Really comfy, good deals on cocktails, nice chilled vibe!

Came here for a few drinks and a bite to eat, had a fantastic time, great prices and decent food. The staff were superb and very welcoming and friendly, big shout out to jade who looked after us and made the best old fashioned cocktails, thanks jade.

Great pub had a plenty of craft beers on tap and does good cocktails too

Just had drinks but nice atmosphere and good choice of drinks all round and even some gluten free drinks which was nice.. well recommended and be back again..

Went in with my wife last Sunday and found a table that was not reserved so we could have a drink and watch the football. Halfway through our drink the barman or manager. Big guy with a beard. Came to our table and said he had a reservation for it and needed us to move. I told him that was ridiculous as no label was on it, but he said he could find us another table somewhere else. I dud get angry as his attitude and in fact some other customers nearby voiced their disgust at his attitude. We dud get up and leave and vowed never to return. If this is how they treat customers don’t go there.

We went for a drink at the Head of Steam in Liverpool on Saturday. The atmosphere was good but the place was filthy. Tables stacked out with empty glasses and spilt drink all over the tables. I didn’t see any staff clearing tables/wiping so I presume they were short staffed. Do better Head of Steam. We left because of how dirty everywhere was and it was before 6pm.

We went into the venue for a drink and to watch the football. A lot of the tables were reserved but we found one that wasn’t. We bought some drinks and after half an hour and just before the match was to start one of the staff came over and said we would have to move as the table was reserved. We explained that there was no reservation form on the table but he said he knew but that he had just taken a reservation for it. We said but we have been sitting here for half an hour and that he should t have taken a booking when the table was already occupied. He said sorry but that he had and we would have to vacate the table. We argued but he was adamant. By then I said I wouldn’t stay anyway as everyone was looking at us and would never go back again. Other customers were saying it was disgraceful. So even if you find a table and are sitting on it the company will take a reservation for it and ask you to vacate it. I will definitely never go back.

Love the beers just can’t stand the whole place taken over by loud plebish football commentary on match days. Awful.

We first visited in mid-July for a family gathering and were warmly greeted by the staff. The tables were clean, menus were already placed, and the cocktail and beer selection was exquisite. The bartender even made us a raspberry iced tea with a twist, which we all loved. Unfortunately, our most recent visit didn’t live up to the previous experience. When we sat in a booth, we noticed some food on the seating. We tried another booth, but it was filled with dirty plates, so we chose to stay in the first one. The table was sticky, and there were no menus, so we went to the bar to ask if our order could be taken at the table, as it had been on our last visit, and if the table could be wiped down. The bartender, a large man with a beard, ignored us initially, and when I said “excuse me,” he rudely replied that he would “sort it.” Adding to the disappointment was the poorly executed Christmas display at the entrance. It felt hastily put together and lacked any real holiday spirit—it seemed more like an afterthought than an inviting festive touch. when we reach the bar we were disappointed by the quality of the craft beers, as several tasted off, likely due to poor storage or tap maintenance. Worse yet, the bar area had a noticeable issue with beer flies, which further detracted from the experience. Having previously visited the Cardiff location, we noticed that the standards at this site were not the same. The staff appeared less organized and knowledgeable than on our last visit. While the arcade games in the back excited the children, the quality was disappointing. The walls displayed mainstream game characters, but the actual consoles featured inferior, likely Chinese, copies—misleading to say the least. The food also failed to meet expectations. Unfortunately, after this encounter, I won’t be returning. I would recommend saving your money and choosing a more family-friendly establishment.

