The Hydrant in City of London, Westminster

Popped in here today for a quick drink. Really nice place and very friendly staff. I will definitely return to try the food.

We stopped in for beers to be had outside. We had a couple of pints after a friendly conversation with the nice bartender who helped us select beers. We sat out at the tables on the square, right next to the monument to the Great Fire of London. It was a beautiful day for outdoor beverages. There was bell-ringing practice at the nearby church happening, so the entire experience was lovely. We didn't eat food, but our interaction with the bartender and the lovely spot to enjoy our late afternoon pints warrants a great review.

Went for one of the England/s EURO matches - it was a nice atmosphere even though we had not the best seats to see the screen. What I didn't like is the outrageously bad food.

We are French, , I came with my brother and my mother for lunch during our stay in London to taste delicious fish and chips.

This restaurant is just amazing! The Staff is so friendly. The restaurant ambience is cool and modern and I really liked it. I ordered the fish and chips and it was delicious. I highly recommend it. Also the burger was so delicious as well, the burger pattie was juicy and very flavorful. All in everything it was a great stay and i can only recommend. I will definitely go back if i visit london again.

We stopped by The Hydrant in Candlewick Ward when we decided it was time for a rest and a quick cup of tea. We didn't stop too long as we had other places to be, however it was a decent enough little pit stop. Don't be put off by the pictures you see on their TripAdvisor page. The place is nowhere near as tediously hipster as it appears, or as it perhaps wants to be. One thing that immediately struck me was the overpowering smell of fish. Not unpleasant - it wasn't like being down at Billingsgate or anything - but quite overpowering. This was because almost every person in here was eating fish and chips. I began to suspect we were the only ones who weren't. For the record - the fish and chips looked great. The tea was fine (tea is tea ultimately) but I was disappointed that the two glasses of water I asked for as well were not forthcoming. I asked two separate staff members, and they both acknowledged my request and then promptly ignored it. Step forward Priyanshu - a pleasant young man who did what his colleagues found so challenging and brought us some water. This place is well situated (literally a stones throw away) for the Monument to the Great Fire of London. Its a good job the people of London didn't look to the staff at The Hydrant for water back in 1666, as the fire would have spread to Hampshire by the time Priyanshu rocked up.

Durante un viaje familiar al Monumento, mis hijos de 6 y 5 años necesitaban una llamada a la naturaleza. Así que entramos en la boca de riego y les pedimos que nos permitieran usar el baño; esto no fue un problema en absoluto. Fue en ese momento que vimos el menú en la pared y dijimos lo lindo que era el lugar. Así que decidimos volver a almorzar, una vez que hubiéramos tomado nuestras fotos alrededor de la atracción.Personalmente pensé que el menú era pequeño, pero ahora lo pensé perfectamente adecuado para lo que estábamos buscando. Pedimos dos bocadillos de pescado y un sándwich club (2 adultos / 2 niños) junto con cuatro refrescos. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa y abundante para llenarnos a todos.Teniendo en cuenta la ubicación, no sentimos que tuviera un precio tan bajo para lo que teníamos (39,00) y definitivamente nos gustaría volver.

Ordered a glass of Prosecco, half a glass turned up and paid £8.50 for the pleasure. Won’t be going back there again.

Went to The Hydrant for a quiet birthday lunch only to be disappointed by the severe lack of choice of menu compared to what’s advertised on the website menu. Be aware that you’ll have to pay extra for chips etc to go with your main course AND watch out for the service charge?! It’s a bog standard pub for goodness sake. Sad to say we won’t be returning.

My husband and I met our local friend at this pub. We enjoyed the extremely bustling atmosphere, the pints, and the service.

Went for a drink before dinner with some friends. We were there with the after work crowd and it was quite busy at the bar area. Think you have to get there quite early to secure a table.Drinks prices are ok and also selection was ok. We would go back but probably more as not a lot of choice around here that isn’t a traditional boozer or isn’t crazy busy.

Popped in on a trip to London as wanted to visit the monument . Great friendly and fast service with a fab range of beers to try. Will definitely be back when I’m next in the area.

My wife and I came upon this place whilst walking towards Monument Tube station, and simply fancied fish and chips. Good sized portion of fish, and good quality chips. We didn’t need anything more.

Estaba ocupado, un poco demasiado ruidoso en algunos lugares debido a la música. Pedimos dos pintas de la cerveza invitada arriba. Desafortunadamente, la cerveza se había vuelto rancia (estaba agria, pero no se suponía que fuera una cerveza agria). Cortésmente le pedimos al barman que reemplazara nuestras cervezas. Él se negó, así que nos fuimos. No es lo que esperaría de un pub propiedad de Fullers. Muy decepcionado.

