The High Tide in Brighton and Hove

Really poor offering for fish and chips. Low quality fish and frozen oven chips. Certainly not cheap as chips either. However, a convenient location and the staff were great.

Unfortunately a quite bad experience there. We ordered two portions of fries, waited for 30 minutes until I went back to check the order which never has been prepared. Then the staff was saying that the food had been taken by somebody else as a take away, however we ordered food to eat in. Furthermore we were looking at the kitchen all along and the place was quiet, the chef was outside chatting. So not the best experience, the fries were good though.

High tide has a nice ambience, food was good and value for money as they don't charge small things like ketchup, staff was warm and friendly.

Avoid this place - there are plenty of others nearby. Every aspect of our visit was disappointing - the staff are rude l, the food is awful and the toilets are dirty

Although service and the overall atmosphere are amazing, I have to warn of my experience with the food. The only thing I ate yesterday which my wife ate also. I had a chicken ceasar salad and she had prawns. I did eat one of her prawns and she also had some chicken from my salad. I was in hospital all night with food poisoning and my wife followed being sick shortly after.

Horrible service. Prices kept changing. Staff are probably pocketing cash!! Food was oily and stale. What has happened to this place? I have eaten here a few times in the last few years and each time it gets worse. I won’t be returning. Table was dirty and the staff could do with an upgrade. All of them miserable and over the hill! (Rude and one of them was eating while cooking 😡 and shouting loudly in her own language ) Very unprofessional and rude. A lot of fake reviews on here. Usually written by people that the staff know every time someone dares to complain. To the owner…… Get new staff!

Despite no table service the staff were amazing. The young staff were really friendly and good with my baby and dog. The food was good, we ate oysters and scampi. The best service I have had in Brighton the team really made us feel welcome.

I order some food but then, it took them one hour to bring me the food. They forgot about my order while my friends had their in the right time. Ashaming.

We ordered a burger, fries, salmon and a salad. The food was o.k and so was the service. There are tables spread out and it was comfortable as we sat there and finished our meal. The price in such places is anyways always high so one should be prepared to pay more. Ambience- Open Air Place Price- High Service- Decent.

Sadly had an awful experience here. Although the staff were nice, we left very quickly. Firstly the bartender didn’t know what my partner’s drink order was, and then when we ordered our food came within under 10 minutes; we should’ve been suspicious by these things. When the food came, my rice was warm and stuck together clearly had been microwaved. The salad was undressed and bland, I’m not sure if it was even washed. My partner’s scampi was like very bad quality. The worst part was the cheese sauce substance on my chicken, which tasted of sick. I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth all night, didn’t touch the rest of my meal, and could barely eat anything because of how unwell I felt. Was very upset, but I feel bad complaining about things so we immediately left without a word. It’s a shame as it’s a perfect location and polite staff, but we wouldn’t recommend.

One of the waitresses was really rude and refused to give us an extra plate until we asked another waiter for one. She walked up to us with an unpleasant look on her face and with an attitude and plopped the plate down without even giving us a look. Caught her giving us dirty looks and chatting to other staff about it. Would not recommend coming here if you're looking for a pleasant and relaxing experience.

One of the waitresses was very unprofessional. My partner ordered at the bar for us as i sat down at one of the tables. Everything seemed perfectly fine until our food came. Another waiter came with our burgers AND fries and we told him we didn’t order fries, but we decided to take it anyway since we initially thought we hadn’t paid for it. Turns out, they had charged us with fries anyway despite the waitress at the bar repeating the order back to my partner correctly. We let it go anyway because it isn’t a big deal. Then we asked for two plates to share the food, and this waitress replied back with “Can I just give you one?” with an unpleasant look on her face. The restaurant was NOT full whatsoever, only a few tables were occupied, but even if it was full, they should have enough plates anyway. When she left, I caught her giving us a dirty look and speaking to one of the other staff inside the bar. We don’t understand what we did to get this reaction from her. We ended up asking another waiter for another plate and the same waitress who was acting unprofessional and childish came over with the plate, didn’t even look at us and quickly put the plate on our table. This behaviour is unacceptable. We’re disappointed because we come here often, and usually service is very good.

