What wonderful cupcakes! We tried the Red Velvet one and the Carrot Cake one and they were tender, juicy and delicious. Of course, the pastry's fame is more than justified. It is worth the price you pay. To repeat.

This is a good muffin shop in Notting Hill. The muffin I have tasted was softly greased, chocolate-coated, fluffy, bite-sized and lip-smacking.

Talk about going downhill! Spent over £100 on cupcakes but zero attention to detail when being delivered and to top it off there was a hair in one of the boxes 🤢🤮. All of the cupcakes were overturned upon arrival. They arrived in a bag Some genius also thought it would be a good idea to tape the boxes together causing the cardboard to rip - not great for presentation. Shocked by how far the standards have fallen. Overpriced for flour and sugar and that too such messy presentation. Another business destroyed by private equity.

No, maybe because it was a weekday, there were no customers. It was the most delicious cupcake I’ve ever had in my life. Korean cupcakes taste like crazy, but why are British cupcakes so delicious? There are vegan and gluten-free options. I heard that Red Velvet is the main flavor, but it's really flavorful. I ate it with cappuccino. Wow...♡♡♡

I stopped by this lovely place on a Saturday afternoon to enquire about a custom-made birthday cake, then ordered on Sunday and collected on Tuesday. Over 3 times, I was received by friendly staff who took me through the entire process and made sure that I achieve exactly what I wanted: a lovely cake with a personal touch across the shape, colour and birthday message. To Daniela, and the team at Hummingbird Portobello, I say thank you!

Ordered for an occasion 3 days in advance spending £55. On the day of delivery I was at home all day and at the end of the day was told the delivery driver couldn't contact me (A lie, I had no missed calls) and as such I need to go pick up the cake from the other side of London (impossible with an event and guests coming) or the cake will be destroyed and my money gone. Do not order online from them.

We recently got cupcakes and a red velvet cake here to celebrate the Misters birthday. I am not a fan of red velvet as much as he is but I must say this one I probably ate more than the birthday boy. It is super nice. I would definitely recommend them.

The carrot cake is excellent, the salted caramel and chocolate cup cakes are very good but too sweet. The shop is small but the welcome is really great.

Atrocious bakery and staff. They absolutely messed up a cake we ordered in the colour to reveal the gender of our newborn. Like the most important moment was ruined as they got the colour wrong. The cake was thrown. When we reported it, all the bakery manager did was shrug, without an apology, and would not offer any compensation. There is no contact phone # to coordinate anything. DO NOT rely on them for important events or any important cakes. They are simply unprofessional.

After wandering around the market all day I spotted this lovely bakery. I was seeking carrot cake and they did not disappoint! I chose a slice instead of a cupcake of carrot cake. The staff were so sweet. I was given a HUGE slice. The cake itself was one of the best triple layer carrot cakes I have ever tasted. Honestly all their cakes were beautiful. Next time I’m having a slice of the gorgeous rainbow cake! I love this bakery.

Awful, Google states they close at 6pm, their own website states 5.30pm. Got to the store at 5.18pm, was told that they're closed. How can you not know what opening hours are displayed on your own website. Made a trip especially to buy cupcakes, let down by incompetent company run by imbeciles.

I’m definitely not a fan of cupcakes, but then, I took one at The Hummingbirds bakery, and it was DELICIOUS, not kidding, it’s amazing.

Specifically went in store to make a custom order of an 8inch cake with pink base and white writing. Assumed the pink buttercream would be the same shade as the cakes displayed online. On picking the cake up it looked as if a child had decorated it. Poorly finished, the shade of pink was so pale the white lettering wasn't legible. On top of that there were grammatical errors in the message which I had been very specific about the phasing of. Not the best of customer service either, won't be going back to this branch again. Not what you expect when paying that kind of money for a cake. Extremely disappointed.

Got a 6 inch Birthday Cake. Not many options to choose from if you want to just walk in and not pre-order in advance. Only the red velvet was available. The cake was way too sweet for my taste. I felt it was over priced, as CakeBox does the same size cake (much tastier and less sweet) for about £20 lesser. Not going back.

Loved this bakery and the cakes were fantastic. This is the 2nd time I visited HBB, the first one being back in 2016 up in Richmond. The Red Velvet and the Salted Caramel cupcakes were great; perfectly moist and the toppings were beautiful. Only thing stopping the 5 star review is the cost. Fantastic cakes but it's not the cheapest. Definitely worth a visit to indulge, mind.

