Beers are great, shuffle board is great, the food is average. Service is 50/50 depending on who you get when you go in, sometimes it's kind and informative and keen, other times we've been made to feel like we are too much bother for choosing to go there. Generally, a good time

Tuve una celebración aquí para la familia y amigos de mi padre que murió recientemente. El personal no podría haber sido más servicial y servicial. Seccionaron una gran área del bar para mi fiesta de invitados. Recomendaría encarecidamente este lugar para cualquiera que quiera tener una celebración informal de cualquier tipo.

Great beers and helpful staff to guide you through

Great friendly staff, Greg was great with beer recommendations and tasters. Great fun playing shuffleboard whilst drinking quality ales, great afternoon.

Good place for a drink and food ain't bad either. Can get very busy but staff work hard to get you sorted.

Visited Friday evening, a little quiet after Christmas. Sampled some different ale Three Kings, wasn't bad. Guinness better though.

This is our favourite. They made a nice birthday for my partner and every time they are nice and we have a fabulous drunken time.

Great atmosphere for meeting colleagues for after work.

Great pub for drinking with your friends, or a quick pint after work. A great range of beers, that are kept well and range in price, I found the customer service to be friendly and the bar staff knowledgeable about the beer they serve. Even when busy, the amount of space that the pub has, means that you usually are able to get a seat/table no problem, with it central location, it usually the meeting place for a start of a night out with friends.

Really love this place, atmosphere excellent, staff friendly and helpful,good selection of locally crafted beers and very good DJ who plays a good selection of music.

Went here for a drink only,just had the one certainly couldn't have anymore it's expensive.

Attended a Christmas Party here and was genuinely disappointed. The bar and staff were friendly and the atmosphere was good. DJ was ok and played a lot of hits. The food was the real let down. We had a large group, but it was all delivered to one table, which led to a massive queue. They ran out plates after about half the guests were served and there was no labelling or separation for vegetarian or other dietary requirements. One person in our group was left with a parsnip, which was all that was available. A real let down in comparison to the previous year where the food was labelled properly, spread over 2 tables (with enough to feed everyone) and an overall better selection.

It was OK, very busy and very warm inside

We were there for a works party. Hard-working staff made it go with a swing. Good range of beers, decent food, and a relaxed atmosphere . Happy to go again.

Been coming here for a while now and to be honest, for a 'City Centre Chain Pub' this place is wonderful. Myself and the Wife would recommend it to anybody. Everytime we come in the staff are amazing. They look after us as if we were not just 'Punters' but friends. Shout out to all the staff, Including Grace, Ellie, Greg, Keiran, Alex, Shane, Lauren and all the rest of the staff. You guys are amazing. Thank you. Good food, good service, great atmosphere.

Keiran, Amber, Greg and Grace are so accommodating and helpful. My husband has Motor Neurone Disease and is in a large powered wheelchair. They make our visits effortless during what would normally be an anxious time (especially during busy periods). They make our visits enjoyable and I'm at ease knowing they go that extra mile for us. We can't thank them enough!

Lauren was the BEST hostess and was so efficient and kind!!!

Came in for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat with some friends I haven't seen in s while. Friendly, knowledgeable staff with s welcoming atmosphere. Great drinks and food.

Awful environment to be in. My friend was taking a video of the band to which the bouncer disapproved, When he innocently objected, bouncers (pictured) put said friend in a headlock, traumatizing behavior. At no point is that acceptable. I have been a long time patron of Head of Steam in both Headingley and in city center. I advise all future visitors to beware and avoid at all costs.

Excellent place in Leeds for beer and insanely knowledgeable bar staff. Greg the barman even took time to talk is through some of rare/lesser know beers they had in cans and directed us to one of the best Imperial Stouts I've ever had.

Great live music on Saturday night. IPA and real ale selection is immense. Really enjoyed the Eternal IPA. Reasonably priced for city centre pub. Would recommend.

We go here often, it’s a nice bar that attracts a good crowd. I don’t know if a bar with a better selection of keg beers than this one, there are too many to list. We usually enjoy drinking the different IPAs, some cost a few pound more than usual but are worth every penny. It’s dog friendly too, only ever seen us with dogs. It’s a big bar with some outdoor seating but due to ii’s popularity it’s not always possible to get a seat straight away. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Sometimes there is live music on. They also have shuffleboard.

Great bar friendly staff and great drinks menu.

On the outset this place was large and well spaced out with friendly staff. A good choices of craft beers and a plentiful collection of drinks behind the bar. Prices are very reasonable and there’s large tables suitable for larger groups. The food however although served hot and fresh was a little burnt and dry. Some dishes appeared to have cooked with more care but there burnt parts somewhat made the food a little implantable. Over all, a good place to come In the evening but select your food dish carefully

Disappointing that the food has been downgraded. The burgers used to be amazing - massive smash burgers with interesting add ons. Now just tiny, greasy, frozen jobs that Burger King can beat. Great pub, shame about the short sighted profiteering.

Greg is a fantastic host and bartender, always makes me feel welcome. All staff very knowledgeable and happy to help. Very good range of beers on draft and cans to suit anyone.

