4-plus rating. I had the butterfly chicken, my wife had the cod. She was happy with her meal, I was very happy. The blue cheese sauce on the chicken (and on the side, for the chips) was top-notch. Strongly recommended.

I really love this pub,it's so warm and friendly and is very welcoming to all. Dogs and children are welcome, and there's a great choice of drinks and food available for everyone, they really will go out of their way to help. Its a great place for sports lovers as they have a wide range of sports channels. They have live entertainment and quizzes and bingo. The back of the pub is great for children as they have a kids climbing frame, slide and bouncy castle, its enclosed and totally safe and away from the road . My husband and i are always looked after really well and all the staff are like a second family. My favourite day is sunday because they do the most fantastic carvery (you must book inadvance). You have a good choice of plate sizes, ranging from large to childs. The carvery is served by dan who serves your choice of meat which is either pork, turkey, beef and sometimes lamb all of which is cooked to perfection and is supplied locally from coates butchers. The choice of vegetables is vast and all of which is cooked perfectly, all the time freshly cooked veg ect is coming out of the kitchen cooked by amber and malc. The Yorkshire puddings are homemade and the cauliflower cheese is to die for, the roast potatoes and parsnips are also spot on, they really cover all bases. There's a vegetarian and vegan option just ask when ordering. I really cannot fault the grouse inn and I highly recommend it.

We popped in for the all you can eat breakfast and it didn't disappoint. Lovely food. Eggs were just right and the sausages and bacon were top notch. The toast was nice thick bread, not the measly stuff you find at some establishments. Don't be fooled by the size of the pub on the outside, because it is a Tardis inside. To top it off the staff were friendly and welcoming to both us and our two dogs. You don't find that in some places. We thoroughly recommend a visit here and we will be back to have breakfast again and to try their carvery.

We’ve visited a few times for breakfast . Excellent service , and quick . Decent coffee served first . My partner had the full size breakfast , a large plateful! I had the “small” veggie breakfast , and it was plenty ! The veggie sausages were properly and gently cooked , (which most places find difficult), plenty to eat . We can recommend .

We went at lunch time on a Tuesday for a meal. Very few customers. The loud background music was competing with the tv. The meals were satisfactory and reasonably priced. Service was attentive if a little slow but we were in no hurry. I would like to suggest that lunch time be aimed at retired people which would not include the noise (we sometimes have a job hearing conversation). In a previous life there were always plenty of pensioners eating there. I wish The Grouse all the best as we need more pubs open at lunch time in the week.

With some sympathy this pub is struggling to adapt to the covid measures. The one way system was not ready. The exit was locked so had to go back via the entrance. The carvery was fine, no issues. Meat was plentiful and so too the vegetables. The carvey hot plates were at an extremely narrow part of the pub. We did catch the landlord pinch some crackling with his fingers. Not great. Toilets are clean but poorly stocked. Went to the toilet and no lights so had to ask, then there was no toilet paper so again back to the bar to ask. Friendliness is fine but the overall experience left much to be desired

So, I'll start by saying this is a local establishment for me. I often pop in for the occasional drink. Always a good pint. So today I called in for a drink and I decided to browse the menu as I had never before since the new ownership. After viewing the menu a few things stuck me as a good option, when I was then greeted by the chef who offered my opinion toward the lamb steak. Brilliant price of around a tenner! My food arrived shortly after ordering, I sat by the well stoked fire on a cold winter day. Very well presented and first thought was wow! Massive chunk of lamb which might I add was perfectly cooked, pink. Every element was expertly cooked. Little did I know, this chef had previously owned Alison house hotel in cromford, and is also the owner of the royal oak in Tinsley! Both excellent venues for dining experiences. A hidden treasure right on my door step!

Number 4, dogs AND people love her food. It's good home made food! It's the most inviting and comfortable place to go to to relax wine and dine, events and fireworks! This woman really goes out of her way to please every person who steps door in this place. If for one second someone thought bridie was incompetent then they need therapy! Much love for the grouse. And all the staff. Maybe people need to be more aware of mistaking this place for the grouse and claret, which is, exactly as described by the man below :) enjoy

It was a very comfortable place spoilt only by the noise from one nearby group of 4 with loud penetrating voices and screeching laughter which made it impossible for us to hear each other . Went with my Mum and Dad for a Friday lunch in August! It has certainly changed for the better inside- it has been extended, more modern, cleaner, and a larger selection of food. No booking required! Opens around 12.30. Serves English food plus Lasagne meat or vegetarian as well! Dogs are allowed, and there is a large selection of drinks at the Bar. including Draught Guinness! Pleasant and warm! The thing that lets it down slightly is access. I used a walking frame to negotiate the steps. The owners are aware of the access problem, and are currently trying to get permission to build a disabled entrance! Toilets are accessible! The other thing that you have to watch for is parking. There are only about three spaces in the pub car park itself, so one has to get there early (before midday, or very soon after) to get a parking place!Having said that, when the staff saw I was disabled, they unlocked a door to let us out which avoided the steps completely! This was easier for all of us, and my mother found it very helpful, as she was then nearly 80, and suffers from Spinal Stenosis!

Popped in this pub a few time whilst staying close by. It's a clean well run pub with friendly staff and atmosphere who welcome you and your family. I was a bit disappointed by the selection of real ales, as they tended to be of the smooth and cloudy (John Smiths) type, with no local brews. But if that's not your tipple of delight then they serve plenty of lagers and ciders.

