Probably the best pub in the south of England! Here you will find a carefully selected lineup of cask ales from some of the best breweries the country has to offer. Hails to the staff who know exactly what they’re doing. The pub has a fantastic community vibe and friendly atmosphere. Pot meals and rolls are served daily until late, so you can keep drinking the beers for longer!

Much hyped pub, and it didn't let down. Main barman/landlord very friendly in explaining beer choices, strength of beer etc. Makes a difference to some stuffier places. I've visited many times and have never had a complaint about the quality of the draught real ale. Grub's good too! Staff are friendly and efficient. I'd love to have this pub as my local. In warmer times, the outside cabins would make a good place to work on a laptop as there are USB sockets available. Beer festivals I'm told can get very busy! My favourite beer is the New Forest bitter.

Use to be 5 stars but seems to stopped ✋️ serving strong IPA. Never mind. So on the look out for a nearer pub to me. It seems the more popular a beer is the pub is reluctant to reorder and get it back again. Funny old world in the pub 😄 business. It seems to have reverse economics. In most businesses the more popular the product 👌 the more you sell and the more you reorder. Doesn't seem to work in the pub business. Strong IPA is the most popular cask beer in the world but in the UK its extremely hard to find outside of Wetherspoons.

This is god's pub. If you like traditional beer and ales, plus the chance to actually hear a conversation with your mates without the background babble of tellies showing sport or muzak this is for you. Children are infrequent visitors because this is not the kind of place they would enjoy. There are plenty of child friendly pubs where everybody can be happy. There is no mention of 'craft beer' here as what is on offer goes way beyond the marketing hype that accompanies foul tasting brews in need of slices of fruit to cheer them up. Food is served. Simple food but of such great quality it cannot fail to satisfy all but the most pretentious palate. And the beer? Did I mention the beer?

One of my favourite pubs in the world. Cozy nautical themed what's not to love. The beer selection on real ales is truly outstanding with two permanent beers , a golden ale and a bitter plus 4 more guest ales you really are spoiled. No mainstream brands here if you want a lager you'll have to have the proper German stuff which is a treat even for an ale lover myself. Their little bowl meals are really tasty, varied and cheap, even recreated one at home I loved it so much. Furthermore there is a hugeeeee outdoor area with heaters and covered seating which allows for use all year around. Finally the price of a pint here rarely goes over a fiver with most ales sitting around the 4-4.50 price point which is so refreshing these days. Myself and freinds travel an hour to get to this place as its just so special. The staff are fab , being knowledgeable ,polite and quick. Genuinely you must visit this pub. I can't overstate that enough. 10/10 guys.

Oh no, I couldn't give the Hope 5 stars. Last time I went it was a wet Friday evening and the place was standing room only. By the time I managed to get to the bar I didn't have a chance to see what was new in the continually changing choice of beer. The bar staff worked tirelessly but the place was too busy and loud for a relaxing drink for me. I'm sure I'll go again, but not on a Friday. Addendum, a bit of a time since my last review. Visited Sunday lunchtime. This time the sun was shining, the atmosphere was more relaxed. The food was great, fresh and the portions were large. Great choice of beer and had time to make a decision. The engine room of the pub is the staff and they worked hard and were friendly. Long overdue but I'm happy to add that extra star.

There is a reason this pub won the Camra award for 2023 (and many years prior). Nick, Mark, Dom and the team carefully source various tasty beers to delight all tastes. Karen and Zibbi create wholesome, flavoursome and very affordable meals that work beautiful with the drinks available. For those who aren't too fond of beer, there are many ciders, several spirits (including about 10 or so of each gin and whiskey) to choose from. They also have multiple ciders and mead to choose from. There's a large, well kept garden at the rear, which makes it perfect for the Summer, especially during their monthly beer festivals (held at the end of each month) Get there early to nab a table - they fill up fast!

The pub served beers so good, they could baptize you in hoppy glory. But, beware, it's not just the pints that are intoxicating. Met six folks—four were hops enthusiasts, two moonlighted as amateur philosophers of hate. A perplexing blend of brews and bigotry; sipping the beers, not the toxic views, is the key survival skill here. Cheers to the beers, may they drown out the unpleasant aftertaste of ignorance!

Real pub. Good selection of reasonably priced real ale. No TV. No music blaring. Friendly bar staff. Decent pub food. As perfect as you get. Updated after COVID - the beer and food have gone up slightly - typically 50p to £1. Really nothing considering how cheap they were to start with. Still the best pub by far Updated - still excellent. Great selection of beers - you can ask to try any in a shot glass and the bar staff are knowledgeable enough to suggest what you may like based on what you have had. Tip - the pump on the far left had the strongest beer, usually only sold in halfs or thirds depending on strength Updated again. Still by far the best pub for a long way. We seem to have had a big turnover in staff, but still helpful, really good selection of good beer, good basic pub food at decent prices. Really recommend it unless it's busy and you are taking up my table space! Updated again. Yep, still streets ahead as the best pub for a long way. Beers and beers selec tion fantastic. Fifteen years of hospitality and I never ran out of beer. Tonight they ran out of ALL 3 bitters (beers) and the main lager. When you have a great night watching a Who Tribute band and it’s still an hour or two before closing and the pumps are dry, it’s disappointing to say the least. Not the end of the world but it ended our night early. Shame.
