A lovely atmosphere, great staff and fantastic food. Went twice in two days, firstly for a late breakfast then back the next day for lunch and to collect half a dozen gluten free homemade doughnuts (who knew!). A few doughnuts should have been desert but they all became takeaway items as the chocolate cake looked too good to be missed - it received top marks from the children. The Toblerone cheesecake I had for dessert is genuinely the best cheesecake I've had anywhere, it was remarkable. The only feedback I got on the doughnuts was "How is that gluten free!?" No other words were offered as doughnut consumption became the priority. I suspect we will be returning many times.

Absolutely lovely food! The scones were warm and cooked to perfection, the omlette and chips were huge and very good for the money that we paid. Lovely service from the owners too! Recommend going here if you would like a bite to eat or even a tea and scone. Thankyou! X

Home Kitchen specialises in gluten free food, and does a super job. As a coeliac I have been calling in here for many years when visiting the area. We usually visit late morning for brunch, and it is obvious that there are a number of regular customers, which is always a good sign. The menu offers a wide range of gluten free meals, (including a good selection of varieties of quiche) and a specials board. The gf bread is as good as I have eaten since diagnosed coeliac. My partner on a normal diet) always enjoys her meals here too, so we are both happy.

We were on holiday in Dawlish and decided to pop in for lunch, I ordered jacket potato with cheese and potato was only microwaved not very nice. My husband had a burger, the burger was only half the size of the bun, it looked ridiculous….

I visited with my disabled father, my mum and brother. Food was great. The young Portugese girl was really sweet and couldn’t have been more helpful. She was lovely. Thank you all of you.

I went for a chicken pie but the food seemed to have a sand flavour I also tasted the chicken and bacon but the chicken was not creamy for my liking and I feel the homemade pastry had too much flour The milkshake was nice

Very nice home cooked food. Everything on the menu is gluten free and cooked fresh. Had a smoked haddock and mozzarella fishcake served with salad. Happy to put in a takeaway box so I could enjoy in the park opposite with sweet black swans!

I'm thinking people who are not impressed with this cafe just don't post. Food took ages to come out, and it wasn't that busy when we went in. I had a jacket potato with tuna mayo, which was more mayo than tuna, and I can't explain how weird the potato was. It was really mushy and not pleasant. This was served in a wide ledged soup bowl, so salad was under the potato and soggy. Also, you can't cut anything on the ledge as bowl flips over. My husband had a sandwich, which was OK but served on a warm plate, so the side salad was wilting and dry. Like another review, we weren't asked if everything was ok. The cafe itself is very cramped. We had to squeeze into a corner (should have left then). All in all, it was disappointing and would not return

Lovely place, so many options for my coeliac daughter! Ordered donuts for collection the next day, which resulted in my daughter having a massive smile on her face! Will visit again when in the area for sure! The rest of the family who are not gluten free, really enjoyed the food as well.

I live in Dawlish and have said on several occasions I must pay a visit. Well today I did and will definitely go back again. I had one of the gluten free scones with a coffee ( the coffee was a bit strong so I will need to ask for a weaker coffee next time) it was slightly warm and was delicious. My Dad had a non gluten free tea cake and a pot of tea. It is nice that they offer gluten free and non gluten free options. They ask when taking orders if you have any dietary requirements.

Extensive gluten free options on menu. We were only wanting coffee and gluten free cake. The apple cake melted in the mouth and was delicious. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely recommend and will be back.

Incredible! Our coeliac daughter had the most delicious cheese & onion pasty and chips to take away today. She usually has to miss out on the ‘yum food’ as often we cannot find anything for her needs, but we stumbled upon this gem today and were very happy with the service and quality of the food… and we had one very happy little girl! Omg! I cannot believe I found somewhere that does everything completely gluten free. We need more of these around. Great service and wonderful food.

What a gem of a place this is. The gluten free menu was extensive with everything from pasties to burgers and lots in between. I had the chicken, leek and bacon pasties and chips which I remember rightly are made on the premises. The home made Toberone cheesecake which was excellent. The gentleman who served us really knew his stuff. There was even gluten free brown sauce and vinegar too.

What a find! Not usual to find somewhere with such an extensive menu that caters for meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans and gluten free. We had the toad in the hole, freshly cooked (where on earth do you get that these days!!!), served on piping hot plates with oodles of gravy and fresh mashed spuds and veg....truly deserving of their business name of 'home kitchen'. When we return to Dawlish we will be going back here to sample some more home cooking, not to mention the delightful staff and amazing service with a smile. The place was very busy, with both visitors like ourselves and locals who obviously frequent it regularly (and if we lived there that would be us!). Thank you for a memorable home dining experience!

This is a great little cafe, offering a really good selection of home-cooked food & daily specials, in a friendly & relaxed atmosphere. Particularly good for those with dietary requirements.

