The pub does a great Sunday roast. Lots of meat and fresh veg, a huge Yorkshire and roast potatoes. It was delicious and well priced at £16.95. Lovely pub garden. This pub is handy for visitors to Wimpole Hall. It's a community owned pub and deserves lots of support.

Our work van broke down about a mile away from this place today. We looked on google maps for a place to eat. Saw this place and spluttered up. All i can say is thankyou. We travel the country with our job, most, if not all village pubs we encounter are inclusive and frown upon outsiders. I can honestly say that this is the friendliest pub we have ever encountered. We had fish and chips. The fish was crispy, cooked well. The chips were perfect., and it was huge. Beer was good. A local, Paddy, even gave us a packet of cigarettes when we asked where the nearest shop was to buy some from. A community pub that is owned by the community and shared by the community. A really nice friendly village pub.

The Hare and Hounds is the kind of small, friendly, local pub that everyone would like to have. We've been many times for drinks, this time for Friday lunch. We both had the superb fish and chips. The batter was crispy and the fish nice and fresh. Mr J had the large portion which was quite enough.. Mrs J had the smaller 'appetite" which was still a good piece of fish. As ever, a wide range of ales and ciders for every taste.

This marvellous community run free house is the model other aspiring would - be village buy outs ought to take note of. In addition to the swift turnaround of the hand pulled beers we ale drinkers have the opportunity to sample a wide range from all over . To my surprise and delight this pub usually has a dark mild / stout / etc every few weeks unlike most of the other pubs I visit. There is seating out front and in the rear beer garden that leads onto open fields which was the site of their recent beer festival attended by a local Asian street food vendor and various musicians playing throughout the long weekend. The interior is just one large room so not the venue for a private or discreet meeting! Due to the proximity of Harlton to the city of Cambridge the Horse & Hounds clientele has a happy mix of academics, professionals and the farming community. Sundays is Quiz Night which you can now avoid or join in depending! Meals are served but I cannot comment as I have yet to eat at this pub. Friendly , attentive and helpful staff This pub is definitely worts visit

Having spent the morning romping round Wimpole we were after some decent food and maybe a beer on the way home. I spied the Sunday roasts coming out of the kitchen as soon as we entered the pub (having left our muddy boots by the front door)... and they looked good... I was hoping they were going to taste as good as they looked... well, when it was our turn to tuck in none of us were disappointed! The portion size was perfect, the meat was lovely, and the veg, well I'm a meat eater, but the veg had to be the highlight, fresh, cooked perfectly, and such a wide variety. Well done team, what a wee gem in the Cambridgeshire countryside!

I use this pub fairly often as it's only in the next village. Occasionally I eat there. Last week I had the Turkey and ham pie and it was truly superb. No pretentious nonesense, not pie filling in a ceramic dish with a puff pastry top. Just a proper big pie filled with huge chunks of succulent turkey and ham. Complemented with delicious seasonal vegetables and creamy mash. . So last night I had the burger. And, wow, they did it again. A huge burger filled with bacon, cheese, and onion rings. Succulent and delicious, accompanied with an inspired choice of sweet potato fries. Both being in the £15/16 bracket, I'd call this unbeatable value

I'm not usually one to leave a below par review and I understand that the cost of living has gone up but £17 for a chicken burger, a small corn on the cob and coleslaw is a bit excessive! Not even any chips served with it. £15 for a burrito bowl which consisted of some almost raw carrot, peppers, some avocado, beans and some rice noodles (rice hadnt been cooked ready for service so had noodles substituted). Nice place for a drink but at those prices I won't be returning again anytime soon. Sorry.

It's lovely to have a decent pub within a short distance of home with a very good range of local real ciders, I think Cambs and East Anglian ciders can give west country and Welsh ciders a run for their money these days and there's a good selection available in the Hare & Hounds. Bar staff, regulars and locals all very friendly. A good sized garden too, so if you're still a bit cautious on the covid front, there's plenty of outdoor space. My partner is a real ale drinker and enjoys the regularly rotating range of ales on offer and finds them to be served in good condition too. I've dined there on a couple of occasions as well and the quality of the food is very good. Booking for a Friday evening dining is essential as a lot of people regularly come for fish and chips that night. Keep up the good work, Tom and team, you're doing a great job.

After a walk in the country the Sunday roasts were exactly what we needed: huge, delicious, piled high with a good range of vegetables, lashings of thick gravy, and even the vegetarian option came with a Yorkshire Pudding! We had to wait 10 minutes for a table even though we had a booking, but then it was Mother's Day so the place was packed and the food still came out in a timely manner. After the delights of the roasts the deserts were a bit of a let down, they were all fine but somehow lacking.

Edit: 08.06.21 Under the excellent management of Tom Canning and his team, the pub has made strides and is now an outstanding example of a village boozer: a great selection of well-kept ales and cider - including some very local; good, reasonably-priced pub food; and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. It just goes to show how important the landlord is to the success of a pub. A great garden with plenty of open and covered seating has made this pub a joy to visit in these beleaguered Covid times. I had the lamb which came with cauliflower cheese, roasted root veg, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, greens + gravy - all very fresh + beautifully cooked. A pub which you can nestle down in for an afternoon, there’s a big garden overlooking fields - lots of garden tables, so you can eat outdoors or indoors. Great fenced garden for kids to play in too, probably perfect for a big family get together. Tasty red wines - I had a few glasses of malbec and had great table service with our meal. Can’t wait to go back with boyfriend and friends for a beers and pie evening.
