The Half Moon in County Durham

Meal was fine, was asked if we needed anything sauces so asked for gravy to go with the beef sandwich and chips. As leaving was told we owed for the gravy boat £1, which you would have thought it would be standard with the beef. Disappointed

Only went for a drink at the Half moon but I will be sampling the food this week.

Half Moon now has the 8oz gourmet burger on the specials board, really good value Quality food, very tender and tasty hot roast beef sandwich , very nice quiche too, presentation excellent, 5 stars for everything 6oz burgers with bacon tonight, perfectly cooked and very good value👍

Been here lots of times.never had a bad experience always made welcome staff is great food is amazing lots of choice.its our goto bub for bar and restaurant.we went here for our first anniversary and that was 32 years ago and we still going regulare it's always been great thank God it's still going.well done for keeping it alive.you know what they say (if it's not broke don't fix it).

Came here for a working lunch with two colleagues. Extensive choice on menu of both hot and cold dishes which allowed for a wide price range. My colleagues both chose the braised steak panini which was served in an open style with a side salad. They both raved about this dish and my husband would love it! I went for the smaller option of a freshly cut roast beef sandwich with salad. The beef was top quality and suited my calorie allowance just fine. Lovely place, nice staff and good service. Sat outside afterwards, finishing my drink while waiting for a lift. All round great spot, do try it.

Great food,portions ok very clean

I met up with 2 friends today having decided to meet at the Half Moon. A lovely greeting from a couple behind the bar. We were offered a menu and adviced about the special board. 2 of us had salad, the other the meat and dumplings. She had the regular plate and really tried hard to finish but it was huge! Our salads? Huge isn't big enough to describe it! So much on the plates, everything fresh and crisp. 3 large slices of roast beef for myself and my friend had scampi. I can't wait to go again!

Working through here for a few wks and was recommended this place.. I had a 16oz gamon steak with egg n pineapple wid side salad n chips ... my my work mate had steak and the works .. absolute delicious 👌 cooked to perfection. I can not fault in the slightest.. excellent food .. great service and good atmosphere 👌 highly recommended

Never be going again The staff were rude and did not take our orders properly so when we sent back chips and it was replaced with the mashed potato I ordered. I was charge for both. So beware what you order. And as for the staff what an ignoramos. Very rude .

Horrible atmosphere and rude miserable staff. Looked down on because I ordered a sauce that didn't go with the meat then also because I asked for a small portion , told I was not allowed so wasted most of it. Over priced Sunday dinner for what it was. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Will not be returning.

By far the best best braised steak I've ever had. The sandwich is beautiful with a lovely side salad to match.

A little disappointed tonight not standard we used to here a while since we ate here sadly nothing changed had lunch wife ordered fish and chips fish very thin definitely frozen not fresh chips fine I had what was advertised as gourmet burger no way all it was a burger in a bun with melted cheese no salad or anything else really disappointing will not be hurrying back

Not sure about some of the vegetables, looks like out of the tin or prepackrd frozen.

On arrival I apparently used the wrong entrance for dogs and was informed by a bartender to next time use the side door. This same tender I did not find to be one of the friendliest and felt as though he spent the next few minutes staring at us. However this aside the food was not great. My daughter had chicken tikka masala where the chicken was almost blended ( no chunks) And was similar to a microwave dish. The other two meals were ok ( hot beef buns ) However my roast lamb dinner was not good, very much school dinner like. The lamb was not roast lamb , it was like processed plastic lamb slices. When I said at the end the lamb was like plastic a ladies response was , “ I had it yesterday it was lovely , Really, I can’t agree 1%. Used to go a few years ago before, been about 5 times, sorry struck off our bar meal list for good !!!

Nice little pub tucked away off the main street in Easington. Very friendly place with some quiet rock/pop music playing in the background. Food was home cooked and absolutely excellent. One.of the best hot beef sandwiches with home cooked chips I've had, melt in the mouth thinly slices beef and awesome home cooked chips, a little garnish of really nice creamy coleslaw. Tow cask ales available in Doom Bar and Old Speckled Hen which is nice to see and something of a rarity in places with decent food these days. Two meals plus two pints came in at about £28.50 which is excellent value for good home cooked food. I would wholeheartedly recommend eating here if you are in the area.

This is about the forth or fifth time we have been here and every time we have been the food has been fantastic, the deserts really nice with very friendly staff.

Lovely food, we had a roast dinner, mixed grill, steak and lasagne and it was amazing.

Food was ok. Staff the other hand well left a lot to be desired!!. The girl who took our order was helpful ... but had to ask for desert menu as our mains were cleared away but after about 25/30 had to go to bar and ask for desert menu and was given a blackboard with them on..after asking the gentleman (I use the word losely) for our order but he then went back to the bar area and heard him say to the other barmaid for a 'pad' they (meaning us) want deserts.. he was quite rude... we then got our order wich was ok nothing special.. and to top it off Dawn got 2. Yes 2 blonde hairs in her desert!!! . Needless to say we won't be back anytime soon..... definitely not 4 and 1/2 stars ... ......