Another great visit to this fantastic bar. We returned here because last time we were in Leeds we discovered it and found the staff sooooo dog friendly that when we left ThistleDoodleJack had a few new friends. The choice of drinks, especially beers, is brilliant, and they have themes/guest breweries every so often. The staff are knowledgable and happy to help you choose from the baffling array. We had some snack food on our second visit and it was fantastic - far better than a pub should serve. There is a choice of seating including booths, stools, tables and outside terrace. We've found every spot has it's own atmosphere, but the only place we haven't hung out is by the games. Did I mention they have a few games which are popular. Most of the week this place seems busy enough to feel popular, but Friday & Saturday evenings it can get very busy. This is the No.1 spot for us in Leeds, not least for the amazing staff - in fact probably because of them - and it'll continue to be a destination in its own right. I've give it 6* if I could.

Fabulous evening for Danielle’s 30th birthday. Reserved area for 25+ 999 workers, the staff were really professional moving some people off the tables. The staff also dealt with an emergency situation really professionally and defused a potentially serious situation. Excellent evening, food and staff oh and the band was brilliant. 👍

£8-90 for a single vodka & Diet Coke ridiculous pricing in every other bar in Leeds I was paying between £4-30 to £5 the place itself is great with great music but the bar pricing is way over the top After a discussion with the manager and told that I had been charged for a double vodka by mistake I have changed my review to five stars

Booked mutiple times at this venue for a company's payday drinks, usually 30+ people, they offer local buiness discount of 10% and have a wide vareity of drinks to choose from.

Been in a few times before on an evening and they often do have some nice ales on. We've eaten here too and were not impressed with the food, very basic. Popped in today at mid-day. £13.40 for an ale and two cokes. The ale was off, so they were going to swap it for me after pulling through some more. That barrel had got to it's end, so poured me a different ale. First pulled one of those through, then gave me the next pint out of it. Clearly no-one had had the ales yet that day. That one tasted like vinegar again too. Just left it. My Daughter also didn't drink her coke as it had a slice of lemon in it, and she has a thing about fruit in drinks. Oh well. Probably won't go again.

Ordinarily it would be 5 stars! The staff and atmosphere are great. But I've had to walk out due to the music being too loud. The reason being it was a private booking. I'm all for private bookings but there's no reason why the whole pub should be subjected to the ridiculously loud music that was played

We went in on Tuesday it was very quiet but a great atmosphere and lovely staff

I begin this review with “would you pay £13.50 for the burger below?” The service was brilliant at the Head of Steam, however the food is absolutely rubbish. I paid £13.50 for a so called ‘Korean burger’ the ‘Asian coleslaw’ was sauceless carrots and onions and the chips were barely cooked right, also to add the burger bun looked like Warbourten bun from the Tesco express next door! The burger was boring and unsatisfying. Their pizzas look good but paying a premium price for a burger and getting rubbish is frustrating.

Food fantastic, we were there during the day and the afternoon specials were amazing value for money. Great choice of beers and a really fabulous dog friendly place. Lots of the staff were great but special shout out to Ellie who went above and beyond. Can’t wait to come back.

We had been looking forward to having the chicken gyros meal that we'd enjoyed for the past few times, but when we got there, they had changed the menu since our last visit. It wasn't a huge issue as its expected with food places, so we chose some of the new options. My partner chose the double bacon cheeseburger and fries for £15, and I chose the Korean chicken wrap, which was £13 with skin on fries. Both meals were really nice so will be having those again. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it was just right. Not too busy, so we were able to get a booth seating area. And we didn't have to wait too long for the food. The female toilets are decorated lovely, only one issue is every single toilet seat is broken so you do kind of slip off when you sit down so it won't be any help when you're on a night out after a few sherberts haha! The broken seats are not a new thing as they were like this on a leaving do last year, so a little cheeky request to the Manager to get these fixed please! It's quite a good-sized bar with decent amounts of seating. There's bar games you can book a night out with friends which are quite good fun. There's takeaway canned beer options. There's a small outside seating area so you can watch the shoppers go by. It is situated behind Boots on the back side of Trinity. If you come out of the side of Boots where punk pizza is, turn left and head towards Park Row, it is just on the left hand corner opposite Tesco.

As always with HOS the beer and drinks selection was very good lots to pick from, The pub is very big lots of seating and the decor is good too. enjoyed my visit. only had drinks but would like to try food next time.

The friendly staff are always enthusiastic about the beers available, which is always a great choice, and as is usual with any good pub will let you try any to help you make your decision. Food isn't too bad but not the main reason to come here, there's plenty of better places in Leeds if that's your priority. Lots of space here, so good for large groups and there's also an outside area on the street too.

Huge range of beers and a massive bar. Can get very busy (and noisy with the high ceilings) but always lots of staff on so the never much wait at the bar.

Love it here. Never eaten so didn't score but the beers, staff and atmosphere is allways 5/5. One of my favourite spots in town.

They do good beer but with the new food menu it appears everything has shrunk! The burgers used to be large and plentiful, but I got one yesterday and it was tiny, no bigger than a beer mat. Used to love my Friday burger and beer here but will have to look elsewhere.

Wow Leeds prices but some nice beer choice.

Brilliant place, great service and atmosphere. Great midweek food deals. The bonus on this menu is most of it can be made vegan/vegetarian.

Due to its city centre location, this easily one of the most expensive bars to buy craft ales in (£7+ for Neck Oil) but it does have a great beer selection. Two shuffle boards and a pinball table around the back. Some excellent people watching tables over looking Park Row and some outdoor seating too. A good place to drink if you've got deep pockets.

Arrived to a great atmosphere for the football. Got a pint of Guinness and treated myself to a katsu curry loaded fries, which was delicious. I was served by Amber, who was lovely and looked after us, checking in to see if the food was okay and generally offering good vibes throughout the evening. Thanks Amber!
