Literally the best Indian restaurant in and around Banbury

The food was very tasty but everything was covered in coriander which is not to my liking. I can understand it as a garnish but when it's on every dish in great quantities it's a bit much for me. Had chicken jalfrezi, mixed grill, pilau rice and garlic naan between two people, with wings and chilli prawns to start. The amount of food was plenty and we even had leftovers to take home. The price was over what I would expect to pay. The jalfrezi was about double the price you would pay from a takeaway or more traditional Indian restaurant and I'm not sure why. The atmosphere was nice and chilled and the service was impeccable so no complaints there. The pub itself is very quaint with a wood burning fire and Tudor beams which set the tone nicely. Overall, with a little tweak on pricing it's a very nice eating experience. You can get the same quality food locally for a good deal less too. 3.5 to 4 stars seems fair.

We travelled especially having heard so much about it from friends - it's a lovely pub and an Indian restaurant - the place lived up to all our expectations - warm welcome and excellent food - ate far too much but will most definitely return - compliments to the front of house and the chef

Quite a nice Indian restaurant/pub. The food wasn't the absolutely best I've eaten, but it certainly wasn't the worst, and you'd struggle to find better in the area. Really nice owners and staff, as well as a pub and bar in the front for drinks.

The new Indian kitchen serves up delicious food! And all the new staff are super helpful and friendly. The Goan fish curry is a real treat.

Overnight stay in Oxfordshire. Quirky & friendly village pub. Room basic, clean and cosy. Dinner was good, service great. Breakfast also very good.

Delicious Sunday roast. Friendly helpful staff. Very dog friendly. We took three well behaved dogs and that was not a problem. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful home from home, in pretty Milcombe. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped. The team are so warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The menu is delicious, with a great wine selection to accompany. Every meal I have had here has been delicious (I recommend the fish & chips and Thai Curry) and breakfast offers a great range of fresh produce, suitable for all tastes. Thoroughly recommend!

Popped in for an evening meal and would strongly recommend. Welcomed and offered a table in the snug- water bowl brought for our dogs and everything table service Menu was very good and varied- daily offers as well as a full menu Waitress spot on and explained she had tried the main my husband had chosen- like the idea the team know what the dishes are Food was fabulous- cooked by someone who must love food!

My only negative comment would be the mattress we slept on (front room over bar), sloping and starting to feel the springs on left side. Staff good , food good, nice continental breakfast.

Stopped in for dinner only. Staff were great, very friendly, helpful and accommodating! Alcohol free beer on tap, which was great for a driver. Food was delicious, good quality and cooked to perfection. Really cozy inside the bar and some great seating outside too for warm afternoons/evenings!

Had a fantastic Thai takeaway for two. Picked it up between 5:30 and 6pm, and had an early bird discount. They also deliver! Have also had a sit down meal here and the dishes are really innovative and unique.

I met a friend here for a catch up and we ate in the restaurant and stayed in the twin room. The room was super clean, well-equipped and perfect for its purpose. Dinner was good and breakfast really was as great as the reviews. All the staff were extremely friendly for our entire stay. As we were leaving I realised I had lost a piece of jewellery of high sentimental value which we (myself and the staff) hunted high and low for to no avail. Incredibly 3 weeks later I had a call to say it had been found! They kindly posted it and it is now back with me - a real testament to staying in independent properties with great staff who actually go out of their way to give amazing service to customers they clearly value. It's a perfect halfway point for us so we'll definitely be back!

Room and facilities well thought out - there's been much care and attention put into manging the quirks of an old bulding! Staff attentive and ensured we had everything we needed. Highly recommended!

We use the Horse & Groom usually for Sunday lunch when open & its always brilliant. Food consistently good & helpful pleasant staff Annette is always so accommodating & friendly. We feel like old friends! So impressed they are doing takeaways in this present situation. Also a deli type shop. We had Sunday lunch yesterday delivered free as we are local & couldn't fault it. We will certainly order it again. Well done all of you on your enterprising efforts.

As per previous reviews, the Landlady has the ability to make or break your dining experience depending on what side of bed she got out of that morning.

I would not drink in there again , landlady rude and kept asking us to move because people were eating in the bar , even though the restaurant part was empty. A pub is a pub NOT a restaurant!!!!

I thought the room was spacious and the bed very comfy,we had 2 x breakfast and 1 evening meal and thought the food was very good,all the staff were polite friendly and approachable,the place had a lovely old English pub feel to it and I would definitely stay here again.

This is a lovely Oxfordshire pub. Low ceilings, fireplace and really cosy. Came for a really nice meal. Disappointed by the speed at which the starter came after ordering - probably within 10 minutes. Mains came not an unreasonable time after the starters were finished, although I would have preferred a bit longer. Food was really good though. We would come back.

Very warm welcome from all staff. Room was lovely with nice decor and all you could need to make tea/coffee. Prebooked a table for evening meal which was lovely. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble which made our stay all the more enjoyable. As we had to leave early we ordered breakfast the night before and it was ready when we got down at 8am. Very homely pub and would not hesitate to stay at the horse and groom again if we were visiting the area.