I am gobsmacked. Just witnessed the staff in this bar pour the drip tray into a pint glass and serve. I know it’s Christmas and most people are trousered but that is completely unacceptable.

What a terrible time I experienced at the hydrant on the 13th of December. I booked a table for 4 people at 6.30pm.

I had a brunch meeting close to Monument and expected a typical Fullers pub. The Hydrant is styled on a fifties diner with an American venue to match. The service was friendly and as quick as it takes to prepare fresh food. A good price for London and very close to the tube station.

Having moved offices in the last couple of weeks we were hoping this Fullers pub would live up to our previous locals, The Tokenhouse and The Telegraph. Sadly not.

Locale a due piani arredato prevalentemente in stile rusticone. I bocchettoni dell'aria condizionata danno fastidio perché proiettano l'aria fredda direttamente sulle persone. I panini sono buoni ma un po' cari viste le dimensioni.. sarà forse perché siamo nel centro di Londra?

Visitó aquí hoy, la cena del asado fue muy buena, el asado de los niños que faltan en el Yorkshire aparentemente no viene con uno a pesar de ser una porción más pequeña y exacta de los adultos. ? ?

Una hermosa pinta de Dark Star a la temperatura correcta en un día muy caluroso, y después de un paseo por el Támesis desde Limehouse. Se sentó afuera y vio pasar el mundo. Vergüenza por la mesa ultra-tambaleante.

Fuimos aquí porque teníamos hambre y sed, y estaba al otro lado de la calle, así que lo probamos. No hay mucho de una selección de cervezas artesanales. El servicio fue bueno pero lento y sin prisa. Pedimos nachos y fue un pequeño plato de chips genéricos y queso fundido. Lugar muy mediocre y poco impresionante.

Cooles In-Restaurant nahe der London Bridge und direkt am Monument. Auf 2 Ebenen wird allerlei geboten. Fleisch, Fisch, Salat, Burgers, BBQ - alles da. Aber besonders ist eher die Atmosphäre auf 2 Etagen, die Ausstattung und das Publikum, das vom Studenten bis zum Manager reicht.

Bellissima location e buon cibo, atmosfera classica londinese, i prezzi si sono leggermente sopra la media ma consiglio di andarci!

When I arrived the place was empty . I went to a table and sat down . Neither the barman or waitress paid me any attention . It took me to get up and approach the bartender and ask if I could get breakfast !

Anche se i prezzi sono un po’ alti, vi consiglio di fermarmi per assaggiare i piatti proposti.

We visited at the week end and although it was quite busy there was not a great atmosphere. The waitress took our order and she trouble understanding what we wanted but she was friendly. Expensive for what you get but i guess the prices are in line with other pubs in that area. Overall pretty uninspiring

Wow £13.60 for a double G&T; when a 70ml only costs £19!!!!

It’s pretty perfect for a mid-week after work tipple, and perfectly placed in relation to London Bridge and Cannon Street stations. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit but it makes a perfect local for the work commute.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and the service was OK and the venue looks good. Not much of an atmosphere but that may have been due to it not being overly busy...

A friend and I stopped in here to sample some beer while we were walking around London. Good location and ok selection of beer - I was looking for more of a craft brewery type of feel, which this is not, but we were still able to get a couple of flights to try a number of beer.

The best thing about our evening was Joy the waitress - she was a joy! She looked after us superbly all evening, including going thoroughly through the menu with my friend who has a food allergy, and then double-checking with the chef. The food was very good (two of us had chicken burgers, friend had huge caesar salad with chicken) and we didn't have to wait long for it. Also a good choice on the drinks menu. The place was very busy, full of workers having a post-work drink on a Friday evening, but the noise level was fine and we could hear each other without having to shout. Really nice atmosphere and would be happy to go there again.

Enjoyable place to have a few beers and some pub grub. Enjoyed the atmosphere and selection of beers. Thumbs up for the fish and chips!

