The Hansom in Camden

We had a really bad experience at the Hansom restaurant today. We went to celebrate my mum's 70th birthday and had booked afternoon tea. We were 4 adults and 2 small children so made a reservation for 6. My husband is diabetic so can't have cakes. When we arrived we were told by the front of house lady that we HAD to order 4 afternoon teas because the reservation was made for 4 adults and the tea was preordered the day before. It felt very condesending and we felt talked down to. If that indeed is the policy, it was not made clear in the reservation and I was made to believe I was in the wrong and trying to weasel out of an agreement. Now we've been to afternoon tea at plenty of different hotels including the Ritz and Dorchester and have never been told that. It felt really embarrassing and not at all pleasant. This staff member handled this situation extremely poorly. I wanted to leave at that point and was thorougly embarrased for my mum who we wanted to have a good time for her birthday. The front of house person was rude and very aggressive when she told us that and stormed off to talk to her manager only to come back to tell us that they were OK to let us order 2 afternoon teas and 2 courses of their normal menu for the other party which we agreed to but it did really dampen the mood and from then on it was just a sh@tshow. It took them probably 45 minutes from arriving to take our order. We finally received 2 plates of sandwiches and food for the children. We had ordered chicken and ice cream. They brought the chicken and left the ice cream sitting out until the kids were finished with their main course so the ice cream was liquid. The main courses arrived,but no cakes. The steak was also over peppered unfortunately. We spilled water but no one cleaned it up or offered a new napkin. Plates weren't cleared, we had to call waiters over to ask for small plates to eat the sandwiches from. 2 hours in there still wasn't any sight of any scones or cakes. By that point my kids were super tired and fed up and frankly we just wanted to go home. I complained to the same lady (front of house) and got told it was standard practice to leave a decent amount of time between courses. I don't think 2 hours is reasonable to wait for scones and cakes! This certainly did not happen the last time I went here for afternoon tea. I told her that we actually just wanted to go home and nobody was in the mood for cakes anymore, that we really weren't happy and frankly super disappointed with the service. She was snide, unapologetic and just kept saying let me check. Finally her manager came over and offered us a reduction in the bill and packaged up the cakes to go. It was a thoroughly underwhelming experience where no proper afternoon tea was had. I had let them know in the reservation that it was for a big birthday, but nothing was done for my mum to make it special. It also didn't feel particularly child friendly and welcoming to a family with 2 young children. The only saving grace was that we were all together, but the day was throughly ruined by the experience. Very very shoddy! Cannot recommend. Overpriced and awful service!

Great atmosphere and service, I had some recommendation on cocktail from a bartender called Leonardo for sure I will be back to experience other different drinks.

We had a fabulous time experiencing afternoon tea at the Hansom at St. Pancras hotel. Our server Aurora was fantastic. She was very polite, had a beautiful personality, was very professional in her demeanor. We will return for our next visit!!

Lovely afternoon tea at this iconic hotel. Good selection of sandwiches and desserts. Nice buzzing atmosphere and was filled even on a Tuesday post lunch. Staff were brilliant and attentive - our waitress was Aurora who was great. Highly recommend, especially after a visit to their spa.

Great setting and atmosphere but the service is truly appalling. Our server slammed the drinks down, pretty much spilling them over. And then I noticed that the fruit in my cocktail still had a sticker on. For the price you pay here, attention to detail and some basic training in service is the least they can do.

We had the 2-course pre-paid lunch as part of their spa experience and you only get a couple items to choose from. The food itself was very average, I had the steak which was slightly tough. Not worth it considering the price. The staff however were very polite and attentive, even if the food did take a while to come out.

Hey, I had a great time in London. I stayed at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel with my family for a few days. The building is beautiful and the location is great. The rooms weren't that impressive, but the bar service was amazing. This guy named Marius gave us incredible service on our last night in London. It was so good that I'm thinking of going back to London just to visit the Hansom bar again. My friend had the steak diane, which looked delicious and was presented beautifully. I had pasta, which was tasty, but I kind of regretted not getting the steak after seeing how good it looked. Definitely recommend the place.

