Looked on Hillbarks web site to see that Christmas dinner 2020 was advertised as £105, so I called and reserved a table for 2 for my husband and myself. Time went by and after 2 unanswered emails I still not had any written confirmation. Eventually I called them and they said they would send over a menu when it was finished. I received nothing. I then received a call on the 3rd Dec asking for £125 deposit. I questioned the lady about the price and she lied and told me it had always been £125, even when I was looking at the web site and it said £105. I regrettably went ahead and paid the 50% deposit, even though I still had not seen the 2020 menu, but its 5* hotel, so surely the menu would be fantastic for Christmas, especially at £125 per person. Whilst on the phone the lady on the phone never told me the deposited was none refundable. I had seen the 2017 menu and it look lovely. When I finally received a confirmation email with Christmas menu, I was horrified to read it, it was appalling, Melon, followed by Tomato Soup then Turkey, cheese board then basic pudding. It would cost no more than £10 to make (I used to work in catering). I immediately called to cancel and was refused. I was told twice they would ring me back and never did. What they have done is trick customers into thinking you are going to get a lovely menu, as shown on the Christmas page, but what you actually get is very different. For example the 2017 Christmas menu for mains shows 4 meat choices, for 2020 you get 1 - Turkey!! What if you dont like Turkey?? TOUGH! Like it or lump it, because they will not refund you.....oh and they make sure they get there money first before sending you the menu. The hotel is clearly in trouble and trying to scrounge every penny it can get. We certainly wont be going for Christmas dinner, as we have been reading other shocking reviews about at Hillbark at Christmas. I just hope you read this before you give them a penny..........Disgraceful, lying company, that is scamming people. You should be ashamed of yourselves and have the 5* taken off you. In fact when I have a moment, I will be looking into doing just that.

Just home from a superb Sunday Lunch at Hillbark Hotel served in The Grill Room. Our waiter Duncan was excellent , it was all about the customer being looked after, and our time spent there a pleasure. A jug of Pimms to get things going, then in to The Grill Room for Lunch. A good selection of homemade bread, a beautiful starter, Pate , then the Roast Beef was brought in on a trolley to be carved at our table. A large Rib of Beef, served with many vegetables and potatoes and large Yorkshire Puddings. To follow, a Fruit Crumble and real Custard. A Sunday Roast at it finest, I would recommend to anyone.

My Partner and I visited The Hillbark Grill for a birthday treat and had been looking forward to it for some time having visited Hillbark on other occassions but not yet eaten there. The hotel itself is beautiful and the bar area is pleasant enough with attentive but onobtrusive staff. The main let down was the food itself. We opted to forego the starter and chose the chateaubriand to share as a main course. Now at £53 and this being a five star hotel, you would expect the steak to be top quality, but sadly this was not the case.... it was grisly and chewy and a real disappointment, The sides of chips, tomatoes and onion rings were fine, but still nothing special, although that said the mushrooms and bacon in stilton was really nice and turned out to be the highlight of the meal. When the maitre d' asked if our meal was fine, we pointed out that the steak wasn't great and the reasons for this, and he passed us both sharper knives to cut it with ! In fairness to him, he did point out our disappointment to the management and they offered us free desserts and coffees to compensate. We chose to share a lemon possett which was very good. To sum up, this is a relatively expensive meal which should be very good quality, but simply wasn;t. The bill came to £99, and I have to say we have had better and far cheaper meals elsewhere. We won;t be rushing back to the Hillbark Grill after this experience. And one final note of warning. The menu on the Hillbark website is out of date and the prices have risen considerably since this menu was published.

It's hard to get a decent steak in this country without paying a fortune or cooking your own... The Grill Room is superb and the prices are reasonable in my opinion - less than £20 for a fantastic speak, Rump or Fillet. Definitely a hidden gem.

We visited the Hillbark Grill, after vouchers we had for The Collingwood, West Kirby were transferred to the Hillbark Grill, after Aiden Byrne's sudden departure from The Collingwood. From the moment we arrived, the level of serrvice and attention was excellent - friendly & knowledgeable without being intrusive. Upon arrival we were taken through to the bar, where we were given time to read over the menu & enjoy a drink, before being shown to our table. The food was excellent, and complimented very nicely with their house red wine. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening & I would not hesitate to visit again

Great quality food, yet the portion sizes are tiny for the price paid. Expect your chips to be arranged in the style of the game Jenga.
