Fantastic Sunday lunch enjoyed here, at a very reasonable price, absolutely delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Went here with my partner on Sunday for Sunday lunch. I have got to say the food is absolutely out of this world , friendly smart dressed staff , nice and warm with a real fire, lovely peaceful atmosphere. Our Sunday lunch was just like what your gran use to make a proper warm hearted wholesome winter feel to it , all fresh vegetables and the beef was literally melting in your mouth . I would highly recommend eating here . Our new place to go for our Sunday lunch . Outstanding ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful Sunday Lunch. Service was second to none. Our waitress Hannah gave us service with a smile as always. David and his team are working so hard over the festive season and their work hasn’t faulted one bit. Hats off to them.

A dog friendly pub in the quiet village of Witton Gilbert. It's normally quite busy, with some people coming for a drink and others food. It's good value for money, especially on the theme nights (Italian Monday, Pizza/Burger Wednesday) and the menu is varied. Good food in a pleasant atmosphere. This time we opted for the Christmas fayre which was delicious.

We attended last week for Sunday lunch food was really good but extremely slow service took over half an hour for drinks. We thought we would try takeaway Sunday lunch today. I turned up and dinners brought out for collection pretty quickly but unfortunately got them home and no Yorkshire puddings! missing! It’s the best bit! I did call and say this had happened they offered for me to go back but I wasn’t able to so we had to make our own. Really they should be putting mistakes right and dropping them off as they do deliver. Just got a sorry. Attention to details is vastly lacking but the food is very good. I will go back but disappointed

Had a Christmas lunch here yesterday with a very large party from a local charity. Some of our party are wheelchair users and have various disabilities. I can not fault the beautiful food, atmosphere and the attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble and our service users and their loved ones had a great time. A very big thank you to everyone at the Travellers Rest.

The Travellers Rest Hosted our Christmas lunch for over 60 people with a diverse range of needs. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, food was delicious, hot, vegetables were fresh, gravy plentiful and a great price . Can’t recommend enough.

When we went last week there was no heating on no fire on either it was freezing to be fair don't think we tasted our food we ate it so quick it was supposed to be a nice relaxing treat out turned out to be anything but.

The most gorgeous Sunday lunch ever. Such tasty beef, recommend highly!

Went for Sunday Lunch and it was amazing!! Food was unreal with good sized portions! Beef was tender and the pork was unbelievably Juicy! 10/10 would recommend!

Fab service, Siobhan is lovley and always keeps up with asking for drinks ect… Food is unreal and 100% worth the money!

I went for Sunday dinner with my husband & daughter. We were seated immediately & our drinks order taken. There was a variety of meats to choose from & I chose gammon. It was served with roast potatoes & parsnip, Yorkshire pudding & mash. The vegetables were brought to the table for us to share & I have to say it was the most variety of veg I've had. I was very impressed. Lovely dinner, attentive staff & reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Sunday lunch was lovely. Plenty of assorted vegetables along with extra gravy brought out. I had chicken which was cooked perfectly accompanied with Large Yorkshire pudding , roast potatoes, mashed potato, parsnip ,stuffing and gravy. Would definitely recommend Sunday lunch. I did have to ask for spoons as they weren’t brought with vegetables. should be there as standard and unnecessary numbers of waiting staff at table whilst eating we were asked 8 times if everything was ok with our food by various staff members. Once would have been sufficient!

We love our visits to the travellers rest , siobhon goes above and beyond and gives us fantastic service. And the food is always great we be back again. Paul & tracey.

Sunday lunch was lovely, quite busy but nice meal.

Had a fantastic experience here for Sunday roast. Nice atmosphere, fast, friendly and attentive service even though they were busy. The food was delicious, lots of choice of roast meats and generous portions. Will definitely return on future trips to the area and would happily recommend to others.

Great venue, friendly and relaxed. Delicious food for all the family, including helpful with dairy free requirements for mains and dessert. Makes such a difference when going out, thank you. Highly recommend rump steak, chicken curry and mince with dumplings. We're on holiday and wish we'd discovered you sooner!

