The Woodman Inn - Durham in County Durham

A local pub with a pool table a big screen tv. It's in a residential area. We just had a couple of early evening drinks, I had the guest beer which was a very tasty Golden Ale and the house Malbec was very good too. The log burner was just what was needed on a very cold night. The was no food being served, but the friendly barman helpfully recommended a couple of restaurants very nearby. We went one and his recommendation was spot on. I'd go back when back in Durham

An escape from the excessive noise from pubs closer to the centre. Space for small groups either sitting or standing limited by the pool table at rear.

Went here for a pint and ended staying the whole evening. Great Karaoke evening will certainly be returning

Only popped in for a quick pint. Was hoping for food, but they only serve what they called bar snack - but this did include pizza!

Brilliant beer garden with a bar.

What a fabulous place to soak up some real atmosphere with friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, big screen TV'S, a ripping good play area for the kids, undercover and spacious outside bar, plenty of seating and umbrellas for those occasional hot sticky days, cool lawn areas and plenty of room, and just a short walk up Claypath from the centre of Durham City. Yes it's the favourite place for a few laughs for these two Aussies. Regards Cliff the Aussie hehe...

Great pub with a good choice and beers and ales. Nice, friendly staff and pubgoers too. Also the outside space is a great addition when the sun's out.

Visited the beer garden on Saturday afternoon with friends , great reception and service from Claire , Emmy looked after us with drinks served to the table , probably the best beer garden in Durham . well worth a visit

Sorry but the people behind the bar were not the best. The female never pulled a pint. Whilst the male has a different aspect of pulling a pint. Absolutely flat !! Did get quite defensive when I said I could pull a pint. Not really impressed Having had feed back from owner I have updated my review On the Thursday of our visit there appeared to be an open mike night which made for a good atmosphere. Don’t know if it’s every week. If they get the beer sorted we would return.

The pub itself is a nice enough establishment and has a good selection of beers. My problem is that the hand pulled beer was awful and just not pulled correctly resulting in a very flat pint of Timothy Taylors . The beer itself was OK but was just not pulled right . When a friend we were with , who is more than qualified to pull a pint of cask ale , offered to show the bar man how he should pull a pint , the bar man became quite rude and stated he knew how to pull a pint. I can say that his manners left a lot to be desired and the beer was pulled wrong at all levels..my friend was only offering friendly advice but he was knocked back and it was rude. Shame as the pub was pleasant and atmosphere good.

Great place in Durham. Good bar snack food and a nice pint. Great for kids in the garden and plenty of TV for watching sport as well. A fab family and dog friendly pub

Appears to be a 'local' but a nice friendly bar.

Must be good for football fans. There was a crowd inside. Attractive, not so footbally decor, but very noisy. Refused to make us shandy, as "there is none", hmm... So obviously we were not welcomed, unfortunately. Might try another day, although why, if there is plenty of other good places in the area.

Recently renovated to a very high s Nd tasteful standard and run by Dougie and Gemma. One of Durhams newest gems. It has a great beer tent out the back and it's a great mix of local residents and students without any aggravation. This is a great pub and one of my favourite venues. It's a little out of the way in terms of the city pub route but if you want a more relaxed and sophisticated experience then it's well worth the detour...

First time here over Halloween and the staff were super friendly and welcoming and the place had a great atmosphere, definitely visit again 🎃🍻

Great pub on the outskirts of the city centre. Offers quality ales and the atmosphere is great. There is a decent beer garden out the back also. very welcoming to all including families.

Excellent service & proper pub friendly

First of all, a caveat to my review. When I visited this fine establishment I was rather intoxicated so some of the finer details of this place are, to say the least, rather lacking. However, here's what I remember. The bar staff were excellent, friendly and inviting and happy to chat. There was a young lady doing a turn in the gazebo at the back - very entertaining They were showing the boxing with plenty of screens and a good atmosphere. All in all - full marks. Would definitely go back!

We came here last week for bottomless brunch as a treat for my sister who was back from Australia. There were 4 of us and we booked the evening before, left it late but they were very accommodating. As soon as we arrived we felt welcomed and looked after. The pub is very nice. The atmosphere was great and a very nice place to sit and relax. We were greeted by Claire and taken to our seats. Our drink order was then taken and had the drinks down on our table within a few minutes. The drinks available were unlimited prosecco, unlimited selected cocktails or unlimited bottled lager. You can also mix which drink you get if you want to try a few different things. Our food followed quickly after our drinks. The food was served on 2 big wooden boards. There was a selection of cheeses, crackers, bread, dips, olives, grapes, meats, the list goes on. All the food was beautiful and tasted very fresh. They even brought out more crackers when we ran out to finish off the cheeses. Claire was brilliant and everytime our drinks were empty they had been filled within a matter of a couple of minutes. We feel very looked after and she was easy to talk to. The pub has a lovely beer garden aswell which is worth a visit especially in the summer. We can't recommend this place enough and me and my fiancé will be booking to go again. Thank you Claire and her team 10/10!

Sadly only had 1 drink in here as it was a late find. Lovely pub with some great seating, friendly staff and nice beers and wines. Avoid City Centre Durham on a Saturday evening and have a few in this wonderful pub.

Its a lovely bar, fabulous beer garden and TVs to watch sports. Good selection of reasonably priced beers and some guest ales. Proprietors are very nice people, I'll make a habit to call regular as I love these type of bars!

Dare I say the best pub in Durham? A wide range of interesting drinks at very competitive prices, even compared with student bars with a nice ambiance and just about everything you could ask for from a pub; pool table, live sport, nice garden, cheery staff, pub dog and more. It even manages to successfully host a mixed clientele of students and locals, which is unusual.

Good music and a limited selection of real ale. Unfortunately, the whole experience was ruined by the bad language of one or two of the locals. Not the kind of language you want to hear when you're having a quiet drink with your wife. Left after one drink...

This was another first for me on my latest visit to Durham. Normally I drive past this pub to park at the multi storey down the road but I stayed over night and went in for drink. This is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks. The beer selection was very good, local ales as well as usual brands. The barman was very nice and helpful in his recommendations and it had good music playing. I will go back in next time I am in Durham.

Recently taken over by Black Storm Brewery, a huge improvement from its grim days. Definitely worth a visit to sample some great ales!

Very friendly people who manage the pub but unfortunately they are going to leave,despite having put a lot of money and effort into making the pub a local to feel welcome in.I wish them lots of luck in whatever they do next and hope that whoever takes the Woodman on maintains the feel that is present now.