Hemos pasado por este lugar en varias ocasiones y hoy decidimos probar este restaurante para el almuerzo. Deberíamos haber seguido caminando. . . . . ¡que decepcionante! Los tacos de puerco desmenuzados eran horribles, un desorden grasiento y grasiento. La señora responsable de nuestra mesa vino a limpiar los platos y preguntó si nuestra comida estaba bien. When my friends and I entered the restaurant we waited patiently to be seated but none of the staff came to seat us and most looked in our general direction but then completely ignored us. Eventually we managed to flag someone down and we were seated. Afterwards when we tried to order the staff were again difficult to get hold of as they wondered around the restaurant but didn't engage with any of the customers even thought it was very obvious many of them wanted to order. Eventually a man with coloured white hair came to take our order but he was incredibly rude and very patronising, when he was taking our order he made it very obvious he did not want to be there. We also asked if there was a menu for the drinks and he said they didn't have one. When we asked about the beers they served he said he didn't know what they had. It was very apparent that the staff had a very poor knowledge of the drinks they served which was very disappointing considering this restaurant prides itself on the fact that it serves great craft beers. The food was fine. No staff came to check on us during our meal and again we struggled with getting hold of any waiters so we could pay. When we tried to get our original waiter (the coloured hair man) for our bill he stood not far from our table and loudly announced to his colleagues that he was now going on his break and left. Eventually a lady with glasses sorted the bill for us and she was possible the best waiter they had there. Overall I was very disappointed and would advise if you want a place with great craft beers, friendly and knowledgeable staff and a good atmosphere this is definitely a place you will not get it.

Visited last week with a group of friends after a day out around London. Great atmosphere and service. Food was also great. New favourite pub in central London!

Mi cara está muy quemada debido a un incendio en la casa en los años 90, cuando mis vecinos me confundieron con una bestia. El personal siguió mirándome y me hizo sentir muy incómodo y esto me desanimó de inmediato. Fui al baño y ellos olían mal y había orina en el piso. No me quedé por el pescado que acabo de dejar. Más tarde me di cuenta de que dejé mi sombrero allí, pero no me molesté en volver

I was very impressed by the service and the food that we received today at the Hydrant. The staff members were super friendly, it was very cold and we asked them to turn the heating on and they were so nice about it.

Poped in on family day out in London.It is right next to the actual Monument statue.Of which one of my teens ran out to read all about ! Ordered beef and chicken burgers,Crab burger,mini tacos.You need to order fries as extras.Waiter very nice and organised.

The whole family visited The Hydrant in Monument Street..super food and superb service along with great Fullers beers ..a very enjoyable venue and great for kids..just need a kids menu at weekends..we visited Saturday lunchtime..

I guess you're paying for the view, but not worth it. Go to one of the pubs close by as they will be a lot cheaper. Tiny glass of wine for £7.50 is a daylight robbery.

Salmon Burger and one Regular Burger very good. The service was great nice location great window view. Price was a bit on the high side but that was due to the location. Relaxing a good spot to take a break.

My wife and I found this lovely place we had a meal and drinks in here. The service given by Morty made us feel relaxed and welcome. We were on a day trip to London from Poole Dorset, we will certainly return next time we are in London.

Located a stone's throw from the Monument, you'd expect this place to be full of tourists, but strangely it wasn't on a mid-week lunchtime.

Our waiter was very nice and helpful. (PS the crab salad had about a tablespoon of crab meat on it, I wouldn't recommend that. But everything else was good.)

Enquanto esperávamos um passeio que seria ali perto do monumento ao grande incêndio decidimos tomar uma cervja e comer algo no Hydrant. Boa surpresa pois o fish and chips estava delicioso eas cervejas sensacionais. Inclusive conseguimos uma London Pride não filtrada geladinha. Bom atendimento e ambiente bacana. recomendo...não só para esperar.

Very nice food and friendly, helpful, welcoming staff. They let me come back later for the pint of lager included with my meal. Fish and chips amazing. Lamb burger very tasty. I'm glad I found it. Very clean also.

Este bar, que sirve una comida estaba tranquilo cuando nos fuimos. En nuestro grupo había dos adultos y un niño que queríamos una cena ligera y eso es exactamente lo que conseguimos. No hay menú infantil o cualquier sugerencia por personal ofreciendo una porción más pequeña para un niño. Después de pedir la comida y 3 refrescos nos dijeron que teníamos que pagar ahora o abrir una ficha bar nuestra camarera. Esto nos pareció extraño y Bromeamos entre nosotros fue la comida que mal que los clientes previamente no había pagado! La comida llegó patatas hecha y quemado bastante comestible. Pasable no genial. Macaroni Burger no genial. Nuestra factura un cargo de servicio, que la suerte les dieron que ya no le dimos propina, cómo podíamos cuando tuvimos que pagar por adelantado, antes de ver o comer una comida! No fue una gran experiencia. No volveré.

Meu marido resolveu subir até topo do “the monument”, então fiquei esperando tomando uma cerveja. Estava bem agradável. Comemos depois uma salada e um wrap que estavam bem gostosos.

After visiting the Monument tower we had a nice coffe-tea here. Good sitting area to view the busy bar scene of office people. The decoration is very interesting with the used water hoses from the fire engines.