Ordered the easter cake and gluten free easter cupcakes from here for a family get together to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday. We picked them up from the portobello branch without any issues and the cakes looked amazing - everyone was really impressed. The cake tasted great too and apparently the gluten free cupcakes were great and not too dry like most gluten free cakes. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the cake was a bit dense in my opinion, and would have been perfect if it were a bit lighter, but overall we were really pleased! Thank you!!

I've ordered online birthday cake Red Velvet to be delivered to a workplace. The delivery window was 10 to 6 pm so I was worried about the time but it was delivered in the morning which I was very happy about. The cake itself was perfect. It looked great and was delicious. Everyone was really happy with it. I will happily order from them again. Thank you Hummingbird!

What an amazing place. The staff is amazing, friendly service with a smile. The young lady at the counter gave me free cupcakes 🧁. Will definitely recommend this place for tea ☕️ and cupcakes.

I haven’t been here for 5 years due to moving away, so upon moving more locally again I decided to revisit as I used to love it and visit various branches regularly. I couldn’t get enough of the red velvet! The gentleman in the shop was upbeat and friendly, cannot fault him at all. However, the prices were only just worth the old prices I remembered them being but now the quality does not match the steep cost. £5.45 for a slice of red velvet cake £6.10 for a few others!) that was dense and very much on the dry side is pretty poor. A 10 second blast in the microwave on the defrost setting improved it marginally but there’s no real reason freshly baked, fully frosted, covered and cut to order cakes should be dry. The issue seems to be with the recipe, or not being as fresh as they may seem. I always remembered the cupcakes being better than the slices, I suppose this was where I went wrong. I’ll come back to try the cupcake version again and probably a slice of the mile high cake as it looks fantastic but if they’re a similar quality to todays red velvet slice I don’t suspect I’ll be tempted to return again.

What a delicious bakery. Hadn’t lost its touch throughout the years. Pity there was no coffee available, to complement the cake. The raspberry and cream cake was delicious, perfect texture, heavier than a sponge but not too heavy, flavours blended perfectly together. Icing classical sweetness of this bakery, very rich. It’s a lovely pick me up treat. The shop was very clean, staff was very polite. Great price.

I am so disappointed. I used to buy red velvet cakes from them and were lovely, but not the one last week. I went there on Sunday, service was really good and the cake looked lovely so I left happy. Unfortunately cake turned out to be super dry inside and oversweet on the outside. I think it was at least three days old. I expected better from £60 cake!! I will never risk it again. Even the 'human hoovers' in my family didn't like it and they eat everything , I'm super sad as it was supposed be special birthday for my boyfriend

I have not been here in years…and wanted that delicious Red velvet cupcake that I remembered…but I was truly disappointed. I bought the £3:40 vegan version…and oh my days was it sweet!!! Did I just put a lump of sugar in my mouth. The ratio between sponge cake and cream cheese was off!! It was not balanced for my liking. The staff in store were lovely and I would go again but I will try something else.

I paid for a birthday cake that was not delivered at home as agreed and paid for. It was a birthday cake!!! The offered solution was to collect from one of its shops - far away from place the day after! No refund policy or a voucher to use another day for a cake. When I spoke with the customer service they replied that this is the company policy. If you don't want to ruin any birthday celebration. Stay away from this company. Extremely disappointing.

Really the very highest quality cakes and cupcakes. They also cater for vegans and gluten free and do personalised orders would recommend.

First time I have used HB. Ordered a birthday cake for my grandson to be collected at Portobello Road on day of birthday party. Didn’t risk delivery as not convinced it would be delivered on time. But got a message to say that collection would be delayed, which was worrying. My son went to collect and was met by a rude server who couldn’t be bothered to check the order. I had ordered a card with a message which was not there and she brusquely told my son to pick any blank one. I understand the manager apologised for the behaviour, which is something, I suppose. The cake itself was OK but certainly not worth reordering, even if we had received decent service. I won’t be using HB again.

I’ve ordered from here for two important birthdays and both orders were totally messed up. The first cake was like a child had made it and the second order was completely lopsided. To top it off, the customer services department were completely unhelpful, rude and not willing to compensate. I spent a total of £150 and will never be buying from HBB again. Avoid this bakery and all associated branches. 0/5 stars.

We went there on a recommendation looking for a gift to bring home to grandma, ended up leaving with two Red Velvet cupcakes and an Eton Mess one (which we already ate). It was amazing! Thank you so, so much to the woman who took the time to listen to us and help us pick and package the cupcakes so they wouldn't get damaged during our flight home. I was so disappointed when they told me there were no vegan options in there. Such a famous place specialised in cupcakes, not giving even a single choice for vegans. Whole Food, for comparison, has a huge selection with minimum five different kind of vegan cupcakes, also suitable for lactose intolerants.

