The Head of Steam in Liverpool

The Head Of Steam Pub is a must go beer destination for me on any trip into Liverpool City Centre I take. A great looking pub,interior is warm and inviting, great wall art, a fantastic looking serving bar, eclectic decor and furnishings, big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options throughout, its just a really good pub to unwind in. I ordered a pale ale, this was served in pristine condition, I chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My pale ale was really good, well balanced, well crafted, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a smooth finish, a classic British pale ale indeed, hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with beers served in this good a condition I really enjoyed my pale ale in here before toddling on and as on all previous visits to the Head Of Steam I really had a positive beer experience. The Head Of Steam is easy to locate along Hanover Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. A great pub to seek out if you're in the area.

Lunch menu looked promising and reasonably priced but the food was bland, unappetising and barely warm. Portion size disappointing. This is a good venue for drinks with helpful staff, however the food is best avoided!

Organised a works reunion of about 16 people last night and pre booked our tables. The service and attention from the staff was above and beyond, being proactive and attentive. Great beers and fantastic atmosphere. Psst don't tell anyone.

Came here tonight for my birthday celebrations and to watch the Liverpool match…. It was a great day!! Paul and the team made us feel welcome. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and the food was gorgeous!! Thanks to the staff for making my birthday enjoyable

We visited for the first time in a few months. I had a lovely pint of titanic plum porter. Which was served by John, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. I also had the pleasure of meeting Jade, who was very friendly. We will definitely be coming back very soon. This is not only the great pint but the great service we received from Jade and John.

5 stars for serving a huge variety of cask, keg craft beers. Plenty of rooms inside. Big seating area. Beautiful atmosphere specially at night. Really cool for get together with family or friends or socialising. Cool and helpful staff, running around the bar and taking care of customers. They're offering variety of craft beers. Right in middle of city centre so easy to have a quick one while u around. Had amazing quality time there even twice in a day 😝

For a city centre bar, this place is remarkably friendly. The personable and capable staff make you feel welcome and are always smiling. Great selection of beer - and staff are knowledgeable about them - and large bar itself so you never have to wait long to be served. If you find yourself in Liverpool City Centre, I highly recommend Head of Steam.

Was in town for the football and this was on our list of pubs to visit. A decent range of keg beers, bottles and spirits on offer. The pub was rammed as Liverpool were playing Away on TV so all the seating was taken. Despite the amount of punters inside, service was quick. The pub does food although as we couldn't get a table, we didn't order any.

The food is terrible. Gyro’s will literally break your teeth in half and the food was cold and undercooked. Men’s toilets stink and are leaking. These are also right by the room where the food comes from! And the beers smell and taste of egg, at the good old price of £6 and over! Came with friends and was greeted by the most miserable and smelly staff ever. Some small girl with glasses and tattoos looked like she wanted to end it all because she had to pour a couple of pints. Not a single smile from any staff member. The company must be awful! Also, staff appear to like a drink on shift as my friend noticed two lads taking shots at the back of the bar. One of the lads appeared to be the manager? Other looked like he was enjoying his job a little too much and was clearly on something. Unless you get better staff, better food, better beers and a better smelling venue, we will not be returning. Thanks!

Huge range of beers and good range of cocktails. My husband,nephew and I had a nice time. Good location and cool interior/design.

Great pub with a couple of different Gluten Free beers.

"Food served until 9pm" Arrived at 8.25 to be told the chef had shut the kitchen down for the night. Fantastic! Didn't tell us this until they had poured our drinks so we had to finish them asap to move on to somewhere that actually keeps their kitchen open until the advertised time.

I’ve been to a few Head Of Steams and this is by far the best. Large and airy, well designed, fantastic product and great service Much better than the one’s in the northeast

Lovely spot. Dropped in for a pint, not too busy at the bar but Irish fella serving was waiting for a girl to come to the bar and would serve them. Girl behind the bar was run off her feet! Waited for ten minutes and gave up, left people there who'd been waiting longer than me. Would come again and give it another go, but hopefully different people working so that I can actually get a drink!

Honestly hard to fault. Pool tables (with contactless option) in a nice room with Mario art and such. I had a Vegan kebab and chicken alternative which were both pretty good. My girlfriend had a burger with "facon" (which they could've been slightly more generous with) and it was a little less impressive but a really good experience overall. Definitely my go-to in the area. Oh, and there was quite the beer selection!