Called whilst staying nearby for a family (9) meal from 2 for £12 meal deal. One of party opted for a different meal so as the other 8 could benefit. Having chosen, 7 meals (6 from deal page) were ordered including 3 Steak and Ale pies ( other 2 in party ordered just afterwards). All ok so far until remaining 2 meals ordered, both Steak and Ale pies, when price was not the expected £12 but £15.90. How come? Well, barmaid pointed out that the page showed that meal had £7.95 added in pen so that was the price just as on main menu?! Yes all meals on the 2 for £12 are not actually £6. Our order had already gone through including drinks so the discrepancy wasn't noticed as nearly £60 was the total. If this had been drawn to our attention then alternatives would have been ordered instead. When place mats and cutlery were being given out our annoyance at the confusion over menu pricing was drawn to staff member's attention she said sorry but no offer to allow order to be revisited was made. Pies were actually fine but fish was poor. After much discussion amongst ourselves elsewhere ( didn't bother staying as previously planned because of our annoyance) we could only guess that a full priced item was left on the offer page as it would allow it to be ordered with a £6 offer meal ? This was our final assumption as otherwise the item would simply have been struck off the list as we had all originally concluded it should. Not at all happy at the off hand manner in which our complaint was addressed. Menu should be made absolutely transparent and customers should have this curiosity drawn to their attention to clarify that their natural expectation that they are ordering 2 meals at £12 is in fact gullibility.Still in area ( others in party had been in previous night and actually had 1 steak and Ale pie and 1 gammon for £12 possibly because only 1 gammon left so order revised) but we will not go again as planned.

We booked a table for 6 to eat after we had watched the football. It was a little busy and a warm afternoon but when the football ended the place began to get cold. The back door had been open all afternoon. The table we had reserved was taken by some locals only 3 of them? Instead of asking them to move we had to wait for our table to be cleared and cleaned. No big deal really but we sat down to look at the menus and we were getting quite cold as the table was near the back door that was still open. We asked the person who looked in charge (short hair shaved at the side) if the door could be closed. She brushed us abruptly to one side saying something about it being hot. I suspect she was hot but not her so called customers. We then sat down, got another round of drinks in but decided after sitting wearing our coats and having spent a lot on drinks we would take our custom else were. How disappointing to have caught the woman in a mood because the ratings seem to be good. Never mind we went to the Shalamar down the road and that was excellent especially the service!

We called into this pub on the off chance and I'm glad we did. The bar maid was really friendly and helpful and the food was extremely good and great value. The mixed grill, lasagna and burgers were great. Well done and you'll see us again

Went to The Grouse Inn for christmas lunch with a group of friends; Thurs 17th Dec. It was the first time we had been there but it wont be the last. The welcome from the staff and owner was very warm, the pub itself is warm, exceptionally clean and well decorated. When it came to the meal, it was lovely; hot, more than enough food and served quickly, by waitresses who smiled and let you know that nothing was to much trouble. One thing which went down really well with me was the toilets, they were spotless! All in all a very nice place to go for a good meal at a reasonable price.

Myself and four work colleagues went for Christmas Lunch on 4th December. As you walk through the door the staff are very welcoming which is always a great start. The food was excellent and the portions were plentiful, so much so that I couldn't even squeeze a dessert in! The service was again excellent and all our needs were met. Massive compliments to Bridie and her staff on such a great service. Would highly recommend that if you haven't chosen a venue yet for your Christmas dinner that you seriously consider the Grouse Inn at Darley Dale.

Couldn't get over the feeling that this pub was more geared to watching TV, playing pool and darts that having a meal. Nothing really wrong with the food, it arrived promptly and was well cooked. However everything felt somehow as if it had just come out of a packet. I'm sure it hadn't but that was the impression. Perhaps the overall experience was coloured by the fact that the large single room was almost empty.

Staying locally and after reading reviews, we walked here for an evening meal. It was very quiet with 3 couples ordering food, we were number 3! We waited over 40 minutes till ours arrived, each having a wait. So glad it wasn't busy! To be fair it was hot but nothing to write home about after all the wait. Wouldn't have minded so much if we had been told it would take so long!

Lovely country pub, friendly accommodating staff, wide range of food available and weekly specials. Pie, steak and curry nights and the portions are excellent value for money. Good selection of drinks available including guest ales, soft drinks and hot drinks; great kids menu and a fabulous beer garden with a huge children's play area. Dog friendly too!

We were 4 friends on our way to visit Haddon Hall and needed ideally a pub meal before we arrived there. We were looking out for a pub and saw the Grouse Inn which looked inviting with its lovely hanging baskets. The interior decor was tasteful, the staff were so pleasant. The toilets were pristine. The food was excellent and remarkable value for money. We would strongly recommend the steak and ale pie cooked by the landlady herself. The pie was full of juicy steak which had been marinated in cask ale. We knew this because the landlady came and had a word with us to make sure we enjoyed our meal.We would strongly recommend a meal here if you are in the vicinity. It deserves support .

Enjoyed a lovely carvery with the family on Sunday. 11 of us ate in the dining room, most opting for the carvery but some choosing other options. All good quality and quantity. Only fault was with one meal (cannelloni) not being available and staff failing to let us know until one of our party had already been served and started eating! The rest of us then waited for some 20 minutes before the meals came and we could all tuck in! Other slight concern was lack of meat on carvery. Some of us were given scraps of fatty meat which was a shame as it was lovely. Staff were all friendly and attentive though and meals good value. Worth a try

I have visited the pub on several occasions since being recently taken over....the carvery is excellent as the bar menu. They accomadate well for my baby boy who gets his meals free as he's in a highchair. I cannot fault the great service they provide and will continue going for the homemade food they serve. I definitely reccomend a visit!

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
