The staff were reasonably friendly but the food is AWFUL. It is not Indian food and more like the worst tasting fast food ever. Some of it tasted inedible. 5 people ordered rice….so they gave us 1 bowl to share and there wasn’t enough to go round Be warned - they don’t sell Indian food and you can buy chicken wings !! Awful

We were recommended to go here and we were glad we did. My husband and I shared a variety of vegetarian dishes and we really enjoyed the aubergine dish and the paneer dish. Nice little find in Birmingham. They accommodated us without a reservation which was very kind. The food in itself was lovely. However, the paneer fries were so sparse for the price and the batura was more of a naan than a puri. The service was excruciatingly slow albeit very kind when we had any interaction. The drinks were nice. Wish the menu had more photos so that we could see the portion sizes. Overall it was top on food taste, couldn’t fault it (except the batura), and nice location. Sweet ambience. Would visit again.

Food was not fresh. Someone needs to do a hygiene check as its quite concerning what I ate. I've been unwell since eating here. Also they cover everything with a tamarind bottle sauce. There are so many better choices in town such as Pushkars, Dishoom, Asha's, ithihaas. Compare the quality you get at all these other restaurants compared to here.

Food quality and taste has massively declined since the restaurant opened. They just smother everything with tamarind sauce. In terms of service, they take a while to bring out the food, which would be fine if they then didn’t give you 20 minutes to eat it.

Indian Streatery is a charming gem tucked away in the heart of the city centre, offering a delightful blend of flavors and an inviting atmosphere. The vibrant energy of the place is matched by the warm, attentive service of the staff, making it a cozy spot for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Indian street food. While the pani puri was visually appealing, it didn't quite live up to expectations in terms of taste and portion size. As a dish that's a favorite in India, known for its burst of flavors, it was a bit disappointing that it didn't capture that essence here. However, Indian Streatery truly redeems itself with its Samosa Chaat – an absolute must-have! The balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors comes together perfectly in every bite. The crispy samosa, mixed with rich chutneys and fresh ingredients, makes it a real standout on the menu. It’s the kind of dish that keeps you coming back, making your taste buds dance with joy. I’m sorry I missed taking pictures to capture the beauty of the dishes, but trust me, the presentation was just as lovely as the ambiance itself. Despite a miss with the pani puri, the overall experience at Indian Streatery is lovely – the ambiance is wonderful, the staff are welcoming, and many of the dishes, like the Samosa Chaat, are definitely worth trying. It's a place full of potential and flavor, just a little refinement away from perfection.

Only the starters were good but rest everything was microwave food. We ordered Black Daal which was very bad and maybe was cooked a day or two before. Serving bowls were old and basic! Chef refused to accept that the daal wasn’t fresh which I get why would he? Chole bhatura: ok Bhatrua was not puffed and was too thick and oily. We ordered Lachha parantha as the naan was not available So we ordered one each for the four of us! one was sufficient for the two as it was too big and again oily and hard to chew .. uneven corners! Disgusting! Vegetable kofta: I swear to god it was the worst dish we ordered! Trust me if you end up going please take a word of advice: PLEASE DO NOT ORDER VEGETABLE KOFTA! My 8 year old son ordered chicken curry which is his absolute favourite and tasted it and didn’t eat at all! He ended up eating my chola Bhatura which he liked and I don’t so it worked, as was not wasted … Samosa chat and loaded fries were the only Night savers! Bill for the 4 us in total was £108 trust me not worth it!

Food good but I wouldn't return. Booked online for a group of 6 occasion. Then for some reason the booking was cancelled. So I phoned the restaurant and rebooked. Experience started well with great drinks and food. However, we then felt we were being rushed, e.g. Dishes cleared before one of the group had finished eating. We were then given dessert menus, but then brought the bill. Then we were told that they needed the table for another booking that had arrived and we hadn't even been there quite 90 minutes. Then we were told there were no desserts available. I then expressed my dissatisfaction with the manager and was told it is clear bookings are for 90 minutes. This is not explicit on the website, or on the booking confirmation text, and I was not shared this information when I phoned. I didn't feel that the restaurant manager responded in an appropriate manner when I raised the issue and was disingenuous in saying it was made clear. If it had been, I would have booked elsewhere.

The ambience was warm and inviting, with traditional decor that sets the perfect tone for a memorable meal. One dish that truly stood out was the **Samosa Chaat**. This appetizer is a must-try for anyone visiting the restaurant. The samosas were perfectly crisp, generously filled with spiced potatoes and peas, and topped with a medley of tangy tamarind chutney, cool yogurt, and fresh herbs. The combination of flavors and textures in this dish was nothing short of spectacular—it was both comforting and exciting, with just the right amount of spice.

I visited The Indian Streatery for lunch today. The place had a cozy, welcoming vibe, and I loved the modern twist on traditional Indian decor. It wasn’t too busy, which made for a relaxing dining experience. I decided to try the pani puri and tikki chaat, both of which came highly recommended. The presentation of the pani puri was nice, but I was a bit disappointed with the portion size—just four puris with less than half a cup of water. The water was overly salty and didn’t have the authentic, tangy flavor typical of real Indian street food, which left me wanting more. The tikki chaat was a bit better. The tikki itself was perfectly cooked crispy on the outside and soft inside, with a good balance of spices. It was flavorful and definitely a highlight. However, the chickpeas accompanying it were quite bland and overpowered by the tamarind sauce, lacking the depth and complexity of traditional Indian flavors. I only ordered a small portion because I wanted to try other restaurants in the area. I found the prices a bit steep, especially for the portion sizes. Four pani puris with such a small amount of water felt like poor value for money. On a positive note, the service was excellent. My server was attentive and friendly, which enhanced the overall experience. The restaurant was also very clean and well-maintained, contributing to its charm. Overall, while the ambiance and service were great, the food at The Indian Streatery was lacking the real, traditional Indian flavors I was hoping for. With some improvements in the authenticity of the flavors, this place could be a fantastic spot for Indian street food. I might consider returning in the future, but for now, I'm looking forward to exploring other restaurants in the area.

We dined at Indian Streatery on Saturday. We had a fairly mixed experience and we will not be returning to this restaurant in the future. Firstly positives - good service from the staff. They eventually managed to seat us at a table with some light. And waiters/waitresses were attentive during our visit. The 2 cocktails we had were great - The angry Indian and the Visionary (? With pineapple and vanilla vodka). Sadly the food was a let down. Each dish was covered in the same tamarind sauce. Masala fries was just plain fries with the tamarind sauce. Paneer fries were okay. Chickpea burger was the only dish with some heat. We ordered pakora fried chicken wings. They were undercooked and hardly any batter - just covered in that same tamarind sauce. While I love tamarind sauce, it’s not so nice when all the dishes on the table have the same taste. Staff accepted the uncooked chicken back and removed it from the final bill. I was really looking forward to eating here but the food really misses the mark, not authentic flavours.

Ordered the mixed vegetable vindaloo and potato and cauliflower balti. Very rich flavours and a steady heat. Good delivery time with a selection of dips and poppadoms. With a wide selection of takeaways within walking distance, I would recommend Rajpoot.

Had been meaning to visit for a long time and they did not disappoint. Absolutely awesome food, great service and atmosphere. Enough said.
