I was looking for a spot last minute for an event for 50 people and this turned out to be most incredible spot!! Sophie was very accommodating in helping me book everything. Our waiter, Sam, and the bar manager for the night was unreal in terms of making sure everything went smoothly. Also, there was a really nice security guard who made sure the event remained private. It turned out to be a perfect night. 10/10 would recommend. Just a heads up if you do book the courtyard area — there’s no music due to the neighbours. Also I would recommend preordering drinks to make sure they have stock of what you’re wanting. Other than that, I was super happy with everything!

Walk through to the garden or rear dining area for a great ambience. Lamb was tender tasty and well presented. Service is smiling and efficient.

Very nice pub with a great beer garden! I have been there several times to watch a match or just for dinner as the food is excellent! Highly recommend for a great Sunday roast!

security were absolutely horrible for no reason

I booked The Avalon to watch England vs Netherlands in the semi finals of the Euros 2024. I paid the £50 gift card in order to secure the table and I really wish I NEVER bothered. Although the bar staff were kind, and the pub was busy, no one had a clue what was going on. We spent our £50 gift card on 1 pizza-and-a-Peroni-for-£15-offer x2 (£30), plus a couple extra pints and our gift card was fully used up. As soon as England won, the bar tender said we had £22 outstanding, and we explained we didn't. Upon checking, it was clear that we were correct as our gift card had been fully used (can I just add, whenever we used the gift card, staff would let us know how much was left on it), and we paid on our cards for each and every other pint after the gift card, on our debit cards. I then asked for the manager and she argued back and said 'OK, well that means you aren't ever welcomed back here'. Wow. Fine with me as I am not going to pay extra for the mistake of staff. I have previously worked in hospitality throughout uni (4 years) and completely sympathised with the chaos of a busy night (like I told the staff). If that was me working at The Avalon, I would not degrade customers in such an awful manner. Sort it out. It is not our mistake that the bar staff didn't communicate with one another even though we used our gift card to pay for the night and also paid for extra drinks on our debit cards. They didn't put anything through correctly, and were stood there scratching their heads for things not adding up, and asking us to pay £22 to make up for their mess. How disappointing. This is the first bad review I have ever left in my LIFE. But I felt compelled to do so, as they made myself and my friends feel like utter rubbish after such a nice evening watching the football. And they were arguing with us in front of other customers. Hopefully, The Avalon take this advice on board, and work harder to not insult honest customers. Maybe in the future, you should proceed with a normal booking system where you take a deposit, and not a ridiculous £50 gift card scheme, to ensure everyone is satisfied. Shame on you. We shall not return due to being so insulted. I am incredibly appalled and cannot believe an establishment would ever treat customers (that are trying to understand what went wrong) with such disrespect and disregard. 0/10.

A good gathering place for a pint and nibbles.

What an unmitigated disaster this place has become. OK so it’s 6-7 years since I was here last but how can such a gem fall so far. The outdoor area is cloaked in a filthy piece of canvas that makes you feel as if you’re walking into an oversize latrine. A theme carried on inside where the stench in the bar was a mix between outdoor sewer and indoor sewer. The high tables were sticky with dried booze (and god knows what other fluids). The bar staff were the most miserable employees on the planet - not surprised tho given they have to work in that stench. The bar interior has less appeal than a rundown O’Neils and was even more miserable than the outside tent. Avalon used to young cool hip and trendy. Whilst many pubs struggle to survive but deserve to be kept open I think I’d prefer this place to be a Foxtons Estate Agents than the crud it’s become. Do. Not. Go

Had a school reunion and the staff were so friendly and accommodating, really friendly atmosphere.

Absolute horrendous place! The female bouncer, Ms Richards, physically assaulted 2 girls and dragged them across the place by the throat and she had a knife on her! The manager was absolutely useless and made excuses, telling the girls to leave and letting the female bouncer continue working! Will never be going there again, zero stars.

The old lady bouncer was a disgrace, We have footage of her saying my friend was sad because she’s ugly. She also insulted her parents saying they were awful parents. Absolutely vile behaviour especially for such an old lady.

Last Saturday I witnessed something really scary. I saw two girls coming out of the toilet, the bouncer was following them and screaming whilst holding a knife. She rugby tackled one of them who was crying her eyes out. When her friend was looking after her, she was aggressively grabbed by the throat and dragged across the room. It was absolutely horrible and upsetting. I will never go here again, I sincerely hope this bouncer was dealt with. However looking at the management I highly doubt it :(.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Bouncers carry knives monitoring the toilets and when calmly questioned you get grabbed by the throat, dragged through the bar and kicked out!!!!! Doesn’t matter if they’re “blunt”, super aggressive staff hence the alarm, which is further validated by the throat dragging. Shame as it ruins what would be a good establishment otherwise.

