Popped in for a couple of drinks on Halloween, it was great to see all the staff had made an effort and were all dressed up! A busy evening for the team, but they all kept smiling! Bea was great! She obviously loves her job, always smiling, very cheery! Thanks Bea for being great!! 😊 fabulous atmosphere as always!

Me and my friend visited for lunch on Tuesday 29th of October - I had the leek and potato soup which was lovely and my friend had the fish finger sandwich and fries which was huge and delicious! The young guy who served us was very friendly and attentive. Look forward to going back soon and trying more of the new menu!

I have never experienced such diabolical service. As a previous reviewer mentioned we ordered 3 chicken pies all of which were extremely cold in the middle (as cold as if they had come from the fridge), those of our party who had the roast beef were unable to eat it. It was tough, stringy and gristly. The chilli burger which my son-in-law ordered was not available, he was informed as the rest of our meals were being served. In fact when we ordered we were told of all the items which were unavailable, this amounted to very nearly half the menu, this being 1pm on a bank holiday Sunday!! My daughter had to remove 6 or7 bay leaves from her curry. I have never heard of anyone leaving bay leaves in a dish when serving. To top it all there was a cat roaming around the restaurant which was jumping up on tables and sniffing at the cutlery and glassware laid out on them. In fact my granddaughter just managed to stop it taking a bite from her fish when it jumped up on our table. I was given endless excuses when I complained to the manager, who actually did reduce my bill somewhat. However I have since been in touch with the head office and was told that an email would be sent to the manager and he would get back to me. Two days later and I am still waiting! I will never go back there, much less will I take my friends and family again. As the hostess I was embarrassed, very upset and, frankly humiliated.

Been here before and okay. Had a £10 off two main meals so decided to use this. Service was good but food was awful. We were asked to let them know what the steak was like. It was cold and most of it could not be cut with a knife. Chips were cold as well. The other meal had hit chucked but cold chips. Steak had to be sent back. Only good thing was did not have to pay for any of the food. I don’t know what has happened to this place. Very unlikely we will go again even for a drink in their nice garden.

Having eaten here before, we were looking forward to our lunch. Staff friendly but very casual both in their approach and dress. Served by waitress in denim shorts -lovely girl but completely inappropriate attire. No wine list. Staff, sermed to have no knowledge of wines available. Many items on menu unavailable and no substitute offered which left a very, very limited choice of starters. We were only told this when ordering, surely it would have been fairer to tell us what wasn't available prior to ordering Mains were 'ok'. Nice piece of fish but salad consisted of a few limp leaves from a packet, no extras. My husband described his burger as average. His chips came in a 'bucket - all 6 of them! Sausage and chips was a hit - that's one out of 3! A lunch that we'd looked forward to but was sadly disappointing so it's unlikely that we'd return

We’ve been here before and been happy, but something has gone badly wrong, as reading the other reviews, poor service is the norm. In our case, we arrived to be told that about 25% of the menu items were unavailable, which wasn’t a good start. Three of our party ordered the chicken and ham pie. These were stone-cold in the middle and had to be sent back. The child’s roast (for the 5yo) was served as an adult portion on a scalding hot plate. A key ingredient for one of our burgers was unavailable but this wasn’t spotted until everything was ready to serve, so that person had to wait for the replacement meal to be cooked whilst everyone else ate their meals. We had to shoo a cat away from another meal that it was millimetres away from taking a bite from. It’s not their cat, but they seem powerless to stop it coming into the restaurant. We didn’t bother to stay for dessert, even though the manager offered free desserts as an apology. With the other poor reviews, head office have offered an apology stating that these reviews give them an opportunity to improve. I just wonder when they will do something about it, as it’s clear that these problems have been ongoing for some while. If they don’t do something about it soon, they’ll go out of business.

