The Hope in Wandsworth

The service has deteriorated so much, and the food is not much better. I used to go to the Hope alot, but I doubt that I will return. You simply cannot run a local pub like this. The staff seem pretty disinterested and not well trained. I don't know what has gone wrong, or why the staff are not customer focussed anymore, but the Hope needs to rethink their approach. I appreciate times are hard for pubs, but skimping on training and staff will leak regulars to the other excellent pubs in the area.

Food is good - but not cheap. Still a bit annoyed with the promise of a draw for a free meal that I am sure never took place.... Do not false advertise... Not nice... Still. Lovely place, Great staff makes it what it is. Renovation was spot on. Recommend

Nice pub, decent food and atmosphere

There’s nothing worse than spending nearly £15 on a glass of wine and then the bar tender under pouring that wine. It boils my blood.

I had to send my Christmas Dinner back, the vegetables were served rock hard, very under cooked and the roast potatoes were served anaemic. We were kept waiting for our table and then waited over 45 minutes for our starters to arrive. After the starters we waited about 45 minutes for our main courses. I returned mine and waited about 20 minutes before a new meal of Christmas turkey arrived. I was not impressed with all the delays between courses especially as we has preordered our 3 course meal. The dessert arrived with the most miniscule amount of custard I had ever seen in my life. I requested another mini serving of custard as one was not sufficient with the very shallow crumble. I would not have a meal there ever again.

The Hope - brilliant beer and fabulous food.

We had booked The Hope for a family gathering following a funeral, so we were a party of at least thirty. I had visited in advance to order the buffet and drinks packages; John was very helpful in sorting those out. The buffet was very much appreciated - and so was the offer of takeaway boxes for the last of the guests who had long train journeys ahead of them! Everybody was very complimentary about the venue and the service.

Decided to have a last minute Christmas drinks at the hope last night! What a great choice that was, the team were incredibly welcoming, attentive and friendly and kept our drinks flowing all night. Ended up ordering some nibbles which were amazing, the nachos were one of the best I’ve ever had in a pub! Overall what a great evening will definitely be back very soon!

Rude staff. Their online system duplicated our order. Despite the offline back and forth, the staff was unwilling to offer an apology or a refund. Unfortunate.

Came for dinner with my friend last night and had a lovely meal and some drinks. Served by Harvie and Finn who were extremely helpful and helped with my dietary requirements. Will be visiting again soon!

Booked an area for a birthday gathering at late notice the weekend before last, and managed to get a nice spot at The Hope. Atmosphere, drinks, food (tasty sharing plates :) and service were great and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Thanks John and the team, you helped to make it a great birthday, much appreciated!

Great Sunday lunch. Fab food, service and atmosphere

We had a 4pm Sunday afternoon booking that we turned up on time for and waited for 10 minutes to be seated at our table. Once seated service was excessively slow. Once finished our meal the dirty dishes were left uncleared for over half an hour (we actually had to ask someone to clear them in the end). We also had to get up and ask someone to bring us the dessert menu after that. Server was friendly but unaware of all this. Finally, my roast was sub par. I had the roast beef and it came out so overdone it was like cardboard. Could not finish it. All of this is such a shame as I like this pub otherwise. Won’t rush back.

Had Sunday lunch at the Hope. We have had so many disasters on Sunday other pubs and restaurants. This place was fantastic with both food and service and we are particularly fussy. We actually sent one plate back just because it wasn’t warm enough and swapped it for a different dish and there was absolutely no judgement and a very pleasant Response. A lovely lady called Morganza . I’m so sorry if I’ve spelt that wrong. She has an Irish background and has been working there for three weeks. She was fantastic as was all the staff. The food was amazing and my husband is vegan. Roast was the best anywhere will definitely be back. Thank you so much guys

Although I am not a big drinker, the overall experience and atmosphere at The Hope is truly amazing! I have always left my plate clear, because the way that the food is presented is a feast to your eyes well before it touches your lips. The staff are always attentive and eager to help and have never left there wanting more, I feel pleased to recommend this gastropub, knowing that it will be a sound and quality experience! Thank you guys for making my experience memorable and inspiring me to share my thoughts here, which I don’t do lightly it is rear that I give 5 stars 🌟 but feel this space deserves them!

