The Groes Inn in Conwy

Called in to book a table for Sunday evening as the website said food served until 8pm and we were staying locally on holidays. Was met by a guy on entering the door who when I enquired of availability was very abrupt with his answer saying "No"It gave me the impression that they didn't want the custom. Won't be venturing back despite it being recommended by our hosts.

Famous for their cheese and onion pie, I knew I was going to be having that before I even got a drink. It had a lot to live up to because my mum made the BEST cheese and onion pie ever. I and my tummy were pleased to say this was absolutely up there. Delicious. My hubby had lamb shank that had been cooked to tender, unctuous perfection. Paired perfectly with a cracking bottle of red - so reasonably priced I felt a bit guilty. Staff all lovely.

We had a lovely stay, it exceeded our expectations. We have booked to return again in 2 months. Great food & rooms

I have driven past here many times as I live on Anglesey. Impromptu decision this morning to book a table for lunch, and spoil my husband for his birthday. (I checked the website and spotted the Mon-Fri lunch deal, which is very good value for money) The food was delicious 😋 Good service. Plus we were able to take our Yorkshire Terrier with us. We will definitely be going again!

A very relaxed environment where you could enjoy good food wine and excellent service - very dog friendly, with special dog section.

On holiday in the area and booked a table for lunch April 2024. Had a lovely 2 course lunch from the light lunch menu - £14.95 which we thought was good value. Excellent meal. We were full so couldn't eat a dessert. Dog friendly and we were seated by the fire. Staff were attentive and keen to let us know ingredients etc in case of allergies or dislikes. Would eat here again when in the area.

We have stayed at the Groes inn on two separate occasions and both times we have been very impressed by the welcome and attentiveness of the staff. The first time was grey, cold and rainy outside but the welcome inside was warm & friendly. That visit we stayed in room 1, which was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. The second time we stayed, the weather was much better and the welcome was just as warm & friendly. We stayed in room 9, a ground floor room with a little terrace, and a very comfortable bed….and a great view towards the mountains behind. On both occasions we enjoyed our stay, the food was fabulous, the rooms very comfortable and the staff seemed to really care about making sure our stay was a pleasant experience. Thank you.

I have eaten here many times and it never disappoints…..I took 9 friends and 1 dog recently and we arrived rather early for our booked table but we were accommodated with no fuss on a table for all of us. All chose from the lunch menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I highly recommend The Groes Inn.

Group of 8 adults and 3 dogs, all of us were warmly greeted, a table was set to accommodate us all and staff were fab! Choice of food and drinks were vast! All ate very well and all super happy with all of our dishes! Would highly recommend this place! Great food and value!

Was recommended the Groes Inn from friends for daughter’s Birthday whilst on a trip to Llandudno. The food was very nice but waited almost 1 hour for it when it didn’t seem that busy. Very dog friendly positioned in a side room which is fine and understandable.

OUT OF DATE SERVICE!! Decided to pop over for a spot of lunch on Saturday (Easter bank holiday), been for Sunday lunch before and it was great, this was a different ball game, when we arrived we were greeted and made to feel welcome, but the moment we sat down it all went downhill, there was a lot of items not available on the menu ( which is hard to believe with it being Easter weekend), once we placed the order (small fish/chips and the burger), the waiter returned to explain that the burger wouldn’t have the brisket that’s included, so I got up to change my order to be reassured that the chef had enough for my order, once the food arrived the fish and chips was over battered (no fish!!!), I then had to go to the bar to complain as no one bothered to check everything was ok and if we needed anything else, the food was removed and a new meal was being prepared (taken about 20 minute's to arrive), as my mother waited, I came to realise that the burger in fact didn’t have any brisket and was over burnt and the chips were terrible, once my mothers meal did turn up, no one once came to check that the food was better, ask if we wanted anymore drinks or just acknowledge that we were in the restaurant, once finished 3 separate members of staff pasted our table saw the empty plates, didn’t clear or say anything, so if we had wanted a pudding or more drinks we weren’t given the choice, I did complain when paying to be told that the problem was that there was no staff and that the staff member taking our payment had worked 60 hours, we didn’t receive an apology just excuses. Need to up your service and customers skills!!!

