The Hostess Restaurant in Mansfield

I haven’t been here for at least 30 years, the atmosphere was ok, but the meal was very average, and overpriced, the vegetables were very bland and unimaginative. As other people have commented, It felt like an old people’s home, in an 80’s time warp!

On the 27th July 2024 We had our wedding at the Hostess and what a wonderful amazing day it was one that me and my wife will never forget the hospitality of the staff was incredible from start to finish the food was absolutely delicious and delivered with absolute perfection 👌 We would like to thank Andrew and his wife for having us and making our day really special nothing was to much for them. Came here for Sunday dinner with family. After being recommended by my Aunt and Uncle as they go come here every Thursday and Sunday for dinner, we decided to join them for Sunday dinner with our 6 year old. Once seated our drinks orders were taken, and we had a look through the menu. A lovely young waitress noticed we had an our young daughter with us and gave us a child menu, we politely declined as our little one loves her food and will eat anything. We chose not to have starters apart from our daughter who requested the soup 😂 The soup was leek and potato, the waitress offered a child’s portion which we said yes. Upon arrival the soup was the perfect amount for our child and I tasted some it was absolutely delicious one of the best soups I have tasted. Our mains arrived shortly after, we chose from beef, gammon, and turkey between us. The Beef was one of the most tender beef I have ever tasted, my girls Gammon was very tasty, and not tough or chewy. The turkey was very delicious and not at all dry. The mash potatoes, roast potatoes, and vegetables came out in side dishes along with gravy. We asked for extra roast potatoes and gravy, all the potatoes and vegetables were very hot. The vegetables were carrots, peas and cauliflower cheese. My only downside was that there could have been more choice of vegetables, and the cauliflower cheese could have been better, as it looked like just cauliflower with cheese sauce poured on the top, but I’m not complaining as it was very hot when it arrived. We had puddings my girl had the ice cream always a win with and child. Two of us had the cheese board absolutely beautiful I did have to ask for a take away box for the rest of my cheese board as I was beyond full. One of our family had the lemon tart which they said was very nice and delicious. We shall definitely be returning.

Thank you so much to The Hostess for a wonderful 80th birthday party for my Mum. It was such a special time to share with family and friends. The meal was delicious in a homely atmosphere with friendly staff. Its the perfect venue for a fun evening or special occasion.

We have Just attended the Hostess for their New Years Eve Event - It was a Very well organized event, Great Food, Great Entertainment and a Lovely Atmosphere. A Wonderful way to End one year and Start the Next! The Staff and Management make a real effort to make sure everyone is happy and Enjoying themselves. The Hostess puts on Many events through the year and we will 100% be attending More this year

I've been to The Hostess numerous times before. Always been happy, good venue for any celebration. The food is amazing, lovely atmosphere & the owners & staff are very efficient, helpful & friendly. No waiting around for your food to arrive. If I were to have a teeny, tiny problem, it would be, as a person with mobility problems, I missed out on my coffee with my mince pie,as we had to fetch it ourselves, rather than have it served at the table.

This restaurant is great for any occasion, from your wedding reception to your funeral tea and anything else in between I have over the years enjoyed many wonderful meals both casual lunches to formal gatherings . The food is always prepared and cooked to perfection, the staff are always polite and helpful, Nea and Andrew have continued the traditions of the excellence of the previous owners. You cannot go wrong here, excellent food at competitive prices.

We visited this restaurant for my aunties birthday it seemed a little strange having to wait outside for the doors to open instead of letting people come in gradually. The bar staff were friendly and the selection of beer is very good and tasted nice. The restaurant reminded me of something from the 80s everyone sat on long tables. Service was a little back to front but the staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was ok, a little outdated though, I've not seen fan of melon on a menu for years ;) portion sizes good and the Stilton on the cheese course was very good. Not a bad place to visit, just needs a little modernisation, will visit again certainly

Found the amount of food i.e. meat was absolutely ridiculous, so much so we had to leave most of our dinner as totally overwhelming. Note to chef: when carving beef it should be sliced and not in lumps likewise with the turkey!!

Went for a carvery mid week and found it to be outstanding. The quality was excellent and far better than any of the “chains” around. Meat was quality, plenty of choice of veg too. They even doggy bagged my leftovers meat! Drinks were very reasonably priced too which topped off a great meal, we’ll be back.

This is a great place to go for a carvery. They are very generous with their meat portions, and it is delicious. The beef especially is amazing. It melts in your mouth. There is always a decent selection of vegetables, and everything they serve is piping hot. I wish they made thicker gravy, though. The service here is always outstanding, too. The staff are very professional and friendly. In my opinion this is the best carvery around.

We went on 27th July for my father's 91st birthday. We all had the carvery. However I had a vegan menu with vegetables from the carvery , my son had salmon and my partner a ham and chicken pie along with the carvery vegetables. There was also a good selection of Vegan sweets too. Staff are really really friendly. Definitely would go again. They also do Friday night disco with a 3 course meal.