Lovely little cafe, the owner was very nice and friendly. All the food made in here was gluten free, which was a lovely surprise, the notices and menus say gluten free available, so it was nice to find out everything made here is gluten free! We were in here just for a warming quick drink, but after find out about the food we ordered cake and cream teas, which we started eating before I remembered to take a photo, hence the half eaten cakes in this review! Would definitely go back, nice choice of food available as well as specials. The cakes and drinks we had were really nice, it’s dog friendly too!

myself and my wife called in to the Home kitchen today for the first time for lunch as we were going to be walking from Dawlish to Teignmouth. My wife is primarily vegan and the range of foods and the description and help that the owner Mark gave was first class, we both had freshly cooked meals which was brilliantly presented and a joy to eat would thoroughly recommend

This cafe was an unexpected pleasure and we will definitely be back. For a start, EVERYTHING is GLUTEN FREE!!! They do have some 'normal' bread for those who want it...but it is the option. They also had at least four VEGAN options in the mains, and a dessert. They can also make their breakfasts (available till 4pm) vegan too (although they are no longer doing 'fake' meat replacement). The service was exceptional‐-friendly, helpful, polite, and they made sure to check if we were coeliac (not the issue for us). We were there for dinner, but they do breakfast and lunch too. The food itself was delicious, with fresh salad and chips to accompany each of our mains options. We each tried something different, but pastry-based ie a a vege tagine pie, a curry vege pasty, and a chickpea & butternut sqash pasty. Next time I'll try the vege tart. The apple crumble was also delicious! I think the pastries were reheated from frozen, but were really tasty and everything else on the plate was fresh. Finding this gem is going to make trips to Dawlish a real pleasure. The mains were between £9-£10, and the lunches were all under £5.

Absolutely fantastic food, loads made in house and extremely knowledgeable owner with food intolerances (gf and DF). My son had the cottage pie which was delicious I had the chicken and chorizo pasty. My partner had fish cakes and we both left room for dessert!...

I feel like I'm kicking a puppy. Everyone loves this place so it pains me to give a negative review. The people we went with loved it and the folks in the café were singing their praises. The atmosphere is great with a homey local feel. The service was fast and efficient. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food didn't meet our expectations. We ordered a pie and a pasty. These were taken from a freezer so they do not have a homemade feel. The pie and the pasty were delivered less than ten minutes later so they are speed cooked. The pastry was rubbery and the filling dry. We were not asked how our food was which was a relief because I would have hated to sound negative amongst the happy customers. The salad and chips that came with the food was good but the centrepiece was a let down. The meal with drinks cost over £10. I feel this was overpriced for the quality of food we received. Having said all this our friends couldn't help but talk about how good the food was all afternoon - to each their own.

Fantastic service and such a wide range of gluten free deserts that are generally hard to find. We had scones and lemon morangue cake, and one of us had eggs with bacon which was all lovely. Popped in for a warming coffee one cool and damp morning recently. The coffee was excellent and the staff were very friendly but efficient at the same time. The menu looked very appetising so next time we will sample it.

Recently had my first visit to Devon,and visited the Home Kitchen with family. We had Sunday roast,which was excellent and on Friday before our return home we went for breakfast which again was excellent. Excellent service and friendly staff.

WOW! We were on a day out to dawlish for the first time and found the cafe on the corner! Great welcome from the staff, fantastic menu so much choice didn't know whether to have the roast or the breakfast!! Had the breakfast in the end so good loads of flavour and staff v good about any food allergy's! Going to return for the roast next time!!

Wasn't impressed with the breakfast. Eggs weren't cooked, the white was still snotty. Bacon was very fatty and a bit chewy. Beans were very watery. Sausage not the best, had a weird tang. Very good coffee though and very pleasant service.

Called in for a lunch on Saturday 7 May. We all had first class meals, served promptly and with first class service. This place does a fabulous range of meals at very good prices, and well worth a visit. We will return next time we visit Dawish now that we have returned to Torquay to live. Not sure how I haven't written a review for this place already. Me and the family come here all the time. A lovely little cafe providing brilliant food at a small cost. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is nice. They do absolutely everything on their menu gluten free, which my partner was very happy about the first time we ate here, as she misses breaded garlic mushrooms. This place is now a regular visit for us to have breakfast, the full breakfast is delicious and amazing value. When we get friends come to visit down here we always bring them here. As long as you give them notice they are very catering for large parties, even though its quite a small cafe. I would highly recommend anyone to visit this lovely cafe, even more so if you are gluten free/coeliac.

Visited the cafe whilst on holiday, and the guy serving us, who I assume was the owner, was really, really helpful. The cafe had closed by the time we'd left, but he carried on giving information about the steamtrain and boatrides, nonetheless. Obviously an admirable quality in a man. And if and when, we'll be returning, we'll continue to support this cafe, as the beverages and cakes, were delicious too!