I came here for afternoon tea for my birthday and they exceeded all of my expectations. The food was delicious, the sandwiches were lovely and the bread was so soft, the scones were warm and delicious, the cakes were amazing, I also like that they gave us one of each for both of us. There was a lemon meringue, a coffee based one, a coconut based one, and a chocolate based pastry/cake, and they were all mouth-wateringly good. They had a great selection of different teas that you can have as much as you like of, and they even offered us more sandwiches. The decor is beautiful and the service was exceptional. They were very attentive and catered to all of our needs. The staff really helped to make my day extra special. There was even a person playing a harp in the dining area which was beautiful. I can’t wait to go back!

Had a fabulous afternoon tea as part of the High time for tea spa package. The service was absolutely spot on particularly Candy and Fauda who couldn't have done more for us. It made the day super special and created a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The afternoon tea itself was exquisite and generous, every single mouthful was delicious!Thank you for being accommodating of different dietary requests with no fuss. We tried at least 3 different tasty teas, I particularly liked the chocolate tea and the jasmine one !

Just wow! Just popped in by coincidence, no idea what to expect, One drink became a full cocktail journey, Leo is the best bartender ever! He knowledge just everyting and every reccomrndation was spot on!!! The place like incredibile too! 5 stars all over!

Best place to go for a drink or a light meal. Ambience is fantastic especialy at evenings. Love the hospitality of the staff - Chris and Marius in particular. They treat us every time like a VIP and always recognise me as a regular.

Lovely atmosphere as you can see in some of the photos. We had afternoon tea. Food was yummy my only issue was that I only liked one of the patisserie so felt like I was missing out on a few of the options. Service was sporadic. It took a while for us to get service once sat down (30mins for water to arrive at the table) and from then on it was understood it was our responsibility to attract attention when service needed. Seems to be consistent with the rest of the reviews/ comments on service. Wouldn’t say it’s worth the money.

Tea and Desserts were spot on with love music. Service was slow and waiters were not attentive enough for a 5-star venue. In addition the venue was dated, chairs had crumbs on them from previous guest, could do much better.

We recently visited The Hansom bar at the Renaissance Hotel in London and had an amazing time! The atmosphere was elegant and welcoming, setting the perfect mood for the evening. A huge shoutout to our bartender, Leonardo. His friendly and attentive service truly stood out. He took the time to understand our preferences and recommended some fantastic cocktails.The drinks were incredible with perfectly balanced flavors. Leonardo’s mixology skills made our night extra special. If you’re in London and want great service and top-notch cocktails, definitely check out The Hansom bar at the Renaissance Hotel. You won’t be disappointed!

Great selection of food. Prawn cocktail salad is a must try, which was recommended by one of their staff, Lee. Very good service! Will definitely comeback.

Food was good, Tomato Pasta and a Club Sandwich were good but prices reflect the location. Service was polite when we received some, but mainly noticeable by its absence. Getting a seat required us to remind the waiter to check again. Had to constantly look to catch a waiter's eye to order, very busy and very inattentive and the cafe was not that busy either. Once the food arrived, we had waiters asking how it was, so that was nice. Should have had them remove the 12.5% service charge really, but often wonder if the problem is the staff or the management!

What a Surprise! The Hansom has a bright and welcoming atmosphere, perfect space if youre looking fo a place where to spend some relaxing time and to drink some amazing cocktails, speaking on wich, i must compliment the bartender Leo for hiss experience with cocktails making and knowledge, he gave us the warmest sservice and nothing was too much for him. He made our night! I'll definately be back to try mor cocktails and the food too.

Such a lovely place to visit. Great discovery hidden inside St Pancras. Good value and great selection of foods. Their club sandwich is a must try. Lee was very helpful.

Came out of King’s station and feel like it’s time for another quick drink. No doubt I like to come here for amazing ambience. Bit noisy but who cares. We we were served by Kris with an good customer service.

