I would just like to give a massive thanks to hickory's staff at West Kirby. We came in on Saturday. The food was amazing as always and again as normal the staff where brilliant. Always enjoy coming here and will be deffo coming again soon. Thank you

*in response to Hickory's reply: you've completely ignored the essence of this review which is you put undue stress on your customers and they're shamed and embarrassed into having to ask for the automatic tip to be removed. If you can auto add it, you can auto remove it and the spirit of what I'm saying is you know people will likely not ask for it to be removed out of embarrassment* I am so disappointed that 7.5% service charge was automatically added to our bill.....please, we can't have this happen to the UK. Americas tipping culture needs to stay across the atlantic, next to health care for profit. I'm not angry, I'm just really sad. The position you people in just isn't right. I get it's a business, and even I want you to earn lots of money and be really rich because you make a great product. There are people in society that have to count every penny and who are maybe borderline homeless. Say their child does really well at school and they want to make their child feel special and rewarded and so they put on their best clothes and head to Hickory's. You're already not cheap (we paid £65 for 2 mains and 2 drinks with a side of onion rings) and for this family, the bill's already going to be a stretch for them. And then you add 7.5% which they're not expecting and definitely don't have the money for.....the feeling of dread, shame and embarrassment they feel right in this moment is something that I think business owners have so much power where they could do good.... All you need to do is not add it automatically, let it be a option. I'm sorry for the long message, I just don't want the world to follow Americas broken way! The food and service was excellent as usual and we will be coming again soon. We always tip a minimum of 10% anyway...as a business owner my self, I just can't shake the fact that I know that you know that auto adding it means people are embarrassed into paying it anyway and it's not our culture here and shouldn't be. If you think it's so easy to just ask for it to be taken off with your "no questions asked" then prove that you believe that it's no big deal and not auto add it, have every waiter ask if they can add it at the end of each meal, yes?

Fantastic ribs in barbecue sauce and an amazing burger. Great food, an unforgettable afternoon and family dinner. Very tasty appetizers. Nice service. I definitely recommend it! :)))

Wow, my son booked the table on our journey back from Wales, and announced i got a table, so I expected to find the venue half empty, but it was packed to the rafters, once the food had been ordered I again expected a reasonably long wait, I was wrong again, the food was amazing and I didn't complain, thank you to all the staff at the smokehouse, amazing

Great atmosphere great food quality service

Food was delicious and plentiful. As sun set we requested the bill. I was presented with a bill which looked right. Waitress came over and took payment and asked for me to provide feedback on a small device. The device provided a menu but it was not my menu. The waitress realised their was a problem but said nothing to me and took my receipt and asked me to wait. At this point it was getting and we were outside. I continued to wait but after 10 minutes I went in. I spoke to the waitress who told me the manager is busy and again asked me to wait. I waited a further 5 minutes and then I challenged the manager. I wanted my receipt. He said he had to print another and would not return the one in which I had paid. I insisted upon my receipt and it was at this point I realised they had given me the wrong bill to pay They must have knew but elected to say nothing hoping I would not realise something was wrong but when I saw my actual bill I had paid too much. They refunded and apologised. My complaint is they were willing to let me leave knowing I had paid too much. This is dishonesty and I expect better.

Took two children who have never been before . Thanks to Izzy they had a brilliant time . Izzy I think is part of the management and is an absolute credit to Hickory’s. Nothing was too much trouble . All staff attentive and friendly and the food was fab . Plenty to amuse the children with a kid pack brilliant idea . Thanks again for a great night

Absolutely awful service. Booked over a week in advance for a table at 6. To be told a 15/30 minute wait. So they're obviously taking walk ins and not caring about customers who book. Considering you want a £10 fee to reserve is insulting. We went to the bar and you can't move, people seated at the bar so how are you meant to be served? Staff shooting past every 2 seconds saying excuse me and being ignored at the bar due to the amount of people hovering and staff Absolutely unaware customers are standing like idiots waiting to have a drink whilst they wait forever for a table! Waste of my time. I don't get out much, first time in a year I've been in a restaurant due to a number of reasons, and this has ruined my evening. Shame on you! Don't let walk ins come and take tables if you have bookings, simple!!!!!!