Gran servicio, limpio, buena variedad de cerveza, pero la comida fue una decepción total. Pescado en un burger hamburguesa de más de pollo frito, peri peri en probar un pan soso y las patatas fritas eran secos. El lugar fue el bar vacío, unas cuantas personas bebiendo fuera, así que la cocina no estaba lleno! Para resumir, es un sitio agradable para tomar una copa, pero evita la comida.

Can't really fault The Hydrant. It was a little noisy (it was Friday lunch time mind!), but myself and a friend had sandwiches and a pint. We had a great table, the food was great and the service lovely and friendly. I would recommend it for a stop off.

It’s a pub so not sure one should expect more but The Hydrant was good beer and ok food. We had booked but they booked a private party upstairs so they seated us downstairs where it was loud and crowded. Fish and chips were soggy. Overall food just wasn’t that good. It’s a good location, I would give it that. The wine list was obviously something they were not focused on either.

Strangely,here, if you order fish in batter and mushy peas you must buy a separate, side, £4 bowl of chips....

If you want to wait forever to be served, being ignored for any of the staff members or overpay for...

Comprei um hamburguer. Achei o pão seco.. o hamburguer mal passado. O valor era acessível. Porém não gostei do sabor do sanduíche.

Buen lugar para comer en la ciudad. Probablemente el mejor sandwich de palitos de pescado que he tenido! También he estado aquí para tomar unas copas, se pone bastante concurrida y tiene un buen ambiente.

Popped in for a light breakfast of toast and coffee. Although toast alone doesn't feature on the menu they showed flexibility and good customer service and served it to me. The waiter - Iman (?) apologized that he didn't have jam to offer me as the toast is normally only served with the breakfast, but as I don't eat ham anyway I wasn't at all upset.

Nice vibe in this place with a great selection of craft brews, you will not find your average Fosters and Stella on tap here.

Enjoyed Saturday evening meal here before taking tube from Monument to the Theatre.There was a lovely atmosphere in this themed airy and bright restaurant.Food great and served by helpful pleasant staff.Highly recommend

Been here a couple of times to eat and drinkthere isn't much selection on food and i only like one thing from the tapas type menu.atmosphere is nice and you can have a conversation inhere.

Well after a weekend of Para-athletics and sight seeing it was time for a relaxing lunch before we head back to the train station for home. Our last call was The London Monument and this restaurant is right by it so we decided to give it a try. The staff were friendly and polite, they took the trouble to ensure that we were seated and had drinks whilst looking over the menus. We all chose the Sea Bass and ordered triple cooked chips to go with it. It arrived three pieces of sea bass on a bed of mushy peas with tartar sauce. The chips came separately in a small dish. Could not fault it, absolutely delicious.Décor of the restaurant is lovely with a screen of artificial plants separating a behind the scene part of the kitchen (think it was the washing up area) from the clientele. Toilets are downstairs. These were clean and tidy and fresh smelling (well the ladies were I can't vouch for the men's lol).If I'm around that area again I would definitely drop in for something to eat or even a quick drink.Three meals plus drinks came to just over £55. Well worth it for London prices.

Perfectly adequate venue for lunch in the City to catch up with colleagues.Service was a little slow and there was no coca cola which disappointed one of the attendees but otherwise food was good. Slightly random menu but a decent burger and chips were worth paying for on top of the meal.

popped in here for a quick drink last night as i`ve never seen it before.The place was really busy but i was blown away by how nice all the bar staff were. The tender that served me was lovely and even another one behind the bar smiled ,i did at this point check that i didnt have anything on me face and it was all cool !. The round of drinks were well priced for london and i`l look forward to paying a longer visit and eating next time.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was fresh and tasty. I had prawns skewers which had a lovely salad and sauce. Only negative is size of meals is a little small.

Went on Sunday 9th with family from Arizona. The staff were amazing, big smile, friendly. A great selection of drinks. Good food.Great time.

We visited The Hydrant for breakfast as part of a hen party weekend. 17 or so of us turned up for breakfast without notice. The meals were all prepared and brought out together, nobody had to wait. Everybody really enjoyed their food and the service was superb! The staff on shift this particular morning did an amazing job and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend. Vegetarian and vegan options available. Visited June 10th.

We ordered ribs and burgers with extra cheese and beacon. Each of thing has a price on its own. So, we paid extra for those and 5 more for chips. We waited about 15 minutes and burgers arrived without extra we paid for. Ribs were good, chips aswell and after we told them they made us new burgers. But I am not sure the extra is worth for 2.5 gpb also the burger itself was overcooked and dry. At least we got free refills while we waited our new burgers. I have a small deja vu of Jamies Italian I reviewed last year and which is closed for now. When it comes to beer this place has nice selection but food wise I recommend aomething else. For this price, 16.50 gpb for burger (all extra included) and fries you can find better place.
