Excellent quality food, great price. Well worth a visit. Very reasonably priced

It was quiet when we visited as it was nearer the end of the afternoon opening but the staff were great and the food was delicious - best lasagne I have had for a long time

First time here and can say absolutely amazing site Ruth ur an amazing host so friendly on arrival and a big thank you for that gorgeous pint you brought us out to ur bear garden area will definitely be bank xx only down side is renew sign post xx but apart from that amazing all round xx

Service was fantastic, friendly polite and helpful. In my opinion the food wasn't as good or as tasty as I've had in other local restaurants. Sunday roast and mash was a little watery and gravy was bland, but almost saved by the roasties. Overall good not great.

Nice little venue outdoors in the tipi/marquee. But could do with some tidying up of the outdoor areas surrounding which we’re letting the place down.

We went for a family Sunday lunch, which was beautiful, the beef was melt in your mouth, big fluffy Yorkshire pus, fresh veg, and excellent deserts, l had a cheese board but they had cheesecake and puds with custard, coffee was strong and fresh, service was effective and friendly

What a beautiful place! Super friendly staff and the food was delicious. I forgot to take a picture of my Sunday dinner but I devoured this Easter egg cheesecake 😋 Also stopping at the caravan site and it's such a lovely little place. Been a pleasure to stay here 🤩

Top draw Sunday dinner. Very tasty pork dinner with crackling, pig in blanket, stuffing etc and a gravy boat as standard. Yorkshire pud was light and tasty and starter/ lemon tart were both excellent. Will be back, 6 star venue. Great value

Everything was to the hugest standard

We visited the Hammer & Pincers for a Wedding and stayed the night in our camper. The Wedding day/night was fantastic, the staff worked extremely hard, were polite and professional and the camping area had everything we needed. We had planned to stay for Sunday lunch but unfortunately had to change our plans. The kitchen staff were very accommodating and gave us a take away instead. Thank you for everything.

Having never visited before and having several challenges due to my neuro diversity, I cannot thank Rachel and the team enough for her helpfulness, understanding and hospitality. Thank you! Lovely cozy pub in a countryside setting, enjoyed a damn fine lunch time butty and pot of tea. Will look forward to a return visit for a pint and pub tea. Varied Lunch menu and specials board. Food and service excellent. Two rooms used at lunch time and in warm weather there is an outside seating are. Lovely warm fire during winter times. Parking in front and extended parking for events through gate.

You might want to look into starting a fund me page and getting a public footpath built so people can walk from the nearby town to your pub.Also might want to look into getting a bus stop added so it can be added to Bus 7,5 etc.

The food was alright, it was a Sunday roast and tasted good the thing that bothered me most was that our table was sticky even after the waitress wiped it down, I am not sure if it just needed revarnishing

The best all round eateriey in the area

Beef roast dinner is one of the best I’ve had, the red cabbage, the gravy and the beef absolutely delicious, would definitely recommend you eat here.

We decided to pop in at lunchtime and try the fish deal: 2 meals for £20. As always the food was delicous and the service impeccible. Love the black sheep cider on draft. Desserts were gorgous too. Highly Recommended.

Stayed at their touring site for 2 nights, went into the pub 3 times for meals and really felt welcomed, staff were great Eve and Denise were so lovely always smiling and Eve is such a laugh we as a family like a bit of a joke around and Eve joined in which was great. Food was absolutely amazing could not fault it highly recommend. Definitely be going back soon

Even though I've only had the opportunity to visit this establishment on one occasion (when visiting family), I was generally impressed. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and food was tasty and reasonably priced.

Recently visited, food was tasty and piping hot, large portions, service was good. A nice modern environment and clean. It would be best to reserve a table in advance or you probably won't get one, if dropping into the premises on the off chance of a table.

Not much fun going to the loo when it's chucking it down, small bar,only room for two to serve hence you have to be patient to get a drink, lacking in choice of spirits, some seating is in the form of wooden benches very quickly becoming uncomfortable. + side - - big and reasonably warm in winter.