Before starting a week's holiday in Albufeira my twin brother and I decided to jump the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre and visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for ,first pub we visited was The Head Of Steam ,been here before on many occasions, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit. This is a great looking pub ,interior is warm and inviting, an eye catching serving bar dominates the main room, cool decor and furnishings, great wall art and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. We had a study of their very impressive beer range ,in the end we decided to try a Portuguese beer to get us in the mood to our upcoming holiday to Portugal and went for beers from Central De Cervejas Brewery ( Sagres beer ) these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub while we sipped our beers. Beer was so good ,really tasty,a lager style beer, very easy to drink, a totally thirst quenching beer indeed. We really enjoyed our beers in here and the great vibe so much so that we ended up staying for another beer each before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Head Of Steam is easy to locate along Hanover Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Came here on the 31st of August, I had an old fashioned using bourbon, I enjoyed it so much that over a month later on my next visit to the city, I had to make the same pit stop, and of course have the same drink! As luck would have it I recognised the young lady behind the bar who had made the drink previously, needless to say it was just as amazing as the first! You’ve got a great member of staff there guys! She sure knows her stuff. Thank you again my dear x

We went in for a few beers, but got stung on the price of the first so we left. £7.90 a pint for a 5.4% Beavertown Gamma Ray which you can buy in Tesco. My fault for not asking the price in advance I guess but we were stunned

The party is over, managed to get one drink in at the bar by a familiar face. However, was totally ignored by the bar staff after I directly made a query about food. Literally all the white people that came to the bar whilst I was standing there were served with me looking like a lemon. I guess the local race riots have had an effect on the city.

Real Ale. 1 star today. It's a real shame that this Head of Steam doesn't really have the footfall to look after their real ale anymore. It used to have a great selection, and it was looked after. Just left half a pint of a known stout I like.

I've been coming here once a month for just under a year now and I like the place! My only issue is that the prices are quite steep compared to other places sadly.

It took exactly 43 min to get a pizza from payment to serving. Basically empty pub and it took 43min?! And ”pizza” was horrible. My guess is that they went to a local Tesco, got frozen pizza from there and microwaved it. Beer selection is good, just don’t eat here. Ever.

Popped in a couple of days ago on my 1st trip to Liverpool for a quick drink. Ended up tripping over (my own fault) and injuring my toe, causing a lot of bleeding that wouldn't stop. The team, especially Michelle couldn't have been more helpful, administering first aid perfectly. She managed to dress my wound as well as possible and direct us to the nearest A&E where I was seen and patched up within an hour. Can't thank you enough, Michelle for doing everything you possibly could and to the gent who offered me a sugary drink in case I felt faint. 5 stars all the way!

We have come to Head of Steam regulary for years with no issues. It was our go to pub. However, it is now under new management and after a couple of visits we won't be returning again. We find the new manager quite abrasive as she told us off for ordering separately to the same table. The food and drink options have been cut down and have gone downhill as well. The service is much slower now too. Very very disappointed.

HOS Liverpool is one of my favourite places to go for a drink in Liverpool. The atmosphere is always friendly and lively and the choice of drinks are vast. I'm not usually inclined to order food but did this last weekend. Unfortunately, there was a bit minor issue which meant that I had to ask for the food to be replaced. Michelle to the rescue! Michelle promptly and professionally replaced my food quickly and without any awkward atmosphere. She continued to ensure that I was satisfied and maintained her professionalism through out and until I left. HOS, Michelle and your team in Liverpool are a credit to the HOS family

Wonderful pub. Great atmosphere for couples and families. Food is good especially the pizza and loaded fries. Very friendly staff that are always smiling. Pool tables in the back if you like. Would definitely recommend stopping by. Lots of beer on tap as well as wine and spirits.

Did the lunch deal £10.50 for meal and drink. Vegan options plenty, but the 'fried vegan chicken' was just strips of 'meat' not fried at all? My 'zeafood' tacos were good, but one piece of calamari and one piece of shrimp is a rip off!

It's fine but expensive as expected..two drinks for £14....the interior was nice though...lots of wood and bench type seating.

The beer selection is very good with over ten draft, craft beers, handpulls and even more variety in the fridge. The decor is starting to tire and the carpets are sticky.

The food here was just meh. I had the steak burger and my other half had the triple burger. It was too much food and just didn’t really taste like anything, and the chips were cold. Was however a great selection of beers and honestly would recommend it to drink in not eat in. Not a lot else to say.

