Attitude of staff is pathetic. They don’t honour reservations. Very poorly managing tables. Food is not authentic in anyways and tastes crap Plates are not even cleaned properly

Terrible service from staff. They couldn't respect guests, making them stand out in the cold due to less space, even though there was ample room (ended up waiting outside for 45 min for a very small order). Food tastes terrible as well, not having the authentic Indian taste. The only Indian taste of the restaurant were the chips, which were not even fried and had the same consistency of a potato curry.In total, ONE OF THE WORST PLACES TO DINE, PLS DONT COME TO THE RESTAURANT. It's unfit for it's name

Very polite and friendly staff. The food was delicious. I had fried fish with sag rice, it was amazing. My husband had a biriyani, also very good. The prices are also good. We will be back. Thank you.

Probably 1 of the dishes we have ever tasted after years of trying many many dishes all over the country. The Captain Pathil is unique and completely delicious. Prompt service, very welcoming. Food is outstanding. Will definitely visit again when next on the Island.

This is the 2nd time we've been here and it hasn't disappointed! The food was lovely, the staff were very attentive, they couldn't do enough for us! Will definitely be back the next time we are in the Isle of Wight, make sure you go and eat there if you can, such a nice place

We got our meal delivered to the holiday park at Wroxall. Ordered over the phone and spoke to a very nice guy. Food was very good and delivered at the time we asked. Liked it so much we did it again a few days later.

The food here is incredible, probably the best chicken dansak I have ever had, will definitely be back.

this was absolutely awful and a complete waste of money.if ur brown and can taste food do not come here.the only taste that I enjoyed was the when it was hot.everything has a disgusting sickening hint of sweetness.the absolute mockery of having a halal restaurant but serving endless alcohol really shocks me.do better with ur money and do not waste a penny on this absolute atrocity of “desi food” it’s like eating something a white person cooked (no offence) completely bland with no flavourings. Do not recommend at all. Service was also awful.

Misleading reviews or could be paid reviews. Avoid. Not the food that they claim. Not even close to the food that we get on the mainland. Please don't spoil the name of the cuisine.

Greeted as a walk in, served very quickly and delicious poppadoms to start. Saturday night so the atmosphere was lovely. More customers kept coming in so it’s obviously popular. Friendly and attentive waiting staff, the manager was very pleasant engaging with all tables. I had a korma and peshwari naan, partner had captain panthil. Excellent amount of meat within the dish, lots of sauce too! If we had time, I would have ordered a few sharing starters but we were in a rush due to car trouble. I would happily come here again.

Very poor service, I would have given less than one if possible. Missing item in our food n quality of the food was very poor, felt nauseous after consuming food. Avoid in all conditions.

Very disappointing, I am giving Zero for Everything. Food quality was less than poor, missing a food item and naan we ordered was worse than poppadom, massive holes in them. .Please avoid at all cost.

Me and my partner visited Shanklin went out for meals at the house of spice the food was so yummy and service was great friendly staff back again soon 5 stars

During our first meal, everything was okay. It got worse on our second visit. No napkins on the table. The waiter gave us paper napkins instead of cloth napkins as expected and presented on the other tables. Error in taking the order (chicken served instead of lamb) upon our complaint, the waiter brought the plate back and came back with a lamb dish different from that ordered. The duck curry my friend ordered was dry and way overcooked. In short, this was all very disappointing.

Didn’t had a good experience. 1) First of all, this is not an Indian restaurant, this is a Bangladeshi restaurant. But these people run in name of India. 2) Food is not at all up to Indian standard taste. 3) Ambience would have been much better. Not at all recommended.

1. Very little salt in food. No taste in the food. Onions not cooked. The chicken was red but it was colored and not spicy. 2. They call themselves house of spice but none of the food items were spicy or tasty to say the least. 3. Nan was pretty average. 4. Jeera rice was full of some yellow colour and so much oil. Suggestion to the owner: Dont spoil the name of Indian food. Call yourself bangladeshi restaurant. Or Get an Indian cook. Don't fool the British people and the British tourists who visit the town and look for Indian food. Additionally the songs played were awful. Please change your playlist.

All generally good, nice food, staff were good, not much atmosphere as we were only customers, it was 9pm on a Monday. Let me have a Kingfisher glass for my collection which was good of them.

I and my mates went to do dinner in there . The food was horrible. Was not taste in there . I order chappti (Indian bread) that was so dry no butter on it. And all the dishes were full of coriander and turmeric . And there were no napkins on our table and when i asked she bring 4 and we were 7 people and we order coke and was not cold at all . I won’t recommend anyone going and eating there .. Horrible service and food

Food quality is not up to mark, naan is not properly cooked and also find plastic bag inside naan. If you do complain to staff they give us very rudely answer with arrogance attitude. Plz visit carefully

Visiting after 5 years, food was great.