A new year ,my twin brother and I got days off work and jumped the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre to visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for, at the top of our list of pubs to visit was The Head Of Steam Pub . A great looking pub,interior is superb, a very eye catching serving bar dominates the main room, wonderful decor and furnishings, great wall art, big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a wonderful beer destination to chill out in . We were here on a Saturday night, pub was extremely busy with a great atmosphere, served by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we both opted to have ale's from Camerons Brewery, these were served in pristine condition, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My ale was really good, well crafted, well balanced, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it we both enjoy, its hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with beers served in this good a condition by staff who certainly know their ale's and beers. We really enjoyed our ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Head Of Steam Pub we had a marvellous time. The Head Of Steam Pub is very easy to locate along Hanover Street, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit Liverpool.

The Head Of Steam on Hanover street was one of the first pubs we went to in 2024 and what a pub to start our year off in.This is a superb pub and is one in a superb chain of craft beer pubs that offers a superb range of draught and bottled craft beer's and an excellent food menu and is a real joy to go to in the city centre. Located in a brilliant area and housed in a former hotel'this superb pub has a brilliant interior with excellent fixtures and features that relates to our industrial past and beer and throughout it's spacious multi-roomed interior superb seating options.This superb pub is in my opinion one of the best pubs in the city centre and a pub we have been to many times since it opened in 2017. We visited here early in the afternoon on a very wet day in January and as it had only just opened up we where one of the first in here.When we where here we had a couple of glasses of Camerons brewery ales'this is a superb beer which were perfectly served and were really well priced.This is a superb pub in an excellent area with a really good range of beers and is well worth a visit and is easy to find from Central train station it's a short walk away.(This is my fifth review of the Head Of Steam Liverpool). Came here for a couple of drinks and really enjoyed it. The staff were really friendly. They serve delirium red Belgium beer, which is delicious and packs a punch! A pint of that and you'll be feeling nice and happy! They have a nice selection of beers, wines and spirits, and the pricing is fair given the central location. It's a really nice bar, decorated well, and feels cosy, especially in the train style booths in the back. Definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area and looking for a place for a couple of nice drinks!

Haven't tried the food, but the Bar is a great place to drink with friends 👍 The Customers are a mixed crowd of all ages and it has a really pleasant and relaxed atmosphere 😎 They have a great selection of Beers both bottled and on Draught, Service is really good, and there are lots of Tables and Seats. Prices are really reasonable for Liverpool Town centre 👍🙂

We go to this pub on a number of occasions during the year but yesterday’s visit was terrible. The peroni was awful and the bar itself which was clearly understaffed was serviced by the worst attitude bar staff I’ve witnessed.They seemed to take great pride in not serving people or blatantly ignoring customers who are waiting to spend lots of money. We spent approx £250 over a 6 hour period inc food in our party of 8. If you’re happy to lose customers like us then you’ve succeeded and I will never spend a penny ever again as there are many vastly superior bars who are quite willing to take our hard earned money. It’s interesting as we came as a large party last Xmas and it was a struggle to get in………this year it wasn’t in fact it was quiet. Maybe other customers have the same opinion.

Great selection of cask beers, great selection of bottles beers, great food. All in all, it is a great plane for a group of people to eat, drink, and be merry.

3 of us ordered a different vegetarian each. Mine was fake lamb kebab, which was too chewy and too much chilli sauce on it. Wife had cauliflower wings which were tasteless and she felt they may have been warmed up more than once or refried. My daughter had the veggie burger which seemed fine at the time but when we got home, she was sick several times. In summary, this place is OK for a drink but I certainly don't recommend the food.

Located on Hanover Street in the center of Liverpool, it is very near Central Station. The pub is deceptively large. Great range of beers to choose from. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are large tv screens, but not too many pool tables towards the rear. We had food that was reasonably priced and very good for a pub. There is plenty of room here. Loads of tables and seats. It was busy when we went on a Friday evening.

Nice enough pub, but get there early because the barman seems to make his own hours up, possibly that's how it works in Ireland 🇮🇪, but not Liverpool, and I found him quite rude.

Tuesday 3rd October 2023 This great liverpool real ale pub is spot on There were amples choices of hand pumped real ales on today the pub was what you expect of the Head of steam chain quite old fashioned in style and the music was good A good local gollowing and a really goos CAMRA DISCOUNT FOR CAMRA MEMBERS Well done all involved

The food is awful. Paid nearly £15 for a chicken burger that consisted of 1 and a half chicken strips, a piece of lettuce, cheese sauce and mayo. It was vile. The chips were cold too. I would have sent this back but I was that hungry I had no choice. The service at the bar was really slow. Staff just chatting to each other and not serving. The place tries too hard to be ‘different’ yet can’t get the basics right. Will not be going back there again.