I ordered a pale ale, this was served in pristine condition, I chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My pale ale was really good, well balanced, well crafted, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a smooth finish, a classic British pale ale indeed, hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with beers served in this good a condition I really enjoyed my pale ale in here before toddling on and as on all previous visits to the Head Of Steam I really had a positive beer experience. The Head Of Steam is easy to locate along Hanover Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. A great pub to seek out if you're in the area.

Great place to watch any sport and great place to catch up with your friends

Great selection of drinks and knowledgeable bar staff who are happy to suggest options and tell you about the beer. Lovely back room with video game character decorations, board games, pool and shuffleboard. Well decorated and tons of seating for groups of all sizes, always happy to pop in here for a pint since it's so central in Liverpool too, 2min walk from Liverpool Central station.

We got here at 6:30 on a Tuesday with 3 children. We were worried we wouldn’t get served this late, it was no problem to them at all. The kids portions were large. The bar person said she could live off them alone 😃 I would highly recommend this place. The food selection was great, the beer selection even better.

I used to say “even when it’s bad pizza, it’s still pretty good pizza”. The Head of Steam proved me wrong. I now know that awful pizza exists. But if you’re going just for drinks, it’s a great place to go. Great selection of beers!

Busy as match started, didn't eat there so can't comment on food.

Lunch menu looked promising and reasonably priced but the food was bland, unappetising and barely warm. Portion size disappointing. This is a good venue for drinks with helpful staff, however the food is best avoided!

Excellent food, but a limited menu for some. Burger in a brioche bun, so no good for those of us who don't like sweet bread. Also, no fish and chips on offer, but the rest of the menu was very good. Plus, there was a super tasty stout on cask from Small World brewery.

Resently retired, I organised a get together at the H O S 23rd March 2024. Many came along and each commented on how good the staff are and such a great atmosphere in the place. Very much recommend a visit. Danielle's management of the place shines through. Also a really nice person to talk too. I'll pop in for a meal in the future. I'm sure that will also be top quality.

I was meeting up with a friend on the weekend and decided to try this bar. Upon entering and being greeted at the bar by a staff member called Gina we asked about a few of the different drinks on selection. Though the bar was busy Gina never made us feel rushed and gave us her entire attention while telling us about the different beverages. One drink turned into a few as the service and collection of different drinks interested my friend and I. Each time we returned to the bar Gina welcomed us and continued to show exceptional service. Will definitely be returning at some stage in the future.

5 stars for serving a huge variety of cask, keg craft beers. Plenty of rooms inside. Big seating area. Beautiful atmosphere specially at night. Really cool for get together with family or friends or socialising. Cool and helpful staff, running around the bar and taking care of customers. They're offering variety of craft beers. For a city centre bar, this place is remarkably friendly. The personable and capable staff make you feel welcome and are always smiling. Great selection of beer - and staff are knowledgeable about them - and large bar itself so you never have to wait long to be served. Was in town for the football and this was on our list of pubs to visit. A decent range of keg beers, bottles and spirits on offer. The pub was rammed as Liverpool were playing Away on TV so all the seating was taken. Despite the amount of punters inside, service was quick. The pub does food although as we couldn't get a table, we didn't order any.

The food is terrible. Gyro’s will literally break your teeth in half and the food was cold and undercooked. Men’s toilets stink and are leaking. These are also right by the room where the food comes from! And the beers smell and taste of egg, at the good old price of £6 and over! Came with friends and was greeted by the most miserable and smelly staff ever. Some small girl with glasses and tattoos looked like she wanted to end it all because she had to pour a couple of pints. Not a single smile from any staff member. The company must be awful! Also, staff appear to like a drink on shift as my friend noticed two lads taking shots at the back of the bar. One of the lads appeared to be the manager? Other looked like he was enjoying his job a little too much and was clearly on something. Unless you get better staff, better food, better beers and a better smelling venue, we will not be returning. Thanks!

