Stumbled across The Cafe on the Green while driving across the Moors. I will definitely make a point of going again if I return to Dartmoor. Best quality food from a ‘cafe’ I have ever had. Probably best ‘cafe’ I’ve ever been to! Not sure if I should be telling everyone! Thanks for making my day!

We grabbed breakfast at the cafe on Good Friday. We both got the breakfast, it was cooked perfectly, delicious and piping hot. The service was great, quick, and friendly. We also had the hash browns, they were like little hash brown balls, so tasty, I have no idea what that other review was on about.

We went for lunch today, Saturday, to enjoy a sunny day out with my wife, daughter, sister-in-law, and small children. Unfortunately, it was my worst food experience in the UK. It’s possible to offer something simple, but it must have good flavour—which was completely missing. The fries were the only redeemable item. I even told my wife that the slice of bread was "the best part of the plate." I tried to make up for it by tasting the burger one of the kids had left untouched, and it was inedible. It was ridiculously overpriced for the quality of the food served. My daughter found the soup to be good, but the rest of us had the experience I just described. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and attentive. Avoid eating there.

We have always come to Cafe On The Green as we enjoy the atmosphere and the food. However, today, we visited for Mothering Sunday as a family of 4 and ordered what we normally have when we attend for breakfast. We were shocked that the portion size had decreased, yet the price seemed to have increased.. our bill was just over £86. This was for 4 breakfasts, 3 hot drinks, and 2 juices. This is outrageous, and when you think you could travel an extra 20 minutes and visit Fox Tor Cafe in Princetown and have a big breakfast with a hot drink and an orange juice all for just over £10.. a breakfast alone at the Cafe On The Green is priced at £15.75 and then an extra £4.00 for a hot drink and then an extra £3.00 for a juice. It's a pity as the Cafe On The Green used to be a pleasure to visit but it feels like we are paying for all the additional staff they seem to have, with an impact on the customer with smaller portions delivered to the table.

I hesitate to post a review as having been a professional cook for many years and cooked for thousands of people, bad reviews are not always productive. However having experienced a less than satisfactory breakfast at the Cafe on the Green I cannot let the experience go as there were major failings with my meal. The bacon was smoked (which was not mentioned on the menu and should have been as not everybody likes smoked food) and had been so overcooked as to be rendered inedible. When I went to cut into it, it shattered across the table it was so dry; the menu said mini hash browns but what were on my plate were NOT hash browns. Hash browns are julienned or grated potato which are cooked until golden; what came on this breakfast were pomme noisette shaped balls of potato that had been deep fried in what tasted like rancid fat and could have been bought at any budget supermarket. If you want to serve a breakfast potato you should at least call it what it is and not something that it is clearly not. The brace of fried eggs were flat on the plate, no depth to them, one with a solid yolk and the other almost solid, and had a dreadful oily rancid taste as did the mushrooms. At £15 this was way overpriced for what was delivered. Did I complain to the staff at the time, no I didn't and I should have done so that is my fault; we all have different tastes but there is no excuse for badly cooked and tasteless oily food.

I’m gluten free as I’m coeliac. Not only is this a most attractive venue, but the staff took great care to make sure I was fully informed about what food would be ok for me to eat, and did so in a kind and helpful manner (not always the case in restaurants). What’s more the food was delicious! The tomatoes and baguettes can all be done with gluten free bread. In so many restaurants this means you get small portions as a slice of gluten free bread is always much smaller than a normal loaf. Here I was given TWO toasties to compensate for that. Roasted red pepper, mozzarella , falafel and pesto accompanied by a huge serving of salad leaves. Fantastic. I’ll definitely be back. Coeliacs take note!

Well, not been here for years and didn't realise it had been totally refurbished. What a treat. Went here on offchance as we could not get in anywhere for Mother's Day. I can honestly say this was the best cream tea I have had in this area for a long time. The Cafe was heaving but was given a table within 15 minutes and the staff were fantastic. It was so well organised I was amazed, considering how many people were in there. Lovely tea. Loose leaf and home made perfect scones. Well done. I will be back 👍 Came back today, still as good. Other visitors please note, service level here is exceptionally high, and I’m not just saying that to help with my soup request!

The staff were cheerful and friendly, and we enjoyed soft scones with clotted cream and jam. The hot chocolate for the kids was delicious too. The brownie could have been a bit less sweet, but the cheesecake was lovely. It's a good place to stop after seeing Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. (8 minutes by car) There is a paid parking lot (£1.90 for 2 hours) opposite the cafe, but coins are the only option, so if you want to pay by card, grab the cafe's wifi (no password) and use Ringgo. You can pay through the app. It's a soft, crumbly style scone, and it's large so you can eat one per person. Only the cream tea set (tea + scone + jam/cream) is listed on the menu, but you can also order the scone alone (jam/cream costs extra). It doesn't taste amazing, but the staff is friendly and it's easy to enjoy.

We were welcomed with incredibly friendly service to this delightful pub. The menu was extremely enticing, making it very difficult to choose! We decided to start with the scallops and the creamy mushrooms, which were both utterly superb. We both chose to follow with the haunch of venison. Perfectly cooked with delicious gravy and the most sumptuous mash. Sadly we were too full for dessert, but our next trip we will aim to take up that challenge! Definitely will return. Fantastic.

Excellent place! We were on holiday in Devon and we wanted to do a more special picnic, so we found this place and what a surprise! Amazing sandwiches, super good fillings, good quality ingredients, freshly made, and delicious cakes all at a very good price. We would definitely be back.

Excellent, loved the location. Cottage was cosy and warm. Games room a big bonus too.