Managed to book in at last minute for dinner after reading previous reviews. So glad we did. This really is a great little find. we were lucky enough to go the day the new menu came out and there rally was a good choice. My steak couldn't have been better (except maybe for a blue cheese sauce option) a really good cut of beef and good perfectly. My wife opted for the curry which was excellent as well, full of flavours. Add to this the Groes Inn is dog friendly and has a good selection of JW Lees Ales and you can't go far wrong.

We ordered the Sunday sharing platter. The food arrived cold, not warm- COLD. The portions were tiny and dumped onto a single dinner plate. I raised a complaint with the waitress explaining that the food was cold ‘ oh sorry I will pass it on’ was the response. No other acknowledgment or apology was attempted. Awful food, not value for money In very dated surroundings. I would definitely not recommend or visit again. I wish I had read the reviews prior to booking.

Had the lunch menu (£14.99 for 2 courses) which was tasty, hot & great value. We are local & will definitely return. Many thanks for the excellent service also.

two drinks cost us £17.70 - don’t order the large aberfalls gin it’s extortionate! the actual pub was cosy enough with lit fires but not sure how you can justify those kinds of prices for drinks

Stayed for one night under a dinner, bed and breakfast deal…which was excellent value. The room was clean and comfortable if a tad too hot during the night (we just opened the patio doors). Food was amazing…steak cooked to perfection by the chef Matt and attentive service from David. Breakfast was a hoot with the ever friendly Rachel looking after us….this place has such a great feeling that it’s a happy place to work, all team members were friendly.

We booked 2 nights at Groes Inn having previously been impressed when we stayed at another JW Lees hotel. The quality of service was exceptional. The room was lovely, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. We had B,B,&EM and the food was very good - both quality and choice. The hotel is in a great location and we will certainly visit again. We plan on using more JW Lees establishments whenever we can find one conveniently located in an area we wish to visit.

The welcome at The Groes is always first class whether calling for a meal or staying for a few days..All meals were beautifully prepared and tastefully presented . Nothing to complain about at all.Service was speedy staff polite and pleasant .A great dining experience .

We stayed in a Mountain View room in the annexe, which is a short walk outside to the pub. The room was clean and comfortable with a spacious bathroom. Good quality bedding and towels. We ate in the restaurant every night and the food is excellent. There is a small bar area with log fire, and another area with afire which is dog friendly. At breakfast there is a continental choice and hot food cooked to order. All the staff were excellent.

We love coming here with our mini schnauzer who gets as warm a welcome as we do. The food is freshly cooked and the fish and chips were noteworthy for the thin crispy batter on the fish and the crunchy chips. All the staff, front of house and back were friendly and engaged with the visitors and their dogs. There’s a really great feel-good factor here and we love coming back

Everything about the Groes Inn was perfect. The room, bed, bathroom. The food, bar, staff. Everyone was helpful and kind and willing to go out of their way to make it the best stay ever. It's close proximity to Conwy is convenient, but being away from the "city" was the best part. We woke up every morning to watch the sheep farm on the mountains and see the birds.

Nice food but a bit pricey for what you get.Ordered the liver with bubble and squeak and cavero nero. Considering liver is the cheapest meat in the world was disappointed with the portion size,three tiny slices of grilled liver with child size portion of b&s.Come on ,need to adjust the portion sizing to decent adult portion.

The rooms were ok. However the extractor fan for bathroom not working. Comfortable bed.however the breakfast experience was not good, not replenishing items and running out of items. Evening meals one and a half hour wait for starters arriving cold/luke warm, further hour before mains arrive, which were dry and burnt. The manager was apologetic for poor service and food, and was hopeful this was isolated to this one week of operation of facility. We ate elsewhere for remainder of stay.

We went for a prebooked Sunday lunch for 8 people and we can honestly say it was the worst food we have ever had both the starters and mains were cold and either over or under cooked the Sunday roast consisted of a large tasteless Yorkshire pudding the veg was for 2 people 2 small pieces of raw broccoli tasteless mashed carrots and red cabbage the trio of meat was a joke and very hard to find and each person had 2 small roast potatoes with 1 person not having any it was embarrassing as we took family who came over to stay with us for a what we thought would be a lovely meal out for them needless to say we will never go again which is a shame because the location is lovely. Whoever was the chef should be embarrassed sending out food of such low quality.