Nice place for a quite meal had one bad meal. Went back for a second a few weeks later to give them a second chance that one was reasonable nice. The beers and ales in there are fantastic!!! If you like your wide choice in beers. Bit on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.

Great options for craft beer lovers. Good food menu (although extremely limited for gluten intolerances), vegetarian friendly. The bar staff are friendly. We watched the football here and it was a good atmosphere. There were girls out for lunch, lads watching the game and everyone in between, very inclusive and not just solely focused on the sports. Dog friendly.

Good place to hang out with your mates It's my go to pub in Liverpool like a homebase. Can get pretty busy on the weekends. Last time I went one of the women staff was really rude. The lights was out and I asked about it and she was not happy to tell me about how it isn't her fault and have to deal with It. I literally just asked why the back room was closed lol. Pool tables at the back is my usual spot Delirium pint is nice.

"Food served until 9pm" Arrived at 8.25 to be told the chef had shut the kitchen down for the night. Fantastic! Didn't tell us this until they had poured our drinks so we had to finish them asap to move on to somewhere that actually keeps their kitchen open until the advertised time.

Lovely spot. Dropped in for a pint, not too busy at the bar but Irish fella serving was waiting for a girl to come to the bar and would serve them. Girl behind the bar was run off her feet! Waited for ten minutes and gave up, left people there who'd been waiting longer than me. Would come again and give it another go, but hopefully different people working so that I can actually get a drink!

Honestly hard to fault. Pool tables (with contactless option) in a nice room with Mario art and such. I had a Vegan kebab and chicken alternative which were both pretty good. My girlfriend had a burger with "facon" (which they could've been slightly more generous with) and it was a little less impressive but a really good experience overall. Definitely my go-to in the area. Oh, and there was quite the beer selection!

We were here on a Saturday night, pub was extremely busy with a great atmosphere, served by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we both opted to have ale's from Camerons Brewery, these were served in pristine condition, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My ale was really good, well crafted, well balanced, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it we both enjoy, its hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with beers served in this good a condition by staff who certainly know their ale's and beers. We really enjoyed our ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Head Of Steam Pub we had a marvellous time. Staggering range of beers, there's always something new to try. Always worth a visit.

The Head Of Steam on Hanover street was one of the first pubs we went to in 2024 and what a pub to start our year off in.This is a superb pub and is one in a superb chain of craft beer pubs that offers a superb range of draught and bottled craft beer's and an excellent food menu and is a real joy to go to in the city centre. Located in a brilliant area and housed in a former hotel'this superb pub has a brilliant interior with excellent fixtures and features that relates to our industrial past and beer and throughout it's spacious multi-roomed interior superb seating options.This superb pub is in my opinion one of the best pubs in the city centre and a pub we have been to many times since it opened in 2017. We visited here early in the afternoon on a very wet day in January and as it had only just opened up we where one of the first in here.When we where here we had a couple of glasses of Camerons brewery ales'this is a superb beer which were perfectly served and were really well priced.This is a superb pub in an excellent area with a really good range of beers and is well worth a visit and is easy to find from Central train station it's a short walk away.(This is my fifth review of the Head Of Steam Liverpool). Came here for a couple of drinks and really enjoyed it. The staff were really friendly. They serve delirium red Belgium beer, which is delicious and packs a punch! A pint of that and you'll be feeling nice and happy! They have a nice selection of beers, wines and spirits, and the pricing is fair given the central location. It's a really nice bar, decorated well, and feels cosy, especially in the train style booths in the back. Definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area and looking for a place for a couple of nice drinks!

Haven't tried the food, but the Bar is a great place to drink with friends 👍 The Customers are a mixed crowd of all ages and it has a really pleasant and relaxed atmosphere 😎 They have a great selection of Beers both bottled and on Draught, Service is really good, and there are lots of Tables and Seats. Prices are really reasonable for Liverpool Town centre 👍🙂