We visited for Sunday Lunch to celebrate the Ruby Wedding Anniversary of visiting friends from the USA. The attention to detail by the staff at the venue was wonderful, they decorated the table with celebration sprinkles and balloons, and even prepared special menus for the event. The Sunday lunch type meal was excellent, served with a smile. Then after the meal we used the folly in the grounds to take some photographs. This was the icing on the cake. Excellent day.

A brilliant venue for a great night out . Last month we danced the night away at the Motown night and yesterday we enjoyed an evening of Murder Mystery which was great fun and of course you get an excellent three course meal . You really can't fault the atmosphere, staff, food, prices and entertainment.

Yes this place has dated decor but we loved it. It was clean and more importantly the food was fab, lots of it, and the service by the staff was excellent. There is a great feel to the place and the staff couldn’t do enough for you! It reminded me of the good old days of a dinner and disco venue. We want to have our Christmas do here. 10 out of 10!!

Andrew and the team did an exceptional job of making our wedding day truly magical! Our day at the venue was absolutely perfect. The room was turned round quickly and differently each of the three times. Nothing was too much trouble, service and all the staff were professional and friendly to us, my family and friends and created a seamless day throughout. In addition to the excellent service the food for both Wedding breakfast and evening meal was outstanding and again ran so smoothly. Had Sunday lunch here. We found the restaurant to have a lovely atmosphere with friendly and efficient staff. The staff were obviously well trained in Covid-19 safeguarding which which was reassuringly implemented. The food was very tastey and of excellent quality. We both had the 3 course option.

The Hostess is the only restaurant my wife and I would recommend to anyone The service is brilliant, the food is consistently very good. Others may try, the Hostess in our opinion gets it right every time.

Our 1st visit to The Hostess since they opened with new social distancing rules. We were not disappointed. The food and service were excellent as always. The menu had lots to choose from & was great value for money. The government guidelines re social distancing were implemented well, we felt safe and relaxed. Everything was really well organised & the staff explained the new way of being served etc.Well done everyone at The Hostess!5*

Thank you to all the staff at The Hostess even though we could no longer come and eat our mothers day meal there, our take out meals were amazing. You communicated with me through out and it was a very easy stress free process for us. A group of us girls from work attended a comedy dinner event , from start to finish the Fawlty towers/ only fools and horses sketch was brilliant with lots of laughter , great actors.Food served between every skit , starters delicious and served promptly and hot , mains lots of choice I had roast beef which was yummy , pudding (well I was full so did not eat all but was good . All in all a great night , thinking of doing another event later in year , maybe murder mystery . Big applause to all staff , very efficient

You sit in a sea of old people with a dated menu, dated decor, food was awful, I really don't understand how they get their reviews. It's an effective time machine though, takes you back to the 80's!

An excellent venue for any function. Comfortable and spacious with a warm friendly atmosphere. Very good range of buffet food with great choice and quantity. Special diets very well catered for with advance notice and vegans and coeliacs etc feel well included. Staff knowledgeable and caring towards special requests. Plenty of car parking and disabled facilities. Easy movement for wheelchairs. Excellent varied menus for lunchtime and evening family and solo visits also

myself and friends come to the restaurant at least twice a year theres a good atmosphere the food is second to none. the service we recievece is also exceptional we go back year after year.

This is such a brilliant restaurant. We go Christmas and New Year ( as well as loads of other times,) but at Christmas & New Year we book that night for the following year as it is so good, & it gets booked up so quickly.

Amazing food nice friendly and quite tasty looking waitresses decent entertainment and an all round enjoyable night

Food was good, I'm quite a picky eater and a vegetarian so I struggled to find things I liked but it wasn't bad food. Alcohol wasn't too expensive. The DJ was alright, mainly running from recommendations and would play a song after another that didn't flow nicely. Would be better if he'd had a plan with where he was going with the music (eg. New to old music) it was just a bit all over the place but was still a fantastic night.

As always excellent welcome, food and service. Looking forward to our next visit. We have visited the Hostess for over 45 years and never had a bad experience at all.

We always have a fantastic evening at the hostess, party night is amazing how they manage to serve such wonderful food for so many people is brilliant. The quiz , Balloons and disco gets the party going. My parents like it a like it a bit quieter so the bar area is great something for everyone , thank you so much see you again soon.

The Hostess keeps getting better,it serves great food,the staff are always pleasant and professional. The management team must take a lot of credit.It is the only place my wife and I would recommend to anyone.

Just had a wonderful Christmas meal. Been coming here every Christmas for the last 15 years, have never been let down by the staff or the food. Great service and a lovely menu. Thank you to all for always making it a memorable occasion.

