The menu is short, which means what the cook does he does well. There’s always a couple of specials, excellent value. It’s a small place, and some people do book tables, but you’ll generally get a place. The guy who runs it is SO friendly, it’s lovely eating in such a happy environment. Great cakes. Excellent drinks. Well worth a visit.

We were in Newent for the weekend and stumbled across this gem of a place. Can't recommend it highly enough - it deserves 10 stars if this were possible. The owner is SO friendly, prices are good and food is fantastic. Wish I knew the owners name, but he is great. We went for breakfast on two mornings and the second time were greeted like old friends, he remembered how we liked our tea and where we were staying and was genuinely interested in our weekend away. He really helped to make the weekend a memorable one. Just wish we lived closer, and we would be regulars. Don't miss this gem of a place if you are in the area - you won;t be disappointed.

Such a gem of a place, the full English breakfast was lovely with good quality sausages, eggs and black pudding. Can’t recommend this place enough, the warm welcome and chit chat of the regulars dropping in to say hello makes this place one of a kind

We had the whole place to ourselves. Colin is the best host, always happy and welcoming. The food is wonderful - Lasagna for me and Chicken and Bacon salad for Martin. And a lovely coffee to end the meal. No licence but you can take your own wine/beer etc and no corkage charge. We are regulars but everyone always gets a warm welcome.

I was leading an epic bike ride from Cheltenham to Monmouth, returning via Newent. By arrangement with Colin to stop on route home. The group had had 3 flat tyres and we were running or should that be cycling late. I phone Colin who stayed open for us, his cake, tea, coffee, and customer service was first class.

We went to The Italian Kitchen this evening for a meal and as always we weren't disappointed. We both had Lasagna and it was delicious. The staff are great and very friendly, nothing is too much work for them.

Newent used to be avoided as a refreshment stop. Not any more! This coffee shop has a limited menu, sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc, but also daily specials ( e.g. soup, lasagna) We had vegetable soup, gloriously thick and tasty with lovely bread. One of the party had an egg mayo sandwich, also voted tops. My tea came with as much hot water to refill as I wanted, the latte was excellent. We finished up with cakes. The prices are low for the taste, the service friendly and efficient, and the cafe is in an interesting old building. I'll be going there again for sure.

We have been meaning to try this new restaurant since it opened and finally tried last weekend. It did not disappoint. The service was excellent, the food was so fresh and tasty and the atmosphere reflects the good time we had from the moment we stepped in to the time it was time to leave. As we live in Portishead it is not on our door step but we will be returning soon. To summarise fantastic

Colin has taken over fairly recently and made this a welcoming place for breakfast and lunch. Also now starting up with evening meals later in the week. Very friendly welcome and a good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices. Nice and clean and a good selection of desserts which my wife noticed !! All produce is sourced locally and added advantage that this is open on a Sunday (closed Wed). Well worth a visit.

Visited with friends tonight. Colin is doing a brilliant job of running this restaurant. The food is gorgeous and I couldn't beleive it was only £12.95 for 3 courses. Would thoroughly recommend it. You will need to book though as it's getting more popular each week.

Had a tea and a delicious gently warmed black cherry and crumble tartlet served with cream & a strawberry. Home made and delicious. There is an enticing selection of cakes and other pastries so plenty of choice at reasonable cost. They have a specials board and had an evening opening so plenty more to come from the talented kitchen and engaging host front of house.