We specifically asked the waiter to make our food spicy, as per Indian food it might be okay because all Indian restaurants I have been have to, doesn’t seem to have any spice as for south Asian taste. But then even when we asked to make it super spicy, it was totally plain. Chips were fried in old oil, it had weird taste, biryani was tasteless and chicken tikka looked reddish but it was full of onions. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone who wants to have good spicy tasty food.

It was the worst food i have tasted in my entire life . I am sorry to say this. As a customer who paid and waiting to fill my tummy the taste was sweet (chicken biryani ). I guess it was the only restaurant named house of spice without the spices in the dishes.

Had a delivery order from The House of Spice. The service was brilliant, the person I spoke to on the phone was very helpful, clear and concise. The food arrived very quickly and was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend 😊

On our first visit to the Isle of Wight, we decided to try out House of Spice for a curry night. I have to say, the quality of the food pleasantly surprised me. Each dish was delicious, with rich flavours and perfectly balanced spices that truly impressed us. The depth of flavour in every bite was remarkable, showcasing a masterful blend of spices and fresh ingredients. Each mouthful was a delightful experience, leaving us thoroughly satisfied with the taste. However, the portions were smaller than what I usually expect from restaurants. Coupled with the fact that the prices were quite high, it left me feeling that the meal, while fantastic, wasn’t entirely worth the money. The food-to-cost ratio was a bit disappointing. Overall, I’d still recommend House of Spice for the exceptional taste, but be prepared for the smaller portions and higher prices. If you're after a culinary treat, it's worth a visit, but keep the cost in mind.

The Paneer Tikka masala and Chicken Tikka curry both had the same gravy base and they both were sweet in taste, the family didn't like it. Also the gravy was like red in color, dont think it came from any of the natural ingredients. The take away parcel was ready within the mentioned time though.

Having read other reviews thought it was worth a try. Did not blow my socks off tbh. Bland. Fairly expensive. One course each. Poppadum and a drink each 50 quid....

Been there for birthday dinner. Customer service is very bad. Wait there for 2 hours after finished the dinner we had to ask for napkins even! Manager even didn’t apologised for this. Really disappointed. No recommended at all.

Decent food but found bones in food that was supposed to be boneless and when I called back I got rude response silly little git needs to learn how to cook the muppet spent about 100£ silly cows

The BEST Indian iv ever had! Iv had Indian curry from high end places in London and all over Essex. But the house of spice is the best iv ever had. So much so that last year I had to call them and tell them just how delicious the takeaway was that I had collected from them. And again today, while visiting the island on holiday, we've had an outstanding takeaway. And to top it off the people working there are always so so lovely. We always crave the house of spice when we're back on main land and always look forward to ordering when we're revisiting. 1000% 5 star rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Just amazing. Went for small trip to isle of wight and google recommended us this place. We had butter chicken, lamb biryani, chicken tawa and alo paratha. All the dishes were amazing.

Really great food and great service. Definitely worth a visit. We don’t eat meat but the fish and veggie options were brilliant, tandoori prawns were tasty and the tarka dhal was very very good, we eat and make a lot of dhal and it was up there with the best!

The food is amazing. By far the best biryani I've had. Beers are ice cold. Friendly helpful staff.

Lovely staff great food with a good service

House of Spice Shanklin, I was not impressed at all. Place is little dingy probably last updated 20 years ago. Guy I think the owner was in shorts and T shirt. Does not give a good impression, tables could do with a good clean. Floor was a little sticky Service was little slow even though the place was not full. We had 4 Papdoms, did not ask for condiments but we were served with Mango Chutney, chopped onions and yougart with some mint. Mains: Chicken Jailfrezi, Brinjal vegetable, 3 plain Nan, butter Chicken and plain boiled rice. To Drink: 2 -J2O and one Fenta. No Sweets. Hand written bill that has been overwritten on several places to £ 73.00 I was trying to work in my head as it seems excessive but the chap stood with a machine asking us to pay. We payed but they will not allow us to take hand written bill. It does not require a calculator to add bill. They overcharged by over £10. Back in my hotel I mentioned that to the hotel owner and one of the guests. They had similar experience. Q- why curry restaurants write bill by hand and do not let customer have that copy? Q- Why suddenly they started charging for condiments? If they are going to charge they should make it clear to customer. I would have had only one dish-Mango Chutney. Others were not worth it. Food was average to reasonable 6/10. But the above meant we would avoid going there again. And drive few miles to another place. Nans were good. Jailfrezi reasonable. Brinjal below average, Butter chicken was what we wanted for kids. But Ambient ??