Highly recommended. Especially fun on a match day. The food was delicious and had massive portions. The staff were also super friendly. The complimentary sweet popcorn was a nice touch. It was very tasty, and I'm sure my friends agree as well, because they were trying to steal mine. Thank you again for the fabulous food & service.

Amazing food and attentive staff. We popped in for a meal by chance and chose one of the midweek deals, it was plentiful and delicious for an amazing price of just £12.99. We will be coming back very soon

Hi my wife booked a table on Sunday 2nd Feb and requested not to be by dogs but they were all over the place one was in the bar area and 2 behind our table and others where dotted about the restaurant. both our meals were lovely and the service was good but it was like being in a dogs home dogs barking and growling at each other, wont be back unless they prohibit dogs in the restaurant the place would still have plenty of customers without the dogs.

Service has declined. Been coming here for years since it opened but our visits have become less and less. On our recent visit we arrived and were seated pretty quick and we ordered a drink ..that was the highlight .. I had to grab someone after 30 mins to take our food order. Almost an hour after arriving our food came, our initial drink we bought when we arrived had long gone, nobody cared or were attentive at all. We weren’t offered another drink for the entire meal, and after sitting there finished for a while I managed to grab someone to bring our bill. Service charge already on the receipt is a total slap in the face. We politely paid and left, I think that will be our final visit.

Thank you so much to Niamh who served us this evening whilst I celebrated my birthday. She was an absolute delight. From start to finish she was so bubbly and kind. It was our first time trying Hickoreys through a recommendation from a friend, and I can see why it’s so highly recommended with employees like Niamh. She even took the time to make a special surprise for me ready for my trip to Chester Zoo the following day. It was so thoughtful and I was lost for words (even shed a little tear)! I have never experienced such amazing service from a restaurant and will highly recommend friends and family to visit Hickoreys in West Kirby. Thank you again. PS. the food was outstanding. Today we celebrated my mums 57th birthday and from the moment we booked at the restaurant the staff went above and beyond! My dad has accessibility needs being a stroke survivor in a full electric wheelchair. My aunty also joined us who is gluten free. Our waitress and waiter Kayleigh(sorry if I'm spelling this wrong) and Phil have been amazing putting us In the conservatory with plenty of space around us in a slightly quieter place but always checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed! The food was delicious but the service was what made tonight! We had a great time and will definitely be back again!

Very busy, car park full, hard to park of site. Service is very quick and friendly. Good entertainment on the night, live music with female singer (very good) Good menu, lots of choice, not the place to come if you are wearing white 😉.

The food and atmosphere were great. The service was also good, however, the front if house got our server the rush us to order so they could turn the table before our allocated 90 minute allowance was over. We had only been in the restaurant for 20 minutes. The food arrived 5 minutes within ordering. We went elsewhere for dessert and drinks.

Wow!! Me and family came here today for the first time! Brad/Bradley was our server and I have honestly never ever had such good customer service he was so friendly and polite! Gave us free testers of a root beer float and the brisket Told us his favourites off the menu and was just overall amazing, we will 100% be back!

The place was very lively. The only downsides were the parking. Very tight spaces. And the food. We got a platter for 2 and it had one sausage to share and 3 pieces of brisket. Double up on the sausage and have 4 pieces of brisket. The 2 people platter is not enough for 2 people. Staff were amazing. They were mad busy but always smiled and helped us if needed.

Great service, lovely food. Thank you to Philly who served us and moved us to a warm and quieter table. We really appreciated his kindness and friendly attitude. We have had a really bad week and Philly really made us feel cared about and that we mattered. He is an asset to Hickory's. We would definitely recommend.

We went to celebrate my partner’s birthday. They were very welcoming and put out a “birthday beers loading” sign which was a great touch. The food was lovely (as usual) but found the child’s meal portions were not big enough for the slim child we had dining with us. Probably fine for the under 6’s. The child’s booklet and magnifying glass was great fun for the older children. But for the toddler, it was a little lost on them. The food was all lovely. Our only disappointment was my partner didn’t get a happy birthday board with an impressive sparkler and treat, like they had done for another table while we were there.