I have had spectacular afternoon teas at the Hansom in the past but they now seem to be both significantly more expensive (around £90 vs £45 when I first visited), and less creative. On my most recent visit I felt like the current offering is poor value and is no longer really a top London tea.

i booked a table at the Hansom for afternoon tea as a gift for a friend's birthday. The food was of very good quality however the service was very poor. We were sat at the table for a very long time before anyone even taking our order, the waiter had no knowledge about tea and was not able to provide recommendations. After being served tea and sandwiches we had to wait again before we were served scones and patries (both of excellent quality). The service was scattered and indifferent and certainly didnt make the experence special in any way. The afternoon tea was also not good value for money, we were not even offered a refill of the food which is standard on high end hotels. To add insult to the injury the assistant F&B operation emailed me to thank me for the visit but did not bother to reply when i provided negative feedback. Given the choice of great afternoon tea in London i would avoid tea at the Hansom at all costs.

Beautiful setting, however afternoon tea was a real disappointment. Sandwiches were dry, felt like they had been bulk made hours ago and left. Scones lovely but tiny, cakes were ok. Waiting staff were clearly all very new, unsure what things were on the menu, confused about serving veggie or meat options and kept serving incorrectly, had to ask numerous times for a drink. Overall really disappointing and at a premium charge you're better going off to Sketch or a higher end hotel nearby.

The food was nice but over priced. I gave 3 stars for service as i felt they had not been given adequate training for the standard that you would expect for a hotel. But I must say the staff were polite I won't be coming for afternoon tea again here. Small things like the music choices and not changing plates and cutlery......mmmmm....a bit sloppy..... Also the choices of sandwiches ....we're not fantastic....not much taste either but not horrible The place is clean though....I could have the same experience in any 5 star hotel ....sorry. I really wanted to like this place......

Great atmosphere with views of the railway architecture, good service, food, and drink, however what it let it down was the 40 minute wait for 2 small plates, and the high price of said small plates

This 'bar' area is where you can get afternoon tea and drinks. It's quite an open area but still taking in the beautiful architecture of the hotel so the location is great and the atmosphere is relaxed. Unfortunately the service is pretty lacking. For the price of the drinks, and the luxury of the hotel, you'd expect better service. We ended up having three different servers, and all of them forgot things. We had to keep reminding them. It is a nice place to go for a drink - and an alternative to the Gothic Bar or the Booking Office - but be prepared to wait, repeat orders and pay through the nose for what you get.

Excellent customer service. Delicious food and drink at The Hansom. Relaxed vibe. Lunch from Chicken Caesar salad to fish and chips. From afternoon tea of clotted cream scones to smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches and desserts to melt in your mouth from Chocolate and cherry gateau, St Pancras Battenberg cake to lemon curd eclairs and Victoria sponge cake. Green and mint tea and Jasmine tea to Oolang tea or coffee and hot chocolate. Or a glass of Prosecco or champagne. Comfy seating and jazz music in the background. Definitely worth visiting for a booked table at St Pancras Renaissance hotel ground floor prior to a visit at St Pancras Spa in London. The menu catered for my allergy to peanuts only and I felt very happy that nothing on the menu had peanuts so I really enjoyed afternoon tea at The Hansom. Merci beaucoup.

Superb experience! We had drinks and something to eat here on a lovely Monday night. We had some seafood and dessert. The service was fantastic, a special thank you to Mariusz! Definitely recommend, especially for the cocktails.

My daughter treated us to afternoon tea and it was indeed a fabulous treat! The venue is warm and inviting with high ceilings. We were treated very well and looked after right away. The table server was Erica that couldn’t do enough for us. She was polite and engaging in conversation. The sandwiches were tasty and the tiny quiche were mouthwatering. As for the delicate cakes, they were indescribable. Loved the whole ambience as it was so relaxed and we didn’t feel rushed to leave. Would love to go back again very soon.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK: There was a MOUSE running about as I was eating finger sandwiches. Staff was non existent, had to get up twice to tell someone and head over to the reception area, the staff lady did not even ask if I’d liked to move to another area - I went back to my seat and the mouse was STILL THERE. 🤮🤮🤮 update: the restaurant hasn’t replied to me about fully resolving the matter yet.

