Had a great stop off here before my final night of walking the Ridgeway. Very warm and friendly staff - arriving on a Friday evening was great as the local patrons were welcoming too and wood-fired pizza available that tasted amazing, thank you!

I would very highly recommend the Inn with the Well. I stopped off here for dinner with my 12 year old as part of a 2 night trip wild camping along part of The Ridgeway (because I’m happy to sleep in a ditch but not without a proper meal). The food and service were both outstanding. We arrived looking slightly bedraggled but were warmly welcomed. Dinner of chicken/whitebait for starters and burger/pork belly for mains were filling and delicious and the local beer was good. All of the other customers were equally well treated. Thanks also to the group who shared a sandwich with us when we bumped into them the next day - I can confirm that the packed lunches are good!

Our second visit to this lovely Inn.We were staying at The Inn for 3 nights as it proves to be an ideal base for a long weekend attending a Metal Detecting Rally. Megan Mike and the team so very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had a Full Breakfast each morning and an evening Meal together with a couple of packed lunches which kept the hunger at bay during our outings . Hopefully will be returning again next year Many thanks for making our stay relaxing and welcome

We are so happy we booked to stay here for our first night cycling The King Alfreds way. The room was gorgeous, big and warm. It was a real welcome from a long tough muddy day on the saddle. The owners are literally angels for serving us a warm dinner and sorting out a hose for us to wash our bikes down and store them overnight. Dinner and breakfast was delicious and the Beer was also very good. Thank you for having us 😀

Nearing the end of 6 days from Goring to Overton. Stayed here and met with a couple of friends for dinner. We all chose differently and we agreed the pub food was excellent and reasonably priced. Fine cask ale from the cellar brought up in jugs. Comfortable large room Enjoyed eggs benedict for breakfast before settling off for the final day. Well recommended if you are doing the Ridgeway and like good beer and pub food.

Good location for Marlbough, clean, quite basic on suite room. Breakfast was very disappointing, no full English breakfast. We were asked to order the night before, which we found odd. Ordered the eggs benidict which was inedible when it came with some strange version of hollindaise sauce which was extremely sweet.Because of this we cannot recommend it as a bed and breakfast.

My husband and I stayed here for one night over the May bank holiday. Our room was clean and the hosts were welcoming and friendly. Even though we both choose the cooked breakfast I appreciated that there were so many options to choose from. The dog was really sweet and friendly. We were a bit concerned about hitting him with the car though. It was nice to come into the pub for a nightcap after our dinner out.

We were walking The Ridgeway and had terrible weather and tired legs, so I wanted somewhere to sit and dry out on our 22-mile walk from the start in Overton, to where we staying, which was an excellent B&B (see my review) in Liddington, just a bit further east. So, we dropped down into Ogbourne St. George for a rest and dry out and even though we had a lovely packed lunch, we had a tiny bite with our drink. They were very welcoming to Walkers so I would recommend if you need a place to warm up when walking The Ridgeway, but it is off the track, by about half a mile, so if you have tired legs, don’t bother. If you are fit and need a lunch stop and don’t mind the extra distance from The Ridgeway then it would be fine to rest briefly at this Inn. This is a classic British Pub with good hospitality and friendly service. It is practically under the A346 that is raised at that point. I am glad that we weren’t staying there, as I am very noise sensitive and need a good night’s sleep before walking.

Stopped here while walking the Ridgeway. We were early and they were not open but the manager showed us to our rooms and gave us tea and coffee outside on the picnic table. I had lasagna at dinner which was fine. This pub attracts a lot of locals and walkers for a drink and there were plenty of dogs. The rooms are attached to the Inn and were comfortable. The breakfast was typical english and was filling.

This is a classic British Pub but the food is excellent ( so is the beer and the hospitality). There ere good daily specials and excellent mains but I settled for the Phil Vickery sausage sandwich that came with old spot sausages, onions and mango chutney with fries. It was stunning, really tasty and literally the best sandwich ever. My friend had the leek and potato soup which was also very good. This was our first night stopover when walking the Ridgeway LDFP and after a very damp afternoons walk from Avebury it was a godsend. We are 3 brothers all around 50 and shared the family room of 3 singles. Lots of radiators to dry wet gear and younger! brother used the hairdryer extensively to dry out damp boots. We entered the bar at around 6pm to find them preparing for a Titanic sinking evening that gave us a sinking feeling too thinking they would be rushed but actually everything was great. Food perfect, beer good, staff very friendly. Next day breakfast of eggs benadict was first class and they even made packed lunches for us. All up price of about £70 each for B'B evening meal packed lunch a beer. What more can you want. Oh they even put frozen yogurt and chocolates in the lunch!

Excellent reception and nice warm feel to this pub. Limited choice of meals and although the range of sandwiches sounded appetising they left a lot to be desired. I chose the venison pie without a lid, as to my mind, this is not a pie. I am sure when it had been cooked, the meat would have been very tender, though a microwave does it no credit. Nice selection of vegetables, shame the dish had a chipped edge. Mash reminded me of 'Smash' with added butter. Hubby's fish was very small compared to that which he enjoys at other establishments. Also 10 bones! Shame, as we were 97 miles from home and had avoided other inns, for one we had hoped to be a little bit different. Well actually it was, will not be recommending.