The roast pork belly and shoulder of lamb were exquisite! Sensational roast. Service a bit slow but they were very busy in Sunday. Table not wiped down. Nice sunny garden ☀️🙏🏽

Nice dining area at the back of the pub, good food, reasonable prices and friendly service.

A decent pub with a little garden area and a fair amount of space, but it gets ridiculously busy (they even had a queue), so be prepared for that. What is also baffling is that they turn the dining area into a disco despite there being nowhere to dance. Why play music so loud and kill the lights?

The service here (Francis in particular, although everyone is first rate) is impeccable! After over 25 years of visiting this country, truly the best pie I have ever had here! This place is a must in Balham! Thank you all for making my visit here exceptional! Nothing but good words! ❤️

Huge pub with extensive garden and rather fancy dining area. We sat in the garden, which was very pleasant. Couldn't get food order to work via QR code, and they don't take orders over the bar. But a glass collector did order for us. Enjoyed our visit, would come again

Had the most fabulous evening for dinner and drinks here. Amazing food (varied menu and very generous portions), lovely selection of wines and drinks. What absolutely made the evening however was the service from Selin, the AGM, who took perfect care of us. We were so well looked after. Thank you, Selin! You were truly amazing

Visited last Saturday night and enjoyed the best food (plus cocktails) I’ve had in a while! To top it off there was dancing after and this completed the evening. I would definitely recommend and will be heading back in no time! Thank you ⭐️

Shocking customer service! Was told we had 10 minutes to leave our table due to a booking, we said no problem had an inch left of our drinks. Next thing I know had a table pushed into my legs as I hadn’t moved 2 minutes later… told we had been asked 3 times to move… which we hadn’t… not sure if we had been considered part of a larger group but we were only asked once to move and had an extremely rude encounter with Selin… the manager I spoke too about the incident was pathetic and Selin saw me talking to him so continued her aggressive nature. Can’t believe she was allowed to talk to customers in the tone she used and basically barged a table into my legs! Won’t be back!

Great menu for a Sunday Roast - we had roast beef, roast belly (gluten free) and the veggie chestnut, grain & parsnip wellington Really tasty food and good value for what was served Half pint the same price as a Diet Coke / lemonade. Overall value was good but portions could have been a bit larger with more roast potatoes rather than mashed potato to prop up the rest of the meal Shame to have no roast chicken left but service was excellent with friendly and attentive staff and a very clean pub Will be back soon!!

Got a sharing table plate and two starters - amazing, found it all very nice , especially the Scotch egg, the Korean ribs and the garlic bread ! Was at 12pm so wasn't busy - but I've been here in evenings and the atmosphere is great. Lovely staff. Banging mojitos 🥳

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday meal as it's one of our local pubs and we got the steak for 2 which was around 65 pounds. Massively disappointing! Firstly, we asked for medium rare but it basically just came rare. This was fine as we are not too fussy and could still enjoy it. The problem was it was majorly overpriced for what it was. It comes with a massive bone across the plate to make it look like a much bigger meal. The steak meat was not for two and was full of fat. I have never been left hungry after steak but I was then. The chips were mediocre and just not that enjoyable overall. Feeling like I wasted my money.

We hired the Blue Room for an event. The service was great and they were on top of getting the drinks to everyone. However, the food was quite disappointing. I think the menu needs to be improved. It tasted really flavourless and bland.

Despite being incredibly busy, the bar staff served us promptly while we waited for our booked table to be prepared. Great food and fantastic service - Edward in particular was outstanding.

Lovely meal here on a Friday evening. Very attentive and friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Not cheap but value for money because of quality.

We had our Christmas party here and had a great time. We arrived a bit early and had some drinks in the pub. We then went to our private room where we enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal followed by an evening of entertainment singing Karaoke. As our room was only booked until 11pm, the waitress kindly found a table for us downstairs where we could put our things / drinks and continue to enjoy the lovely music. We had a great night here.

The food was pretty disappointing. Described as a chipotle lamb steak with tabbouleh but the tabbouleh was just plain giant couscous so very dry. Wouldn’t recommend that dish. The staff were pretty friendly and helpful with allergens.