Ladies Christmas get together. We’ve been here a few Christmas’s now and I’m not sure we will be back. This year just seemed very rushed each course straight after each other now time to take a breath. The food is average roast potatoes weren’t cooked and the gravy was like water. The older staff seemed very miserable and quite abrupt when asked them a question. The disco was ok.

It has been at least 20 years years since I have visited this restaurant and I must say it was like going back in time as it has not changed at all. I found it a little tired and in need of updating the Christmas decorations of the 1990. The food as I remember being first class but now only average. Not now a winner with me

Yesterday my wife & I, went to this restaurant, for Sunday lunch on the 3-11-19, again we wasn't disappointed. We have been going to Christmas parties for a number of years & few weeks ago went to a carvery. Now for a change went for a lunch. All the food was hot & tasty Service was good. Nothing to complain about.

Good choice of starter plenty of choice on carvery also good choice of sweet menu very good polite service and a pleasant atmosphere. Have been lots of times for Christmas menu which is always excellent. Will be going again.

Christmas party with meal, very good evening with work colleagues and friends. Four course meal was good and basic fare or christmas,Drinks average prices, some deals on certain bottles of wine. Disco and games for entertainment are fun if you participate.

Alright but nothing special. Standard buffet. Beer expensive at £4 a pint for what seemed to be keg beer, certainly not hand pumped

Went to the 80’s/90’s disco on Friday 20th September and it was brilliant. A really good night. 3 course meal included in ticket price which was absolutely fantastic food. Highly recommend for a great night out .

I attended this wedding ceremony with a group of friends & was very pleasantly surprised at the level of service provided! There was a great choice of menu, all beautifully cooked & presented - my meal was delicious . Service was very smooth & organised ....( I don’t know how they managed to serve so many people so quickly to such a high standard)

I have visited The Hostess on many occasions over the years but my cousin's recent wedding was the icing on the cake! They supported my cousin and her Fiance from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble. The main function room was transformed for the ceremony, it looked beautiful, we then followed the happy couple outside for photos whilst the room was quickly transformed for the meal, speeches etc. The attention to detail was spot on. The food....well we certainly didn't go hungry, plenty of choice and plenty of food, I personally couldn't fault the food, you really wouldn't be disappointed!

As a family favourite, The Hostess was the only venue we wanted to hold our wedding reception. After meeting Andrew, we discovered a license application had been made to hold civil wedding ceromonies onsite, so we booked our whole wedding with them, there and then!

Fabulous family wedding. The venue were there supporting our couple before during and after the wedding. Friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us all ! Food was amazing with so much choice at each course and all home made.

I recently attended a friend's wedding. The venue was beautiful, quick change around from ceremony to meal and finally to the evening reception but without compromising on high standards. The choice of food was exceptional and tasted stunning,ftiemdly service from everyone nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend

We recently attended the wedding of friends here at The Hostess. What a fantastic venue! The service was performed in a beautifully arranged room. We all followed the bride & groom outside afterwards for group photos. Back inside and the room was transformed for the wonderful wedding meal!! All served by helpful, polite & pleasant staff. The food was perfect. They made a special occasion superb! Would highly reccomend. We would give them 5*!

I was expecting this wedding venue to be better but I was disappointed in the staff but mainly the owner who wasn't much of a people person and wasn't very helpful. The venue itself could do with a bit of updating or redecoration and there's not many photo opportunities outdoors for wedding couples. The food was lovely though.

We had a wonderful time here. Family had all flown in and we had a lovely meal. No one hurried us. Service and food were great. Can’t think of anywhere better to have celebrated and they did menus printed with our picture on and balloons and sparkles. We have been here many times and the food is always great. Recommend their midweek carvery. Amazing choice.

We are organisers of a local group for people over the age of 50 years called 'nosh and natter'. We have been to the Hostess for a Christmas meal for the last two years and have all really enjoyed both the food and the entertainment. We are booked in again for this coming Christmas. Recently we organised a day out for the members and we asked the owners of the Hostess if they could provide us with afternoon tea. They agreed and we all enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. We would like to say a big thank you to the owners and the staff. They are so friendly and helpful. We look forward to seeing you again in December.

Just been for the first time for my parents' golden anniversary. What a fantastic lunchtime carvery. Very tasty and lots of it.

This was our first visit to the Hostess and came recommended by friends,the carvery meal was excellent and the beef and pork cooked to perfection (our compliments to the chef) a good choice of vegetables which were nice and hot,good yorkies and gravy~most important.The wine we felt was a little pricey but the red had been allowed to breathe and the white was nicely chilled but the bar prices were what you would expect to pay.All in all a very good evening and our thanks to all for making it an occasion to remember,we will be back. We visited as a large group for the meal and disco, large group of us over 20 in total, we were served quickly, food was delicious as alway and atmosphere brilliant. Absolutely recommend for large parties hostess never fails.

A lovely place to eat with family & friends. Staff cant do enough for you. They have some very good family shows on there. The food is gorgeous & have plenty to choose from. There is free parking outside.
