Excellent food. Compliments to the chef. The food was first class. Presented well and very tasty. Can't fault the meal at all. 5 stars.

What a lively place staff are wonderful, Lily was an absolute darling fantastic and was professional server and was hilarious such a lovely girl who deserves a pay rise. Great place.

Well it’s been a few years since we ventured to try the Halfway House at Brentwood and back then it wasn’t a place I thought I would return until today. My fully electric car died on me so as I waited I thought I would venture into the Halfway House once more. I’m glad my car failed! Excellent staff (always a good sign) I had the humble steak and ale pie and it was one of the best I have had in a very long time. Turn into The Halffway House off the A127 and enjoy good English food served with a smile.

We were a group of 15 family members attending a family 80th. The staff were fantastic and the food was lovely. Would highly recommended and come back in the future! Particular thanks to Daisy, Macy and Jackie you were all great!

Went to the Halfway House with family and friends to celebrate my 70th birthday. 30 of us and I must say the food and staff were excellent. Very good service, everyone had their food at the same time and the drinks were flowing. I want to say a very big thank you to Deeanne, Macy, Daisy and Jodie for looking after us and making my get together special.

Great food mostly, only the dessert was falsely advertised on specials menu as pear and almond tart with cream - the “cream” was some godawful substitute called Kerrymaid, tastes like liquid plastic - but they didn’t understand the difference when I asked. Pity I had to actually swallow some to find out.

On 19th june we got married at the Halfway house. What an amazing day. Thank you to everyone who made the day so special and easy for us! They honestly couldn't of done more for us!Any other events we do we will 100% be coming back!Thank you again

I know in these trying times it’s wrong to criticise.. but I’m sorry I’m going to. Shown to a table and then forgot about. When I did get served I had the most dreadful pint of ipa I’ve ever had. Totally flat and lifeless it was so bad I gave it the flowers and walked away. £4.50 for something that tasted like they’d washed the plates in it. I was asked if I’d like a menu, which thankfully never arrived.

Popped in for lunch with the family at the weekend - was very busy as the sun was out. We were greeted at the front entrance and taken to our table out in the garden it was a little too hot for my youngest son so a lovely member of staff moved us onto the decking area with some shade. Food was amazing can’t wait to return next weekend!

No complaints on the food but the staff are so miserable and rude in our experience, after we had paid the bill and took our time to finish our drinks the manager woman asked how much longer were we going to be because we were taking up a space in the car park (which was pretty much empty) and informed us that we were pushing our luck, which is a strange attitude - you would think pubs and bars would be doing their best post lockdown but definitely not here.

Just had Sunday lunch on our first ever visit here. Lovely food, no frozen veg, all fresh and delicious! Staff are so welcoming and attentive we will definitely be back soon

When we arrived there were not many cars in the car park so I was a little wary. What a lovely surprise - lovely friendly staff and wonderful food. Great choice of food and a set menu too. Staff very polite and attentive. We had quite a wait for the food which obviously meant it was all cooked fresh. Food was delightful - well doe to the chef- we will return soon.

Called in on Sunday Evening for a lovely meal x my roast beef dinner was outstanding and delish, one of the best Dinners I have ever had x My hubbys mother burger was equally outstanding too x our server was Deanne, who in these difficult times was informative, polite and super friendly and efficient, and showed us to a lovely table. Thank you Deanne you were a star and really hope to return again when working in the area x would deffo recommend dining here x thank you so much xxx

This was my first visit despite living nearby for a number of years. Obviously COVID was amongst us and that must be taken into account. I phoned ahead to book a table and on arrival myself and my partner were offered two tables to choose from. There were a few occupied tables in the room. I believe this was normally the bar area and not the actual restaurant. It did lack some atmosphere but was set up well to deal with the pandemic. Our server was cheerful and helpful offering the menu and the specials menu too. My partner chose sausage and mash along with me. It was good and filling. Overall I will return if only to sample the main restaurant.

Visited HWH twice in August for afternoon drinks in the sunshine. Table service APP very easy to use and staff very friendly (Sue). Pub has done very well with preparations and changes to cope with COVID. Gardens beautifully kept and ample parking. Definitely going back.

Have been here several times in the past but met some friends here last week for a post lock-down lunch. I must say that the HWH team have done a fantastic job in preparing the bar / restaurant for covid measures. We sat in the garden which is immaculate - the HWH team have spent a lot of time here during lock-down painting and refurbing the whole garden area and it looks great! The quality and standard of food and service from Shaun, Sue, Courtney was excellent as always. Thank you HWH team, see you again soon.