If I would have read the reviews on here before coming for lunch, I might not have bothered. Thankfully, I wasn't the decision maker and maybe we arrived on a good day because my experience was actually quite pleasant! The Manor itself is a 16th-century building with all the charm you'd expect - wood beams and panels, etc. Although this was a nice summer's day so we all ate outside in the garden, which had several picnic benches to choose from and enough tranquility to feel relaxing. Like many covid-surviving venues (maybe it was like this before, but I wouldn't know as it was my first time here), service is either at the bar or via a website accessed via the QR code on the tables. A decent selection of food, similar to what Wetherspoons offers but better quality and with a slightly elevated price to match. Two main vegan options on the menu and since I'm a bit tired of burgers, I opted for the sweet potato curry and wasn't disappointed. The food was brought out in good time, from a friendly and helpful server, and it was very tasty. The curry came with rice, a poppadom, and a couple of dips (mango chutney and a raita), all quite delicious. The only real issue is that the car park is small and if you've got a bigger car, it's probably difficult to manoeuvre in and out. But having managed that with little problem, it's not something that's frustrating enough to knock a star off. To be fair, it wasn't overly busy when we went (lunch time on a Saturday in August) and I didn't experience any of the issues mentioned elsewhere on this site, so I really can't fault anything about my visit. Would definitely come again if I'm in the Brighton area as it's enough out of the way to not be full of the town crowds.m, and charming enough to feel a bit special.

Dining hall was cold when we arrived and had to request the fire be lit. Excessively long wait times to be served in the bar which was clearly understaffed. The whole place needs a really thorough deep clean, the toilets smelled bad and the floors were filthy. Food was OK but nothing to write home about. It was particularly frustrating to find no prices on the drinks menus making the choice of wine a difficult process necessitating the bar staff individually researching the price for each bottle. The whole place was shabby, for example cat food left in the public passage from bar to dining hall. We won’t be rushing back!

Yet again, by 17.45 on a Sunday, the Hangleton Manor has run out of roast meats. They advertise "Sunday Roasts" but have never enough to go around, despite taking [personal] bookings when they have been told specifically, "we're coming for the roast." Though, to be fair: nut roast wsd available (I wonder why?). This has happened on two occasions in the last six weeks. Our patience has finally run out (though I do like to try to support local businesses) they do need to learn.

Don't waste your money as the food is average at best and the serving appalling. It is such a shame that a place with so much character and potential is so poor. We arrived on time for our booking but stood waiting for 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We were then shown to our table and then waited for another 10 minutes before anyone came to us. We then had to ask for some menus! We ordered some drinks and then waited another 10 minutes before we finally had to ask for someone to take our order. Another 30 minutes later our food arrived and still no drinks. We had to ask for our drinks again and we were told that they were in their way. They did finally arrive when we were halfway through our meal. The food was at the best just about average and it's very clear that the staff have not been trained in anyway. The only good thing is the premises. None of our party of 6 will be returning.

Dreadful experience, avoid at all costs. Our sharing starter was served without plates, one main course was forgotten about therefore I ended up watching others eat, I had to go and find a member of staff and ask where mine was. No one asked if we needed more drinks, or even if the food was okay. Desserts took ages to arrive. The bill was paid but the server just walked off without even offering a receipt. We visited as a young family for Sunday roast, it was very disappointing. The beef was over over cooked, the gravy a questionable colour and the red cabbage was almost off in flavour. The only good part was the Yorkshire pud. The prices were pretty much the same as you’d find elsewhere in Brighton and Hove for a high quality roast. The Hangleton Manor I’m afraid to say was no better than a Toby Carvery. The venue itself is lovely with a fantastic garden, so perfect for young children to play around. Unfortunately the chef is not good enough to run a kitchen of this size. Sorry.

