Nice pub, good vibe with people and service, but extortionate prices for a pint. That’s the reason why only giving 4 stars

Lovely pub, great food, will return.

A really nice old pub serves nice food and has a great bar area to share z drink with friends. Also live bands on some days.

Food great . Wanted an alcohol free cider which unfortunately they didn't do but hasn't put us off from returning

Lovely Sunday lunch in a nice friendly atmosphere. Try the steak and the kidney pudding. Quality.

Nice traditional village pub with locals. Good selection of drinks and a nice atmosphere with the real log fires going. We didn't eat so I cannot comment on the food.

Had a lovely Sunday roast here with my daughter.

Quick visit to Ingatestone so we did not stay long but the waitress was friendly and we had our drinks!

Historical pub with a very old ceiling. Nice furniture and the people in the pub are friendly. Ingatestone is an old village, not far from Brentwood.

Lovely pub in a lovely village. Had a salmon steak which was beautiful but they don't provide a suitable sauce to go with their fish dishes. I was offered gravy which let's be honest......err no. And the little tub of bread sauce didn't cut the mustard either. So come on guys, hollandaise or a white fish sauce please, it isn't difficult 😉

We spent a nice evening in the Bell, we had a lot to chat about so being in a quieter pub suited us, its a no frills locals pub so comfy and relaxing, perfect for a social evening out.

Best burger ever. Great service, very attentive without being overbearing, just simply friendly. Will be back.

Pool table, large beer garden, dogs allowed indoors, live music, cosy vibe, and it's obviously a very old building which adds to the atmosphere. What more would you want from a local.

Fantastic old pub, unspoilt interior for beer drinkers, and a great home-cooked menu (fabulous lamb shank). Large outdoor drinking area, and small play garden for the kids. Opens from 12pm, and the staff are really friendly and switched on - can't recommend highly enough.

After a disaster at the cricketers restaurant we stopped at the bell pub. Service very friendly, and Sunday roast excellent, although veg slightly under cooked.

Went for a walk from billericay to ingatestone through the fields. So happy to see the Bell is a traditional pub with an excellent beer garden, super beer and really tasty grub. My family joined me and we had a lovely time.

Received a warm welcome and ordered our food and drink. The food came out fairly quickly and was well presented and very tasty. We were looked after in comfortable surroundings and had an enjoyable experience dining here.

A traditional local, where you are made to feel very welcome by staff and customers. A good range of beer on keg and pump. Closes quite early, 10 pm-ish, so don't be late. 5 star hygiene rated.

Really enjoyed our lunch. Definitely recommend to others to come. Food is home made and cooked to professional standards. Thank you to chiefs and staff 😉

A friendly traditional pub serving a brilliant Sunday roast 😋

The lovely olde worlde decor, friendly staff and good food made this a real pleasure. Only problem was that somehow our booking for 12 people hadn't been recorded despite our walk leader's best efforts. Meant that the otherwise delicious food took a while to arrive (possibly another person would have been called in if our booking was known). We were up against it with a dull day and a 6.5-mile walk afterwards, having to do the last part in the dark. Still - we made it with leader and rearguard in high-vis jackets, 1 wind-up torch and torches on 3 phones! A good day with a good start at this lovely pub.

Lovely friendly staff. Chat to us as old friends. Lovely atmosphere. Food great and we didn't wait long. Nothing to much trouble for the staff.

Nice pub if a bit expensive . But as they don't charge for the live bands then I suppose it's ok. Can I suggest that to save queuing at the bars you sell tokens and exchange them for drinks.

I can’t actually put into words how much we love it here! Given that we’ve lived in the area for so long I don’t know why it’s taken so long for us to start eating here but since we have it’s become a firm favourite. The food is soooooo good - as in proper home cooked good! We had the roast and the roast ciabatta today and honestly it’s delicious. And because we go so often now I can confirm it’s always delicious! But what makes it for us is how child friendly everyone is - they make us so welcome and comfortable and nothing is too much trouble (an extra kids bowl or even an extra Yorkshire for my 1 year old!). We’ve been to so many pubs in the area and I can honestly say they don’t compare for a proper pub lunch and welcome!

Excellent. Genuine old fashioned pub with real log fire, good range of ale, friendly helpful staff serving a great range of proper English grub. There is also what a I call the everyday, everyone menu but Specials Board a trip down memory lane. Simply gorgeous.

Excellent family run pub. Was in with the brood for a Sunday lunch; and they delivered exactly that. Good sized portions, good price, service with a smile, and arrived in good time. Have visited before this occasion and will certainly be back.

