Significantly average - the layout of the bar isn’t great and the service is poor. The drinks are good but overpriced. Better off across the road at the Wheatsheaf

I love the decor at the durbar, it's filled with books and lots of quirky bits and bobs. The garden is cosy and well heated. Friendly staff and nice cocktails. The beer selection could be better though

I was really looking forward to going for a curry at the Imperial Durbar as I'd heard good things. Unfortunately the bar staff ruined the experience; despite a quiet bar we stood for a good 10 minutes being ignored before being served. Furthermore, I had phoned ahead to ensure there were free tables- we arrived to find only benches in the cold garden room available. There was a table reserved for 8pm, which we were told we could have at 8:30pm if no one arrived, so we waited patiently. Long story short, they took the reservation card off at 8:40 and gave it to a couple despite the fact we were sat right in front of them at the bar, waiting. The service was despicable- slow, rude and completely unapologetic- it's a real shame as the bar itself is really promising. I would recommend going to Ploys or the Wheatsheaf across the road- a far better, friendlier experience on all counts... it's surprising what a difference having good staff makes.

Food was surprisingly good. Service a bit slow and awkward, long on fashion statement, less overwhelming otherwise.Paninis were excellent, just delicious. They use really good product and it's not even all that expensive considering. Good coffee too. You can get food from next door (Indian takeaway and very very good too) to eat in.

Read a few reviews and live just round the corner and had never been in so thought i'd head down. I can only say the reviewer JKShepley must have never done history at school or just not be very clever... the interior has been immaculately done to a colonial indian style with lots of little quirks. V cool indeed. Had some great cocktails too. In fact... a few too many...Definitely worth a visit and haven't even mentioned the food. Best curry in tooting as they've partnered with the cardamom club and delivered in tiffin boxes. love my new local!

The decor was *technically* nice (lamps and drapes and stuff), if you can ignore all the really weird British Colonial India undertones, pip helmets, and what not (which is difficult). But the cocktails were tasteless and pricey. They all sort of hijacked South Asian flavours but really poorly. Didn't eat the food but imagine one of Tooting's more honest and authentic Indian restaurants would be much better.

Again, if there was a good rather than very good this would get my vote. Great place for a coffee, brunch or sandwich lunch. Quirky food, served with a laid back vibe and in an interestingly decorated bar. I've been here for cocktails and coffee and it's got a great feel to it. Hope it continues to get lots of local support as places like this deserve to thrive.

My partner and I went for a cocktail Sunday evening. The bar tender seemed friendly at first. He took a long time to make two cocktails which was quite frustrating but we didn't say anything. When we came to pay he asked if we wanted to set up a tab to which I said no. I then when to pay by card and for some unknown reason the bartender became really abrupt and rude. He threw my receipt down next to my drink which made for a really awkward atmosphere. It was a real shame as the cocktails were nice but his attitude ruined it.

I really like it here. It's a nice smallish bar with a great curry delivery option going on. I'm also pleased that the staff obviously really enjoy working here, that's great, but it's also kind of annoying when you're waiting at the bar, trying to get a drink, and they're slapping each with tea towels, hugging and being all cookie and adorable.

Myself and a few friends booked a table here to have a Christmas get together on Saturday night as a few people had recommended it. I have to say from the moment we walked in when it was quiet to the time we left the service behind the bar was rubbing and stayed rubbish! At one point there were four people behind the bar but only one person making drinks so I asked if anyone else was serving!!! Seriously I find this unacceptable . Earlier my husband was in the middle of being served when he took some drinks to the table then went back to collect the rest the barman had started to serve someone else so he was told he would have to wait. Myself and my friends will not be going back here, there are plenty of other good bars in the area an adorns Saturday night it wasn't very busy so maybe they need to work on customer service !!!

I held my girlfriends surprise 30th birthday party at The Imperial Durbar and it was excellent. The venue is brilliant, it is big enough to hold a large group of people at the back, as well as having outdoor space (which was exclusive to us).The staff were extremely accommodating in preparing for the party and were really helpful during the event. Drinks are reasonably priced and the food which can be ordered from The Cardomom Club , next door which is brilliant too. Thanks to Al and Nick for allowing us to have a great night.

I have been here a handful of times and actually quite like this little place. The drinks served are lovely and the decor fun. Its a nice little local for a decent cocktail. I would say some effort needs to be made to pick up the serve speed if they want to get bigger crowds, but i guess that sort of stuff comes with time and experience!

The first thing to say is that the decor and general ambience are excellent but the service we experienced was absolutely atrocious. It probably took 25-30 after ordering our four cocktails before the final one was delivered which meant that the first two people in our party to receive cocktails were faced with the choice of carefully sipping until the others came or being finished before the others has started. When we gently hinted that maybe the service could be a little faster we were cheerful told how wrong we were and that they were serving us just as fast as could be expected. And, to be honest, the cocktails weren't that great - we even speculated as to how much alcohol was in them because they mainly tasted fruity. After we left, one of the bar staff chased us up the street to say sorry and offer some free drinks but too late. (And it ain't cheap!)

I attended The Imperial Durbar for a late afternoon networking event, and my first impressions were positive. Although outside it has the misfortune of being stuck between 60s council commercial buildings, its imperialistic decor inside certainly makes up for it. The selection of drinks on offer are quite varied, but it would be nice to have more than 3 draft lagers. Hidden at the back, it also has a beer garden which again is damaged by being on a car park surrounded by old fashioned commercialNow I get to the reason why I have given it 1 star. The staff. A busted Sugababes tribute act with no manners, intelligence, topped off with having the sales ability of Apprentice rejects. I don't want to bore you all by accounting the whole stories so let me summarise:1) Asked how much a pint of beer was. I was informed that I could buy it with a card. Then I was told "seductively" that I had to spend £5.00, so I should buy another drink now. It seemed like an absolute ploy, I refused to and I got absolute aggro.2) When my friend had just bought our 2nd (and last drink), the blonde Sugababe seductively asked him: "Do you think I should be a real fish in here", pointing at a plastic fish in her tip jar. He immediately went into his wallet to put some money in it. I stopped him and said to her sternly (word for word): "Excuse me but I believe it is down to the patron to decide whether he tips you or not". To cut a long story short, she got absolutely mad and shouted at me, denying it. She looked like if she wasn't working, she was going to bottle me. I remained civil; it was a disgusting display. She could have denied it and joked; but she was rumbled and had nowhere emotionally to hide. OK, I am now in Rantsville. I would expect this sort of behaviour in an Essex nightclub, not an Indian restaurant/bar. Get more professional staff and it would be a wonderful place. I don't want to be rude, and if you know me I am actually a bit too nice a person, but having worked in hospitality for 7 years (including in rather corrupt and sexist venues in Russia and UAE) I have NEVER seen such a repulsive display of manipulation in my life. Let's say that I'm glad I left with my kidneys still inside me!I hope that management take these words to heart and ensure that this doesn't happen again. Sure they are very nice in reality, but they need to be retrained and managed better.**DID NOT TRY FOOD, smelt good!**

The cafe/restaurant has several sitting areas styled in a "Raj" style setting, highly atmospheric which would make a great spot for a party with friends. Serves teas, coffees, licenced bar, and when we were there the music was 70/80's Rock, Soul etc. classics. The food comes from an Indian along the road but you order from the Imperial Durbar and it is delivered like a takeaway in special metal serving dishes - really quite fun experience. The food quality was very good indeed and good portions making it very good value for money. Maybe not as varied a menu as a normal Indian restaurant but more than adequate unless you have specific favourites. Absolutely recommend a try even only for the food and the sense of fun!