Highly recommended. Food was lovely with home made chips. What was most impressive was Hannah, our server/ barmaid, who was not only working solo but seeing to everybody's needs promptly and with a great friendly attitude. Thanks Hannah if you read this.

Servers were friendly and attentive despite being very busy. Each of our sunday dinners were lovely.

Great food, friendly and inviting staff, they interacted with our 1 year old and gave her toys,books to play with. A warm and welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be returning.

Second time i have been here and the food is absolutely stunning!! Hannah served us and she was amazing from start to finish amazing customer service! Such a hidden gem!

Our first visit today for Sunday dinner was wonderful the staff were attentive and the environment & not too loud was wonderful, special shout-out to Hannah for the wonderful prompt service, the food was spectacular, high quality and generous portions, we will about be back again soon! Also to this day we have NEVER had the the server turn up with the receipt and card machine at the same time .. its an absolute gripe of mine everywhere we go but these guys have it sorted, like a breath of fresh air!!

We often come to the quiz on a Tues which is entertaining! Managed to win a £25 voucher so Fri saw us here for a meal. They have lots of different theme nights eg Italian night where u get 3 courses for £9.99 (I think ) we decided to just have main and were pleased we did as portions are huge. Lovely lasagne with salad and garlic bread but couldn't manage bread. Daz had pie with chips andveg and also couldn't finish but said it was good. They do 0 % Guinness as he was driving and I had g & t so we had to pay about £11 for bill. Big place with outdoor seating, decent size car park and lovely friendly staff

After a long day of travel and finally arriving at our Booking.com accommodation (without heat!), my daughter and I walked in the drizzle to the local pub. Even seated next to the fire :) Perfect! It happened to be the grill night special (on a Thursday). How lucky for us! 2 drinks, 2 appetizers and 2 steaks £38! Our waiter suggested the pepper steak sauce and we were not disappointed (thanks, David!). The food, service and atmosphere were just what we’d hoped for. Over all a very enjoyable, delicious night!

Good food but real ales are unreliable. We sometimes stop here after bike rides for fish and chips and the service is pretty good, especially good yesterday when we gave our feedback to Hannah about beer availability on a Friday and she did everything she could to keep us happy.

Popped in for lunch on Thursday 19th. Greeted by a friendly staff member called David. Food was delicious ,well presented and a good price, would definitely recommend.

I had sirloin steak ….. absolutely tasteless, could have been anything! On the plus side the chips were excellent but £22 for excellent chips? In all fairness the rest of the family enjoyed their non steak meals , so it seems don’t have the steak!!

I was there on this bank holiday Sunday at 16:30.I know this was towards the end of the day but was disappointed that they ran out of cauliflower cheese 😢

We stayed in the village over the bank holiday visiting Durham and the area. We booked in for our tea on Saturday and booked for the Sunday lunch. Food is tasty and decently priced. The waitress was lovely and took the time to chat. Play park outside was fab. Thoroughly recommend 😃

Just been for bottomless brunch today. Unbelievable value for money. Food was great and cocktails so good. 5 people went and we ordered 7 pizzas and 3 fries. That was soooo much food. Will definitely go back. Staff so friendly and attentive 😊😊😊.

Never been here before it's probably a nice place but they seem to make random calls to people to hear them answer and wait a few seconds then hang up, an "oh sorry we seem to have dialed an incorrect number" would be nice.

We had a lovely family here on Sunday 11th August. The food was amazing, our server was lovely and attentive and we love coming back here :) thank you for a lovely afternoon!

Lovely meal, plenty of it and piping hot. Desserts were excellent. Staff friendly and welcoming.

A more recent review. Again a fab lunch. Great portions and friendly staff. Reasonable price. Old review....Came here on a Saturday night for an evening meal. Went for a nice low fat fish and veg option. It was very tasty and fresh. Someone else got the pie and featherblade beef, both said their meals were lovely. Good portion sizes, not too much and not too little. A bit pricey for food though, but everywhere is like that now. The service was good, nice pleasant staff. We didn't wait too long for food either. Overall pleased and would go again.