The Halfway House team have done such a good job at adapting to the new covid secure measures without it feeling like you're being restricted. Great food, great service, table app works brilliantly to place your order. We will definitely be back to take advantage of the 'Eat Out to help out scheme'In fact i think I may just book a weekly slot for the month

Had a lovely lunch here today, the food was excellent and the service brilliant. It was lovely to sit in the garden and all socially distant and very well organised. Would definitely recommend for lunch or dinner, Deanne and the team are doing a fantastic job!

Met for lunch and sat outside. Good service and all social distancing measures worked well including the app and speed of service.

Sat out in the garden, used the app code on the table to order at about 6.15pm .. was very easy to do .. drinks and food arrived quickly. Food was great, good portions and freshly cooked. Only down side they called last orders at 7pm !!! .. I checked website said last orders for food at 8pm .. thankfully staff didn’t rush us out of the garden as it was a lovely evening.

I recently went to the Halfway House for a meal with my family and can't reccomend enough.Due to location and size of the premises Covid-19 fears are completely laid to rest with their implemented measures and professionalism of the staff.The Food was excellent which was enjoyed in their pretty outdoor beer garden.The kids really enjoyed playing in the kids area and the food was fantastic.Will definitely be going back more over the summer!The two bar staff that served us Courtney & Charlotte were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us.It was so lovely being back out and can't wait to go back!

Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Arrived to meet our large family yesterday in the beautiful beer garden. Tables well spaced and greeting warm and friendly. Service prompt and drinks arrived quickly. We were shown to a clean freshly decorated area which was light and well ventilated. The food was delicious, Sunday lunch piping hot and plentiful. Staff very attentive from start to finish topping up our drinks regularly. In this difficult time of Covid-19 this is a wonderful venue where you feel safe and relaxed. Well done to all staff and management. We will be back soon.

I visited The Halfway House today with my family. We were met at main entrance by a very friendly member of staff who asked us to use handsanitiser before seeing us to our table. All staff wore the required PPE. Menu choices were excellent and our food was delicious and of a very high standard. My daughter is vegan and the options were excellent - the vegetable curry was a knockout she said! I ordered fish cakes, and apple crumble for dessert. Highly recommend. Had the weather been better we would have had lunch in the gorgeous garden. Lots of signs to direct guests to Toilets and Enter and Exits. The HH team are exceptional. So looking forward to returning.

Had an amazing lunch today! There were so many choices and all had amazing presentation. Service was friendly, Staff were brilliant and all wore required PPE. Social distancing was very easy as there was plenty of space. Garden was beautiful with many tables. I definitely recommend here. Can’t wait to return.

Over the lockdown the owners have done an amazing refurb. Best beer garden I've seen in a long time! Great food, great service and lots of social distancing practices in place. Could nt recommend more.

Had my 60th party here February 2020. Room is ideal, good size, & looked great. Staff helpful & bar staff work well together whether they are in the general bar or restaurant. Defo recommend

We recently held a wake at The Halfway House for a dear friend and former regular customer. He had hosted monthly Classic Z Club Car Meets here for many, many years. Thanks to Events Manager Jade for her help and understanding in accommodating our needs he had a tremendous send off.

Went to the halfway tonight and I cannot fault the food or the service! The staff who served us were very attentive and I can’t wait to come back again. A big thank you to the team - Jo, Ali, Vicky, Deanne and Amy

Fantastic food! Beautifully presented tasty and plentiful lunch. Extensive menu so something for everyone. The atmosphere was cosy as it was terribly weather outside, it was homely and warm in the large restaurant. The service was excellent with friendly and attentive staff. I can recommend the salmon dish it was delicious. My daughter in law had Caesar salad and comment that the homemade Caesar dressing was the best she had tasted.HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Website stated that it opened at 11:00am, in fact, it was midday. However, we were in the Travelodge next door so it wasn’t a problem. My friend and I spent most of the afternoon in the bar area. We had a few beers, of which the choice was very good. Later, we had a meal each which was great. I had the pork belly with dauphinois potatoes and my friend had the fish and chips. Both meals were of a good standard and very tasty. The staff were very attentive and made our boozy afternoon a very enjoyable one. Jo (one of the bar staff), made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend A+++

visited with my Mother who is disabled, staff went out of there way to welcome us and assist her with anything. I had a lovely fish pie which was delicious and also nice fresh vegetables. My Mother had the Home made Lasagna which she said was very tasty.Very friendly atmosphere and nicely decorated. i noticed there was a lovely garden area which would be very nice in the Summer.

We organised a get together for around 30 of us for a memorial for a good friend? Mike. The staff and venue was excellent. Food was served quickly and was great. Thank you Halfway House, it was especially good to have the area reserved as requested.

