Don't bother with this pub they think they are an expensive Michelin star restaurant judging by the prices and size of the dishes. I ordered a medium red wine as well and was charged £12.50 !!! and the bar man did even fill up the measure unit (175ml) up so I overpaid and didn't even get what I paid for....and a bottle of water for £5.50 ...ridiculous.

Eamonn Ref: 3704

Disappointed. I was really looking forward to visiting The Holly Bush in Hampstead for a Sunday roast, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Service was painfully slow from start to finish. Our roast dinners took nearly an hour to arrive, and we constantly had to flag down the waitstaff to get any attention. When the food finally came, one of our group had to send their beef back because it was too tough to eat. The waiter was quite standoffish about it and mentioned the kitchen might already be closed, which didn’t feel like a helpful or accommodating response. The roast itself was very average—not terrible, but definitely not worth the long wait. To make matters worse, one of our roasts was brought out 10 minutes after everyone else’s, and the same thing happened with dessert, with two arriving 10 minutes late. Speaking of dessert, that took nearly 30 minutes to come after ordering. To top it all off, when we asked to remove the service charge due to the poor experience, the manager seemed visibly annoyed, despite the multiple issues we had. They also forgot to deduct our deposit from the final bill, and we had to remind them twice before it was sorted. Overall, for the price and reputation of The Holly Bush, I expected much better service and food. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t rush back

Unique iconic cozy pub/restaurant that we had visited for a Sunday roast. They should stick to pub classics and quit trying to be anything else. Dinner should be served with a microscope, so you can find the food on your plate. They were out of “salad” and out of some desserts. The coffee machine was broken so no coffee. My hake was a 2x2 inch piece of bland unseasoned fish with a mushy pea concoction that was soup. The mushroom ravioli came as four normal size ravioli. Four. About £6 per ravioli. We debated going to McDonalds on the way home. A+ place and atmosphere. D- for food and value.

Our son had tried to book dinner here but they were fully booked so we popped in for drinks having eaten somewhere else. It's a lovely, atmospheric pub but was just so noisy, we found it hard to have any type of conversation. Perhaps it was just pre- Christmas excitement but a couple of large parties seemed unable to converse without shouting.

Excellent lunch in Hampstead - one of my favorite meals of our week long trip in London. Yes, it is expensive, but the food is delicious and we had a great experience with the service as well. We went with our 11 month old daughter, and they happily brought her a highchair and the staff were fawning over her throughout the meal so we felt very welcome to be there with her.

A beautiful English pub about a 5minute walk from Hampstead station. Aesthetically from the outside it’s picturesque and the interiors are also lovely. Menu is rather pricey and fancy for lunch but they also offered a burger and fish n chips which was off the menu. Wait staff were not particularly welcoming but was happy to be on my own.

DRINK Ginger Beer, not the best choice on my part but I was not drinking so please let’s ignore this awful decision of mine. I think a Chardonnay for the starter and a Pinot Noir for the lamb would have worked nicely. I will need to repeat the experience so to get it perfectly right this time. STARTER Crispy Baby Squid MAIN Marinated Lamb Rack DESSERT Blackberry & sloe gin trifle Rate from 1 to 10: 8.0 Service: 8.0 It was really lovely, the only reason it is not a better score is because the delay with the salt and sugar (at different times). Too long waiting time. Pubs can be such wonderful places, the concept of them certainly is, but their fast pace, usually crowded interiors and festive atmosphere make the service and food usually be more orientated towards “comfort” making one feel in a “home-like” environment, where warmth and informality is the norm, what is expected and what is wanted. I think the Holly Bush in Hampstead with all its history, charm, lovely interiors and good customer service is a rare mix between pub and a gourmet restaurant. The bread and the butter with garlic and herbs was beautiful. The starter was, for me, the right opening: tasty, crispy (as promised), with a hint of spice and freshness in the lovely tomato and red onion salsa and the mayonnaise that made every flavour and texture complement each other. The main course was beautifully presented (sorry the picture I was too keen to taste it, and did not take the picture at the right time), the lamb was juicy, medium rare for me, good flavour accompanied by a roasted red onion and prune croquette with a mint jus. I have to say the croquette was too tasty when in contrast with the lamb, I think a more subtle choice would have worked better. The onion and the mint jus were a nice pairing however I have to say the choice of flavours made the outcome feel a bit “juvenile”, a very light, sort of summery dish. Lovely don’t get me wrong but as my red wine I love meat food with “body”. The dessert was just OK I enjoyed the fact that was not sweet, but it was a bit insipid for me. Decoration: 8 Lovely kept Victorian interiors, charming, welcoming