Not what I was hoping after seeing an amazing review from kyle versus food. I had high hopes of this place. Only to ba dashed by slow service, dry food, and cheap tomato ketchup. Bread on black pudding stack unnecessary. There are too many potato skins, which caused the bottom layer to "steam." The fish was like sawdust and inedible. Normal table knife inadequate for the gammon steak. On complaining, I was offered a free desert which indeclined and offered to pay 50% of my main course. I was offered 10% off the total bill. All in all a disappointing recommendation.

Just been here with the daughter for the first time and must say best sunday dinner by far for a long time, food amazing, staff friendly and very attentive, food came out really quick, fresh and beautiful, will definitely be returning to try the normal food.

Can’t complain about the food… it was delicious… However, despite pre booking and ordering our meals weeks ago; we waited 1hr 50mins to have our food served. Absolutely shocking!!!

Went for a meal at The Travellers’ Rest in Witton Gilbert with friends as one of them was leaving the area for a new job. I had the quorn mince and dumplings with mushrooms….. delish!!!! We’ve planned to go back regularly as everyone loved what they had . Cheers to Scott and Sian and all the staff. Great job! Xx

We looking for an overnight motorhome stop as we were traveling north. We parked up and stayed over night the cost of the park up only being to use the pub. The food came out very quickly and was first rate, a good amount, very tasty and very well presented. The staff and manager were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend

Just had a cracking stopover in our campervan with friends, lovely welcome and service from lovely staff, rang ahead to ask if they had space for two campervans for the night, and to book a table for food and drinks in the evening, well what can I say we got there really early so ended up going straight in for lunch too, well that was us hooked at that point the food is amazing and large portions stayed all day and night then went back in for Sunday lunch the food was that good before we headed home.can't recommend this gem enough well worth a visit and we'll most definitely be back huge thank you from ken and Jill and Alfie the dog 👍

Great spot for a family Sunday lunch - traditional roast was delicious, with vegetarian vegan options, and a good kids’ menu. We’ll be back. There is a lot of outdoor space, but it didn’t look geared up for customers (yet?) - hopefully that’s in the future plans. The service was great - really friendly without being too much. And it’s dog friendly!!

Everything was awesome. We didn't realize it was their steak evening, but we were able to get a vegetarian option on their standard menu.

Just had lunch, party of 7 for a birthday. Hannah was absolutely brilliant, had our table ready for us with only an hours notice. Attentive with drinks and food orders. One meal wasn't what my son expected it was changed without any fuss at all. The food was absolutely perfect as always. The atmosphere is always very relaxed at lunch time. Highly recommend.

Second visit as we’d enjoyed it so much the first time. Lovely food,Hannah did a great job steady trade considering it was a Monday lunchtime ,lots of places don’t even open on Monday these days.

Sunday dinner really good cannot fault any part of the afternoon from walking in to leaving the only reason for not 5 stars throughout is there is always room for improvement but this came close to it definitely be back and recommend to family and friends cracking meal and service a credit to all

Upon visiting the Travellers rest today (not for the first time) I found myseft utterly disappointed with the service after making a reservation earlier in the day for my family and family up from manchester (as we had told them how good food is ) we arrived promptly at 5pm as arrranged and upon being seated and drinks order taken it took over 15 mins to receive them this is when there was only about 12 customers in the pub. Food orders were then taken and the food was fine other than pigs in blankets having to be sent back to be cooked as they arrrived distinctly undercooked, extras requested multiple times were not given to the point I had to get up find staff while our food was geting cold and expess some urgency to the matter. Now after finishing our main course and waiting again for table to be cleared (bearing in mind no one had been to see if everthing was ok or if we needed any more drinks etc) I found myself having to go and find staff and didnt have to go far as I found the Manager(David I think) standing at the bar and after expressing my disgust was met with a blank vacant expression with no apologies, I returned to my table where someone came and cleared our plates and took desert orders which arrived and were fine. Now I belive in praise when due and have always expressed my satisfaction on previous visits but today I was disgusted with the lack of service when the pub was not busy and was offered anything in way to make up for this. And dont think this is about wanting a discount or free food I am more than happy to pay the bill but I’m affraid the management has gone severly downhill here Very disappointed Rob Askew

First visit, food was excellent, service good, atmosphere great. Friday was very busy but staff and kitchen coped well. Fish special was superb. So good we booked again for following night. Again, all was fine, not so busy, food top class. Thanks to all the staff, thoroughly recommend supporting this gem of a local pub.