I loved the place even though it was my first time coming: I had a starter and drinks. Very delicious calamari, very helpful and friendly service, very clean disabled toilet, inside the pub and outside tables too. There isn't a strong alcohol smell.

Greatest pub in the area, menu comes up tops for me and the family, the meat is succulent and everything arrives in a timely manner. Who I’m guessing is the manager is a true gent, every time we pop in with the wee ones he always gives them the time of day. Speaking of kids, my son has allergies and they couldn’t be more careful and attentive if they tried. Never felt worried about his dietary needs here and they cater well for vegans. If I could make any food recommendations it would be their Sunday beef, oh man makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Evening atmosphere is lively but never rowdy and a perfect spot for a fireside chat. Great transport links and parking not too far away. Can’t recommend enough, thanks guys and keep up the good work, I can see this place getting better and better. Doggo and cyclist friendly too!

The Hope is a nice venue with pleasant atmosphere, great service and amazing management. Good place both for locals and for wanderers from every corner of the world; great for parties as well as for a slow afternoon over a pint and a good book. Located just next to the common; pleasant whole year. Gem hidden in a plain sight. Keep your eyes open when in Wandsworth neighbourhood. If your day is just so so - have The Hope :)

What's not to like about this pub? It's right next to Wandsworth common, has a great outside seating area, serves good selection of drinks, and produces incredibly tasty food. And not to forget the service is great, Finn is a good lad and should keep doing what he is doing :) 10/10 would return!

Had many a Christmas Function here. The food is out of this world, Drink prices are reasonable for Clapham. Staff are always accommodating. John really looks after everyone. Highly Recommended!

This has always been and will always be a great pub. Welcoming vibe from staff, great food and right on the common. Suggestion - have leisurely stroll around Wandsworth Common - but end up back here. Perfect day.

There's no match for the hope, it's truly the last hope of modern pubs in the UK, can't top their Fish & Chips, roast sunday and their huge selection of drinks. Went here with the lads and can't say I got anything but the best of quality whether it was service wise, food wise or drink wise. 5 Stars can't recommend this place enough!

Absolutely love this pub, we are here most Mondays for the quiz and other days for drinks after work and the odd Sunday dinner. the staff are very welcoming and friendly and the Manager John is always such a great host.the pub looks amazing after its fresh refurbishment too. Looking forward to spending many more fun nights here :)

This pub has been one of my locals for around 10 years, when I met my wife and now with +3 minors still coming back. It’s always a nice visit - I would say youngsters only.- but today half pub is closed for a 65th party. Sometimes there is a bar queue, but it’s orderly. 5* thank u

long story short, we packed up and went to the Althorp (massive and delicious roasts+starters+mains+desserts, no food shortages and polite, kind staff that were attentive and welcoming)

We have visited The Hope on Wandsworth Common on a number of occasions for Sunday lunch with family members, and have never been disappointed ... until now! I booked a table for my aunt, who is in her 80s, my daughter and myself and we arrived on time for our 2.15pm booking. The place was packed, staff were running around waiting tables and there did not seem to be anyone in charge to welcome us on our arrival and take us to our seats. My aunt, who has mobility issues (which I'd mentioned in the online booking) and uses a walking stick, was left to stand and wait for 15 minutes while one of the waiters went off to find a table, and never returned. Customers kept bumping into her as they entered and left the venue, with little care or attention. I found my aunt a seat at an empty table and another waiter said we could sit there instead. There was then a palavar while I queued up to purchase drinks and was told that it wasn't possible to order food from our table - we had to either use the App or order at the counter. I ordered roast beef for my daughter and two nut roasts for my aunt and myself, but was told that there was only one nut roast left. My aunt chose to have something from the small plates menu instead, plus roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese as sides. Forty five minutes later, we were still waiting for our food. The small plate of chicken wings was dumped unceremoniously on the table, but there was no sign of the other two dishes we'd ordered. At 3.20pm - over an hour after arriving - we managed to get the attention of a passing waiter (the most polite and helpful of this disorganised crew), who said that the kitchen was rushed off its feet with orders, but he would see where our meals were. We were eventually served at 3.40pm, nearly an hour and a half after arriving. The food looked like it had been sitting under a hot lamp for most of that time - dry, over-cooked and sloppily served up on the plate. The cauliflower cheese looked like baby food (and that is a generous description)!!! Most definitely this was not worth the £61 price tag for the meal. We decided against ordering desserts or coffees, knowing that it would probably be another hour before they arrived. Instead, my aunt went to use the disabled toilets before leaving. They were locked, and my query to one of the barmen was dismissed impatiently with the following response: "There is probably someone in there and if no one comes out in ten minutes (10 MINUTES!) someone will get you the key!" Fortunately, the nice chappie who was doing his best to cover everything on the restaurant fetched the key immediately. Turns out the toilet was empty all the time - so much for accessibility. As I said at the start, we have visited The Hope on a number of occasions, but this has got to be the most chaotic, shabby and uncaring customer service we have ever experienced. Staff were disorganised and inexperienced, and there was a distinct absence of anyone managing the restaurant! We left, finally, at 4.30pm and are unlikely to return.

