7 old godgers gathered for a bevvy or 2 before setting off for a pre-arranged lunch. We have been to the HITW many times, but this visit was notable for the quality of the Guinness, perfectly poured by the lady behind the bar.

Been coming here off and on for the last 40 years, when back in the day, real ale was the exception rather than the rule. A lovely, unpretentious boozer refreshingly unmodernised. Friendly staff, the beer is always well kept and the prices reasonable for central London. If real ale is your thing and you prefer a proper pub to the pretentious joints in the area, you won't go far wrong.

What a shame , a great little bar tucked away by Waterloo station . I’ve been coming here for years , but the service has absolutely nosedived. It’s service with a grudge. I stood in the little bar at the front waiting to be served, the male server was clearly unhappy I didn’t walk into the other room to be served , it was 2.55 on a Saturday and he was unhappy as he has to close down the bar for 5.00pm - welcome to the hole in the wall. If you don’t serve in that bar - put a sign up. Lots of people walked in , waited and left. He had time to retire to the kitchen to chat and play on his phone. Really sad to write a review like this because it should be a welcoming and hidden gem

After a long walk around London we made our way to Waterloo station. Train was 30 mins away so we decided to go for a drink. We passed by this pub so many times and we were pleasantly surprised. Drinks are well cheap considered the area ( on south bank there are pop up bars where they charge you £10-£15 for ONE COCKTAIL in plastic cup, yes, you’ve got the view but I mean…that’s a rip off). Service was quick, all sorts of people were there. 2 rooms, one on the left when you walk in, another one in front of you which is bigger and there’s a garden where you’re free to smoke. Definitely loads of characters but we enjoyed it!

Pros: Right next door to Waterloo for a last drink before you jump on the train. A really good selection of ales, craft beer, lager and stout including Anspach & Hobday London Black (which has to be the best stout brewed in the capital IMO). There is a very large main bar where sports are shown, and a smaller more intimate bar on the station side of the pub. Bar staff are friendly and engaging. Cons: Can't think of anything that would stop me going. The smaller bar can fill up at busy times so you may not get a seat (but that's the same with most pubs in London). Conclusion: A good traditional pub, with great beer, friendly staff, and very convenient for trains from/to Waterloo. Love it.

Called in for a lunchtime drink as we had 1 hour to kill before our train departed Waterloo. What a good find! A proper old fashioned drinking pub. no music or food, good service, good beer and peace and quiet. Spot on! Here's my 2nd visit/review - Called in again on 19th June 2023 at Lunch time for a drink, the pub and the beer is just as good as my 1st visit. However, the young lady who was the only one serving was so miserable and rude that I wonder why she does this job!! She made me feel that I was being a nuisance ordering drinks! I did not take it personally as she was like it with other people, but you judge a pub on how the staff treat you, and on this occasion it was not great.