Just had the best roast dinner in a pub/restaurant ever. Lots of proper roast potatoes and delicious gravy, and so reasonably priced. The service was excellent too. Thank you 👏👍👌

Courtney Jo and Charlotte were very friendly and the service was great. Great conversation and friendly banter. Great tasting Guiness and I would highly recommend this pub and restaurant.

Went for a few drinks with a friend to catch up and got interrupted by a disrespectful person he was rude to Courtney, Joe, Charlotte (the barmaids) who all handled the guy so well if I was expecting them to have a go but they didn’t and they calmed the situation down.

Visited the restaurant, lunch time today to meet a friend for a catch-up. Although it was busy with Christmas Lunch group bookings, they made us feel welcome and accommodated us. Cottage pie was excellent and the staff were friendly and courteous, particularly Dianne. Thank you.

We had lunch here today and our group is quite varied in what they had I had the lentil wellington as I am vegan it was amazing one of the best meals I have ever had at a pub it was so tasty and loads of it I was full. I visited last Saturday with friends from Southend on the way back from France, our visit for food and some drinks was sadly spoilt when I read the receipt this morning to find out that we were over-charged for some drinks that we did not have during our visit. Overcharged by over £10 was very poor after enjoying lovely meals and good drinks. Hard lesson to learn read the bill before paying!!!! Malcolm from Manchester

Luckily this place was next door with good selection of beers and nice food menu the staff were pleasant especially Jo and Alison who had your next pint ready and waiting without even ordering it 👍

The walking group returned as planned at lunch time and we all seated together on a refractory table , Our choices of menu's previously ordered on the start of the walk were soon promptly served . Every one was pleased with their choices of menu, and the service that we experience . I have used the Halfway House on many occasions and have never been disappointed.

What a lovely place. From the beautiful ceremony, drinks and photos in the pretty garden, the food, the space to party, lovely clean and modern toilets and bar. This is such a little gem of a wedding venue. The team (4th oct) were so friendly and really set the tone for a great day. From remembering our names and likes/dislikes, accommodating requests to recommending drinks they really went above and beyond. Kaz's gin cocktails were so good! And all made from a chat about what flavours we liked, she got it spot on!!

Very noisy. Had to go to bar to order food and drinks and request bill (which they had already signed off as paid!). Starter half the size of the same starter I had there a month before. My friends main course was not cooked properly and she ended up being sick all night. Mine was overcooked.

Visit the Halfway House every time I stay at the Travelodge for business. Food is good, well presented and priced accordingly. Staff are always friendly and great with a smile. Barmaid is little pushy but she's fit (so it's ok lol 😂)

As a group of diners that visit here weekly I think it is safe to say that we have tried the whole menu now! Always excellent food, without exception. The staff are very friendly and deliver a professional but always fun and light hearted service. Highly recommended.

The lady was friendly and the service was spot on to he fair. The food though wasn't good at all with frozen chips and most seemed microwaved. Lots of grease on my plate for the ham and eggs too.

We haven’t been to this pub/restaurant for years. The restaurant is separated from the pub with its own bar. Went as a party of 10 and not one of us had any complaints with the food, the service or surroundings. Kudos to the chef - all food was excellent and arrived hot. Me and my brother in law had the lamb with potato rosti and sweet potato which was delicious. My mother in law and sister had the Sunday roast (Pork/Turkey and all trimmings) my husband enjoyed home made pie, chips and gravy whilst the kids had burgers, ribs & wings combo and Caesar salad. Starters and pudding were also spot on - the apple crumble had an oat topping which was delicious. Staff were really friendly, chilled atmosphere, can imagine the garden would be nice to sit in the summer. We will definitely go back again.

I have been going to the halfway house for years now, food has always been good but service from time to time has lacked. There used to be an older man that seemed to be the manager who seemed to focus on his regulars and forget about the rest. T

Been visiting the HWH now for over 20 years, love the car meets especially and the bar staff have always been great! However!!! Friday 31st May was simply shocking! I stood at the bar for 10 minutes (note there were no other people being served), I was ignored by 2 staff and the 3rd jut continued her jolly with the drunkards at the end of the bar. When I was finally acknowledged I asked for a coffee and was told the machine had just been cleaned (8:55pm), I asked for a tea instead and was told they can’t do that either, add to that that the restaurant was already closed (albeit only 5 mins early) and it pretty much stopped me from having anything there, so off I went. You can wave goodbye to this customer of 20 years! There’s plenty better places that deserve my custom

Popped in for a sandwich ended up with fish and chips and dessert absolutely delicious. Would certainly recommend this place and we will be back very soon.

