The Hound Inn in Copeland

We called tlthe hound inn @ 11pm after getting stuck in a snow drift in the area. Caroline the barmaid called us back and welcomed us to the pub. We met the owner Pete and he was hilarious. Gave us endless chat and entertainment for the evening. Wonderful local friendly bub highly recommended

Been years since i was in the Jerry. The pubs name in the locality. My dad helped his friend out in the 80s behind the bar The food was outstanding and didn’t break the bank.. can’t understand why it wasn’t-packed out.. but i like it quiet One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in years It won’t be long till I’m back and I’ll be recommending to all my friends. 10/10

Didn’t eat, but the staff welcoming and very friendly , I would come here again and would have no issue trying the food.

Staying nearby so booked a meal as the bar was dog friendly. Had an excellent bar meal lovely mince pie, teenage son loved his burger. Friendly owner/staff. Not really a tourist pub but the locals were very friendly. Jennings bitter was spot on. Proper pub.

Just been to our local for Sunday lunch and have to say never fails to disappoint it was lovely and as i don't eat veg they offered me extra potatoes food was gorgeous and staff as always friendly and pleasent would highly reccomend

We went here a few weeks ago and was that good we go every week now . It’s really good if any body works shifts as they serve till 3.45 pm , it is advisable to book if your going later as they stop serving if they run out of meats they have a good selection of sweets and always have my favourite garlic mushrooms and a couple of different soups/ broths, 10/10 for me in a little village pub .

Very tasty meal. Plenty of veg. 2 courses small portion is £ 7.50 . Large meals are not expensive either. Very good value. The lamb was delicious and my mother had ham. All very tasty. We will visit again. The pub was recommended. But we use to visit when the carriage was the dining room. That was along time ago. The meals have not changed in quality. Still excellent. The drinks were very reasonable price too. The staff which make it very excellent. Book a table is advisable.

We decided to go to this dog friendly pub for Sunday Lunch, reserved a table not a problem. The host was very welcoming and the service was outstanding. The price of the meal was very good. The food was plentiful. Thank you for been such a great host.

Visited this establishment earlier this evening to be met by dogs wandering about. One began to growl but was quitened by a guy sat at the bar and so they weren't a problem. We asked if we'd be able to eat since it's well noted as a place for good food, but for some unknown reason we were told that they weren't doing food this evening. We were offered the option of having a take away brought in to which we declined. We drank our drink and left. Didn't feel particularly welcomed and since we're visitors to the area the oppotunity for a good first impression is lost.

Have eaten here on a Sunday, I don't normally like Sunday Lunchs anywhere other than home but have to say this was very very nice. I just went for the normal size, the hubby had large size, we both went for the deal where you can have extra courses. Very good value. My choice of meat was not available and they were so apologetic. Also very dog friendly which is great for us.

We visited over the Easter weekend with our Jack Russell(Jack)and really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and great pub food on offer. Michelle the owner was fantastic and very welcoming. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area Thanks again Michelle and sorry we missed the egg smashing-we were both knackered especially after the Sunday Dinner Thanks Mat Kate & Jack

We have a lovely home cooked meal on Saturday night very big portions and very filling cont complain at all about the service we received. Staff was very friendly and very very friendly dogs that loved having a belly rub. Until next time x Ps love the ladies toilet seat lol x

We have been visiting the Hound with our two children after walks in the Lakes for many years and we are always warmly welcomed. Nothing is too much trouble for Michelle and staff and even our dog Rex gets VIP treatment with treats! Great food, great atmosphere, great beer garden (for when it does sunshine in Cumbria!) and always worth the visit.

Stopped in the area for the weekend and visited here for food on Friday and Saturday night. Both meals were excellent. My husband commented on how he can't imagine them selling many desserts as the portìons are so big. Very good value. Would definetly return if we were in the area again.

My partner and i have just left after a short break to whitehaven and surrounding areas with our two dogs, we called at the hound inn after being told they were dog friendly and did excellent food, we were not dissapointed. We were greeted at the door by four wonderful dogs who were very keen to engage with ours, food was real home cooked classics and the pies are to die for, michelle the owner is very welcoming and we are already planning our next trip back.