We came in here after our first day of the Ridgeway trail. The beer Piston Broke was excellent. The owners and locals were friendly as was the pub dog! We came in later for supper, the starter was delicious, we had the sharing plates. We did have to wait a long time for these, but we were apologised to several times. Three of us had the burger for our main and it was over cooked, dry and generally disappointing. The vegetable option however was very good. I would recommend it though, even only for the beer.

The reviews of this Inn on TA indicate that this place should be ok for dinner, or used to be. And it’s not. The service was quite chaotic. The curry I ordered first, was not available anymore, so I ordered a burger. My daughter got her lasagne, but no sign of the burger. I waited a few minutes and called the waitress. They just forgot my burger. “I’ll tell the kitchen there is a skeleton in the pub”. My burger arrived, finally. Two horrible pieces of super dry meet on a toasted bun as hard as a stone. The only good thing were the French fries. We weren’t the only table that got messed up. At the table next to us, there was also a mix-up with the orders followed by a big discussion.

I ate here one night whilst staying in the village for business and was thoroughly unimpressed. In fact it was one of the worst pub meals I can remember. The starter was a failed concoction trying to be fine dining of which I left most and the main was bland and dull. Would I recommend it go again? No and No! They did at least serve a decent ale which is one positive I suppose.

We stopped here for lunch as a group of motorcyclists. The service was good and quite quick. They have a good menu here but we only wanted quick snacks. Their sandwiches are 'naffely' named after TV chefs and are offered in a choice of breads. My Rick Stein smoked salmon with cream cheese was very nice but not special [very thick bread spoiled the effect] and my partner's Phil Vickery with sausage, onions and mango chutney was deemed just OK. Other offerings were the Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay the ingredients of which did NOT remind me of any of them. I don't know about this phrase 'pan fried' which seems to appear on every menu. How else would you cook a sausage?

If you want a traditional pub that serves decent beer, combined with really well cooked food, then look no further. The hosts are great too. We've been a couple of times, once for lunch with family and once on a Thursay night which is their curry evening. Can't fault the food, notably the battered fish and chips. The curries and poppadums were good, but the sag aloo was very soggy and not up to scratch. A small point as everything also was well cooked and presented. It is our local now, so we will be regulars.

Excellent service, and a friendly welcome await you at this pub. The presentation was really good and the food tasty - we were visiting as a group - always a challenge. The decor is a little overdone, and could be extra sharp if the number of pictures up was reduced, using just the large wildlife frameless close up as a dynamic focus, but everyone's taste is different!

We wanted to meet up with some old friends, while we were back in the UK, we chose this inn as my partner loves real ales, and as we live in Cyprus , we dont get many ales.we booked an over night stay, our rooms were very clean, warm, well equipped apart from the tiny travel hairdryer!!!!! Our friends arrived so we went into the bar, and there was a lovely log burner going, so we got comfy on the big sofas, the staff made us welcome, we booked a table for dinner, 3 had the stilton and cauliflower soup. which was thick and tasty, i had the game terrine and that was uumm, we all had steaks.....the steaks were cooked to our liking, it came with peas, tomatoes and sadly some really sad frozen fries, a choice of jkt, boiled or nice chunky chips would of been much better.....perhaps we are spoilt living in northern cyprus with the wonderful potatoes, never a a frozen chip in sight....we returned to the bar and enjoyed some more drinks, it was a friday night, but very quite. we had a good sleep in comfortable bed and enjoyed a very nice full english breakfast, along with, cereal, fresh fruit, toast and jams and marmalade's and as much tea and coffee as you wanted.

Visited the Inn with the Well on a Saturday evening for a meal. We had bad vibes as soon as we walked in – we were greeted by the unfriendly chef who had a dirty stained apron on. We entered the restaurant and only one other couple there and a couple of people at the bar next door. We were served by the owner (I was told the wife of the chef ). She was not particularly friendly and didn’t want to enter any conversation, apart from taking our order, more interested in getting back to the bar to talk to the locals. The food was disappointing and I guess all out of a freezer and no finesses what so ever. The other couple left and we were the only people in the restaurant until we left at about 8.30 pm. I wished we had followed our instincts and walked out after the encounter with the chef and seeing the place empty on a Saturday night. To be fair the meal was not that expensive. We had stayed in a few other places on our break where the meals were slightly dearer – but the quality more than justified the cost. The acid test – would we return – defiantly not – awful.

Stopped by Parson’s Bakery today, and honestly, it was a pretty frustrating experience. First off, they only took cash on that day, which was inconvenient but understandable, so I went to a nearby ATM. My original total came to £8.60, but the staff told me they didn’t have exact change and asked if I’d like to add something to my order. I figured, fine, I’ll get a loaf of bread for home. Here’s where it got confusing—I paid with two £10 notes, but somehow only got £5 back in change. I should’ve had close to £4 more in change. Plus, the staff were dismissive and just plain rude about it, which didn’t help. The food didn’t help, either. My items were served cold, and the latte was so watery it barely tasted like coffee. Overall, a disappointing experience and definitely wouldn’t recommend.
