Great food the best I've had in a long time. Very friendly and helpful staff. A lovely place to spend a night out.

Had a couple of pints after a walk from Edinburgh

We arrived at 8:30 p.m. According to the waiter who served us, they did not serve food. Was it just a pub? They kindly pointed us to the closest inn, the Balerno Inn (fortunately they treated us wonderfully there).

It is offered as a restaurant and they only have beers.

Friendly staff, nice beer garden.

Pies to die for... Great food, friendly service. An occasional treat for us.

Excellent lunch - we had Chinese food!

It was a happy lunch experience there after 3 hours hiking! Enjoy the chat with the boss! Love the cake too!

Had the best lentil soup since my nana's! Lovely wee bar/restaurant.

Birthday dinner with the family (12 of us). Some of the party opted for Chinese dishes and others went European. The food was delicious and made to Paul's usual high standards. Jane was a huge hit with the family especially with my mother in law. Service was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble despite people arriving a bit late. Highly recommended.

A good local and great to have a few real ales, all of which were in good condition. The locals were all friendly and we felt welcome. Also, the pub was dog friendly. The public bar is a bit compact while the restaurant part seems much more spacious. A good place for a relaxed pint and chat in Balerno.

The absolute best Chinese food I have ever tasted. The food is made from scratch. What a difference to the normal Chinese food you get elsewhere. Had the best won ton soup and crispy Chile beef . Highly recommended. Fab staff too

Great small bar that I've been visiting for decades but now with more room and a restaurant. Friendly staff and a good selection of beers. Charming and historic surroundings.

What an amazing Chinese. Sat in as a family of 3, a nice relaxed place. Served by Jane who was nothing but friendly and catered to everyone’s needs… then onto the food… Blown away by the quality of the meal. Food fresh and piping hot straight out the kitchen. Every single dish tasted amazing. Would highly recommend and shall be returning soon.

Paul's food and culinary skills are second to none. The flavours in every dish are exemplary, and the hospitality afforded by Jane knows no bounds. As local villagers in Balerno, we are so grateful to have this Inn on our doorstep. There may be a better Chinese, but I'll bet it'll be in China!

An absolutely superb pub with a traditional look with a beer garden. Real ales are kept in terrific condition and usually feature something from Scotland. The landlord is great as well, so friendly and welcoming.

Nice little place, good prices and a nice cozy atmosphere. Perfect for a lunchtime drink at the weekend.

They accommodated 2 old English sheepdogs, we had a great meal, fantastic flavours and generous portions. The staff we really helpful and friendly, as were other people in the pud. Would recommend

Looking at the name, you might be surprised to hear that the Grey Horse Inn is not just a pub - it is also home to the best Chinese takeout in Edinburgh. It's been so incredibly popular with locals since they started offering Chinese food over lockdown that you have call in advance to book your slot. But it's 100% worth it. We've loved it so much that we've sat in a couple of times to enjoy the food too whilst having a pint. And the folks there are always so friendly!

Fab village pub in Balerno. Great choice of real ales..Cozy pub which also has a fab beer garden...plus a function suite for hire. Paul's Chinese Food is highly recommended.. CHEERS 👌

Came here on a whim whilst staying at the Dalmahoy hotel with my wife and son. Service was exceptional, drinks were very good, place is very homely with regulars dotted around the place. Came here for a meal and it did not disappoint. Ordered BBQ ribs, special fried rice, and fried shredded beef special dish. The food here was exceptional, exquisite, tasty and authentic. Sadly we live to far away to come here regularly but I'd say it's the best Chinese meal I've had period. Well done Grey Horse you exceeded our expectations and some.

Came here after a walk in the pentlands for a few pints and some food, superb service, and I had Thai green curry for food, it was amazing, and complimentary prawn crackers- would highly recommend

We visited on Sunday with family and the food was excellent. We all opted for Chinese and although we had to wait it was all cooked individually and couldn't be faulted. Best Chinese food we"ve had in a very long time. I especially liked the fact that the plates were warmed and that makes a big difference. We will definitely be back. Top marks for the chef.

Great food and staff are very helpful would different recommend

We visited this pub after staying at JustB. We were not disappointed, amazingly wonderful food. The service from both Jane and Derek (family run) was just wonderful. We will be returning as soon as possible because the Chinese dishes are fantastic in both quality and price. Dog friendly and customer service is wonderful. If you are even staying in Edinburgh then visit Balerno and this pub ! Seriously amazing.

Had carry out Chinese food tonight and it was amazing. Really good system of calling ten mins before food ready to be collected. Will definitely use again.

Tasty Chinese food! I have an MSG allergy and my son is vegan. The staff coped well and were very friendly. The portions were huge and we probably ate too much! The pub supplied some lovely draught beers and the too of us had a very enjoyable evening.

Just had a fathers day take out. Chinese cooking excellent. Very hot and spicy.

Nice cosy pub split in to two sections. One being the bar, where there's a rear fire and dogs are welcome. With the other being a restaurant and function room. Friendly and approachable management and staff

It has a tiny bar, which I am afraid has a very lackluster look, and is in need of a makeover. That said you would need to find some way of attracting more clientel. Looking through the windows the restaurant looks not bad.....but why is it allyways empty when I walk past, which is most days. I would find some other hostelry if I were you!

Great hospitality .... we had a very warm welcome.

Only had drinks here, no food. They had a lovely jazz band playing in the next room. The drinks were good and not too expensive, but service could have been a little more prompt seeing as the place was empty, and they needn’t have included plastic straws in every drink.

Just begun having occasional band (last week called Chil, see Facebook page and pic) at the new pub hall extension. Great entertainment and good way to spend a late Sunday afternoon with retro music and dancing. Good choice of beers, friendly and helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Amazing little family run pub, with lovely food, I had the best steak pie and my mum had the lamb shank. It all tasted just home cooked!

Went to lunch with family and friends here. Nice little family run restaurant/bar. Great roast beef lunch and the haggis balls for starter was superb. Friendly lady took orders and served. Chef came out at the end to make sure we were content. Hi, go for lunch here.

Had dinner with family. Food was very nice. Various dishes around the table. None bad. Reasonable price and a good choice of beers and gins.

Lovely place! Our waitress, Jane was pleasant and helpful! We only saw the bartender for a moment when she brought us water but she was delightful. The food was delicious. The mushrooms soup was creamy, chewy and flavorful. The piece of haddock was longer than the plate. Flaky crust with perfectly cooked fish that was just as good the last bite as the first. Soft scrumptious chips. The local Pentland hills IPA was smooth with a perfect bite to it and ahint of grapefruit. Go! Enjoy! You know you want to!

Intrusive, rude owners who clearly have no idea about hospitality. Smell from the kitchen was revolting. Wouldn't trust any food that comes out of there.

Visited with family 10 of us on Chinese food night. Food was very good and best Chinese food I have had for a long time. Service struggled a bit with 10 but did not detract from the great food.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast lunch. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Great value for money with fixed price 2 or 3 courses. If you don't know Balerno I recommend getting detailed directions - even the sat nav got lost !

Maybe being a bit harsh but our first experience was not good....a crowd of us went on 28 December and more than 50% on menu was unavailable!! Perhaps having a board outside advising their was a limited choice would have been a sensible move!

It's refreshing to visit a wee pub in a small village where you can get a great quality meal at a reasonable price. Awesome selection of beers too and loved their unique menu, very authentic. Well worth a visit.

First time here, excellent food and great staff definitely one to visit regularly, or maybe keep quiet so I can book, superb lobster tonight.

Great pub. Public bar has kept the traditional charm and beer is still excellent. I'd like to see Belhaven 80/- back one day.