I visited the Hansom for afternoon tea both in the summer and at Christmas time. Whilst I had a wonderful afternoon tea experience at The Hansom in the summertime and booked another experience for a Christmas gift- sadly the Christmas experience was far below par. The food, tea and presentation were very poor at Christmas, the service and care we had was impeccable in the summer and I was so disappointed that this Christmas did not compare. When I raised this with management on the day, I was told not to expect the same level of service at Christmas owing to the pressure they were under- despite paying the same money. I was very surprised that there was no apology, gesture of goodwill or further discussion. I would have previously recommended the afternoon tea based on my first experience- but after the Christmas afternoon tea I would not sadly recommend The Hansom to others. Very disappointing.

Massively disappointing experience today at this place. The setting is gorgeous but I have rarely felt this unwelcome in a place by the staff there. They clearly knew they had messed up as they didn’t even try to contest when I asked to remove the service charge from the bill but a simple “sorry” would have been appreciated and gone a long way. This is really something they need to work on as it really ruined the experience.

Delightful atmosphere when I arrived with beautiful Christmas tree and a harpist playing. But after she finished the music was less relaxing and a bit too loud. Service was OK. I had to wait 10 mins and then ask for a menu and had to ask twice for my bill. Scones were warm, fluffy and delicious but definitely on the tinier side. Tea leaves escaped from the pot into my cup... no strainer.

Had an amazing time with my sister for afternoon tea as a birthday treat! Erica was our fabulous host and she really made our evening with really good recommendations. We felt very well looked after. We even got little hot chocolates to take away afterwards. We couldn't have asked for more. Best afternoon tea experience 🤍

The place used to be a great place but now it is constrained by a narrow minded management and rifulgesti regiul At 11 you can order champagne but you cannot get sandwiches, food or nibbles as it is too early At 11 you cannot order a scoon because it is too early and they do not make any concessions neither for a baby The tableware is low quality and very trivial and banal made in UAE and not even made in Britain. So the place is no more the bearer of the British style and quality The lack of customer centric attitudes make the place unfriendly and totally non emphatic Great locations indeed

An amazing evening and a beautiful experience we were served by Mariusz with an exceptional customer service. Location is amazing we will be returning for sure. All praise to Mariusz who was very attentive and great suggestions on drinks as well just what we all needed.

Unless you display wealth they will judge you and refuse entry. I phoned up to reserve a table which I did, I asked if they accept non-residents past 8, they said yes, I reserved a table, I turn up and they refused based upon apparence. Disgrace place that should be allowed to operate

I had a wonderful afternoon tea experience at The Hansom. The food, tea and presentation was wonderful, the service and care we had was impeccable, Kris is absolutely fantastic, and the atmosphere was so special-I would highly recommend an afternoon tea here!

Located in one of the most iconic places in London, I highly recommend everyone to experience dining in The Hansom. The range of food and drinks menu is great! Service (Lee in particular) was amazing! 5start, two thumbs up and happy stomach!

The service is good. The toilet is pretty clean. The teas are amazing.

The place is such a great venue. The attentiveness of staff was amazing and the service could not be faulted in any way. Food was delicious, albeit a little pricey, but worth it. Atmosphere was great, with background music not loud enough to hinder your meal conversation.

Nice place for a pot of tea and scones. I really like the Casual but chic vibe. Excellent location.

This was meant to be a nice afternoon meal with a client of mine; The entire evening was a shambles ; from cold food to warm and abysmal service from Vianca. The building and Decor was the best thing that afternoon . Vianca was unable to resolve our issue and to be frank she needed more training as her attitude let the Hansom down. Unfortunately, with the experienced we received we will not visit again.