A friend recommended this place for a roast, having heard good, word of mouth, reviews. Really lovely place, garden is decent & service was good, certainly looks the part. Pictures on the roast on the website looked deliscious, and reviews on another website seemed reasonable. The food did look very similar to the advertised photos in fairness. I have to echo the other review left today. The beef wasn't pleasant at all. It was served rare as explained on the menu, but was tough in places and inedibly chewy in others. I do normally enjoy rare beef. I'm no fan of red cabbage so only tried a little, but that wasn't enjoyable either. Peas were spoiled with sliced leek or similar, which was removed with relative ease. Carrots were fine, albeit somewhat bland. Yorkshire pudding was spot on! Potatoes acceptable, albeit not especially crisp. I would have preferred more than three small ones. My gravy was fine. Had the beef been good, I would have requested an extra side of potatoes. I don't think I've ever left as much of a roast as I did today. Especially the meat. I normally leave a clean plate. There was no query from staff when they collected the remains of my dinner, as the whether there was a problem. I probably won't visit again for food, unless made aware of improvements. Wouldn't have an issue returning for drinks. I imagine the beer garden is heaving when the weather is nice. This place has so much potential! It should be noted I ate quite late, and had one of the last available roasts.

Visited Sunday with family. Service was ok, not great but the food - especially the roast, was not good value. Had the chicken which was an extremely small portion with some overdone warm veg. For £15.95 this is way over priced for the offering. The ‘roast potatoes’ were 4 baby potatoes that had barely seen an oven. Plenty of other places in Hove that are far superior and probably cheaper than this place. Real shame as it has potential to be a great local but sadly won’t be returning.

Unfortunately did not rectify any issues with the new menu change. Met my friends and my girlfriend here during my lunch break on the bank holiday Monday, we sat outside and as I only had an hour, I got them to order food before my break started so I can meet them and have food by the time I got there. It wasn’t even busy and we waited nearly 2 hours for food, in the end I had to take away mine by the time it arrived and I was late back to work, the burger was stone cold and the chips hard and cold! Unfortunately the change in menu has not answered any concerns which I had previously and unfortunately giving it a second chance was a mistake, such a shame and stick to having a drink here instead, the food service will only leave a bad taste.

Great visuals, lovely garden, nice bar with great beers... Terrible roasts. You pay for the location, the garden and the building, and that's it. The service is so slow, and you're left with a half cleared table, that mounts up with glasses and plates. The Sunday roasts are really poor. The meat (beef) is really bland, not cooked well, the potatoes equally budget, the gravy weak and watery and the Yorkshire pudding so tough you'd need a steak knife. I had better roast dinners thirty years ago in school. Get more, better serving staff and rip up the kitchen and start again. That said, great building, great selection of beers and the manager is a great bloke.

We’ve visited The Hangleton Manor before for food, so I decided to book it for a family meal. It was incredibly busy, with an event in the gardens for Good Friday, but the restaurant seemed chaotic and disorganised. Staff are friendly and apologetic, but it seems like nobody’s been trained to clear tables properly and look after assigned customers. Our place settings were a bit grubby, along with smeared glasses, which I hope was down to the pub being over busy. A waitress took our order quite quickly, but we waited an hour for drinks to arrive. We would have happily gone to the bar to buy them had we known. Several staff were lifting and moving tables around us to fit in large parties but nobody seemed to be paying much attention to anyone else seated. It might be that there were a lot of trainee staff on duty that day, or that everyone was just overwhelmed by how busy it was. When the food finally arrived, some of it was cold like it had been sitting about while some was fresh and warm. Half my family were fed up, so the overall dining experience wasn’t the best. It’s a shame as I’d heard good things from friends.

Although the staff were friendly the service was slow and the quality of food disappointing. The bread we ordered (which costs just under £4 per portion) to accompany our whitebait was so hard it could not be eaten. Booked for food for a birthday celebration. One of our party has food allergies and the staff could not be more helpful and attentive. Great covid protection measures in place. The food was great and the beer cold. I was concerned about the 2 hour...

A pub with no beer.... Run out of gas again? The organisation is absolutely abysmal....that's it for me...Hall and Woodhouse have wrecked the best pub in Hove.