Called from ireland in February to make a reservation for March as we were travelling to London with my mother in law as her late husband had just passed away and they got married in the holly bush in 1986 and she wanted to see the place again. I was told by whoever answered the phone no probs, just come in, no need to make a reservation. When we arrived we were told we needed a reservation. I explained I had phoned over 6 weeks ago and we had travelled from ireland especially to come here. The staff basically called us liars and said we didn't call. I explained we had come especially from ireland as my grieving mother in law wanted to have lunch in the place she got married and we were told to leave the premises. Zero compassion and again we were called liars. My crying mother in law and wife were inconsolable, not to mention my children who had to be comforted with seeing mom and granny crying. I'm so disappointed and saddened. Holly bush, u are a letdown

Not what it use to be. Approached this pub to find an overbearing bouncer outside - why? Only to find the rude manager inside. She was completely disorganised and seemingly unaware of our booking! Not welcoming at all. Fortunately a forward thinking young man behind the bar, an Australian barman greeted us with a warm smile and arranged for one of the waiters to sort out our seat. Whilst waiting in the front bar, we were served excellent cocktails by the same Aussie barman. Honestly, it looks like he keeps the place afloat! Thank goodness for his charm and humour. Much needed here. We were seated upstairs which was pretty noisy. The food was good but it depended on what you ordered. In comparison to other British pubs it’s quite expensive and there are better ones in Hampstead. The waiters upstairs seem to spend a lot of time not serving the patrons upstairs. Once again what is the point of the manager if she isn’t aware of what’s going on upstairs?

This pub needs to think about its prices. Yesterday (12th February) I stopped in here with a friend and was charged £28.80 for 2 large glasses of sauvignon blanc, I nearly fell over. A bottle was £40 which when we looked up sells for £9.50 in tesco. I know there is a mark up for drinking in a pub, I accept that, but come on be reasonable. I know this is a famous pub and Hampstead is an expensive area but this is not acceptable. I should of walked out, I wish I did. A member of staff heard me complaining to my friend, good. You need to address this, it is totally unreasonable. I will never come back here again.

Popped in to have a drink & some lunch on a Wednesday afternoon & after ordering a pint at the bar I sat down in the “restaurant” area which was virtually empty. Think only two tables were taken & couldn’t see “reserved” signs on any of the others, including the table I’d sat at. Within literally 10 seconds the girl on the till by the door brusquely told me that I’d have to move to the bar as the table I’d sat at was booked. Made no effort to ask if I was intending to eat or offer me a different table. When I left 25 mins later most tables were still unoccupied. Girl behind the bar though was very welcoming & polite. Maybe they should put her on the till by the door….

Had a very enjoyable Sunday roast at the Holly Bush a couple of years back, so decided to take some visiting friends there for dinner. Most of the dishes were fine, with the exception of a quite tasteless vegetarian main. Certainly it did not live up to its 'gastropub' label and prices. Unfortunately, we did not have the enjoyable evening we were expectling. The service was poor: a glum waitress who was not professional enough --or not trained properly -- so as to inform us of the dishes that were missing from the menu, and there were quite a few. It is quite frustrating to make a choice once and then be disappointed and have to select another dish. The dessert menu was especially limited.