Disappointing Experience at The Half Moon!!!! I recently visited The Half Moon Pub/Restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Upon arrival, I was greeted by an arrogant man behind the bar, rather than offering a warm welcome or a ‘how are you’, he made me feel very uninvited. The atmosphere throughout the establishment was unwelcoming, (however the lass who served us was pleasant), with both the staff and the dated decor contributing to this feeling.Despite the anticipation of a pleasant dining experience, the reality fell short. To make matters worse, A friend discovered hairs in her ice cream, which was utterly off-putting. While the food was passable, dessert was (tinned peaches and squirty cream) it certainly did not warrant the 4.5-star rating boasted by the establishment. In my opinion, a more accurate rating would be closer to 2 stars.Overall, my visit to The Half Moon Pub/Restaurant left much to be desired, and I have no intention of returning anytime soon. I hope that management takes this feedback seriously and considers making improvements to create a more welcoming environment for patrons.

It's been a few years since I was in but the food and service was as good as it was then, hot very tasty and eventhough it as Christmas eve we didn't have to wait long the staff were lovely and I liked the way the bar and toilets had been done - modern

Used to be ok but the food is ok at best. And the welcome and customer service is very poor. The half moon survives by its reputation from the past

Can't fault the food or bar staff but the attitude from one of the staff in the restaurant was far from professional. Several people wanted dessert from our table and was told someone would be back to take our dessert order to then have some one come take our cutlery away and when asked about ordering desserts was told rather abruptly the kitchen was closing.

Food was fresh and plentiful, maybe's a bit too much 😉 staff really friendly, helpful and very welcoming.

I found this establishment just passed the green, so quite easy to find. I was recommended The Half Moon by staff members from Club 3000 Peterlee, I found it to be pleasant,clean, I was asked to find myself a table and I immediately noticed one particular table and chair, situated on the right hand side (looking from the bar) that one chair is placed up against the partition and the other is back to back with another chair from another table, there was no possible way to be seated here, I only mention this because if this place got so busy and that was the only table left I feel that a wait would ensure before eating your lunch/Dinner. There is through area of seating to the left of the bar, where you can watch TV, the day we were here on Saturday and they had sport showing, I also noted that the Half Moon appears to be a locals bar, as they congregated in the bar area. Your food order is easy all you do is order at the bar and I found the gentleman to be polite and quick to serve me with drinks and then my meal. I have to add I feel that 15.00 for a mixed grill is on the expensive side, and I found other menu items to be equally priced, even so! I found the food to be excellent and without complaint, I would re-visit The Half Moon again

It's clean and nice the staff are wonderful. The food sucks, the steak was asked for medium and came blue with no sear and no salt or pepper, so not a good taste. Chips are oil bombs, and the portions are tiny. The cheeseburger made my son feel ill as it was underdone like the steak. However, the beef and cheese melt sandwich went down a treat, apparently, still looked like a small portion to me. So it was a shop bought hotdog bun long with chips to match like a kids portion in my eyes. I will not be going back.

I have many a meal at the half moon, and kept returning as the food was lovely. However I also find that good customer service is vital to the experience. The last few times we have been we have found that the bar staff are not very friendly. So much is the case that one of my daughters ended up crying as she was made to feel very uncomfortable when placing her order and no longer wanted to stay. Needless to say we all asked for refund (as we had only just placed our orders). The manager obligingly refunded us, but informed us that the bar person in question had just had some bad news. He said he would have a word with her, I must state that an apology from our server at this stage would have sufficed, as at this point we were all made to feel uncomfortable.

Staff seemed disinterested in serving. Didn't offer to bring menus over. Ordered the "Gourmet" burger but when it arrived it was just a frozen beef pattie that didn't taste great. Chips were nice, so it's a shame they couldn't make the burger themselves. Feel it was overpriced for the quality you got.

I've been going for years, normally really nice, but on our last visit, food wasn't up to scratch, especially the chips, They were black.

My mum didn't like desert I went in to kitchen to swop. As they had a spare dessert. They said don't normally do it but ok as they had a spare. Then staff member came out in front of table of 14 to complain an extra dessert had been ordered which we agreed to pay for..could have been handled more discreetly and pleasantly ..upset some guests.

Fabulous experience. We came across The Half Moon by accident whilst visiting Seaham. But it was so good, we came back the next night. Lovely pub, great atmosphere and the food was excellent. Great value but no compromise on the quality. Lovely service too. Well done, we'll be back!

We we’re passing Easington for work and decided to call in here. Sunday lunch was great but I had the red velvet cheesecake for dessert, it was one of, if not the best cheesecakes I’ve ever tasted in my life. We will be back with the family. Well worth the 45-50 minute drive!

Food and service first class as always

First visit here after a friend recommended it to me. There is disabled parking and a disabled access which was good. Food was lovely and the portion sizes were very generous. A little pricey for pub grub but tastes good. Could do with a bigger selection of 0% alcohol beer as not everyone drinks but not much of a complaint really
