A lovely village pub. The staff were super helpful and very amenable with my adult brother who has additional needs. They were flexible with the menu and took time to explain the darts scoring. The food was really nice and you could absolutely tell it wasn’t part of a chain because the portion size was generous and very filling. I really liked that you could swap chips for healthier new potatoes if desired. Lovely evening, thank you 🤩

Visited for the first time today with family from Norfolk, not a particularly pleasant visit, my mother is disabled in a wheelchair which was accessible in a fashion was difficult to go through the narrow doors to the tap room as we had a small dog with us. I appreciate they have to have rules regarding this but was not impressed with the young lady implementing them! came across quite abrupt & rude. Would never eat here again it completely ruined our meal which wasn’t that great especially the batter on the fish not cooked.

A great 'typical' village pub with great food and excellent outside (covered) seating area. Website and reviews don't do it justice. Visit for yourself. Good traditional food at an honest price. Want cheaper- go elsewhere but expect poor quality, here you you get great staff, good food and an excellent choice of 🍺 beer. Video added of the village outskirts towards Whinmoor and a second of the beer garden.

I was staying fairly near by just me and the dog. I had seen this place on Google maps but fell upon it after getting lost on a walk lol. I can't drive anymore so it was the nearest place with food and good reviews. I'm disabled after an accident during lock down. I went to go in and got really anxious so sett off walking away but had a word with myself and decided to go back and try again. I've got too say I'm glad I did. Really friendly staff and folks. Carried my drink out brought water for my dog. I ordered food,I'm vegetarian and there burger was awesome. Lovely quality food. Clean place Lovely village. Having been recommended we thought we would try the red lion for father's day lunch. Unfortunately we were disappointed. My wife and I both ordered pies and both were overcooked to the point where the pastry was black in parts and inedible. The only reason we didn't send them back was due to the long wait we had in the first place....plus the kids weren't arguing which as every parent knows, is golden. We won't be going back 🤷‍♂️.

Had a roast beef dinner this evening. Have been told how good the food was. Very disappointing. Very bland, luke warm and not roast beef! It was sliced processed beef! The roast potatoes were cooked from frozen, the vegetables were more plain than a plain thing and a few new potatoes (which I’ve never had with a roast dinner!) I will not be trying anything else on the menu! Thank goodness for my husband’s company!

Recently moved to Shadwell and enjoy walking to this pub for a drink. Went last week and had 2 x lager and lime...£8, went today, same round £9.80. Bartender explained that they.must charge for splash of lime cordial, which I agree with BUT 90p per shot is absolutely ridiculous. This is blatant profiteering and needs to be addressed by the owners immediately. I don't begrudge anyone making a profit but this is way too much (let's not forget that you also get less lager ), come on Red Lion, get a grip !!

This is an attractive village pub at Shadwell, about 5 miles from Leeds city centre. There is a large car park, and it can also be reached by a pleasant walk from Roundhay Park. The 7S bus also stops outside. It's great that they have finally added their menu to the pub website, because it's quite a nice place to eat, and if you just want a snack, the chips are amazing. They generally have a few cask ales on, and they are kept in good condition, and served by friendly staff. There is a large lounge, where functions are often held at the weekends, everything from children's birthday parties to a jazz festival. The pub appears to be very much a part of the local community. In addition to the lounge, there is a perfectly-sized tap room, with equally comfortable seating. There are two screens, which sometimes show sport. Some of the regulars are a bit territorial about their regular seating, so be prepared to move, or stand your ground if you have the stomach for it. On the whole, they are a friendly bunch though. There is outdoor seating, including a covered terrace. If you want to read a newspaper while you are enjoying your pint, and have a smoke, there is a good village shop directly opposite.

We have eaten at the Red Lion quite a few times and we do not live close by and travel approximately 20 miles to visit and eat. I cannot express how disappointed I really feel this time. I ordered Lasagna, husband ordered open flatbread streak and blue cheese. Both dishes came and straight away the lasagna didnt look like it was cooked, it was not steaming and looked anaemic. It was smothered in cheese which was okay but it was not even browned in the slightest on top, even though lasagna is supposed to be oven baked and browned. It was very obvious it had been taken out of the cooler/freezer, raw basic tomato passata poured around the outside and cheese thrown on top and microwaved. Cutting into the lasagna it was cold in the middle. It didnt taste very nice either. There were huge slivers of onions and hardly any meat. I alerted one of the staff and they took the food away and returned within less than 3 minutes... same dish just microwaved for an extra minute. When you are paying for traditional pub food you certainly do not expect microwaved food, especially not a dish that should be oven cooked. Needless to say I didn't eat the dish, I have never tasted a lasagna as rubbish if I am honest - the sauce was genuinely just passata that had been proud into it, cheap passata at that with not much taste the cheese was a heart attack waiting to happen amount (which is fine if cooked properly) that basically had been melted in the microwave. When the landlord came asked if all was okay, I told him it wasn't very nice and he said, 'well you have already said it was cold and asked for it reheating'.. how rude.. no I didn't it was taken and reheated.. there was no option given.. He then stated that the lasagna's seemed ok last night, he served loads.. this just made me think the food was old and from the night before. I was gobsmacked to be honest at the rudeness, the attitude and lack of customer service. The landlord told us initially that he would only charge us for a small lasagna because I had eaten the sides. I said to my husband that was not really good enough and I felt he was being not very nice to us. He then came back to us and said he was only going to charge us for the chips on the plate because I had eaten them... all 8 of them.. I have to say we were charged for a full portion of chips but did not receive a full portion. Penny pinching comes before serving good quality food clearly. Needless to say I did not eat the lasagna and I felt very disappointed with his attitude towards us. I would like to say the girls on the shop floor looked genuinely upset and concerned. Both kept apologising (they obviously knew it was not acceptable) Its just a shame that the landlord does not feel customer service is a necessary skill to possess. So we had traveled 20 miles plus to visit to come away hungry, out of pocket and disheartened. Apart from have a full scale argument with the landlord there was nothing we could do but to pay the bill. It would have also been very unfair on the funeral party that was in there to have an argument with him too. We will not be returning. I work locally near to Shadwell. I work in a very busy environment with many work colleagues. I will be sharing my experience and I will not be recommending the Red Lion to my work colleagues, friends or family. Such a shame, I feel quite gutted, I feel even more gutted that the landlord didn't really give a monkeys that he had lost a returning customer...