Just spent 5 days visiting the area,called at the Hound Inn and was greeted at the door by 4 lovely dogs!,if you go try the pies the best I’ve had anywhere and I love my pies!!,also a lovely warm greeting from the landlady Michelle,will definitely call again next time we are in the area 😊😊

Quiet pub for locals with owners aggressive dogs Cold atmosphere when we walked in. Seems more like a local pub for local people than a family friendly pub. We had only just walked through the door when the owners two terriers attacked our dog leaving her with 2 puncture bite holes under her chest. Our dog was on her lead and was very well behaved (she is a mountain rescue search dog) As we were leaving the owner said sorry and explained that it only happened because we came in to their domain (A public room in a pub) they then pointed to a poorly displayed A4 notice outside with small writing, which apparently explains their issue with their dog-aggressive dogs, the notice looked more like a letter. They claim to be dog friendly, I would suggest that you do not take your dog here as the owner's dogs roam off their lead and clearly attack every dog which comes in to the pub, hence their need for a notice. Unbelievable.

We would not recommend this place. Went for dinner tonight after reading some good reviews on here and noticing that the pub advertised as being dog friendly.

We have used this inn now on three separate occasions visiting the western lakes. Both the owners and locals are all friendly and the pub serves great beer and food. This time we booked for a fantastic Sunday lunch and have to say it was worth every penny. Hopefully we shall be back in the spring.

Ordered the home made pie and the portion was enormous but the veg that came with it was excellent too, big portions and not badly priced either

Stayed in the area for two nights and both times ate here. The pub is welcoming and very friendly. Food is fantastic ! Freshly cooked from an extensive menu. Would we go again ? - Yes in a heartbeat.

El Hound fue recomendado por el dueño de Rowrah Hall y no nos decepcionó.

I've recently moved to this area and decided to try it out for a teatime pint, well...... to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement, the staff were very welcoming and the landlord and landlady were great and all of the locals I met were friendly and willing to have a general chat. I shall definitely be calling in again.

Great traditional roast dinner here today and very friendly staff and owners. They opened early for us to watch the football and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back.

Have eaten here now on my last two holidays in the lakes, and would recommend this pub without hesitation. Food is always nice as well as the beer, and both the locals and the owners are all friendly and make for a great visit. We will be back in October, many thanks.

Went for dinner with family ordered 4 different meals all were hot and very appetising. Service was excellent. Prices are very reasonable. Will definately return.

I have eaten here on several occasions and continually wonder why it is not always busy. The food here is extremely good - a wide variety of choices with 3 vegetarian dishes on the regular menu and, last time I went, 2 more on the specials board. If the accompanying vegetable, salad or potato options are not to your liking these are happily changed. The portions are very generous and prices are reasonable. There is a restaurant area, or you can eat in the bar if you have a dog with you. Beer wise you can get a very good pint of hand pulled Jennings. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Sky Sport and BT Sport are available.

We were staying in the area and advised to go here for dinner. So glad we did. We went two nights running, and couldnt have been welcomed more, by the owner, the staff and even the locals. Clyde the dog was beautiful and so friendly.I cant recommend this place enough - I wish our local was as friendly and welcoming

My partner and I decided to try The Hound Inn on a recommendation. We were so pleased we stopped.Quiet and not very busy but it was early on a Tuesday evening. The food was excellent and cooked to a very high standard and plenty of food.The restaurant itself is very clean and modern with a pleasant atmosphere.Thank you!

