The Grove Inn in Leeds

Lovely old pub, I've been going for years, sadly can only give a one star review for now as I've recently witnessed the new landlord speak to customers like dirt.

Lovely classic pub from the 1800's. Went to see a stand up event and had a great time.

Had a lovely night watching a family member do a gig at this venue but it was utterly ruined by the disgusting behaviour of the misogynist who runs the place. The pub has a special place in my heart as it brings back nostalgic memories from going as a kid but unfortunately I can’t step foot in it again until the current manager has nothing to do with the Grove. I was initially shocked at how he treated my sister when she tried to pay for a drink and it wouldn’t go through on her phone. He muttered something along the lines of “this is what happens when women pay for drinks” and I couldn’t really comprehend why he had said this out of the blue. What started off as a jokey interaction quickly turned sour when he said this as we were all left in a bit of shock as to how he behaved. In the 5 or so minutes following, a group of fairly young adults walked in and asked if they could still be served. Even though this was within the hours they were supposedly still serving, he told them “this wasn’t a f***ing night club” and called them a bunch of stupid freshers. This was unnecessarily aggressive and the group left swiftly and peacefully even though he had treated them so poorly. It would be interesting to see if he would have treated a group of all males the same as he seemed to pick out and bully women specifically for their gender. This was then followed by two women coming into the pub and asking if they were still serving. They said they lived down the road and were just looking for a drink on their way home. The manager proceeded to say “have you two just come from the lap dancing club” and continued to be misogynistic and down right disgusting to every woman and young person that came up to the bar. An individual like this doesn’t deserve a role of power and the way he treated all these people with a lack of humanity made me feel sick. To preface, this 1 star is purely for the manager and I mean no harm to the pub itself with this review. I hope it flourishes in the future, just without him in charge as no one should be spoken to the way he spoke to the customers today. The rest of the staff were lovely and I’m sorry they have to put up with him.

Genuinely a top pub, hidden away but well worth hunting out.

We used to go to this pub when I worked in Leeds 25 years ago. It hasn't changed a bit. The staff may have changed, but all still as friendly. Always good beer too.

Never disappointed, always a pleasure. Staff are great too.

Old pub of character with excellent barman. Well kept beer.

Welcomed by lovely friendly staff, when asked about the beers, the man behind the bar was very helpful. The beer was great and a lovely bottle of Prosecco as stated by my wife. Lovely old type pub, with lots of choice for Folk music, which Leeds has not enough venues anymore for this type of music. Go support them, you will find it is well worth it.

Ok, so, I was wandering past after a tiring and busy day, thinking 'nearly at hotel, but need the the loo'. Popped in here, and 6 hours later had had a brilliant dance, met 4 great women, had a glorious intergenerational flirt with a golden haired angel called Ben, heard the sharpest, well I don't know what... Rock funk?...on a good sound system by a great Californian band. All fuelled by a terrific lineup of beers, with a good quality/value pasty to help me cope with trying each beer. Huge, HUGE shout-out to Chandler on staff (this is spelt wrong, I'm sorry) and Simon who were solid, charming hosts. The building is beautifully preserved and unfannied around with (technical term) and super well managed. Now I know I got extra lucky with Darnell's band, but honestly, an unexpectedly brilliant place. I hope I get to live in Leeds. This place and night topped off my 3 days here. Please note, the price range I chose for this review reflects how much beer I drank: lots. It's not pricey at all IMHO

Great pub 10/10. Quality Guinness and good choice of other beers. Couldn't recommend it enough

Really traditional pub! Small bar with many side rooms and a spacious outdoor area. The place was buzzing when I called in - maybe due to just reopening. However, service was prompt, and if all the ales are as well kept as the local Porter I tasted (and there are plenty), I’m sure it will stay busy.

The team have done a great job refurbishing this historic place after a fire awhile ago. Gorgeous place with great customer service as always.

It was closed-closed, all shuttered up with protective, metal security grills on all the windows, no access at all. Boo n bahh.

Great place tucked away in a sea of concrete. As pubs should be. Always a must when in Leeds with a good selection of beers.

Lovely unspoilt local with a great selection of cask ales. Shame it's not near where I live. What a pity most of these gems have gone or been wrecked bu misguided 'improvements'. I'm told there's regular live music on. Food was basic - sausage roll or pasty & mushy peas, but tasty. Dunno whether there's a bigger selection towards the weekend, we went on a Wednesday.