Nice pub. Family and dog friendly. Sunny days are a treat with outside seating. Larry and Olivia are spot on and welcoming.

Had dinner twice here now and the food was excellent both times. Staff are super friendly and I really enjoyed the cosy and relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely pub with a flower-adorned outside area and little huts that make for a great setting for a party - which was the purpose of my visit. Located on a quiet street.

Went for lunch today for a treat with a close friend. She had the chef’s special roast lamb, while I had the nut roast with all the trimmings. We both thought the food was delicious and there was a lovely selection of vegetables well cooked and tasty. The staff were polite and friendly. Portion sizes were generous, my friend especially enjoyed the lamb and the nut was really tasty. What more can you ask? Thank you staff at the Hope and to the chef.

It is an art performance hall and is easily accessible by rail transportation, so it is also possible to go to Hwaseonghwa.

Terrible food all cold and did not taste very good. Service very poor and i attentive. We had to keep asking for for thing s and check took forever. People having drinks looked happy enough so perhaps that is the way to go!

Meet up with friends for a Sunday lunch. Very easy to find opposite the station, we had pre booked our table for 6. Lovely traditional looking pub, modern interior. Great Sunday lunch options, with an above average wine list. Will definitely go back.

I've been there last Sunday!! A welcoming personel and a really nice atmosphere 👌 The food was simply great, well prepared and quickly served!! Lots of selections for food and definitely lots for beer lovers 😋 Great quality and great quantities. The location is wonderful and is must visit for a chilled break during the day.

Fabulous pub, gorgeous food and brilliant staff. I held a lunch there for 30 people for a special birthday and the whole experience was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for them, all my guests commented on the quality of the food and everything was done with a smile. Really recommend it.

Really nice pub. Brunch needs improvement. 3 of the 6 brunch options were with hollandaise, but they were out of hollandaise. If could also be improved by having simple options, like eggs on toast. The non-hollandaise options were large meals.

Lovely setting with a great outlook onto Wandsworth common. Really lovely at sunset. Recently renovated so fit out and vibe is awesome! Food and drink is nice but food a little expensive for what it is. Maybe more of a drinks spot. Wouldn’t recommend the steak if I’m honest (£27 and wasn’t the best) but the pie, the baked Camembert bread entree were superb. Burger looks nice too. Lovely local vibe and will be back!

The Hope provided a great service from start to finish for a private event in the outside Garden room. Very friendly and helpful, everything beautifully presented and the platinum buffet was fantastic. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We came a group of 5 of us. Weather was good so the atmosphere was amazing. Plenty of friendly faces and welcoming environment. The service was excellent 👌 . Bar staff friendly well mannered and helpful. Got every order correct and no spillage lol. I gave 4 stars for the food because although the burgers were juicy and succulent it's did take a while. Not their fault it was very busy. I'm surprised they managed the whole afternoon how they did. Credit to them. We had an issue with payment and the manager John was more than accommodating about our mistake and allowed us some time to organise payment, assisted where he could and was patient

Great pub right on the Wandsworth common, with a lovely beer garden! Stef and Olivia are always so welcoming and there's a wide range of drinks and quality food! Dog friendly too 😁. Will certainly be heading back soon.