Exposé were brilliant. Shame it took 20 mins to get served yet other people were just coming in and getting served before us

Came here last year for the music festival and it was so good we came back this year too. Had an absolute blast. Great music from Expose and a great pub, love it.

The bell is our local pub and we love it. Drinks are great value, the live bands they occasional have in are always fantastic and the outdoor events always draw in a big crowd. The pubs decor seems to have never changed and that what's make it so appealing to me, still stuck in a generation that has far gone in many others venues. It has character that is hard to find these days.

WOW!!! Just WOW! Love this pub! Amazing staff and food! I feel you can tell a lot about a boozer by the shape of its toilets! And what can I say! I was not disappointed. The toilets were so clean I decided to have my BLT sandwich in the toilets. Highly recommended, will come again

Nice old style pub with good beer, an open fire, and sometimes live music. Great carol night with a live band leading up to Xmas when the place gets VERY crowded with a happy crowd all singing along. Great atmosphere.

Had an hour to kill before my train home so popped in here for a couple of pints and was glad I did, log fire, great beer and a warm welcome, proper old fashioned pub, staff were friendly and the menu looked good, if I was local I'd call in often

A pleasant village drinking spot. Friendly proprietor, decent ales and a cozy atmosphere.

It's a great little pub, great beer selection and lunch food. The roast is something to behold. The garden is big enough for kids to run around in, with some nice flowers and a selection of play equipment.

Came in with friends looking for a Sunday roast. What I got was presented in an appalling way with washed out veg and sorry looking meat!? Gravy was like water - all very tasteless! We sent it back and got a very bad return of abuse. Needless to say, we left and went up the road for a delightful Sunday Roast at their competitors! Will never eat in the Bell - AVOID!

Went here for fireworks night (which is free) lovely food and lovely people. Fantastic pub in the summer months to one to look out for.

If your usual fast food pick up is the normal ones like mackers and Burger King then give Taco Bell a try. I don't eat anything else now if its fast food.

Decent selection of beers, also reasonably flexible with their lunch options. Was a decent place to relax to avoid the rain and have lunch.

Recently, I read a review about this wonderful pub that was just awful. I'd like to say that I was there on the same evening, I am not a regular to this pub nor do I live in the village. I have friends that do and on this particular evening we had burns night there, a very lovely 3 course meal complete with piper and whiskey for the drinkers(I don't drink) We had a fabulous night, that unfortunately was almost ruined by a VILE, drunken female with red lipstick smeared across her face, drinking what looked like neat whiskey. She was extremely rude to the landlord demanding another drink after hours and upon being refused, she DEMANDED that the landlord ring her a cab 'it's the least you can f***ing do' I believe we're her words. She hadn't been in the bell all night, she had stumbled in with a male companion, just making last orders. The landlord actually didn't retort with any kind of rude language, I feel I would have done had I been in his shoes! She was loud, rude, very aggressive and unfortunately had the whole pubs attention, all of us aghast at how she was behaving. Quite frankly, it was embarrassing to watch. The landlord phoned her a cab, as demanded,(the phone call I actually witnessed) and when a 'regular' did question her behaviour, she spouted back something disgusting, along the lines of 'low-life scum' I believe. Outrageous behaviour!! Her male companion was extremely embarrassed and very quickly apologised to the landlord (who was keeping the peace to his best efforts) shaking his hand more than once before ushering her out, apologising again as they left. Notably, leaving before the cab arrived, so therefore wasting the drivers time too. I will defiantly go back to the bell, in fact we're planning on doing so next month. Our food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The atmosphere was really friendly, and the landlord was a saint in dealing with the unfortunate events of the evening. The staff were all very helpful, me and my friends all had a lovely time! The review written by this awful woman is completely unjust, and unfair. I suspect she wrote it on her journey home, drunk, with the poor bloke that had to accompany her (you have my sincere sympathies) she probably doesn't even remember writing it. If by chance she does remember, and reads this review, I would like to point out to you that unfair reviews like yours can be very damaging to small businesses, so I hope that I have put the record straight for anyone thinking of visiting this wonderful pub in the beautiful village of Ingatestone. Thank you to the bell for such an enjoyable evening! And again to this woman, if I were you, I'd seriously think about knocking the drink on the head love! It obviously brings out a very ugly side of you.

We visited this vile pub 23/01/14 we asked for a taxi to be called & basically told to walk down the road & order ourselves, it was late & no signal & did not know taxi number, this was by the manager then the locals who blatently don't like outsiders in there pub, never have we been so treated with such disrespect anywhere, i work with public in Billericay & will be telling all my clients about this, if I were to treat my clients like they done, I wouldn't have any. Disgusting!
