Great pub, very pleasant walk to get there. Surrounded on all sides by stunning English countryside, amazing views. Food and drink was top notch, but 4 ⭐️ for atmosphere as when we arrived it was very quiet although it did fill up later in the afternoon.

Lovely place, good food and a pleasant atmosphere. I had risotto, the only thing I didn't like was that it had too much bacon which made it a little too salty. Also it's bit pricey.

Amazing small pub nestled in the countryside. I enjoyed the pork roast it was lovely apart from the photoatoes that could of been a little crisper, and the carrots weren't that nice. Service was 5 star, brilliant staff. Atmosphere 5 star small country pub with fire. Overall great experience!

I've always loved this beautiful country pub restaurant but am now hesitating over returning. Food is good with excellent local produce but the atmosphere is not what it used to be. For the prices charged you can expect a calm, relaxed meal. Unfortunately on our last two visits the place has been extremely noisy, once due to a loud, foul-mouthed group at the bar and then due to a family with young children who acted as if they had privatised the place, giving the whole restaurant the benefit of their songs and games. It's not up to the junior staff, who were very friendly and efficient, to take care of this but there was no management front of house to welcome diners and set the tone. In addition, the drinks choice was limited with no ginger ale and only one draught butter, surprisingly not a local one. The Elizabethan is now a restaurant not a pub, but needs to deliver the experience that matches the prices.

We took our 91-year-old aunt for a meal last night. The food, my partner and I had was very good. We have, however, rated the venue poorly because of aspects which were very poor. As requested, we were given a quieter table, but although a jug of water was brought immediately, there was quite a bit of a wait for our drinks order to be taken and to arrive. There was probably another 20 minutes wait before our food order was taken and it was only taken, when we asked a staff member. We had been at the pub for over an hour before our food arrived and it felt like a very long wait. People who arrived after us were served before us. Sadly, the risotto, my aged aunt ordered, was too salty for her. She pushed it to one side and a young staff member came over to enquire if it was okay and my aunt said. , admittedly in a fairly curmudgeonly way, that it was too salty. I think that member of staff may have been fairly new or inexperienced, because the comment did seemed to cause her a bit of stress. To help the situation, I asked my aunt if she would like something else The waitress then said ‘ Oh, yes, would you like something else?’ Aunt, by now, was very fed up and disappointed and said she didn’t want anything. It was her treat and she said to us that she hoped they wouldn’t charge for that risotto. At the end of the meal, she was so fed up that she asked us to pay and we queried the fact that the risotto was included on the bill. The person taking our money, went to check whether it should be on there or not, and we were told, in no uncertain terms, that as she had been offered something else and had refused it, they would charge for the risotto! Not even a discount. Not even much of an apology. We would say to the Elizabethan Inn, that you’ve lost our custom, most of the custom of the people, my aunt, who lives locally, knows, and maybe even more from people who read this For the sake of that service, which was very poor on your behalf, you will have lost custom. Really and truly how much did that rissotto cost you compared to this review?

We had booked for 5 adults. Well worth the narrow lanes from our holiday accommodation and the torrential rain. We were met with a warm and friendly welcome. Food was fantastic, we all enjoyed our different choices, and wish we had visited before as this was our last night in the area. Would love to visit again.

Spent a great couple of hours celebrating my wifes birthday here. The location was well tucked away down some serious country lanes, but on arrival we felt very at ease in the extension dining room. The service and food was top notch. The menu was rather varied and changed monthly I think. My jambalaya was excellent with large chunks of chicken, a good number of prawns in a rich spicy sauce. The portion sizes were generous leaving us full up on departure. The reason I only gave 4 stars for atmosphere was because we were the only people in the extension when we arrived. I would have no problem in recommending this establishment for a great meal out. Hoping to be back soon.