Discovered this place on our way to Amsterdam. Stunning decor and the service is amazing. Lee the lobby manager was so helpful in recommending dishes. We will be back to try the Booking office!

This was meant to be my grandmothers special day; her 90th birthday. The entire evening was a let down; from cold food to warm drinks and absent service. Pros: The building and decor. Cons: Food was cold, and staff unable to fix(!). Drinks were very expensive and the champagne warm. Wrong glasses with the drinks, alongside a mess up with the birthday celebration. Unfortunately, I’ll not visit again.

The Hansom is a beautiful venue. We had a meeting there and stayed from brunch time to evening. It’s very comfortable with amazing food and service. Erika our waitress was fantastic. She made us feel welcomed and was very attentive. She’s also a lovely person to have around! 😍

An excellent way to unwind after a busy working day.

The bar is situated in the hall of the St. Pancras hotel that occupies a very impressive building. The space, even being an opened one, is well organized and allows for calm conversations. The lighting in the evening is lovely and creates a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Even though the space is huge, it’s warm and comfortable. The cocktails are really nice, the worst part is the food. I’ve got a chicken schnitzel that was completely burnt, and being the one and only part of the dish, except for a small portion of greens, it’s definitely a shame that poor bird was treated in such a cruel way. I was in a hurry so tried to get some healthy parts of the chicken which wasn’t really easy so most of the chicken stayed on the plate. When paying, I informed the ladies about the problem but they didn’t act upon it in any way. Would repeat but go for some basic snacks avoiding real food.

Arrived early. Seated very promptly. Nice Staff. Service was good polite staff. Food was ok. Felt like we were all seated in a Hallway. Service was a little slower than other venues we visited. Did not really get the feel of the place. No real ambience. Nice but was expecting something more luxurious. People were walking by in their hotel dressing gowns to visit the Spa. Not really what you want to see when you are chilling and having Afternoon Tea. Would I recommend probably not. Would I Visit again Maybe but would not be one of my first choices. Only a small choice of cocktails/Mocktails. Felt the the toilets were more luxurious than the tea lounge. Hand Towels were not topped up in the toilet. We have to use tissues to dry our hands. Nice Soap & Hand lotions provided in the toilets.

Lovely food, very filling and plenty for two persons for a lunch. Great service despite being very short-staffed due to the Tube suspensions. They were also very considerate of my dietary restrictions and I'd highly recommend this for a lovely afternoon tea/lunch

Fantastic afternoon with the girls. The service was second none, lovely food, beautiful space with live music that created a very special atmosphere.

We stayed at St. Pancras Renaissance hotel for a night so we grabbed dinner there with our friends. Beautiful place, food was decent but let me tell you about the service we received from our server- 0 stars. Two stars for other servers who served us and helped us, one of them was named Swastik. Our main server was an Asian woman with glasses who I don't think should be serving guests at a restaurant of a five star hotel. Unfortunately, this review is going to be more about her and less about everything else. We never received our menu. There was one menu that was already left on the table which we took turn to use until one of us had to go grab another one ourselves. Mind you there were four of us and a baby. She came to take order a few times but did not even notice that we don't have menus. She was very hard to get attention from and other servers came to our rescue when they saw us turn our heads around to find her. Mind you we didn't just other a couple of drinks, we ordered three bottles of wine and food. When asked for water which we paid for as it was bottled water, she didn't even offer to pour them. When we poured it, it didn't fill all four glasses so we asked for more water which we never got! Just her inattentiveness during our whole dinner was unacceptable.

Beautiful location and food was good, but the service needs improvement. We had 6 (!) different people come to our table and ask if we were ready to order. We asked one of them a question - 2 people came back to provide an answer at different times. It seemed not clear who was managing the table, staff seemed unorganized. Everybody was friendly but it became a bit annoying. Would go back though, maybe it was a one-off situation.

Went for drinks and bar snacks, great atmosphere and good customer service