Soup was extremely watery and tasteless. Chicken was leg and half breast (very small). Ice Cream was meant to be Hineycomb and Toffee but tasted of vanilla. Overall not impressed. Customers took no notice of one way system. Cdrtainly not value for money.

Entrance clearly signposted. Warm welcome from a very pleasant member of staff, in fact all staff were pleasant and professional during our visit. Was most impressed with Covid measures, throw away menus, our drinks, utensils and food was left on a tray for us to take. It was pleasing to see tables wiped very well after people left. Now on to food, we chose mainly burgers & chips or fish & chips. All were good, I could have done with a few more mushy peas with my meal but this was a minor point. Decided not to have deserts although they did look good, we had coffees instead. A nice relaxing atmosphere catching up with friends, we will return!

Really enjoyed our lunch at The Hangleton Manor today. Easy to follow social distancing routes and rules and just wonderful surroundings. We chose a table outdoors as the weather was wonderful, and were really impressed how both staff and customers were all keeping their distance. The kofte starters were tasty and huge and the mains were just as enjoyable. The steak and tangle foot pie was a real hit, melt in the mouth, bursting with flavour and delicious gravy. The accompanying mash and red cabbage were also delicious. We will be back for a Sunday roast soon!

We were very impressed by the service we had today. The food was excellent and the staff, all of which were wearing masks, were welcoming, friendly, organised and made us feel very safe. All the guidelines were very clear, ordering food and drinks on mobile was easy, tables and benches were thoroughly cleaned after each was vacated, ready for the next guests.I really cannot praise enough the effort that has obviously been made by management and staff. Thank you.

My first disappointment was that there were only two vegetarian options and both of them were Indian - basically curry or some sort of Balti burger. We both opted for the curry. When it arrived it was barely lukewarm so we asked if they could please microwave it for us which they did. The curry was just served with rice and a pot of chutney, there were no naan breads or any other accompaniments which would have made it better. The curry was nothing special, I’ve made better ones at home! For the money it cost I would have expected a bigger, tastier and hotter meal! Very disappointing. This was my third visit here, my first meal was nice, the second time I had vegetarian roast on a Sunday which was awful, I couldn’t eat it, terrible roast so I thought I’d give them one last try but no, I will not be returning.

We arrived without a booking, asked for a table for 3 & was asked to wait a few minutes whilst one was found. Went to the bar which was busy with only 1 member of staff serving which was a little slow. Table was arranged after a few minutes, We had 2 roast beef dinners & the Malaysian aubergine curry. The beef was cooked to perfection & was the best I have ever tasted anywhere on this planet. The curry was tasty but as stated in a previous post the vegetables where a little big (but my good lady managed to use her knife & fork to sort out that major problem). The waitresses where efficient & very good. All in all a tasty meal in a great setting. Thank you. I shall return

After reading some really bad reviews recently we decided to give hangleton manor another visit for lunch. It's been over 2 years since we last went so with trepidation we booked. We had the mixed starter alongside tiger prawns. Service was ok to start with but it is one thing needing attention as only one poor girl running all of service. Food was fine, tasty but for the price there could have been a little more of it. Overall we will be returning to what is still a beautiful setting and pub.

Went with a friend on a Saturday afternoon, no one in the restaurant. We waited ages for our order to be taken as there seemed only one member of staff covering both the bar and us in the restaurant. (Which was empty bar us!).Waited a good while for our starters & even longer for our drinks. The main was a little disappointing, we both had Ham, Egg and chips. The eggs were very undercooked (the top was just - clear jelly, not nice!). Ham was ok, nothing special for the price. I had eaten here once before & enjoyed my meal and had returned for that reason. Maybe it was just bad luck on this particular day, not sure I’ll return a 3rd time to find out.