Dogs are welcome outside (dog bowls available) and it is a popular stop off for walkers, cyclists and families alike. There are two quiz nights a week, regular live music, monthly Sunday night jazz, an annual Halloween, Christmas and Easter children’s party, New Year celebrations and an annual beer and music festival weekend every August. Richard, Kirsty and the team work very hard to organise all of this and give a lot back to community through their support of other local events and small businesses. Check out their Facebook page to find out what’s on.

First but not last visit… Popped in here for a snack lunch last Friday and couldn’t fault it. Great relaxed atmosphere, pleasant outdoor seating, good car park. Food was excellent Cajun chicken and the squid both very good ( not to mention the pint of chips fried in beef dripping!!!!) Richard the owner very pleasant and welcoming. It’s the sort of place you don’t want to tell people about so it doesn’t get busy…but it is well worth a visit. Even from Roundhay or Street Lane it’s only a 45 min walk. Thanks for a great experience David and Catherine

Just had a meal at this lovely pub where there was a beer festival some lovely beers on offer. My partner and I ate here I ordered a roast pork dinner and my partner had the steak and ale pie. Mine was fine apart from getting 1 new potato and 2 roast potatoes when I ordered mash.. My partners mash was very lumpy and there was a solidified gravy inside the pastry which was off putting.. Hopefully the Red Lion will make a better effort with their food in future.

Always the warmest of welcomes at this super little village pub. The hosts go out of their way to make you feel welcome whether you go once a year or everyday. Live music, pub quizzes, amazing food and craft ales! Add in a few friends, new and old and a good time will be had by all!

Having not been in a few years we visited for Sunday lunch on Father’s Day. Service and food was great in a lovely setting however we were sat close to a large group with one extremely loud drunk male who loved the sound of his own voice. No fault of the pub but we left and didn’t order dessert due to this as it kept getting worse as more wine was ordered!. We will return again to try the weekday menu and look forward to it

I've lived not far from the Red Lion for years and only recently discovered that it's actually a decent pub. Good, honest pub food, live entertainment every so often, tap room to watch sports. Regular beer Landlord and a couple of others. Great outdoor space (weather permitting). Friendly staff. Proper pub unlike the awful Dexter at Slaid Hill.

Had my birthday here and had an amazing time. Was given the dart boards towards the entrance and had less of a an atmosphere however was still great with so many people I was with. I would recommend going with 5 or 6 people so you can all actually play together and not just never see some people

Not sure what was wrong here yesterday but the customer service was not great, we arrived and waited near the door to be seated and was ignored so after a few minutes we decided to find our own table and sit down my partner went to the bar and ordered some drinks only to be told that we should have waited until we were seated which was repeated when we were handed menu’s with a non welcoming statement of in future reference wait at the door until you seated which I bluntly replied we did and got ignored !! The food wasn’t brilliant and the lack of interest within the staff was very rude and disappointing the smart dressed guy from the north west was the only person who seemed to have interest in his tables the male that served us was not customer focused and quite frankly rude and abrupt I’m not sure what happened yesterday but the relaxed atmosphere advertised It certainly wasn’t ! We all are facing increasing challenges and everyday struggles but if paying customers are spending money in your restaurant please make an effort and appreciate the custom and be grateful a real shame really we experienced this level of service because the usual standards were pretty good when we visited before the standard of food was below what I expected and the bread was burnt and rock hard the chips were cold and overall very disappointing we will be looking at alternative options from now on and hope things change! For the better

It was pleasure to be served Afternoon Tea by Elsa today at Brown's. She was very helpful and friendly. The Afternoon Tea was yummy and the restaurant were very obliging and let us book it for 1.30pm instead of their usual 3pm-5pm. All in all a lovely experience. Thank you to all.x