This is a lovely place to go for a meal. We went at a quiet time and were given a warm welcome and treats for the dog. The food was lovely, tasty and well cooked and presented. The prices are fairly reasonable too. It's definitely a place I will be visiting again.

We found the Travellers Rest while walking our dog. Made very welcome, very dog friendly, so we have been back many times. There has been a number of changes to the decor and menu that have improved each visit. The staff are very helpful, there is a range of draught beers, very welcome, and some very nice wines. The food has been very tasty, always served hot. We have felt totally filled after each meal. A lovely place with lovely staff.

Food was delicious!! Really big portions, only problem was we didn't have space for desserts!! Great staff, great atmosphere, hope to come back again tomorrow on my travels

Went in for food, as recommended to us. We weren't disappointed, husband had the featherblade dish and I had the pie. So flavoursome and the meat more or less melted in our mouths. Excellent. Will definitely eat there again. Staff very friendly and efficient.

We celebrated my grandparents diamond wedding anniversary at Travellers Rest recently and it surpassed all our expectations. The cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and beautifully decorated room created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food and drinks were excellent, catering to all tastes. Highly recommended for anyone looking to host a special event in a relaxed setting!

Phoned and booked a meal asked if we could stay in our Motorhome in car park. Arrived and parked at btm of car park right in corner so as not to block other cars. Meal was Steak night ,2 starters & 2 steaks & 2 drinks for £35 a couple. Food was fantastic large portions & home made chips. Overnight was quiet & toilets where available when pub was open, definitely would use again a lovely little place.

Cramped, small and dry Sunday roast portion. Car park was too full so had to park elsewhere.

Amazing food, fantastic service and brilliant atmosphere.I strongly recommend the traveler's rest!! Myself and my 5 year old daughter went for a lovely meal on Friday night. The fish and chips were fantastic. There was colouring pencils and a colouring book for my daughter. The staff were child friendly. We really enjoyed our treat night.

Absolutley beautiful food! Friendly staff and cosy pub. We went for the first time about a month ago and been back 3 times since, its that good. Tonight we had the feather blade of beef with mash dumpling and honey carrots, and the lasagne with garlic bread and salad bothe were fantastic. They also have an italian night on a monday 3 courses for less than a tenner, and there not shabby portions either. Deffo recomend.

Lovely pub. Was here as a family group for Italian Night and was really pleased with the food. The 2x courses followed by dessert/coffee was superb value for money, good quality, very tasty. If I lived locally I would definitely do it again.

Had haddock as they didn't have cod it was quite nice but the batter was raw on the underside I hate this so left the batter not the best fish and chips I've ever had pity no cod though. They really need to cook the batter better. Thought the singer was poor

What can I say , we had a party on the Italian night with 28 attendees. The staff went the extra mile made us feel welcome and comfortable. We had pre booked the food and their wasn't a single glitch, every one of us got what we asked for . Every one of the guests has made comment on how good the night was .

We had a lovely family meal (17 of us) for my wife's birthday. Staff were superb and the food was great, highly recommended

On Wednesday we were part of a group of 18 to celebrate Gillie’s retirement. There was another large group in celebrating a 40th Birthday at the same time. Food was great, served in good time and great atmosphere, Dave the Manager, absolutely smashed it. Well done all the staff at the Travs.

Stop serving food at 6pm despite saying 7 on their website....they lost about£50 from us being turned away for food.bone idle and lazy!

Tremendous light lunch today. Very good quality, a beautiful tasty Hot beef sandwich with lush chips. Great hospitality for sure. I will Be back.