An item was missed off our table, and we had to wait 25 minutes for it to be brought out to the table, and at that point, everyone else had finished eating The food was bland and didn’t really taste of anything And unfortunately for the quality that you were served, you can get it cheaper at other establishments locally. Christmas Day and a really poor effort. Couldn’t be bothered to have the mulled wine ready by 1.00pm and for a pub, didn’t have any crisps! Blamed this on lorry drivers. There’s a Costco 20 minutes drive away and a Tesco 100 mts down the...

My sister and I (both seniors) stopped at the Holly Bush for lunch recently. One table was occupied, and the host said he couldn't take us without a reservation. After I noted that the place was almost empty, he said we could have a table....

Lovely looking pub, nice table. But everything went down hill . Very slow service just to order drinks , then our meal. No kids menu. Lovely waitress but had no idea about menu or drinks etc. Our son accidentally knocked a glass over no one...

My family booked Holly Bush for early Sunday supper while we were visiting, based on a Times article recommendation - but regrettably it was a disaster. A friendly welcome from the restaurant manager who showed us to our table but from then on things went...

Had a Sunday roast here at tea time. Nice place, service very good. It’s part of the Fullers chain and the food was reflective of that. We had a nice time.

I first visited last year in August and loved the atmosphere and location, so much so that I grabbed a cab out of the city to come back today. Not disappointed. Lovely place in beautiful location hidden away in a beautiful, tiny street in Hampstead...

This is a nice pub, good setting, well-kept beer and attentive service. But it was a very disappointing late Sunday lunch. The starter was a lobster tart and was pretty good - a decent amount of lobster, not too cold and so was quite tasty....

Really like this place. The food is always on point and just what you’d hope for. I prefer the front bar area for eating myself, the COVID situation has impacted this place, no doubt but, they are still turning out fantastic service. I’m looking forward...

Visited my good friend who is a local and had a bite to eat here one evening. Food was really delicious and the staff were very helpful. The pub itself was warm and cosy with a really welcoming atmosphere. The log fires are a winner especially on a cold winters night! The staff were lovely, friendly and very relaxed, it really didn't matter that I wasn't a local, I felt at home. Definitely going back when next in the area!!

Ya he escrito mi crítica.

Celebrating our youngest finishing GCSEs with a takeaway of his choice - Chinese, so decided on Oriental Express, ordered 5 adult meals, worst of which was the Chef’s special “Triple Roast Special” (Duck, Chicken, Spare ribs) the ribs were gritty and meatless, the chicken tasteless and obviously pre cooked hours earlier and chopped into the sauce the duck like leather, sauce gloopy and tasteless. Do not ever order this dish. Just awful. Next chef special was the “Crispy shredded chicken with chilli sauce” the chicken was tough, not crispy, in a bland gloopy sauce very disappointing. Wouldn’t normally give a bad review, but this really was not good enough and very very disappointing for the overall cost, will not be going back.

We had a wonderful dining experience with our family. The service was excellent- warm, welcoming, and attentive. The menu offers a great variety of delicious dishes, including plenty of vegetarian options. Our favourites were the mini spring rolls, and we even tried the seaweed soup—it was delicious. The Thai vegetable curry was flavourful, and the banana dessert was a perfect sweet finish. Highly recommend.

Rubbish Chinese! Say they close at 10pm on google and door locked at 9.30pm when we knocked on the door they peek around the corner and ignore us..never bothering to come here again not even the decency to say they are closing early! China kitchen all the way!

The food here has always been just ok, but tonight, overcooked, burnt smelling food. We tried to eat it as we’d made the effort to collect it and didn’t really want to have the hassle of taking it back. If they had any pride it should never of left the kitchen door!!!! Most went in the bin. Im not a fussy eater but this was terrible. Never again, complete waste of money.

They are very organised, have never got our orders wrong, always deliver within the timescale. The food tastes lovely and is reasonably priced.