The food category was a 3 due to the chips/fries that were not to my liking and cold. However, I must say it was through the lunch time deal, which is a very good deal indeed. I would still recommend it, and if/when I come back in the area, I will be visiting again. 😊

Love the selection of craft beers, modern sours and imperial stouts. They always have something new to try every time we visit.

Visited here recently with a few mates. We all had a boss time, there's a large selection of real ales and local craft beer if that's your thing. If not, they offer a wide range of other drinks as well. The decor is smart, worth a visit!

Dog friendly is a big plus, good atmosphere and drinks. The doormen are friendly too. Just a shame that it's quite expensive compared to similar places nearby.

Boss atmosphere, plenty of seating, really good size premises, bar games & Wii at the back. Excellent range of drinks with really helpful and friendly staff. And as a bonus, it’s only place to get Delirium in Liverpool. I wouldn’t say the location suits the kind of place it is, but it conveniently located.

I come into Head of Steam quite regularly after work to play in the games room and was introduced to a new beer called Jubel by James behind the bar and it’s my new favourite drink. Great venue and amazing service and recommendations from James.

Nice looking venue, good atmosphere and fair prices. Big variety of products to choose from. James provided great customer service and was especially helpful in recommending what to eat and drink. Would come again just for James' service alone.

Just paid £14.50 for a gin and tonic. It's dead and the service was like they had held their families hostage.

As you would expect from the city centre it's more expensive than over the water but it has deals if you choose from the lunch menu. Brilliant food and the customer service is quick and efficient

Came here with a group of 12, ended up being 13 which was no issue at all, well accommodate.. food buffet was delish and the drink buckets were ice cold... served by James who was an absolute gent! Would definitely recommend

I have visited the Head of Steam multiple times in the last year. The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful. They have a fantastic variety of beers and ciders, there's always something new to try and something for everyone! The atmosphere, regardless if empty or bustling, is always great and very appealing. On my most recent visit, I decided to indulge in their lunch menu. I went for the Single Steam burger, which came with nachos included. The burger was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The nachos were okay, though the cheese sauce was quite cold. Regardless, very good food and great value. I would definitely recommend this place to grab a drink or even have a meal!

What a pub! Quality beers here, really good selection. Lovely atmosphere. Got pool and shuttleboard at the back which is fun. Staff are friendly, overall a great pub to visit!

If you like a bar that has sports such as football and pool tables then this bar is great for you, didn't eat hear so couldn't comment on the food but the atmosphere was good and enjoyed the drinks.

Came here for a beer to watch the FA Cup final. One of the nicer bars at the time (3pm Saturday). Wait staff were friendly, the environment was generally nice. The beer selection was OK.

Good speedy service with good selection of beers. One of us is a non-drinker, and there was the choice of a cup of tea, with a number of flavours on offer.

Good selection of ales that frequently rotate and some that are more permanent, has pool tables, shuffleboards, and an Wii. Does decent pub food.

Asked the young man behind the bar which was their best ale. He offered samples of various ones, never knew this was a thing, and it helped me choose an ale I wouldn't have chosen otherwise. Great food especially recommend the pizzas, great classic music and non-rowdy friendly atmosphere. Wish I'd found it earlier.

Always a good pub with great selection of drinks. This time they organised a party for us, roped off a section of the room but it still felt like you were in the bar and picking up the buzz from the other people there. They put on a great buffet including a nice veggie selection. Everyone in the party commented how much they enjoyed it. Thanks to Jack and the HoS team for a great night. Steve

The food here used to be amazing but it's gone downhill recently. However we still visit a lot for the beers! There's a great selection and there's always new stuff to try too.

18/01/23: not our first time here. One of the better craft ale bars on our Liverpool ale traills. One of the best for it's selections of ales, lagers and ciders. A great bar, well set out, with plenty of seating. Dog friendly! We had the Vocation Brewery: Naughty & Nice Snickers and Lilley's Cider: Gingerbread cider

Excellent pub, huge, real ales very good and choice of 6.

Lovely warm feeling pub,nice staff,nice clientele. Foods very palatable, and a large variety of beers and ales. My only critique would be a need for some Guiness and john smiths..for those of us with old fashioned tastes and requirements.

Great place, very large, loads of seats, great choice of beers. Mens toilets are a disgrace. Three traps, two don't have working locks, the one one with a lock had no toilet roll. Been many times always the same.
