reviews to help us decide where to eat on our weekend away. The Ivy Lounge did not disappoint, in fact it exceeded expectations. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Our server, Paul, couldn't do enough for us, including amendments for me as a vegetarian, and had a laugh with us too, he really made our evening, thank you!

The restaurant is comfortably furnished, clean and hygienic, and there are many. The service efficiency of the waiters is also polite. In terms of food, I only ordered dim sum this time, and the quality was good, but not outstanding. In terms of price, it is about the same as other restaurants and is considered reasonable.

We visited the restaurant with our family, including two young children. The menu has a very Hong Kong-style design, and the staff can speak Cantonese. However, the food didn’t quite hit the mark. The stir-fried beef noodles were particularly bland. We also ordered xiao long bao, but the skin was very thick, and the vinegar that came with it was surprisingly spicy. Overall, the restaurant’s ambiance was decent, but the food could definitely be improved.

PAUL?! So rude! Does this manager treat his staff as bad as the customers?

We are returning customers who regularly enjoy the food and atmosphere, however our service this evening was very disappointing. The waiter taking our payment was incredibly rude and short with us when it came to the bill. When we split the bill and paying £26 each by card, he actually added the money together and said '£1.60 for looking after all of you', how rude! He then pressured us to add a tip when we were paying by card saying 'read the question and press the button' very aggressively. We always planned to leave some cash for tips but his rude behaviour really shocked and annoyed us, and he does NOT deserve any tips! Will not be returning as long as he works there.

We finally decided to visit The Ivy Lounge and we really enjoyed it. The service was friendly and efficient. The food came quickly and felt very fresh. I also really enjoyed having the picture menu which helped us decide what we wanted to eat! Overall, it was a positive experience and we would come back again.

I’ve been here for over 20 times. Very authentic Cantonese food for lunch and dinner. All staff are friendly and welcoming. The whole restaurant is clean and decent. It’s my favorite spot in Birmingham

I am from Lancashire we visited the ivy while staying near by my wife is not well as soon as we arrived we was offered a lift to avoided the stares then taken to our table immediately the gentleman who sorted every thing out got me a pint and quite honestly said please taste it because he didn't think I looked right (really honest of him ,🙂) I ended up with a lovey larger can't remember it's name he then came and sat with us to explain there vast menu what ever you asked for he sorted it hope he reads this review because the food the service and him in particular was brilliant I would highly recommend this restaurant only down side is I live over 100 miles away 🤣thank you to all the staff for a lovely meal and all your help with my wife x

Lovely interior. There is a lift just outside if you are worried about the stairs when you walk through the main stairs. Ignore what looks like decorating tools, once inside it lovely. Cutlery, chairs and decor all lovely. Fabulous choice of menu. Food was fab from the dim sum to main dishes. Paul was great fun and the other staff lovely. Will go again and even considering maybe a bday party/meal.

The food is delicious, authentic, and reasonably priced, and the host is great. One of the staff looks like the actor Ying Ruocheng as he was in his performance in the 9-Oscar-winning movie "The Last Emperor".

Beautiful restaurant delicious food staff were amazing couldn't fault the place. A mid week treat for my daughter and I. 10/10.

What a fantastic new addition to Birmingham! I used to only go to Chung Ying for their dim sum but The Ivy Lounge rivals it with amazing quality dim sum made fresh in house that tastes even better. Our waiter Paul was absolutely fantastic and is a credit to the business! Can’t wait to come back again soon 😁

We ended up in this restaurant by chance, after visiting The Back to Backs. Paul the manager had the food put together. Delicious food and very different from Chinese food in the Netherlands. Price-quality ratio is top.

Tasty food for dim sum with both traditional and more modern options

The seat I was assigned to had an open window nearby which was perfect for this hot day. I got to try shredded jellyfish which I’ve never had before and it was so good! Staff were also kind and attentive.

Lovely food and great service. Staff were so friendly and really helpful, food arrived quickly and was good portion sizes, feel like this maybe a hidden gem as there weren't many people in and we easily got a table on a Saturday evening but would definitely recommend and will definitely go there again

We loved the decor and atmosphere. Paul was wonderful and explained the Dim Sum menu very well and made us feel welcome. We over ordered and maybe could have been advised not to order as much but that's our fault, however it all tasted lovely. The place quickly filled up with lots of Eastern looking folk which we took as a good recommendation. Lovely place will definitely go back.

We visited after the theatre, so early evening and received a warm welcome from the host. The bright interior and modern style is appealing. Our set meal for 2 was very enjoyable, yuk shung and ribs made for good starters and we thoroughly enjoyed the beef, chicken and vegetables. We ate everything and will return to sample the extensive Dim Sum offering.

We visited on Monday night, it was after serving had finished but the waiter-Paul kindly agreed to serve us (which was super kind) Our family had never eaten this type of food previously. Everything that was served was delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience- the tasty food, the ambiance, the friendliness of the staff. Thank you very much

Excellent food and service at an impressive price. Food is fresh, main courses are larger than I expected and presentation is excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful. The menu has lots of choice and is written in both English and Chinese. The Environment is very clean and nicely decorated. £80 for the entire meal, beer and two teapots. They really know how to cook at this place.

Overall, I must give this restaurant a positive review for its great taste, reasonable prices, and quick service. The menu with photos makes ordering convenient. The ambiance is pleasant and they clear plates quickly. However, the stir-fried beef ho fun was disappointing. This classic Cantonese dish fell short; the beef was overly salty, while the noodles were bland, too soft, and mushy, as if overcooked in water. In contrast, the durian pastry was exceptionally crispy and well-filled, surpassing even those I've tried in China.

Great food and very fast service, the big boss is also a great character, definitely worth visiting. It does get very busy so either get there very early (at 11:30 in the morning already half full) or be prepared to wait in a queue. Recommended for sure.

Great place for dimsum with so much choice and with unusual dishes that you don't see everywhere. Good value for money and a very clean space with plenty of natural light and friendly service.

Had a wonderful evening at the Ivy Lounge. We arrived early just before the rush. The food was delicious and good portion. Paul was great and really looked after us. Really friendly and made us welcomed as though we were regulars. The place looked clean and bright and the toilets were nice and clean. Definitely recommend this place and 100% will be coming back.

Went with wife/ baby... no lifts for pram... had to carry up the 2 flights of stairs helped by the staff. Nice decor and staff were decent..... Not happy with the table design, it's a birdcage and you can't put your legs under. The pork crispy noodles was tasteless, Sui Mai looked raw and tasteless, portions were OK.....price was reasonable....10% discount if I paid by cash..... Overall it was OK for a try, there's room for improvements. Will possibly visit again but not in a rush.....

We were passing by, looking for a supper and popped in for some dim sum. Very tasty and excellent service! I'll definitely be back. Only downside is that the menu has no ingredients so it's not ideal if someone has dietary requirements.

We enjoyed our meal at the ivy lounge , Absoulty loved the desert steam bun also the pork steam bun it was in my opinion amazing also would like to thank Paul for his hospitality he was a great host thank You and will be back soon ! R&E