Lovely, clean and airy establishment with an amazing selection of homemade cakes & desserts, specials and extensive food menu at a very reasonable price. Drinks are also extensive and can't quibble at the price. The dishes we ordered were really well presented and tasted amazing, soup was to die for and the broccoli & stilton tart was delightful with excellent service. Mars bar cheesecake cannot be described in words that can justify how amazing it was & the gluten free lemon drizzle cake was to die for according to my partner.Top marks for all the staff working foh and the chef in the kitchen. Excellent & will defo be returning :-)

Went to Newent to see some friends and decided to have lunch at the Italian Kitchen! What a lovely experience...The moment we've walked in we were welcomed by the new owner Colin which is one of the most welcoming host we have ever met. A legend in his own life time! Our lunch was superb and very good value for money.I had the smoked salmon salad, nice presentation and very tasty. One might say it's just a salad, for me the ingredients used and dressing was superb. My husband of course had the Italian cured meats, which come with very tasty olives and warm crispy ciabatta bread! Delightful! We were very tempted to try some home made cakes but decided against it! Only so we can go back at another time. The interior it's tastefully decorated and very relaxing. Can't wait to go back for another visit.

Hmmm. Hard to write this as the couple who run it are lovely..... but the food less so I'm afraid. It's a cafe by day and a restaurant by night....but not very Italian. Intimate as very small, needs some Italian music. Starters ok but main of steak in a supposed Italian tomato sauce was overlooked, bland and tasteless. Sorry !

We dined here whilst staying in Newent and it was delightful. It is run by a husband and wife team. We were given a warm reception on arrival and shown to our table. The restaurant is quite small and the tables are nicely laid out and the atmosphere is really nice. We took our own wine, as there is no drinks licence. But there is no corkage. Service is excellent and very personal. We had three courses and the food was very authentic italian.A delicious meal in delightful surroundings.

Visited last Saturday evening in a group of 8 friends - had the 3 Course menu which was fantastic value at £17.95. Even better value because you can take your own drink. Seafood salad starter, most tender venison steak I've ever tasted and then a wonderful Italian cake with ice cream and lemoncello drizzle. All well presented and beautifully cooked. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. Service was friendly and efficient. Quaint interior creates nice ambience.

This place is a real gem. We visited in July for the bistro night on a Friday evening and returned for an Italian meal last Thursday. Thursday's meal came to a mere £28 for 4 of us, fantastic! The olives and the homemade bread are very nice and we loved the tiramisu. You can also bring your own wine which is great. The owners are also very very friendly. We can't recommend this place enough and will definitely be returning.

We arrived early for lunch on a Wednesday as we have a very large Dobermann dog and wanted to make sure there was space for him We were greeted by a lovely young lady and shown to our table. The fire was roaring as we walked in and we knew straight away we had found the perfect Cotswolds pub Lunch was delicious,we had the Welsh rarebit, washed down with a mulled wine and a pint of local lager Service was outstanding, friendly and efficient. Our Dobermann got plenty of strokes too! Highly recommend this place. Not sure that you will find any better in the Cotswolds. A lovely setting too!

We have visited many times and so far not had a bad meal. The menu is not massive which I personally prefer and the restaurant is small so the owner/chef can concentrate on the quality. Drinks are reasonably priced and service is always attentive and personal. The chicken Tom Yum soup starter is always brilliant, full of lemongrass, lime leaves, galangal and chillies, an absolute treat. The beef massaman curry is spectacular however pre book it in advance to make sure you get one as chef only makes a certain amount per day. Everything is fresh, tasty and good value. It isn't the place to go for dessert (only cheesecake or ice cream) but main courses and starters are so well executed it doesn't really matter to me.

Attended a small wedding here the other day, the venue is so lovely, the food was fantastic, and the staff went above and beyond! I forgot to inform the groom or bride that I was vegan and when I asked the staff if there was anything I would be able to eat they prepared me my own meals for the lunch and dinner! If I could rate them higher I would!!!

We went here purely based on the other reviews claiming it to be the best fish and chip shop in the Forest of Dean. What a shock we had! The fish was watery, the batter was greasy and tasteless. Curry sauce wasn’t great. Tomato sauce was cheap and watery. They forgot to pack some of our order so we had to go back! Portion size was small. Chips weren’t nice. Overall we didn’t eat much of it.

My parents and I really enjoyed our Sunday roast. The roast beef was tender and they had a decent vegetarian option too. Really good value and the pub garden was sunny and warm.