My friends and I hired the blue room for a Christmas party. Organisation pre event was excellent, thank you Marley. The service whilst we were there was efficient and excellent. The food was delicious. I had all the vegan options, friends had a mixture of meat and fish options. All very good. The room was very Christmassy and decorated well. After we finished we danced to great tunes downstairs. Thank you The Avalon.

Marley did an amazing job organising my work Christmas party for 70 attendees. Over the course of three months, we exchanged emails and she efficiently addressed all my queries to guarantee a seamless event. Marley was present during the celebration as well. We had a welcoming glass of Prosecco, a delicious three-course meal, and drinks along with a microphone and speaker setup. Many thanks to Marley and the rest of the team at The Avalon!

Fast and attentive service, delicious food in good portions. The pork belly was heaven, the sticky toffee pudding was to die for as well. Only downside is that it can get a bit noisy at peak times since it's such a big hall. But I loved the mixed crowd as well, from families with kids to young groups of friends, all together, a microcosm of London at its best.

We rented the blue room for a dinner and we were so well looked after and really helpful with the tech in the room too

I booked out The Blue Room for a private event and the staff (Maddy and Selin) were absolutely fantastic, it was easy to organise, extremely flexible, and everything went super smoothly. Amazing facilities and quaint decor. Highly recommend.

The venue was absolutely fantastic!! Everyone couldn't stop complimenting how wonderful the space was – so intimate and warm, even though outside! The staff were exceptional! Always attentive and polite! Their smooth service and regular check-ins made us feel incredibly welcome. The food was equally outstanding! Despite a few guests having dietary intolerances, the catering team swiftly and politely accommodated their needs. And those burgers – simply divine! I can't express my gratitude enough for the effort your venue and staff put into making our birthday celebration truly memorable. We are definitely planning to come back again in the future! Great local pub. Went on a Sunday afternoon and the secret garden was lovely. They tend to play most of the big football matches as well, and is a lovely spot to settle in and enjoy sport.

I've always had a great time at the Avalon. The staff are really friendly - especially Selin. Her service is always spot on and always with a smile. The pubs atmosphere is great for a drinks, food and watching sport.

Vibrant pub with a lovely beer garden, a hidden gem in Clapham. I can't get enough of their Sunday roast - the roast beef is delicious! Also great veg and vegan options Service was excellent felt really looked after.

Been coming to the Avalon for some time now, either with my family and friends for the pub quiz, or by myself to relax and socialise. At the end of my last visit however, after having had friendly conversations with the bar staff and several patrons, I was forced to leave by a member of staff because of my “behaviour”. Still not certain what he was referring to, as he didn’t elaborate. Very disappointing experience as I really like this venue and it’s a shame for an otherwise enjoyable atmosphere to be ruined by rude and unreasonable staff. Hopefully this will change in the future.

Great large pub with wide selection of beers and a garden at the back. Extra outside seating at front and this is covered. Good for small ans large groups you'll have a good time here. Staff very friendly and give good service.

I booked out a space at the Avalon and was very pleasantly surprised. Marley was helpful and very accomodating, and her staff worked really hard to give a great service during a very hot day in the garden. The area provided was beautiful and all who attended had a wonderful time. The platter food choices were great and a massive variety to choose from. Overall, it was a great experience.

Was staying at hotel next door and popped in for a meal. The staff were very welcoming and explained the menu. There was a special to celebrate their 20 years in business. This was very tasty and excellent value and delivered promptly. £6:80 for a pint was a shock, but that comes from living in the south west without London prices! Staff were friendly again when I left. The pub is nicely laid out and decorated. Would highly recommend.

I come here a lot and this pub is absolutely great. Today I had one of the best meals ever. This garlic honey roasted pork belly was on the specials and it was everything you could want from a meal.. compliments to the chef!

A lovely pub - booked a table outside for a birthday (around 30 people). Communication was really quick (had to pre-order food) and friendly. On the day Selin was great! Super friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Loved being outside in the gorgeous garden at the back and enjoyed excellent service from Celine and Adam. I know Celine from the Bedford in Balham and was pleased to see her and admire her interaction with customers and her easy manner. Know the Avalon well and love it as a venue

Booking a corporate event has never been so easy. Marley and the fantastic team at the Avalon went above and beyond for our team before and throughout our event. The secret garden was the perfect spot for outdoor drinks, and when we moved inside to the dining room for food and dancing, it was just as good. Organisation was seamless, staff were amazing and the food and drinks were great too. Thank you again to the wonderful team and we will be back soon!