I absolutely love this bakery. Their cakes are really soft and moist, tasty frosting, and the slice you get for the price and quality is just amazing! My favourite is the rainbow cake. The cupcakes are delicious as well, my favourite are the vanilla ones! The staff are also feally friendly and nice ☺️ 100% recommend 🧁

Le cupcake red velvet est incroyable ! Première fois que j'en goûtais et je n'ai pas été déçue. Les prix ne sont pas excessifs pour de si bonnes pâtisseries. Je rejoins certains avis : c'est dommage qu'il n'y ait pas de quoi s'asseoir. En revanche, l'emballage est fait avec soin et nous avons pu les déguster sans souci le soir même.

I ordered from here 2x times. Red velvet cake was nice, anyway everythings else was too sugary, the cakes, cupcakes…look mouth watering but taste wise it’s more like sugar on top of sugar instead of having really great taste.

We had a very enjoyable time on our visit. The coffee was excellent, the pastries were delicious, and the rainbow cake was the best.

I am familiar with the hummingbird brand and so was looking forward to trying the perfectly formed cupcake. They were dry, stale and heavily salted. Even though there were 4 staff and two customers it took a long time to be served. I feel the money was spent on packaging and definitely not in light and fresh produce. I would not recommend stopping in here. Perhaps pre-order is better.

Why doesn't Hummingbird Bakery have a phone number or at least an email customers can contact to? Absolute nightmare trying to make changes to my order. I ordered online without making an account on their website and there was just absolutely no way to make any changes without physically going to the shop !! And the icing on my cake was done sloppily

Compact shop selling sweet yumminess! It was too cramped when visiting on weekends so had to select, pay and go because it really just not much space to move around if more people wanting to get inside. You can tell their cupckes are fresh just by tasting them, cakes are fluffy soft and frosting is sweet and smooth. Must visit if you are visiting the Portobello Market.

I ordered a cake plus cupcakes from Hummingbirds for a colleagues Birthday. There had already been some issues that had made me unhappy with the service, but nothing prepared me for what came nexted! On the day of the Birthday the supposed order arrived at the office…..some one collected and took it to be prepared when it was realized that the cupcakes arrived..BUT NO BIRTHDAY CAKE!!! The joke is there are no telephone numbers to contact them on only email so in short nothing I could do to sort it out. To say I am upset is an understatement. I never ever expected to have such a terrible experience at such a place. It is safe to say I will NEVER be purchasing anything from the company again nor will a number of others.

After many attempts of trying to get the opportunity to visit the Hummingbird bakery with my daughter we finally made it. 26/8/21 We entered the cute store and was served by a lovely young lady behind the counter. Looking at the cupcakes on display, I wasn't blown away by their presentation, but I thought with all the hype they must be amazing! So I ordered a chocolate hazelnut and a caramel biscuit to take away. When we finally arrived home we had half each and was very underwhelmed by the taste of both! The chocolate one was very dry and overly sweet but not very chocolatey. The caramel one was very heavy almost like bread and not much better! We were so disappointed with how they tasted. It was as if they were made days before because they most certainly weren't fresh! I am someone that actually bakes cupcakes and I have never eaten anything like that before now. I have had cupcakes from another well known company and their cakes have been incredibly moist and full of flavour! Not sure if all your stores are like this but Notting Hill was not doing anything good to my palate I"m afraid. Sorry to have write this but I'm not going to lie just for the sake of it. These cakes aren't cheap and therefore I'm expecting quality for the money.

I can't remember last time I had their red velvet, and the memories were so good. I finally came back, and It didn't disappoint. It's so soft, not too sweet, so delicious!!! Amazing red velvet, probably my favorite I've tried in London. We also had a Nutella cupcake and that was pure heaven. Also, staff was really lovely and we got a beautiful tote bag 😍

I had few time a taste of their cupcakes that I found really nice. So for my daughter's fifth birthday I thought why not make her a plate with some assorted cupcakes but then I saw their rainbow cake and decided to take it instead. Well to be honest with you I wouldn't have mind to paid that much for the cake if it was delicious.... BUT it wasn't! The layer where dry, the cake was dry like out of freshness. It was disappointing because my daughter didn't like it that much. I'am not a big fan of cake but don't mind having a nice slice of quality cake. So to us it was disappointing. Next birthday I will make homemade cake instead.

Just bought a slice of their famous carrot cake. Was okay, but as noted by other customers, too sweet. £4.95 for a small take-away slice is really way too expensive for what it is. Unfriendly staff. Won't come again.