We visited here on a Friday night after we had an unexpected child free evening and having not visited for a long while, we though we would give it a try. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young lady at the bar, were served our drinks and shown to our table. Accepting of the cost of living crisis and that most things have gone up, we were still quite surprised by the cost of the menu items (over £20 for a curry with naan breads or poppadoms as payable extras!!), but we were happy to pay and looked forward to what we would receive for the cost. The garlic bread starter was nice and served quickly. We had a fish & chips £19.95 and the hake & tiger prawn meal £25. The fish and chips was nice but was it worth £19.95... no, not really and the waiter clumsily stretched over to put it down, half the food slid on to the table, but no offer to replace. We just had to scoop it back onto the plate! The hake was nicely cooked, tiger prawns were overcooked and served whole in the shells. This isn't a problem but should have been accompanied by a finger bowl and somewhere to put the shells. Saffron sauce and baby potatoes were lovely but I would have expected a little more in the way of vegetables than a little spoonful of greens for £25. Sticky toffee pudding was ok, slightly lacking in flavour but the cheeseboard was delicious! A lovely selection of westcountry cheeses. Sadly, if businesses would like to charge these high end prices, they must ensure that the quality of food and service matches as I believe that this is the reason for the recent reviews from dissatisfied customers at this establishment. Would I return? No, I'm afraid not.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Went for a late lunch for to celebrate my Fathers birthday. The place looks lovely and very friendly and patient staff. That’s where the enjoyment ends for this place. The food is incredible expensive for what it is, £19.95 for a roast turkey dinner. All the veg is served on the side, which isn’t a bad thing, but they did not serve enough for the size of the party we had. Upon asking how the meal was I asked for more cauliflower cheese and the waitress was lovely enough to get me some. At no point was I told this was going to cost me £4.90. The rest of the veg was edible, nothing special, certainly not for the price. We decided to join the others in our party (12 people) to get some dessert, expensive but little complaints. Upon going to pay the bill I was then told I had to pay for the cauliflower, I expressed how I was not happy to pay for it as I was only given one clove of cauliflower cheese to start with and that I was not told it was chargeable. The waitress agreed that I didn’t have to pay. As we tried to leave I was then informed that I did have to pay. So I asked to talk to the manager, I have never met such a rude person in hospitality, I grew up in hospitality and it has been the majority of my life. I tried to express where I was with this situation, I had one piece of cauliflower and if I was told I had to pay then there’s no way I’d order it. I was met with nothing but condescending remarks back. “If you order extra food you pay for it”, “you should distribute better between your party” (not enough cauliflower served to for each person to have 2 cloves). My brother stepped in to try and mediate the situation and it wasn’t long until he was being condescended and called aggressive. He kept complimenting the place but insisted that she didn’t need to talk to us in this way, he’s a General Manager himself, and he wouldn’t treat the customer the same way. She then persisted to try to gain the information to where he worked, only way I could see her needing that information is to react to this review. Of course that information was not given and she questioned that decision, a customer shouldn’t need to tell you where they work. Now the price has nothing to do with the situation, it was the fact we had to pay, for what should have been delivered in the first place. The money was paid to defuse the situation but will certainly not return or recommend to any body. I have never in my life given a bad review online or even complained in a restaurant, as I know the impact it can give and that it could be a one off. But the way we were treated and spoken to by the Manager is nothing short then disgraceful.

Neing on a family trip I reviewed the local pubs for the highest rated food only to be disappointed having ordered the best main on the menu at around £32. I asked for medium rare to be presented with a very dry and over cooked fillet, it was accompanied by a small pot of peas, a mushroom, and a bowl of chips. I returned the dry steak and advised it was over cooked, felt awkward as the staff seem amazed. I was advised a new steak would take approximately 25 minutes thinking to myself that's how long the last one was obviously cooked for. Sure enough the steak arrived this time cooked medium rare and re fried returned chips that tasted simply of cooking oil, dry and crispy, none of the family liked them commenting they were reheats. We paid in full and left. For £32 for a steak it was disappointing and awkward. On a positive note the mash, and my wife's duck was very nice, sausage to. Would I go again...........no it was not value for money and frankly disappointing. Sorry.

I'd heard good things about this place, but to be blunt, I was very unimpressed. The roast was awful, the meat chewy and dry. Had a small plate of veg for us to share, nothing remarkable about any of it. For dessert I decided to have the coffee with home made fudge. It sounded nice, and I was hoping for a few chunks of fudge. To my disappointment I was served the thinnest slice of fudge I've ever seen! I had to order another dessert, and when I mentioned it to the staff nobody seemed bothered that I felt mislead, and there was no adjustment to the bill. And to be honest, it wasn't cheap there. I've eaten at a lot better places for less money, so won't be returning.