Delicious food amazing customer service

I asked for a coke 5 times. Waitress brought beer twice and had to explain it's not what I ordered. I never received my drink. The waitress then said our table ordered 3 fish&chips which was not the case. Very chaotic and disorganised. No apology.

Had my lunch here and ordered fish and chips . Fish was bit oily and not very tasty but ok to try near the beach . Service was quick and order came in about 10mins .

Love this restaurant dog-friendly the most important for me, the very good view and the food service are brilliant too, they have a very nice coconut ice latte., butter chip and also squid no rubbering, every time and my partner I go brighton we go this restaurant highly recommended 😋

Awful place. Incorrect orders, extra items we didn’t order, £10.80 for the worst sausage and chips and I’ve ever eaten and £5.60 for a Diet Coke. Absolute shambles of a place.

I've never seen a fillet of fish so thin before, and what they call "tempura" is just a crumbed. Nice spot on the beach for a cold beer, but if you order food, disappointment is guaranteed

TINY PORTION SIZE & RIP OFF! AVOID

One of the worst restaurant I've ever been, I have ordered fish and chips it was definitely not worth 12£ the fish was horrible and the chips was definitely from industry... The services was bad at all, in most of restaurant the waiter come and ask you what would you order, but here the customers need to go to the counter to order :/ . Another thing is in most restaurant, they serve you and your friend or family at the same time but here I got served 10minutes before my friend. Not going to lie but you're looking for a good fish and chips don't eat in this restaurant, their fish and chips is even worse than a lot of kebab's one. Edit : I had strong stomach issues after eating here. The food was certainly expired.

When we came, the weather was too windy and the sea was choppy. Apart from that, the food was actually nice and services were great.👍

The food was ok. It's not something that it's WOW. Occasionally it's good to eat there. The food don't seem to be fresh, it's more like frozen food ( I'm no expert but considering we do cook at home, it didn't taste like fresh food). I'm only giving 4 stars as the staff was

Currently still waiting for a pint and cocktail I ordered 20 mins ago! Asked staff and they said they would go and check and then they are no where to be seen… Deffo won’t be staying for round 2

Good service fast and efficient

All of their mayonnaise was expired and the fish and chips definitely weren’t worth 12£. I don’t think they would pass a hygiene inspection :/ Clearly only charging for the location.

Our first visit to the revamped Amsterdam and the result is a very pleasant surprise. We came here for dinner and the pub was very busy. I ordered the ribeye steak medium-rare and was surprised that it came cooked exactly as ordered. Far better restaurants fail in this respect. It is also very good value. My wife ordered sea bream which was good, but the heritage potatoes were hard and undercooked and had to be sent back. It took a few minutes to get the attention of a waitress who said she would get them wamed up (that wasn't the problem). Having understood that she took the potatoes away returned a few minutes later something more edible. Service is the main problem, it needs to be re-organised. It was a Friday evening, the pub was busy but in our bar there was mostly only one person serving and she wasn't always on hand. It took a long time to get our food order taken and getting subsequent drinks orders took even longer. I don't mind waiting while staff serve other customers but I do mind waiting for long periods at an unattended bar. Food is brought to your table by waitresses but they don't come back and check if things are OK or to see if you want to order more drinks or more food. If you are having a meal you don't want to have to go to the bar and wait to order drinks while your food goes cold. A pub bar should never be left unattended like this. If the management could sort out the service behind the bar and at the table this would be a much better pub to visit. The staff are good, but service needs to be rethought.

Beautiful location at the sea. Other than that a no-go! The whole place and the food is very unsanitary! 2 friends and I all had fish and chips. One of us threw up several times afterwards, the other friend and I had stomach issues the next day. On top of that it was the worst fish and chips I ever had and quite expensive! Staff doesn’t make an effort to be nice, there’s only one dirty toilet you can’t lock. Avoid at all costs!