The food was not as expected. It was so oily and such a little portion for what we paid. The samosa was the worst but not as worst as being served yoghurt with slices of cucumber and calling it a raita. Utterly disappointed 🙁.

The food was exquisite. Absolutely delectable. Service 10/10. Mr Rasheed constantly made an effort to engage with his customers and was intentive. He is an extremely friendly person. The atmosphere was inviting. 90s Bollywood music played in the background wrapping my ears in bliss and serenity. Overall this is a MUST visit restaurant; I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Food was amazing. My parents enjoyed the Bangladeshi fish curry and I found the butter chicken delicious. The restaurant manager and staff were very professional, friendly and welcoming. Fantastic food and service- best dinner to finish on our last night on the island.

An average curry experience, the vegetable curry didn’t seem fresh and caused an upset stomach for the family the following morning. The mint based lamb curry was listed as a house speciality, it was average.

Been going here for a while now, however tonight’s takeaway was disappointing. The food is no way near as good as it used to be :( going to have to find somewhere else.

This is an amazing place friendly staff and great value for money the food is amazing 1st time eating here and would recommend it 100%. Can not wait to return back. If you are on holiday here and love Indian food then visit here you will not be disappointed

One of the best curries I have ever had. Chicken Captain Pithal, no I haven't seen it before either but was full of flavour and delicious. Very good value too.

The tastiest food on this side of the land

Firstly, we weren't even half way through our Poppadoms before the main courses arrived! It isn't often review stars are reduced for a restaurant being too speedy, but the waiter should've been able to see we were still in the middle of eating our Poppadoms with chutney etc and brought our main causes out regardless. Being a veggie, I was intrigued by the 'Mushroom Saag Masala'. Unfortunately it was barely edible. Pieces of carrot and green beans were undercooked and the mushrooms had an odd aftertaste (and were extremely spicy). The name was misleading - the dish came with no creamy Masala sauce and was way too spicy to even resembly a sauce-less Masala! We also had a veggie Korma - that was nicer; although nothing special (and no potatoes in it although that may not be everybody's thing!)

Best Indian on the island. Wife is Indian so we asked for everything spicy. They didn't disappoint. Staff friendly, and very accommodating of children. Lovely vibe and food was amazing. Highly recommend the chicken chatt on puree as a starter.

Food was okay, wouldn't compare to an proper indian restaurant for taste. Atmosphere and service was great. It was very busy though and needed reservations on Sunday evening.

Superb meal at house of spice. Every since part of this meal was the best Indian meal out I have had in years. The food was superb, delicious and a great fair price. The service was fantastic and if I lived on IOW I would use this Indian all the time. I never leave reviews, but so impressed I wanted to give this place the praise it deserves. 10/10

We ate here this evening and happy to say the food was a fantastic as it was the first time we came 8 years (when the place was called ‘Purple Mango’ (which is still the name shown in the ceiling decoration in the centre of the restaurant)). Lots of choice and amazing specials. Hope we will be back soon.

Delicious curries, unbelievable amount of choice. There are a lot of veggie options too. The service we received was top notch too! It would of been amazing if there was a draft beer option but understand that's not always possible!

We had a terrible takeaway on a Sunday night so I’m guessing the main chef was off for the night. The meals we had were bland no spice even though I asked for extra heat. The chicken in the Cormas had purple and red bits inside them and was very pink. Such a shame as it was very expensive.

Really delicious food and great customer service with beautiful aesthetics, best curries on the island, it's the go to place.

Worst dining experience we ever had!!! Really bad food and rude staff.. we have been to some other Indian restaurants in the island, but find this one as the worst restaurant!!! Food quantity is very low.. when you order a roti/nan, you get the smallest ever roti in the world. Normally when you order Nan in other restaurants, you either get couple as a set or a bit bigger one, here you won’t even believe someone can serve this small size.. Also, we have ordered tikka masala and butter chicken, both tasted the same!!!!!! Not sure if they have tried these dishes from any other restaurants!!!! Also, staff are extremely rude!!!! Don’t listen to anything the customer says..one of them even said this is how it’s there!! There are other nice restaurants in the island and I think staff from here go and watch what they are doing there Will never recommend anyone to this restaurant!!! Total waste of money and awful experience!!!! Cannot even say how bad it was!!! Worse ever dining experience

5 star food,5 star service.1 of the best currys i have had in long time.

Just had an amazing King prawn Madras, spice levels spot on and plenty of king prawns. Best curry I have had in years.

Enjoyed our meal, curries were spicy but not too hot. Lots to choose from on the menu. We'll visit again when returning to the Isle of Wight.

Called in on the off chance of getting a table, staff were very accommodating even though they were so busy. Food was excellent, service was very good, toilet was spotless. Would definitely go back when I'm back in Shanklin.