On arrival we were told that we would be seated in the bar area, which was a bit disappointing as we had asked for a table in the barn/atrium, section. We could not fault the food or service, lovely meal and great staff. Our biggest disappointment was the bar we were seated had several people sat around it who were obviously locals, a few who had probably had a few too many drinks, and the language was to say pretty bad. Now I know we all swear but to here the F and C words while having an anniversary meal in a quite pricey restaurant is not really what you would expect. Just Wow. Called ahead to book a table after a recommendation from our host and were accomodated with no fuss. The venue itself is absolutely stunning in a lovely location clearly steeped in history. It has the feel of a traditional British village pub. The menu is extensive, cooked fresh and of an extremely high quality. The price is at the higher end but this is reflected in the portion size which is enormous. Enjoyed Scallops to start and Ribeye Steak, both of which were potentially the best i have ever enjoyed! Great welcoming service with a smile, would not hesitate to rush back!

This was the best Sunday roast I have had. The meat was tender and the vegetables and cauliflower cheese plenty for us all. One grandson ordered chicken goujons from the kids menu which would have fed an adult and the chicken goujons didn't look like they were the frozen variety. Big thank you to the chef and staff for the cooking and their friendliness. Will definately return when back visiting our son in Devon

Lovely interior, friendly and efficient staff, good menu in general, on the expensive side but we don’t mind paying for quality. The starters and lamb were delicious however the salmon chorizo risotto was a bit overpowering and I could only get through a few mouthfuls before regretting my choice. At the end of the meal the attitude of woman who cleared our table,( I think maybe the owner ?!) really put me off spending any more money/ having a sweet etc. not as friendly as our usual and that’s what was lacking so I won’t recommend or return as that’s what we look for in a good ‘ regular’ restaurant. We eat out around once a week and really like to enjoy the whole experience and feeling like a valued customer is an essential part of that. I didn’t get that sense from her which is a real shame. (We spent £77)I

Went expecting a nice Sunday roast with the whole family. Unfortunately my sister and I are veggie and the only vegetarian meal on the menu was a linguini. When it came we were highly disappointed as it just looked like they had thrown whatever vegetable they could find into the dish, with absolutely no sauce or flavour. Salt and pepper added more flavour to the dish than it already had and most of the meal was undercooked. When your paying £16 for a dish this is definitely not what you’d expect, especially when those prices meet the same as places with much better standards. For starters, I ordered two bread platters for 3 of us to share and unfortunately only one was brought out, and we couldn’t get the attention of a server until everyone had finished and was ready to move onto mains. Then again at dessert a member of our party ordered a coffee with their cheesecake, but unfortunately it didn’t come until we asked one of the waiters about it after we had all finished. When it finally came the waiter claimed he though she would of wanted it after everyone was finished, even though she was the only person to order a coffee. We shared our upset with the vegetarian option to a lovely waitress, who said that the Linguini had only been out for a week on their menu, but when we brought it up again to the waiter when paying the bill he said that vegetarian food just didn’t fit with their demographic and they hadn’t had complaints before, even though I have read a few on the reviews. It’s a lovely place but I definitely think it needs some work with its vegetarian menu standard.

Nov 2024: I’ve just this minute finished a Sunday roast. Crikey! Perfectly cooked, fresh and really tasty. The best roast dinner I’ve had - and that includes the Chequers at Fingest.

Just had the best meal out that I had in ages at court farm. I had the roasted mackerel, New potatoes and salad followed by the white chocolate and brioche bread and butter pudding. I highly recommend court farm. We will be back!

Delightful Sunday lunch - all piping hot and delicious - despite us being a tableful with a mix of carnivore, vegan and vegi! The star of the show was the superb vegan choc tart - with vegan ice cream - best dessert ever - and I’m not even vegan!!!

The staff were cheerful and friendly, and we enjoyed soft scones with clotted cream and jam. The hot chocolate for the kids was delicious too. The brownie could have been a bit less sweet, but the cheesecake was lovely. It's a good place to stop after seeing Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. (8 minutes by car) There is a paid parking lot (£1.90 for 2 hours) opposite the cafe, but coins are the only option, so if you want to pay by card, grab the cafe's wifi (no password) and use Ringgo. You can pay through the app. It's a soft, crumbly style scone, and it's large so you can eat one per person. Only the cream tea set (tea + scone + jam/cream) is listed on the menu, but you can also order the scone alone (jam/cream costs extra). It doesn't taste amazing, but the staff is friendly and it's easy to enjoy.