We came for the birthday of a youngling and he had a fantastic time, everyone had a fantastic meal trying out some of the new menu items and of course the big ole sharing platter! What a meat based delicacy and some of the best corn bread I've had this side of the Atlantic. Bit of on the spenny side so unless you're flush, save it for a special occasion.

My girlfriend and I went to Hickories 13/11/24 to celebrate my birthday yesterday (we were sat in a booth in the conservatory as per my girlfriend’s booking request) - all we can say is wonderful customer service by a lovely server called Liam. His kindness and generosity did not go unnoticed and we couldn’t thank him enough! Food as always was excellent! Thank you so much again Liam, you are a credit to Hickories!

I had the Brisket which was described as “The Star of the Show!” weighing in at 1/2lb. I expected something special about the size as a decent steak elsewhere, albeit sliced. The meat was tender and well cooked. However, the portion was much smaller than I expected, and far from the star of the show promised. Not so much disappointing more underwhelming. Likewise with sides such as the chips, coleslaw and grilled sliced peppers. Sadly the meal size was unnecessary miserly . Not what I would expect from an American style restaurant.

We booked this very last minute and we were still accommodated as a family of 5. I was provided with a gluten free menu which was extensive. Food was delicious and it was great to have so much choice. great effort was made not to contaminate my food. Service was excellent. Only thing I would say, there was a sausage dish on the gluten free menu that may contain gluten, just leave it off?

We had a Birthday party for eighteen people last night, the food was excellent the service led by Sam, was first class even though they were remarkably busy nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I would recommend this venue to everyone

I went there recently, but the noise and americanism drove me away, as soon as I opened the door. Not for me. Had a lovely meal and met nice people at the Ring o Bells just round the corner.

We visited for my partners birthday with family and got sharing platter for us as we had this the first time we come but after leaving we where violently ill upset stomach vomiting and wouldn’t come off the toilet feeling very let down by the place as first visit was amazing hence why we come back

Nice place. The food was hot. The only problem for myself was that I had a draft coming from somewhere, being fries they go cold to fast. Next time I go, I will ask to be seated at another part.

Had a great 18th birthday meal for my son tonight. Food was great, really busy and the service from Sean was exceptional. Great staff can really elevate a place - well done.

I've been to the hickory's in Preston and loved their food so decided to come here. The disabled parking is both good and bad. There are two disabled spaces at the bottom of a long ramp for wheelchair access which is great but it is about 50 ft from the space to the entrance which if you can't walk far it's not the best. There are car parking spaces right outside the entrance but none were disabled spaces which I think they need to put one as disabled. There are also 8 steps to get to the entrance also. The staff were all really friendly and we first ordered a pint of IPA £5.55 and their signature grape soda £4.30. We did however have to ask our waitress when she came to take our food order that we hadn't had our drinks yet which she got for us. Also the music was just a touch too loud so we had to raise our voices to talk but it wasn't too bad. I ordered the platter for one £33 and upgraded to chilli cheese fries £2 extra. My friend ordered the brisket sub meal £16.99. The meals came out about 15 mins later and as expected everything tasted amazing. The cow rib meat just melted and the cheese and jalapeno stuffed sausage was great especially with their bourbon sauce. The chilli cheese fries were good to. Also the beans were amazing. My friend said her brisket sub tasted great. The bill came to £66.48 which the tip of £4.64 was automatically included. I think for the amount of work it took just to cook all the different meats was good value and the waitress Eleanor was great. Will definitely come again as they had my NFL team flag up on the wall and it was really high quality American BBQ food

I've visited here on 3 separate occasions with a group an each time, there has been an error with the bill. Usually charged for an adult meal instead of children's. Whilst it has been corrected at the time, it relies on careful checking of the bill. Good gluten free options and advice. Staff can spend too long just chatting with patrons when you just want to pay the bill and leave.

