This is a brilliant stop off for travellers using Waterloo Station. Utilising an archway under the Waterloo East to Charing Cross railway, the pub has a massive central bar, a front snug and a beer garden. A large selection of beers and ciders are on offer.

It's a station pub. The turnover of customers is high given that many are simply dropping in before crossing the road to depart on a train from Waterloo Station opposite. It's the kind of place my mum would call spit and sawdust. And all the better for it in my opinion. I was in here for 3 or 4 rounds just relaxing before my super-saver, mighty-fine, off-peak, limited-option, travel-only-on-a-day-with-a-Z-in-it ticket became viable. The range of beer is impressive. Some 20 or so draught beers covering all the usuals, IPA, lagers, ales and several ciders. Not so many options for wine drinkers but gin enthusiasts will find several decent choices here. The staff, on a busy football (and Grand National) Saturday, were quick and friendly and played a large part in my decision to stay rather than pub hop. The other factor is price. Not many pubs this close to the centre of town sell beer around £5/pint so this is a very bank manager friendly option. You won't be bringing a date here but this is a proper boozer with a cosy little beer garden and is worth a thousand of any of your crappy Wetherspoons or other pub chains. Raise a toast to The Hole In The Wall!

Service is so poor and staff are rude! Went in to watch the rugby, ordered a vodka lemonade and it tasted terrible and carbonated (like the lemonade syrup had gone). Went to the bar to get them to sort and the barmaid acted like they had no clue what I was talking about, ended up buying a different drink to save myself the hassle. 2nd barmaid we dealt with could do with some customer service training.

Over the years I have come to love this pub. Wasn’t initially impressed, but I wasn’t giving it a fair crack. If I go into London and land in at Waterloo then 90% of the time I head straight in here for a drink. Not necessarily alcohol, it’s not that! But yes, quite often it is. 😜 It has a great atmosphere. There is a sports type bar at the back and a tiny but lovely traditional pub style bar at the front. A small garden area, paved, for the dry days. Although that’s usually full with smokers so I very rarely use it.

Very rude barmaid the bar. As we were waiting to order at the bar there was a bit of a queue. My friend had to get a train back so he casually mentioned to me he didn’t want to wait too long to be served. The barmaid overheard him, she then rudely butted in on our conversation and aggressively confronted us as if we were blaming her and she said there was another bar, which we were unaware of as it was our first time there. My friend then apologised for the misunderstanding but she then proceeded to snap at him and say “you better be” which then caused a massive argument that involved her calling my friend an “ugly c*nt” in front of a load of other guests. Nasty and abusive service (saying that as someone who has worked in hospitality). You can’t take out your anger on guests like that.

I’ve been to the hole in the wall many times and usually have a fantastic time. I was there again yesterday and was having a wonderful time. The pub got really busy and as I was making my way back from the bathroom one of your staff (short, mid 20s maybe, slim, brown shoulder length hair and glasses) tripped over my foot. I did the typical British thing of “oo I’m sorry, I’m sorry” expecting her to do similar as she was the one who had not been looking where she was going and tripped over me, however, instead she turned around stormed back over to me, got in my face and yelled “maybe you should watch where you’re putting your feet!!” Before storming off. I’ve never had any issue with the staff before. I honestly love coming here but this experience was just pure nasty and seemingly out of nowhere. I know it was busy but I used to work in a pub and I’ve done plenty of shifts when it’s been at least that busy and never once have I thought it appropriate to scream in a customers face the way she did. 🚇 Waterloo 🍺 £4.70 Pravha ❤️ A Waterloo institution, nestled under the arches. . Station pubs can be very hit and miss but now again you come across an absolute blinder. . The Hole In The Wall is situated in a railway arch just below the tracks going in and out of Waterloo Station. This is a two bar pub with a large bar at the back and a smaller bar at the front. I visited on a Saturday lunchtime and decided to plot up in the back bar to watch the Arsenal v Villa game. The pub was busy and there was a great atmosphere and buzz about the place. . This independent pub has an extensive beer choice, I opted for a Pravha which was decent and under a fiver. This is a no cash boozer even though the pubs name suggests otherwise. . The decor here is traditional and mixed, the back bar has a bit of a working man’s club feel to it which I love, no frills and an excellent social space. The front bar is a little bit more elegant with proper copper tables, plenty of wood panelling and a more relaxed feel. There is a small beer garden at the rear which has a TV so you don’t miss any of a game if you pop out for a salmon. . As I sat in this pub with the rumble of trains above my head, I couldn’t help but admire this place. This is a station boozer but the majority of punters here weren’t waiting for the 5.45pm train to New Malden, they were here for the beer. During the week this pub is also a firm favourite for post work pre commute beers. . The holeinthewall_waterloo was an excellent visit, great beer choice, great atmosphere, great surroundings. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 19/03/22