Came here for a drink with friends, the cocktails are great and the service was very good. Nice outdoor seating with good music, perfect place to watch the sunset.

Had great day out as group coach trip from London. Come late afternoon we all. Craved fish n chips. So we doubled to the beach where earlier we spotted High Tide. The service was good. The staff were young and motivated. The food and service was good. The large seagulls looked a little threatening, otherwise no trouble.

Disabled toilet out of use. No lock on mixed use single other toilet. Staff aren't trusted to take orders at the table. Thoroughly impolite management. Wine is the worst quality ever. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid

If you're taking meal for baby get one portion. If you wanna feed yourself get two or three portions... Staff friendly.

Food was okay but ridiculously expensive. £6.50 for 6 whitebait, Over £1.00 per fish! Really? £6.50 for 5 pieces of salt and pepper squid. Rip off Britain at it's best.

Portions are small and overpriced for what you get. I ordered the “Large” Cod and chips. It was actually a small cod. The peas were served in a tiny condiments bowl that a gnome wouldn’t have been able to bathe in. There was about 1 tablespoons worth of peas and I left feeling hungry. My friend ordered another main dish The teriyaki salmon £12. This gets you two slivers of very tasty and absolutely no side dish. Therefore more measily chips were bought at £4.00. The Pina coladas came in two different sized goblets, and so no consistency in the drinks either. In summary: Overpriced as expected at a beach venue (which I wouldn’t have minded). However the child sized portions were disappointing and I left with a sad “fishy taste” my mouth. Absolute codswallop and not recommended.

Food was okay. Some of the drinks are a no go, absolutely horrible looking maragarita (never seen something like that before). It felt a bit strange that staff was always looking to take stuff out of the tables like they were inviting us to get out of the place although it was empty. Overall, I would not recommend.

Absolutely fabulous location to watch the sunset. Great range of cocktails made to order and our server Alice was friendly and efficient.

Avoid..unhygienic and expensive place. Ordered a fish in chips at £10+ and it came with a hair. They brought over condiments salt shaker came with a few hairs too...clearly unsanitary restaurant charging arm and a leg for cheap eats and drinks, just because it's by the sea front. Note to owner, clean and sanitize your nasty condiments rack. Disgusting place.

Good luck eating here, the chips were disgusting the fish super oily as you can see in the picture!!! All the tables around us were asking the staff to take back the plates or even leaving before ordering anything. I don’t know how a restaurant like this can be open and I don’t understand the good reviews about the good food!! Avoid at all costs!

Avoid at all costs, paid a very high price for what looked like a kids meal, overcooked chips and undercooked fish! When I asked the owner if they probe and temperature check the food before serving it (which is required by law) the owners response was “please look at my fryers they are very hot” so I would suggest they do not even follow H&S regulations! Looks like a Health Inspection is overdue!

Fish & Chips was served Raw on 2 Separate occasions so asked for a refund that was given but not apologie from arrogant manager, Very shocked that this company does not care about serving un cooked food, The batter on Fish was 5mm thick and greasy Shocking Shocking

When you order a cocktail from the menu and the barstaff ask what it is, you know you should probably stop them there. Sadly, this decision was not made by us. Terrible cocktail made with minimal effort. Avoid!

The food was ok, but it was very clean, the tables and chairs were cleaned within 30 seconds of the guest leaving, they even cleaned the legs on the chairs, highly recommend.

Tectonic plates drift faster than the High Tide served our food. Fortunately, the staff were friendly and the music loud. However, if you are looking for a swift bite to eat, perhaps consider harvesting your own produce or rearing your own cattle rather than come here. (Should mention, we did get a free cocktail to make up for the wait).

Great food at fair prices on seafront. Great find. Fish and chips on seafront quality was really good, light crispy batter, fresh fish, chunky chips. Nice service and enjoyable outdoor seating. Will be back to try alternatives on menu. Fresh water for thirsty puppy. Lovely service.