What a beautiful place, we heard about this by word of mouth and it did not disappoint, staff are very friendly always willing to help or have a chat if they have the time, the building is very clean, airy and welcoming, the food was amazing my wife my 2 children and I all had a Sunday roast with came to around £43 will definitely be going back in the near future

Excellent food and very friendly service

Only one word to describe this Campsite “Grim”. Booked our campervan in for two nights for a pitch with EHU in November at £28 per night. At this price I expect a high quality pitch. Our hard standing pitch was small and surrounded by mud. We also discovered that a busy train line passes right through the bottom of the site which adds to the noise already generated by the nearby A1. As you will see from the pictures the facilities were disgusting and should really be condemned. We decided that we would only stay 1 night and left early the next morning. Sadly no one available to talk to raise our concerns. Avoid!

This pub is just awesome. The service was just fantastic, and the food was really really nice. The pub is set in a nice little area (with limited parking so be careful if you come on a busy night). Belly pork was exceptional and the chicken burger was great too. Death by chocolate is recommended. Service was quick, friendly and personal without being intrusive. Drinks were kept topped up, and we were checked up on. If I could give 6* I would.

I had my surprise baby shower here today and what a gorgeous little room it was on, very cute and country looking. The food was lovely hot and cold buffet and the guests enjoyed the cakes. The staff were so helpful, I have gestational diabetes and they made me a roast chicken salad especially as I couldn’t have much from the buffet! 5 stars for the friendliness, customer service, atmosphere and the food! Thank you!!

Starters were lovely. However the beef on the main was shocking. No flavour, chewy and full of fat. That was enough for us to never go back.

Excellent first time in many years and still as good.

Went for a Sunday dinner. First of all staff are a mix of try far to hard and have no socials skills at all. Food was surprisingly disappointing, beef was a tough as the table I was eating it on. Dinners didn’t come with all menu items stated, food was very poor and overall experience resulted in a first and definitely last time visit.

Our son David ran the Great North Run in 2021 so, as we were staying overnight nearby, my wife Geraldine and I came here with him on the night before the run. The meal and the staff who served it were so good that we came back again last Saturday, the night before the 2022 run. The meal was once again amazing and we can't praise highly enough the efforts of Sandra (who now has her own fan club of at least three!), Rachel, Eve, Denise, Ben and their very talented chef (whose name is not known - sorry!) We'll definitely be back again for pre-GNR in 2023!!

Cant fault the pub and the food was amazing and good value for meals.. Eve and staff very friendly ..nice little shelving area with some nice bits.. we purchased angus the alpaca as he was cute.. now for the camping we stayed 2 night at £28 per night..(very expensive) now for that price l expected a little better. ... toilets and showers could have done with upgrading.. no lighting to get to toilets, pitches uneven and campsite untidy with wooden barrels which had rubbish and burnt areas. Bin area messy and when weddings on very noisy with music till late. Also very close to main line railways and very noisy all day and night. Barrier to get into campsite very tight squeeze but if wedding on then this was raised all day for overflow carpark, leaving vans unsecure. Would return to pub but not campsite

Had the most delicious Sunday lunch. We had hoped for garlic mushrooms as a starter but they weren't on the menu. Mentioned this to our waitress and she spoke to the chef who did them just for us. What fantastic service

Booked a table for 9 for two important birthdays two weeks ago quoting thecanvil room due to having two autistic kids. Only one in the diary even sent in do is choices to get a reply by a Rachel to thank me. Found put on the day of booming that they had moved us into the main eating area. The attitude was that it was human error shrug shrug no apology. Cancelled the meal got given a bottle of proseco. The room was set up for a wedding the next afternoon could have been done in the morning. Wont use this pub again I am pleased they could afford to lose a £200+ order.

Great place for a gig. The updated tent was beautiful, great for the rain showers. Lovely, friendly staff and the food this year for the gig was spot on!

Lovely pub and camping on the outskirts of Newton Aycliffe… had a very nice meal then stayed over on the camping field… £18 to park for the evening and pub prices were ok too, two mains for £20 and portions were generous… will certainly return! 👍

Fab venue for a wedding real festival vibe.

We celebrated our daughter’s wedding here in July 2022. It was a beautiful event and we were delighted with the venue and all aspects of the day. Special thanks to Rachel the venue manager who was superb in every way. Big shout out too to the rest of the Hammer and Pincers crew who were so friendly, effective and generally amazing! Thank you all so much for helping to make the day so special.

Enjoyed a lovely girly lunch and the most delicious smoked salmon and prawn salad. Others enjoyed parmos (half portions available and different toppings) and the lentil lasagne. The sorbets were divine - particularly the blackcurrant one. The service was brilliant and manager Ben is very welcoming and has just the right touch. All in all, a lovely dining experience.