We hired the Great Hall at Hangleton Manor for a birthday and xmas celebration. It was well worth the money, it was a spacious venue, with plenty of room for children and adults to play/mingle in, and had access to the lovely large garden. The Manager and staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The food was good quality, it all got served at the same time and was hot. We would definitely go there again for another big family do, there were 24 of us, but the room could take more.

This was my first visit to Hangleton Manor for lunch. The Malaysian Aubergine Curry sounded inviting. It was not! The Aubergine was cut in large chunks and were almost raw - the green beans likewise - a most unappetizing dish. I sent mine back after the first bite and was offered no alternative unless I paid in full for another dish. In the end they gave me a £5 discount on a £10.45 dish. I shall not be visiting this place gain.

5 of us were here for Sunday lunch yesterday, 10th November. The service was ok, the food was good and there was a wide choice for vegetarians but all the portions were huge. We all had to leave food on our plates and I hate to see waste. They definitely need to get their portion control sorted, it really upset me seeing so much waste being carried out from other tables too. We won’t rush to go back.

Hadn’t been here for some time and decided to drop in for a drink and, maybe, bar food. Found a table in the bar and had to put up with a couple of noisy kids with their mums nearby. That wasn’t too bad but then more kids descended and it looked like a kids party was about to take place - in the bar area. The noise became unbearable and we left. I have no problem with kids having fun or kids in pubs but don’t expect them to be running around and shouting at the top of their voices. If Hangleton Manor is going to allow this surely they can find an area for it away from where grown ups want to enjoy a drink, food and chat.

An extremely badly managed restaurant. Poor quality. Booked a table for family get together for 5 people, booking taken but when we arrived a notice displayed to say no kitchen open until 15 minutes after our booking time.Waited over 40 minutes for our starters, then ages for the plates to be taken away, then a further 45 minutes for the main course. No explanation given and restaurant was not busy as only a few tables occupied. The main courses only arrived after we enquired (had to get up from table to find a server) where they were, to be told they were just plating up. The server said, "chefs are thin on the ground tonight". If this was the case then they should never have taken our order or our booking. When the meals finally arrived they came in stages and were not hot, some items tepid and vegetables stone cold. Awful meal. Again no attempt at explanation or apology. Very surprised and disappointed that a Hall and Woodhouse pub restaurant should be so shockingly badly managed as have had good experiences previously.

Family meal this lunchtime with a large group. Despite not all fitting on one table they were hesitant to let us spread onto a ‘reserved’ table. They couldn’t tell us when it was reserved from or if we could use the table. Well, it’s not rocket science, check the bookings! Then we were told the only two veggie options had run out! Great, so with no pasta option either my daughter was left to have chips and flat bread as a main meal! The guy who served us just made excuses that he was usually on the bar so didn’t really know the menu and yes there should be some pasta but they’ve decided to take it off!In general the food was quite nice but the place was not managed terribly well. It was a shame because it could be quite atmospheric, it seemed to lack something.

This place has a lot of potential. Unfortunately the management are on deaf ears. The service is so slow and when you do receive your food it's cold. We all had steak and it was cold and awlful. The chips were the same, cold & tasteless. Why do I go back every year you wonder?? Well to think things would change. It's very sad to see such a nice manor with a beautiful garden. If you look at these reviews most are filled with the same views. We won't be coming back. Absolutely poor service & food.

This is an historic place beautifully maintained Has a bar menu area which is dog friendly and a larger restaurant area but not for dogs Particularly like visiting in the summer as it has a large garden and plenty of seating Also when the trees are in full leaf you don't see any of the housing that surrounds it which gives it an even more private and intimate feel Worth checking Google maps to get there as a little hidden away

Me and my family popped along to the Hangleton Manor for a few drinks to celebrate my brothers 21st birthday. The weather was beautiful so we decided to sit outside in the sunshine. There are a lot of tables, some in the shade, some in the sunshine and others in the sunshine but with parasols. Somewhere to sit for everyone as well as lovely grassy areas shaded by big trees. A perfect beer garden and probably the best one in hove.