We had booking for 18.30 on Saturday 5th October to celebrate my husband's birthday which I had made over a week ago We had arrived early after driving from Wigan. We order drinks at the bar where the service was good. Unfortunately, that's were the positives end. 18.30 came and went. 18.45 came and went parties of similar size arrived after us and where seated before us. Just after 18.45 the manger came across and asked if I was Clare and said that a booth had just become available. Which he needed to get ready and he would seat us in. He walked away no apology. He was told he had 4 mins to get the table ready. 5 mins later I watch a couple stand from the table and walk away from a table not booth and he began to clean it. I went to speak to the member of staff who was front out house who had obviously messed up by giving our table away. This was 25 mins after our table should have been ready. We had chosen to use this Hickory's as opposed to the Hickory's we usual use in Preston because we had a lovely experience at West Kirkby over summer. After this experience I will not be using your branch again, the attitude of the duty manager and the staff ruined what should have been a lovely family meal and birthday celebration which we had been looking forward to all day. I suggest that that staff who were on duty as the manager and greeting guests need retraining on how manage booking and seating staff and how to deal with customers, as both were sadly lacking in these skills. Also, lying to customer in not a good look for a customer service based industry. Thank you for allowing your staff to ruin my husbands birthday meal.

After having been to Hickorys in Chester I did imagine that they would all be of similar standard. Unfortunately this was not the case with the West Kirby Hickorys. The food that was available was not of a good standard. Although staff were pleasant and welcoming socialising with each other and friends seemed a little more important. Unfortunately I will not be returning with my family. Chester Hickorys is by far better.

Food was nice even if slightly expensive

We booked this place because it was my twin daughters birthday.. The staff went above and beyond to cater for us all. And plus one of the staff members Paige!!she was an absolute star.she made my daughter's feel extremely special on their birthday. Brought out two donuts with cream and a sparkling candle. It really made their day. Over all great food. Amazing staff Lovely and clean.

Wonderful selection of BBQ style food. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. We have recommended Hickory's to several family and friends, and they too enjoyed the whole experience. Dogs are given a nice treat also.

We had a share platter, looked amazing but most of the meat and ribs was so dry and chewy the beef rib was black and solid totally inedible. My son had fish bites which were also overcooked and dry. We complained to the waitress who said she would send the manager over to speak to us but he never arrived.

I usually love the vibe here, friendly staff usually, but today had to wait to be served at the bar even though noticed, staff blatantly seemed more interested chatting between themselves rather than focusing on serving customers.

Just Had my 70th Birthday Meal today at Hickories, West Kirby for a party of 7 adults plus 3 kid and to put our experience into one word, it would be....... outstanding. The food was excellent ( as always ) but what also made a superb afternoon was the attentiveness of the staff. All so friendly and willing to talk but with attention to detail Well done staff but not to forget Hickories for our Gourmet experience. Highly recommend without reservation. Only minor downside was that parking was a bit tight. Stan Gardner

First visit to Hickory's and was impressed. Was so much choice on the menu that we eventually settled on the platter. The meats were fantastic. Certainly a great choice if you're ever unsure of what to choose. Staff were fantastic and would visit again. The restaurant is popular so parking can be hard to get at times.

First visit to Hickory's, wasn't sure what to expect. As a veggie not sure about the veggie burger but it was lovely, hubby had macaroni cheese and enjoyed it. Service was first class. Definitely will be visiting again.

Dined at Hickory's Smokehouse, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding—authentic, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The ribs were tender and packed with flavour, and the brisket melted in my mouth. Even the sides, like the mac 'n' cheese and cornbread, were delicious and complemented the meal perfectly.The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a great vibe that made the experience even better. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, which really added to the overall experience. I highly recommend Hickory's Smokehouse to anyone who loves great BBQ and a relaxed dining experience. I'll definitely be returning soon!

The dishes here are amazing, and the staff are very attentive to dogs (it is dog friendly). Staff are chatty and offer great service, and the food is out of this world. The only thing I was very disappointed about was they automatically add 7.5% tip of what you spend onto the bill. I really was very let down by this as the experience was brilliant, I just found it quite rude. I would've most definitely tipped if they didn't automatically put it on! I think they should definitely change this. It was meant to be awkward free to ask to remove it, but the staff had to have a word with a manager to remove this and resulted in some looks at us. Real shame, but other than that, the staff were brilliant and are dog lovers and the food was excellent!!