Went to this pub with relatives from USA. It was near our accommodation ( Rowrah Hall ).We were mad to feel very welcome and the staff were friendly and nothing seemed too much for any of them. Service was excellent and the food even better. Lasagna , fish and chips, footage pie and Cajun chicken were nicely prepared and served. We had a wonderful time in the restaurant but the atmosphere at the drinks place could do with a little sprucing up . Would recommend the place highly for a meal

Living in a city full of bars and big pubs where you never see the same people in twice, what a breath of fresh air it was to spend two nights in the Hound this weekend. This is a lovely authentic country pub, where the locals and landlady Michelle will make you feel welcome and treat you like a friend rather than a passing tourist. The food is also good value for money with large portions. The landlady's four dogs are very friendly with everybody too and well behaved. Definitely a great place for dog lovers. Will look forward to returning next year.

If you are from a city and miss a local pub were you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door you need to come to this pub. I came as a newly wed and loved the place the landlady Michelle was a great host and the locals talk to you like the have known you a life time. If you are a dog lover she will welcome your dog's even if your a dog lover without dogs hers are around and love the attention. Is one of the best pubs I've been to and becouse of this I have now planned to visit the area at least 3 times a year. Thankyou and you locals for a relaxing evening. Was amazing. Xx

Having just moved to the area I was thrilled when I duscovered this little gem.A warm friendly pub that serves traditional pub grub very reasonsly priced with monster homemade pies.Stunning fell views beer garden even free toiletries in the ladies for the walkers to freshen up. Dog friendly always a bonus.I'll be a regular!

Me and my partner dropped in for an evening meal - the menu selection was good and both starters and main course were lovely - great selection of booze and lovely friendly staff.Owner has a few dogs which happily wander the pub after meal times and this gave the place a homely feel - the animals were very well behaved - will definitely go back and recommend to friends

The food was really very good, all freshly cooked to order. Proper home made chips, good sized portions, we were all happy with our meals. One thing to note is that food service can finish early if the dining is quiet - so it might be worth ringing ahead if you are planning on turning up at anywhere near last orders for food.

The food here is excellent and the menu is extensive! We called here because it was handy, but we were not disappointed! There were six of us, and it was a short notice visit, but everything was wonderful! The food was beautifully cooked, and the service was excellent! Nothing was too much trouble! I would recommend to anyone!

Been to the hound inn a few times. Went on Sunday 6th December for sunday dinner. Great atmosphere,staff are lovely & nothing is to much trouble. The food is just delicious. I had lamb sunday dinner & the lamb was just so tender. The amount you get on the plate is sufficient! I struggled a little towards the end but wasnt willing to waste such lovely food. I will return as & when i can. Well worth a visit! Unfortunately i didn't take a photo as i was so hungry!

Conservatory area warm and welcoming, looked like the inside of a marquis. Ideal, to keep the heat level comfortable. Views over the fields and nice to see the livestock and the Fells. Food Excellent. Plenty of fresh vegetables served and catered for dietry needs, allergies. Waitress service, very helpful and obliging. I was very impressed by the standard of food, the quality, the price was well worth it and affordable. We have been to 3 local eating venues in the past 2 weeks and this is the best. Anyone would be made welcome.

We was stopping localy and was recomrnded this establishment for its food. We was not disappointed. We chilled outside with a bottle of ozzy wine and had a lovely meal to follow taking in the wonderful scenery. The the houst added a little touch in the ladies room. We fully recomenind this pub keep up the good work.

Staying at the nearby Rowrah Hall Guesthouse and walked up to the Hound for evening meal. Although the staff were friendly and welcoming the food was very disappointing. The rack of ribs was cooked in the microwave and the runny BBQ sauce poured over the top - even worse when it mixed in with the salad served on the side. Quantity was great, quality not so great.

We visited last night, the food is brilliant, very large portions. The staff are lovely and couldn't do any more to help. A really lovely experience and we will be back in there this evening.

We ate in here one Saturday evening. The atmosphere was nice and friendly. Although mainly locals, we felt very comfortable as "outsiders" and we're very welcome. The food was well cooked and plentiful. My son ordered a burger and he declared it the best he'd had - it was clearly home made, nice and succulent. All in all good value and a pleasant evening.

Fantastic place to eat, great food, great surroundings, friendly staff and locals, a perfect old style village pub/restaurant. Highly recommended! 5☆.