I popped in to the Halfway House for Sunday lunch last week with a couple of friends. We hadn't been there before but had a recommendation. What a hidden gem! There was such a warm welcome when we arrived and the staff were so friendly from start to finish. We all had delicious meals, and will definitely be returning soon!

I had my wedding a couple of months ago in the Grand Marquee at the Halfway House. Before the day I had had a few minor family stresses and was really feeling anxious for how the day would come off. But I must say I really felt like I was in safe hands. I just want to say a massive thank you to the management team, particularly for putting up with me so well when I know what I can be like! Everything ran smoothly and the food was delicious. Thankfully the staff really took care of everything, which meant I could just enjoy my big day stress free! 2 couples, we all went for the burgers. Meals served in good time, food excellent. Chips piping hot! The Mother burger with bacon was lovely and lean. Baps soft and fresh. Chicken crispy. All great and friendly staff, esp Nicky!

My fiancé and I recently chose this venue for our engagement party and could not be any happier with the outcome!! The staff were an absolute delight and willing to do whatever they could to make sure we had a night we would never forget. Initially I wasn’t sure I wanted to have a party due to the stress of organising it all, but it was almost seamless and everything was communicated to us.

Our first time here and would just like to say that we will definitely be returning the food here is first class the service was first class and the staff very friendly and accommodating the home made steak pie is a must

Needing to have lunch early due to various sporting events, we booked into the Halfway House. It had been many years since we had visited, but various friends had visited recently so we gave it a go.

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime for my Mum's birthday. Our meal was very good and the waitresses were fabulous, so lovely and helpful and made us feel really welcome.

Delicious food, clean tables, nice seating, only downside waited ages to pay as they are always busy but seem understaffed.

I stayed in the Travelodge in easy walking of this pub with an open mind as I didn’t want to drive again.

We were really pleased to have chosen the Halfway House for our staff Christmas Party, as overall the food & service exceeded expectations. The bar staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We have already booked for our Staff Christmas Party for 2019.

We just recently has a christening for my daughter in a church nearby the half way house. We asked the halfway house if they could do us a buffet for ten people in a section of the pub as we didn't really want to hire a venue. They gave us a a seated section next to the bar and the buffet that came out was massive we actually took some home despite having over 20 people there! The food was really delicious and the bar staff served the party quicky.

I went with family to the Half Way house for a lunchtime meal. The food, as usual, was delicious. I had the beef pie but I have to say a couple of people had the Cottage Pie which apparently was lovely. We had deserts, and I had the apple crumble which was first class. The staff are always fantastic, and Sue is just wonderful. We have always had a very warm welcome from this pub, I love it!

Visited The Halfway House earlier this week. We arrived there just before lunch and having ordered first in our group, I was one of the last to receive my main meal when my colleagues were either finished with their mains or close to.

Located in the middle of the A127 this pub looks simply like a quick stop off however there is much more to this, food is very nice and the prices are very reasonable I would recommend going for an evening meal here.

We went here for a family birthday. My sister phoned and pre booked as there was 13 of us. When we arrived there weren’t enough spaces for us so the had to add an extra table, overlapping a doorway which just happens to double as a fire exit. Not to mention that the whole afternoon I was getting nudged in the back as people came and went through that door. First impressions go a long way with all of us! The drinks order took 25 minutes, then we waited a further 15 minutes to even order our dinner. Another 40 minutes and we got some food. I have to be honest though, the steak and Ale pie was amazing! All our guest enjoyed their meals. The waitress that served us was patient with the 3 year old who was having a hard time deciding what to order, and she brought plates to serve our mums birthday cake on. The only let down was the waiting, otherwise a lovely place and staff, with nice food. It’s fine if you’ve got plenty of time to spare.

I booked this venue in April for my engagement party on 25th August 2018.

Was very disappointed with the staff at our special do on 11th august, we booked in January, the person we dealt with , left, and we didn't hear anything until I rang the staff at the end of July to confirm , was told another person had taken over, she didn't seem to have a clue, the final money was paid at that time, on the day, no one seemed to have a clue what was going, the bar staff were not aware of any event in the herongate suite that night. Thank god I had my friends and family to help out, no staff to cut my cake .no air con working, have complained twice, but no one has given me any explanation. I would not recommend the herongate suite,

After several attempts for a last minute booking for 8 of us for 6pm, we ended up at The Halfway House. It was quite empty and we wondered if we’d done the right thing!

Met a friend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The meal and service was excellent. Food looked good, was delicious and reasonably priced. The outside area is well looked after and everywhere was clean and tidy. Would recommend.