Beer scores 5 stars. I had a Cornish pasty and a pork pie. Very acceptable. The pub has lost non of its charm and is exactly the same as it was 30 years ago. Don't change a thing!

Lovely oldly worldly traditional pub

A classic pub only a stones throw from Leeds Train Station - well worth seeking it out if you like traditional pubs. Great choice of cask ales and bar snacks. I had Pave The Way Pale Ale and a Pasty made locally in Ilkley. Top class service👍🏽

An untouched, ”proper" pub with a selection of ales, several lounges,obliging staff and live music, even when it's loud there's a cosy atmosphere. Central but off the beaten track. An absolute gem.

Monday 26th June 2023 This leeds real ale pub is a absolute unspoilt gem which besides having a plethora of real ales well kept at that also has small unspoilt snugs playe live and on tape excellent rock music Great clientele and a great outdoor drinking area at the front of the pub A essential visit when in Leeds

Lovely pub, with various rooms of different sizes all very cozy. Old school rock vibes, the live music must be great there. Manager Martin knows his ales and serves the good stuff. A must if you want to experience the authentic Yorkshire pub scene.

Had very high hopes for this place as a big fan of folk music. The gig space was decent in fairness but the atmosphere in the rest of the place wasn't great - bit cliquey perhaps. Managed to fall out with two people before I'd even finished one pint! Not the venue's fault but definitely put a bit of a dampener on the evening. I will be back so hopefully the next visit will be better.

Great authentic pub of leeds with a good selection of real ales and live music..

Very good pub about 10 minutes walk from Leeds Station. Eight cask beers - and 1 cider - on handpump when I visited. Lots of outdoor seating some of it covered. Very busy before the Spurs game at Elland Road. The Grove was established in 1832 and remodelled in 1928/29 by its then owners John Smith's of Tadcaster. A traditional four room corridor pub which retains interesting historic features.

Great in-city pub with traditional values and very welcoming. Live music and outside drinking area are a bonus

Lovely old pub hidden between the skyscrapers of Leeds. Live music, great beer and a good outdoor space. Highly recommend.

This pub is tucked down a side street just near Elland Rd Stadium. A ten minute walk from the Train Station. If your into cask beers and live music on Saturdays . Looks under new landlord just. Very old and settled in look. Very traditional.

Beautiful pub, having had great nights here. However tonight was treated disgustingly as a customer. Barman acting as a woman (no harm in that) was not interested in my conversation or comments. Served me rudely and turned away not even acknowledging my comment about how good the beer was. I felt a bit hurt though and I am no shrinking violet. Very poor customer service. Look out for him/her. Hope you get a better service

What a fantastic leeds bar. This was before a leeds game so it was busy, but you could still see that it's a place worth visiting again. Clean friendly and mostly that old bar atmosphere. The bands and food just add to it

Characterful local: a survival from an earlier age, dwarfed by Bridgewater Place. Good selection of beer. Live music some nights including a Folk Club on Friday.

Went there to listen to a live music session. It was well attended. Get there early if you want a seat.

Visited many times over the years. Always have well kept real ales. Love the interior and the small cosy rooms . Not been in for a while. Went in with a group of friends. The ale was good. The service was really good but the food on offer is not as good as it used to be, both in terms of variety and price.

Visited the grove for the first time and was pleasantly surprised , propper old boozer that's managed to survive despite lot of new development in the area , went to watch a band Sons Of Robin , brilliant entertainment and a good alround atmosphere .if anything room just didn't seem big enough for the crowed that turned up . The placeitself was themed for music which added to the atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and offered great service. I will definitely visit again in the future ,

A little bit of history hanging on between the high rise developments surrounding it. This is a traditional pub built with a corridor design and individual rooms coming off it, quite rare these days It has a lovely atmosphere inside, very welcoming. The back room has a stage set up as they have live entertainment most nights, the night we visited was open mic night. The walls of each room are painted with murals, the first 2 depicting narrow streets as it would have been back in the day... the back room is full of famous singers, brilliantly painted! Wide selection of beers available

Open mic with guitars, drum set and mics ready for artists use in the dedicated concert room, away from the slot machines and rowdy crowd sat in the main room. Very reasonably priced pies and beef/vegan burger, plenty of ale options from around Yorkshire and the UK. Will make sure to come back. Easily accessible by public transport
